9031: Patchset vs. Bundled Patch 1

Hi!
Could you guys please help me out.
Why does BP1 for 9031 have a earlier release date than the 9031 Patchset? Does it mean that the BP1 is obsolete when Patchset 9031 is installed?

  • MOPatch bpmig.sh Structural Changes in SAP Bundle Patches

Structural Changes in SAP Bundle Patches New!
As of June 2014, there is a change in the internal structure of the SAP Bundle Patches (SBPs) for Oracle. While this has many benefits, applying the new SBP for the first time requires special handling. For more information, see the hot news SAP Note 2011199.
When looking at note 2011199 I found due to the changed structure and to identify stand alone patches it is recommended to run the bpmig.sh script.
To avoid these problems or to detect them before actually installing this SBP, you must run the bundle patch migration script bpmig which is delivered with MOPatch 2.1.16 and later.
The script comes up with an error message:
Cannot determine SBP version from "SAP Bundle Patch 11.2.0.3.2 - 201205".
opatch / mopatch semselfs seems to function properly...
    Any clues?

    Hi,
Please check the following SAP Note 2032109 - Executing bpmig.sh shows "Cannot determine installed SBP"
    Thanks.

  • How to determine the Plunin Bundle Patch version applied

Working to apply the EM DB Plugin Bundle Patch 12.1.0.5.8 (Agent Monitoring).  The current Plug-in Version is 12.1.0.5.0.  How can I check or determine that the 12.1.0.5.8 Plugin Bundle Patch has been applied to a given Agent?  Bundle Patches are being released maybe every 30-days.  Would like to be able to view the Plugin Bundle patch level for a given Agent to the 5th number, "8" in this case 12.1.0.5."8" .

From EM, go to the Agent target, on the bottom left hand side, you'll see a Configuration section, click on the Oracle Home and Patch Details link...
This will bring up the Oracle Home for the agent, and in the middle-right section there is a TAB for Patches Applied. This will list the Patch # and the Description, which has the 5th digit...
If you're on the agent, each plugin has it's own ORACLE_HOME.  You can find them by looking at the inventory, or run opatch from the agent...
if agent is installed in /oracle/agent, you will have a plugins directory:
    drwxr-xr-x  8 cllamas dba 4096 Feb  4 15:03 oracle.mysql.omys.discovery.plugin_12.1.0.1.0
    drwxr-xr-x  6 cllamas dba 4096 Feb  4 15:03 oracle.sysman.db.discovery.plugin_12.1.0.7.0

    drwxr-xr-x  6 cllamas dba 4096 Feb  4 15:03 oracle.sysman.xa.discovery.plugin_12.1.0.6.0
You can run opatch lsinventory -oh /oracle/agent/plugins/oracle.sysman.oh.agent.plugin_12.1.0.4.0
to get the version and patches applied.   I've already upgraded to DB Plugin 12.1.0.7 so i don't have an example to show at command line, but it will also list out the patch # and description which will have the 5th digit.

I also edited my ealier post to check against the database itself, but you won't be able to check the one-off patches applied onto the binaries.

  • Problem when apply SAP Bundle Patch for 10.2.0.5

    Hi,
We are trying to apply SAP Bundle Patch (SBP) SAP_102052_201102_SOL64.zip and SAP_102052_201103_SOL64.zip using MOPatch utility. Both MOPatch and OPatch utility have been updated with the latest download from SAP. When applying patch for SAP_102052_201102, most patches went through except for one patch that requires OPatch to be version 10.2.0.5.0. The OPatch version downloaded from SAP is 10.2.0.4.9. Even the OPatch delievered together in the SAP_102052_201102_SOL64.zip file is 10.2.0.4.9.

