901solaris_disk2.cpio.gz (9i Dataserver for Solaris 32bits Disk 2)

I'm trying to download 9i Database server for Solaris (32Bit) on my Windows 2000 machine before to install it on a Sun machine (5500). I have disk 1 and 2 ok. But the file '901solaris_disk2.cpio.gz' seems to be corrupted. I've download it tree time... The annouced size of 592Mo is only 455Mo (466 268k) each time. There is no error on download. Can you tell me what is the reason of the problem ? Do I have to order my product to Oracle France and wait for 15 days ?
I can give my client number to you on monday if you need it, because I use my personnal machine for big download on week-ends.

Your 92010Sol_Disk1.cpio.gz seems to be a little short on the size. Download site reports the file as 502,322,122 bytes. You might want to re-download the file.

  • Cannot extract the setup file 10gr2_db_sol.cpio for Solaris

    Hi,
I downloaded the 10gR2 setup file "10gr2_db_sol.cpio.gz" for sparc solaris 8. I extracted the .gz by gunzip. Then I tried to extract the .cpio by the command:
    cpio -imdv 10gr2_db_sol.cpio
just like written in download page.
But there is no progress: neither an error, nor a response or an extracted directory occured. The command waits as if working nothing occurs.
I tried several times both on solaris and Linux.
How can extract the setup file with cpio suffix on Solaris?
    thanks

Once you have extracted the file as previously stated, look for the database disk (wherever you have unpackaged it) and look for the runInstaller file. On unix environments there is no setup file.
Make sure you have already read the install requirements before proceeding with installation.

    Hans,
It is a known problem on Windows 98, Windows and Windows 2000 if you are using Intel Pentium 4 processor with Sun JRE and Symantec JIT. I had the same problem with Windows 98. Oracle has a patch. Please see Note:131299.1 on metalink for details.

If the software you look for is not at either of those places it is probably because they are outsiide 'normal' support status. In that case you need to contact either Oracle Support (if you have a valid CSI) or Oracle Sales (to get a CSI number) to get the software.

  • Oracle 9,2.0 32 bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB?

I am sorry to ask rather stupid question.
I joined company which has big SUN Fire running Solaris 9 64bit version.
It has system memory 16GB and 8 CPUs.
I found 8GB memory reported as free. It is production box. It is heavy loaded.
I guess Kernel parameter settings for Oracle set too low.
I reported DBA and asked DBA to improve.
My DBA said Oracle 32 bit version was installed and Oracle 32bit can't access more than 4GB system memory.
Is it true that Oracle 9.2.0 32bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB memory?
32bit CPU and 32bit OS might have problem in access big memory.
But I never heard Oracle 9 running on 64bit Solaris box can not access more than 4GB.
Specially on Sparc 64bit chip and Solaris 9 64bit version.
I searched forums and could not find good answer. I believe it is rather obvious.
Please help me on this. I will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I was really surprised by the fact that almighty
ORACLE can not access 4GB memory.
So, it is true that 32bit Oracle is limited by 4GB RAM.Nope. 32bit almighty anything is limited to (max) 2^32 virtual adresses on a vmm system.
Often there is also some split where memory is divided into system and user areas, where user (program) has e.g. 2 or 3GB. All this works regardless of amount of RAM available 0.5 or 512GB.

  • Installing OAS 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for Solaris 10 sparc

I am installing Oracle® Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC) for the first time on an unix server. What is required in unix as far as directories, mount-points and etc. before I start. After downloading the product, it says to extract the cpio file, move the cpio file to an empty directory, then do: cat filename.cpio | cpio -icd What directory do I run installerer in. I have reviewed the doumentation in Oracle for installing the OAS but it is the prep work that i am not sure about.
Thank you for any help and guidance.

OK, when you unzip this or untar or make cpio, you will get Disk1, Disk2, Diskn folders, the mount for this could be anywere, even if they are in different mount points of folders, it's better to have them all in a same folder cause the installer will find the disks by his own, but ifyou have them in diferent folders, the installer will ask for the directory where the disk are.
    Hope this helps
    Greetings.

    Hi Smart71,
I know it sounds complicated, but it really isn't.
You need to select the option to manually edit the disk label
    when you install solaris.
Your problem is that you have assigned 73 GB for your / (root)
and 63 GB for your swap. That's not the problem that I see. The problem is that the Solaris partition (and therefore the Solaris VTOC label inside) is only for 136GB. But the actual underlying storage is 409GB. So the entire partition and the VTOC have to be rewritten.
You only have 2 options. Either re-install Solaris, of re-partition the disk.
If you don't have a spare disk to copy root to and you want to use
the whole disk, with just one / root partition, you will need to shrink /swap
create another slice to copy root to temporarily, and then re-partition your disk. Agreed reinstalling is easiest. But moving slices around will not let you change the VTOC size.
    eg:
boot from CD into single user mode.
partition the disk so that eg:
swap is 3 GB. eg: ( from cylinder 1 to cylinder 400 )
    partition 3 is 7 GB ( from cylinder 401 to cylinder 1318 )
( if 7 GB is enough to hold all your / data )
    write the disk label out
    newfs partition 3
    mount / on /a
    mount partition 3 on /mnt
Copy everything from /a to /mnt eg:
    rsync -vaxH /a /mnt
    or
find /a -xdev -print | cpio -pdam /mnt
    umount /a and /mnt
re partition the disk so that / takes all the free space. If that were your goal, you wouldn't have to move anything. Just repartition and use 'growfs' on the root filesystem directly (while booted from CD).
eg ( starting at cylinder 1319 to cylinder 17816 )
    write disk label out
    newfs part 0 for /
    mount / on /a and part 3 on /mnt
copy everything back from /mnt to /a
Check /a to make sure everything is there.
    umount /a and /mnt
re partition the disk to make /swap 10 GB
    ( starting at cylinder 1 to cylinder 1318 )
    write disk label out.
    And that's it.
The disk you are working on is 17816 cylinders in size.
yet down the bottom you say that :
Total disk size is 53502 cylinders
That tells me there are 4 disks in the raid 5 set, and that
you have probably been presented with 3 x 136 GB disks.
That means that you should have 2 x 136 GB disks free.
Use one of these to copy your /root to. and then
re-partition your first disk and copy data back.
Or partition another disk correctly, write a boot block to it
Copy your root data to it, and boot from it.The entire disk is presented to the machine (as seen in the fdisk output), but the Solaris partition is only using the smaller portion of it. You can't create a second Solaris partition and use it at the same time, either. Only one Solaris partition can be used at a time.

  • Win 7 x64 Driver for a 32bit CF Cardbus Adapter (x61)

Does anyone know where I can get a Win 7 x64 driver for a 32bit CF cardbus adapter mounted in the Lenovo x61 internal multicard reader?
I am running Win 7 x64 on a Lenovo X61 7675-CTO.  I have an Viking 32 Bit High Speed Compact Flash Cardbuss Adapter inserted in the internal multicard reader.  When I insert a CF card in the reader, I get  "Mass Storage Controller" and "drivers for this device are not installed" error indicators from the Windows Device Manager.
This configuration was working fine for me under Win XP x32.  I read the suggestion posted to another thread that one can downgrade to Win 7 x32, but I am hoping for a X64 solution.  I have already installed the "6iio10ww" Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit).  The problem seems to be that Viking has not released a x64 driver for this product.  It seems Microsoft should have installed the proper driver during the OS install since this device was around before the Win 7 was introduced.
Can anyone suggest a source for the proper driver or an alternative CF card cardbus adapter known to work with Win 7 x64 OS?

    Thanks!
