91% health and 52 cycles of MBP 13inch battery

I have bought early 13inch MBP last may2011 with running 10.6.8 as OS and the battery health was 91% and has 52cycles. Is this bad or is it normal?

As long as your mac keeps 80% of its origional capacity within 1000 cycles Apple considers the battery to be normal.  You can bring your mac to an Apple store or AASP and have them test the battery if you have any concerns that it may be faulty.

  • My iPod says the battery is low, the apple symbol appears and then cycles back to low battery message?

My older iPod classic says when I dock it either with charger or hooked up to computer that the battery is low, the apple symbol appears, you can hear a whirring sound (hard drive coming on) then a clicking sound and then back to low battery message.  Has been doing this for the last week.

    Hey there Kevin,
It sounds like your iPod Classic is exhibiting some unexpected behaviour when you have it connected to your computer with the usb cable. I suggest the troubleshooting steps in the following article to help troubleshoot the device:
    iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Start by resetting the iPod, then retesting the issue.
    Reset
    To reset your iPod:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • MacBook with a year old battery and 340 cycles has consumed its battery?

Since I purchased my MacBook which was about 2 years ago It has been repaired 3 times due to the flickering of the screen. They have changed the battery last year and since then the battery has only lasted about 2 hours. I took it to the Mac store and the genius told me that the machine is at 341 and the battery has been consumed?? How is that possible? I've never been able to get anything more than 2 hours with this labtop. I feel that I got a lemon and they won't just admit it! I'm not impressed....Anyone else with the same problem?

How long your battery lasts on a charge is directly related to how you use your MacBook.
Those that like to watch DVD's or YouTube a lot, will run the batteries down fairly fast. Also, if you fan is running a lot, this also runs down the battery fast. If you have the minimum RAM in your MB, then accessing your hard drive more often will also accelerate your battery drain. Have you been calibrating your battery? You should do it about once per month?
As they say, "Your mileage may differ." depending on how you drive your car.
Give us more information and we may be able to help you. Is this your first Mac?

  • Transferring iTunes library and iPhoto from 15inch MBP to new 13inch MBP

I have just taken delivery of a new MBP 13inch and wish to transfer Itunes
    ( 5,ooo tracks) and iPhoto( 4,000 photos)from the older 15inch MBP.
I have moved documents via IDisk as there were only a few.
    I have a firewire but it is a 400 at each end.The new 13inch requires an 800
I have backed up the old 15inch to a little Lacie external hard drive but the inputs on the hard drive are a different size on the 13inch so can't go that route.
Do I have to buy a firewire with 400 at one end and 800 at the other, with delays and delivery charges ( i live a day's journey from an Apple store)?
    Is there an easier way?
I am a Mobile me memeber so mail, contacts etc are not a problem.
    Any help appreciated.

To use a FW400 drive you will need a converter cable. You may find one at a local electronics outlet. If the drive supports USB and you have an appropriate cable you could use the drive in USB mode.
Otherwise you could connect both computers to your home network and transfer data that way using File Sharing - select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "file sharing." If you have an Ethernet cable you can connect the two directly by Ethernet cable and create a computer-to-computer network (could also do the same wirelessly.)

  • Battery Health and ways to bring it up again?

I've had my MacbookPro for a little over two months now and 31 cycles on it. However, I have already lost 7% battery health, leaving me at only 93%. I'm pretty sure that this is not good, and that the loss shouldn't be this rapid.
I'm sure it has something to do with the way I use the computer. I leave it on quite often, which I know isn't a good thing, but had no idea that it would drain the battery like this. In some cases the computer is on for days at a time. I've gotten into a routine where each morning I turn it off for the bus ride to school, where I use it throughout the day. The night before it remains on so that I can quickly check things in the morning.
I currently use my MacbookPro as a semi-desktop. I have it hooked up to an external monitor, and use a wireless mighty mouse and wired keyboard, which is primarily the reason it's on for such long stretches.
Now that you have some background as to what I do with the computer I'd like to know if there is any way to replenish the battery health, or if that 7% is lost for good.
I've read up on this calibrating of the battery business, and I'm going to try it this weekend (can't during the week because I need it fully charged for school each day).
What exactly does this do? Does it actually replenish the battery health or just determine it's actual current percentage?
I'm using the widget iStat Pro as my monitor of battery health.
If any other information is required, I'd be happy to provide it.
    Thank you.