    Hi,
    I went to
    http://service.sap.com/oracle-download
    then
    Oracle 10.2.0.5
    then
    OPatch
The file I can see there is generic for ALL operating systems and the name is:
    OPatch_10205_Generic_v0.zip
it seems that the version is 10.2.0.5, not  10.2.0.4.9 as you mentioned.
I have downladed it and look at the README:
    Patch summary:
README file for OPatch 10.2.0.5.0, the Oracle Interim Patching Tool.
I'm not installing it, but it seems that the version is not the same as yours.
Is this the one you have downloaded?
Have you installed it properly? => may be you are running an older one

  • How to apply Bundle Patch in Rolling Mode for 2 Node RAC

    Hi Guys,
I have a 2 node RAC environment (11.2.0.3) where each node has there own local Grid_home and RDBMS_home.
I am installing a Rolling Bundle Patch with OPatch in this environment. The installation document says that "The order of patching in RAC install is GRID_HOME, then RDBMS_HOME" so i did the following.
    1. stopped all oracle related services on node1
    2. set oracle_home=<Grid_home>
    3. applied the opatch
    4. opatch succeeded on node1 and it says "The node 'NODE2' will be patched next... Is the node ready for patching? y
    Here i am bit confused.
    1. Should i shutdown the oracle services in Node2 and continue to patch the Grid_home ? If yes then the DB will be completely down for user access. This defeats the purpose of rolling mode which says there is no downtime.
    2. Should i patch the RDBMS_home on node1 , start all the oracle services on node1 , stop the oracle services on node2 and then resume the opatch on node1 which is waiting to patch the Grid_home on node2 ?
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Ashok Kumar.G

    Hi Sebastian,
14613223 patch install instruction did not mention about opatch -local option.
Here is what i followed and completed the installation successfully.
    1. Shutdown all oracle services on node 1
    2. applied opatch for grid home and then rdbms home using "opatch apply -local" on node1
    3. Started all oracle services on node 1
    4. Shutdown all oracle services on node 2
    5. applied opatch for gridhome and then rdbms home using "opatch apply -local" on node 2
    6. Started all oracle services on node 2
    7. executed post installation steps on the DB (@catwinbundle.sql & @utlrp.sql )

    Fellow admins
Sorry I am new to these Oracle CPU patches what is the difference between SAP Bundle and Oracle Patches besides Oracle CPU's are for Native ORacle systems and the Bundle patches have fixes related to SAP's interaction with Oracle? Is there any other things I should be concerned with?
    Thanks

    Hello Mike,
    An SBP contains the following:
o  The current Patch Set Update (PSU).
o  SAP-specific single patches and merge patches that are required but not contained in the PSU.
o  Generic patches that are not contained in the PSU.
o  The current SAP-specific optimizer merge patch.
o  README.html: Installation description for the SBP.
o  bugs_fixed.html: List of patches included.
SBPs are cumulative; that is, the next SBP contains all patches of its predecessor plus the newly-added patches.

    Hello,
I'm trying to apply the bundle patch 32, p9303471_10204_Win32.zip, on the readme.txt document says the following:
    NOTE for bug 8292378:
Follow the instructions below for a logical standby database.
On Windows platforms, the MAXLUBA_STACK Logical standby parameter may need to be adjusted to a smaller value to reduce virtual memory usage per-process. The default is 8000000. This value should be inversely proportional to the number of apply processes applying large transactions. [For e.g. start with 4million and adjust as needed if continue to run into out-of-memory errors.]
Set SQL apply parameter as follows using SQL*Plus:
    SQL> alter database stop logical standby apply;
    SQL> exec dbms_logstdby.apply_set('_MAX_LUBA_STACK', 4000000);
When I've run on my database I've get the following:
    SQL> alter database stop logical standby apply;
    Database altered.
    SQL> exec dbms_logstdby.apply_set('_MAX_LUBA_STACK', 4000000);
    BEGIN dbms_logstdby.apply_set('_MAX_LUBA_STACK', 4000000); END;

  • SAP Bundle Patches and Automatic Oracle parameter check script (note117165)

After reading SAP note 1027012 on SAP Bundle Patches and SAP note 1171650 on the
automatic Oracle parameter check script I have a simple question:
Is it still necessary to manually check whether some patch is installed in order to determine
exactly which event and fixcontrol to set?
Or is the automatic Oracle parameter check script so sophisticated that it is fully
sufficient to implement its recommendations, and you don't neet to manually
check any more which SBP with which bugfixes has been installed?
It would be great if SAP could confirm that the automatic parameter check is sufficient,
but so far I haven't seen this statement explicitly. I believe this is mostly because it
is so difficult (impossible?) to determine via SQL which patches have been applied.

