  • Terca 9100 lock ups

    Hi!
I recently got my hands on a second hand tecra 9100. I got it free since the previous owner complained about random lock ups or freezes. As i've testaed the laptop myself i experienced this aswell. It can freeze just about anytime but i've never had it running flawlessly for more than 20 minutes i recon. Sometimes it also refuses to start up. I do not know if this is a lock up in the initial startup sequence.
Anyway it will lock up even in bios and i have dissassembled it and put it back together, replaced the RTC battery (with a non rechargable) and removed any hardware not crucial for useage (i.e WiFi card, extra RAm modules, modem card).
I'm clueless, anyone got any idea of what to try next?
    Regards Simon

I think you cant fix it by yourself
In your case the ASP should check the notebook and if necessary replace the faulty part/device.

  • I have Win XP on a Dell 9100. I had FF 3.6.10 & tried many times to upgrade to 3.6.11 --- all unsuccessful. The next day, I saw 3.6.12 downloading. I seem to now have 3.6.12 . I don't know about 3.6.11 . How can I check on this?

I have had Mozilla Firefox for years. My computer is a Dell 9100 , and I use Windows XP. I have upgraded to each version of Firefox that was offered to me. Each upgrade was quick and easily done--up to, and including, Firefox 3.6.10 . I tried many times to upgrade to Firefox 3.6.11 , each time with no success. I have something like 21 copies of the downloaded Firefox 3.6.11 package. The next day, I resumed by quest to download & install 3.6.11 and saw, on my monitor, the 3.6.12 version of Firefox downloading. I don't recall how this happened. I know that I was only trying to download and install version 3.6.11 . Now, I seem to have, by looking at "About Mozilla Firefox" under "Help", Firefox 3.6.12 .
Q1. Is there a way I can check to see whether I have a valid download of 3.6.11 and/or 3.6.12 in my Firefox setup?
Q2. How can I know that all is OK, Firefox-wise? The answer to this question probably can help me a lot, in the future.
Q3. Can I delete all, or perhaps all but one, of those 3.6.11 downloads?
Q4. Any idea on why my difficulties occurred?
Q5. How might I avoid these difficulties in the future?
    Thank you for your help.

Firefox 3.6.12 is the current version and it was released only a few days after the release of Firefox 3.6.11 to fix a critical security issue that was discovered. The security fix was prepared and released within 48 hours after discovery.
I do not know what caused your problems in trying to upgrade to Firefox 3.6.11, but the point is moot now. Should you have future problems upgrading, please post back here and someone will assist you.
You can keep one copy of version 3.6.11 if you wish; I usually keep 2 prior versions plus the current version.
You can download the full version(s), not just the small update, from: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

  • Any Hope for a Konika-Minolta PagePro 9100?

My school just got me a Konika PagePro 9100 for tabloid printing, but I'm having trouble getting it to print 11x17 from my Macs. Gutenprint has drivers for PagePro 100, 6, 6e, 6ex, 8, 8L, but none of these seem to work. I can print with the Generic Postscript driver on 8.5x11, but so far no luck with 11x17.
Does anyone have any experience with this model?

Sorry, I spoke too soon! There was an installation disk that came with the printer, and I ran the thing -- but it did nothing. Printer set up came up with Generic Postscript Printer for the driver.
Turns out, the installer doesn't actually seem to "install" -- I could, though, grab the PPDs off of the CD and put them manually in Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/ -- adding the printer again finds the correct driver.
There it is, in case anybody else comes searching!

When I start up Novell GroupWise on my Tecra 9100 a blue screen appears? Very weird. Can anyone help me to stop this.

ditto--happened on my machine too. I found out that this blue screen can appear if True Color (32 bit) is selected under Colors in Display Properties. Both of you will have to download the update for the Display Driver from the Toshiba support pages. There is a txt file provided for instruction

  • Tecra 9100: WiFi not detected by WIndows XP

Hi! I have a Tecra 9100, which has just been reinstalled with a recovery disk and all Win XP updates and patches has been done. And all Toshiba specific issues have been fixed.... BUT still my WiFi card is not found by the OS. What could be the problem?
My Bluetooh works all fine, and responds to power on/off, but there is no reaction from the WiFi card. I have also tried to replace the WiFi board with another, but still no action.
Is there a "power-supply" only for the WiFi board that could be checked? An y other components that can be replaced? I have another computer that I can take/switch components from...
Edit: I have also upgraded the BIOS to 1.60
    Message was edited by: espen.bromstad@netcom

Hi, and thank You for the answer.
The OS does not recognice the WLAN card in the device manager, and there really is a WiFi card in the PC, and it is a compatible one.
Both cables are connected in the same places as on the first WiFi card, and the WLAN drivers are also installed...
Switch in front is enabled, and I hvae tried the Fn+F8, but nothing happens.
Is there any drawings of connections internal in the PC anywhere, or install instructions for installing WiFi card just to ensure that everything is done right? My guess is that either is there a lack of power to thw WiFi card or there is a error on the mainboard / bus that does that the OS will not see the WiFi card, but any other options / suggestions are welcome to be tried...