    dnovelta:
use the battery frequently and lightly for best longevity. Apple states "An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge."
    Read these:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    Hope this helps...
    Courcoul:
Full Charge Capacity (which is what the specific battery clocked at the factory when first tested).
Just a minor correction, but can be significant. Full charge capacity is not "what the specific battery clocked at the factory", it's a nominal value, i.e. a general property of the battery type, not that specific battery. Specific batteries have a range of full charge capacities (when new). In fact, it's not even measured, it's calculated - for the 15", it's a 60 Watt-hour battery (from the specs), and it runs at 10.8 V (printed right on the battery). Thus, with a basic formula (W = V x A), an algebraic rearrangement, and some simple math, 60 Wh / 10.8 V = 5.555 Ah = 5555 mAh (~5500 mAh, which iStat uses as the denominator for "health", although I have read that under Leopard iStat uses 5600 mAh, just a rounding difference). My 17" with a 68 Wh battery calculates to 6296 mAh, ~6300 mAh - my replacement battery actually started with ~6800 mAh in System Profiler.
    Just FYI...

  • Will this fit on a 2011 MBP 13inch ?

500GB 2.5" Western Digital 'Scorpio BLACK' 7200RPM SATA 9.5mm Notebook HD 16MB Cache.
Is it possible to replace the stock hard drive with this hard drive in a MBP 13inch.

I originally purchased a WD Scorpio Black 7200750GB (WD7500BPKT) and the vibrations were very noticeable. I had to exchange it for a Hitachi. I can't stress how noticeable the vibration of this drive were as ompare to the original stock 5400 RPM drive.
I ended up with a Hitachi 7k500 7200RPM 500GB (HD20500 IDK/7K) drive and have been very happy with it so far. Vibration is consistent with the original stock 5400 RPM drive (which is virtually non-existent) and the speed increase was very noticeable. Battery-life does not appear to be affected.
Another contender was the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid 7300RPM 75-GB, which I would have tried next if I wasn't satisfied with the Hitachi.

  • 93% health in 5 cycles

    Hey,
I just bought my first Mac last week and am loving it. When I first got it, I charged it up, installed software updates then calibrated the battery. When the battery got low today, I plugged it in to charge. When I came back I saw that coconut battery and istat pro was showing the battery had a 93% health (5087mAh).
Is this fairly normal or could something be wrong? The computer is 5 months old (I bought it new last week) and has had 5 cycles.
    Thanks,
    Conor

Sorry Conjon. I somehow missed the "new", and assumed that it was second hand as you said it was five months old.
The same applies whether it was on the warehouse shelf or in someone's desk, of course. The battery hasn't been used for a significant period and this isn't particularly good for these batteries, especially if the storage conditions weren't well regulated for temperature etc..
If you purchased it at full price I wouldn't give it too long before taking it back, simply because you can usually simply exchange it for a new one if you do so within 14 days.
If the figure is going up within this period (with the sort of usage pattern that you have at present) you probably don't have much to worry about. If it declines before this period expires though, I'd be more concerned. A good strategy may be to tell the vendor that you are a bit worried about the battery now, and indicate that you are going to give it a few days to see how it progresses. May make things "smoother" if you do decide to return it.
Either way you will still have the 1000 cycle / 80% capacity warranty available to you within the first twelve months, of course.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Brand new MBP 13inch VERY HOT

So i bought my new MBP 13inch about a month ago and ive noticed that it is slower than my old macbook (black 2007 model) dispite haveing double the ram and a better processor. Also I have noticed that it has become very hot. It starts after about 15minutes of use and it stays very hot. I can not have it on my lap.
Ive gone to the genius bar once for both of these problems and was told that everything is fine, but I cannot accept that since it is slower and so much hotter than my old macbook. I think this specific laptop may be a lemon.
Anyone know if these problems are normal?