    Mark

    Yes and No.
until now, fixcontrol are dependent of CBO patches and those are "register" on the view v$system_fix_control. They can be "check" autmatically, so you get the "proper" recommendation for those.
the parameter event depends on different situations, like some patches. But those patches are "normal" patches and it is not possible to check if they are installed from inside the DB with a simple script. For those, the check script will tell you to do it manually and will tell you which patch has to be check
In addition, there are other parameters that have to be check "manually", like processes (where you get a "semiautomatic" check) or db_cache_size, where you should check if the size

The automatic parameter check is sufficient, meaning that you get all information, including the parameters that you have to check manually and some information for that check. Currently, it is not possible to automatize it 100%

  • Which patch to apply in OEM 12c 12.1.0.4 -  PSU or Bundle patch

    Hello All,
Could you please help me to understand - which patch to apply in OEM 12c 12.1.0.4 -  PSU or Budle patch ?  Per doc id - Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4.0 (PS3) Master Bundle Patch List for Agent and Plug-ins (OMS and Agent side) (Doc ID 1900943.1) -
which of the below  mentioned patch to be applied in OMS ?
1> System Patch 12.1.0.4.10 - Patch 20675595 (This is a single Sytem patch that includes all the OMS-Side Plug-in Bundles released this month as well as OMS-side Plug-ins released in previous months.)
    or
2> For 12.1.0.4, this is Patch: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/BugDisplay?parent=DOCUMENT&sourceId=1900943.1&id=20392036https://updates.oracle.com/ARULink/PatchDetails/process_form?parent=DOCUMENT&sourceId=1900943.1&aru=20392036 &patch_password=&no_header=020392036 (12.1.0.4.3 PSU).  Please refer to Note.1995267.1 for the latest PSU patches available for Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 4 (12.1.0.4).
We recently upagraded our OEM from 12.1.0.2 to 12.1.0.4  with out using software updates option  during upgrade, hence none of the PSUs are applied to OEM. Now we want to apply latest OEM  patches which fixes all the fixes and bug/securities.
I thought BP will include PSU as well but  why does DOC id - 1900943.1  says - NOTE: We recommend that you always apply the most recent quarterly PSU.  For 12.1.0.4, this is Patch: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/BugDisplay?parent=DOCUMENT&sourceId=1900943.1&id=20392036https://updates.oracle.com/ARULink/PatchDetails/process_form?parent=DOCUMENT&sourceId=1900943.1&aru=20392036 &patch_password=&no_header=020392036 (12.1.0.4.3 PSU).  Please refer to Note.1995267.1 for the latest PSU patches available for Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 4 (12.1.0.4). ??
    Please help .

    The answer is Yes.
The PSU is core OMS patches (think console, incident rules, notifications, etc.) This gets applied to your OMS ORACLE_HOME (i.e. /u01/app/oracle/mw/oms)
The Plugin System Bundle is a compilation of all the latest plugin patch bundles (So for DB Plugin bundle it contains all the latest DB Plugin fixes).  The system patch will apply required patches as necessary, skip what's not.
You can read more about the various patches here -

  • What is the difference between cluster patch and bundle patch

    hi every one
can any one please tell me the difference between cluster patch and bundle patch ... for what purpose we apply cluster patch and bundled patch

There is no inherent difference between a patch cluster and a patch bundle that I am aware of.
Its just a name for collections of patches.
For whatever reason, the regular collections of recommended patches that sun puts out happen to be referred to as the recommended patch cluster.
The "all patches to bring you up to 5/08" that sun is putting out happens to be being called the 5/08 patch bundle.
I don't think they meant anything by the distinction. But thats the first time the term "patch bundle" has been used that I'm aware of.
So maybe there is some new patch delivery/installation technology implied. But I doubt it.