.....Another thing that happened. Today i was watching youtube videos on my MBP and the screen would go to black, I thought the computer went to sleep but it was completely unresponsive. After a few attempts at trying to get it to wake up(with no luck) I decided to kill the power. After waiting a minute with the computer being off i just hit the power button again and the computer would start up and begin loading, but after a few seconds it would die again. I went through this process 4-5 times before it would fully load......
Sounds like the logic board may already be in its death throes.....if LB does die soon, then insist on a replacement MBP; the logic board IS a weak point on MBPs and LB failure is not uncommon.
Welcome to the world of declining MBP quality and reliability...."sigh".
Anyway, as I've said, time and again, anyone who purchases a new MBP should definitely purchase an AppleCare extended warranty before the one year warranty runs out.
A MBP owner without it is just playing Russian roulette.

  • MBP 13inch Fuzzing Sound

I purchased a new MBP 13inch in Febuary this year (2012).
Over the course of the past three weeks I have noticed a fuzzing noice coming from the left hand side of the speaker area, when music is played (mainly vocal)
As soon as I noticed this problem I took the unit into an Apple Store to get the problem fixed, as anyone would agree I should not be putting up with this problem on a brand new MBP. The "genius" noticed the problem straight away.
So, they firstly replaced all speakers. Left, right and subwoofer! So I thought great....get back home to perfect sound quality.
Oh no, the problem was even worse. So, I took it back to the Apple store for a second time (within a week). If i'm honest both myself and the "genius" could not hear the problem in store. However, they went to the extent of having a good look inside the MBP and even replacing the logic board!!!
Got it back home and I still have the same fuzzing sound coming from the the same place, it is extremely annoying!!
I have checked it had nothing to do with bit rate, I have checked the whole of my libary and I have not discovered any bad quality music!
Now, if I take it back a third time are they going to think I am a complete idiot. Could they replace the unit? Or will it just go in for repair....once again to waste my time.
If anyone has expirenced the same problem and overcome it.....please advise.
    Thanks

Try playing the music over headphones and/or external speakers.  Do you stilll have the problem?

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276 - new - Device error and Cleaning cycle issues

HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276 - this is a new printer a friend purchased at Staples. It connects WiFi okay and prints when prompted to but it then does a "Cleaning" cycle after every print job. It also displays "Device Error" at the same time. It has been powercycled as instructed and the error continues to reappear and the "Cleaning" cycle continues as well after each and every print job. My friend paid Staples to set up this printer to a new Acer Laptop and D-Link router he also purchased before he brought them home. He was told everything works fine .. they lied .. Laptop and router have no issues .. just the printer. The Laptop sees the printer okay and software is installed without issue. Any ideas why the "Device Error" and "Cleaning" cycle after every print job is happening? He is on the verge of taking the whole outfit back as Staples has not assisted him and instead directed him to download the manuals from HP. Any suggestions are appreciated

Have you tried a hard reset on it? I know you said you power cycled it, but a hard reset is sometimes different than what some people consider a power cycle.
Follow these steps to perform a hard reset on the printer.
    1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
    2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
    3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
    5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
    7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the power button to turn it on.
Try that out and let me know if it helps.
    Best of luck,
    Kyle

  • Is it possible to use my "My Passport Essential SE" external hard drive on my PC, and my MacBookPro? Is it possible to reserve like 300gb for my PC, and 700GB for my MBP? please advise

I have a 1TB external hard drive, and I just thought of the idea. If it would be possible to seperate space's with in the external HD. Like can I save 300gb off my PC, and 700gb off my MBP?
    Please advise

All you need to do is create 2 partitions on the hard drive. Format the Mac partition as GUID Mac Extended (Journaled) NOT case sensitive. When that's done, connect the drive to your Windows machine and format the other partition you just created with NTFS.

  • HT3924 can i use iMac keyboard and mouse when it is in Target Display Mode and attached to my MBP?

I can attach my iMac to my MBP via thunderbolt and run it in Target Display Mode, so that itsimply becomes a screen attached to my MBP.
What I really want is for the keyboard and mouse of my iMac to also operate as if they were attached to my MBP, but I cant seem to achieve this.
    Is it possible?

Its a wireless mouse and keyboard - dont think I can re-pair the keyboard to MBP since I need it talking to the iMac to enable and disable TDM?
I expected TDM to natively pass through the mouse and keyboard to the MBP, since that is the obvious user requirement. But this does not happen.
So I guess I want a workaround so my iMac keyboard and mouse can drive my MBP while attached via Thunderbolt cable in TDM mode.