I am curretly running CS6 on my dell xps 9100
    Windows 7 64bit
    12GB Ram
    2TB HD + 0 Rate 2TB External Drive (x2)
Intel Core i7 930 operating at 2.8 gigahertz with an 8-megabyte cache.
      Memory and Storage
The Studio XPS 9100 can be equipped with up to 24 gigabytes of RAM. It uses Tri-Channel DDR3 SDRAM operating at 1333 megahertz. The computer has six DIMMs into which RAM can be plugged. The Studio XPS 9100 may have a hard disk size of up to 2000 gigabytes using SATA drives operating at 7200 rpm.

ATI Radeon HD5870 with 1024 megabytes of RAM
      Expansion and Networking
The Studio XPS 9100 has one PCI slot, three PCIe x1 slots, one PCIe x8 slot and one PCIe X16 slot. It has four USB 2.0 ports, a 15-in-1 card reader, a headphone port and a microphone port on the front panel. The rear ports into an IEEE 1394a port, surround-sound audio ports, four USB 2.0 ports, one eSATA port, an S/PDIF port and HDMI ports. It has integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit LAN through the RJ45 port on the back with optional internal Wireless-N. PCI card slot (PCI_1) 26

PCI Express x8 card slot (PCIE8_2)
      Chassis and Power
The Studio XPS 9100 is 19.4 inches high by 7.8 inches wide by 20.7 inches deep. It weighs about 40 pounds. A 525-watt power supply powers the computer.
I use Audition, Premiere Pro and After Effects (Dynamic Link) to edit concerts filmed on 4 HD Camera's (m2ts x3 and mp4) I also take and mix 6-8 tracks from soundboard and mix in audition. I find my system is struggling to keep up when I have done some color correction and then try to cut in multi-cam mode. My graphics card does not support CUDA and as stated above my system only has a 525w power supply. So a GeForce GTX 470, 570, 580 would not be compatable. I do not GAME but I work with large HD files (4 angles, 1-2 hours each, audio & effects).
My trouble is I don't know which one of the graffics cards that support Mercury play back, would be the best for my needs without having to upgrade my power source (if possable). I'm thinking a mid level card and another 8-12 ram upgrade would be more suited (and cheaper) to my needs, unless I'm going to need a power upgrade anyway. If someone could please let me know what card would help me with my worload of these that would be great! I guess what Im saying is can someone tell me which of these is compatable with my system and is it worth it for the change in performance I will see?

Right now I can get a 570 for 175 bucks... R4yMoNd. When I look at the 570 in comparison  to what I have it doesnt look as though itis going to make too much difference. http://www.hwcompare.com/9048/geforce-gtx-570-vs-radeon-hd-5870/ I'm sure however the CUDA cores will speed it right up. I'm no good when it comes to all that so thanks to both you for the help. I have tracked down a 670 in stock (seems tough) for $440 then I need a 700 w power supply for about 70. If the 570 should take care of the problems listed above thats what I'm going for.. Just wasnt sure if it would make the needed difference

  • No Password Keeper on 9100 - spent hours on forums, still can't get it to work! HELP!!!

Guys, before you ask me to search the forums etc, believe me I've exhausted every possible avenue to try and find out where the hell my password keeper has gone to!
    So here we are, this is the situation;
    1. Have an old Pearl 8110
    2. Bought a new Pearl 9100
    3. Backed up the 8110
    4. Restored everything onto 9100
    5. Where the password keeper? It's not there!
So what did I do next?
    1. Factory reset/wipe - still not there.
    2. Downloaded the OS6 from the website and reloaded that - still not there?
I've used the application loader and all I see in the application manager is the email set up. All the forums are saying that I can select/deselect applications to load and unload, but I can't see the password keeper anywhere.
Isn't there just a simple binary or something which I can download which I can then use the DM to upload onto the 9100?
Surely someone out there knows what to do and get this working again?
    Anyone?
    Thanks in advance!

then I think the OS you installed on your PC for 9100 is incomplete. I suggest you download it once more entirely,
uninstall the previous one, install the new one and at one point while using loader.exe you will be able to select financial dictionaries as well as applications including the Password Keeper.
In any case, you cannot use the ALX file for one specific model with another model.

  • How to use engineer's diagnostic CD for Tecra 9100

Has anyone used the Tecra Engineer's Diagnostic CD for the 9100 (or any other model if they are similar)? I have acquired the CD and have been able to get some of the diagnostics tests to run by booting to DOS 6.22 and the running the tests straight off the CD. There is probably a "correct" way to use this CD but I do not have any documentation.
Specifically, I'm trying to diagnose an irksome sound card problem -- it's not recognized by Windows and I can't install the Yamaha drivers. I've basically replaced EVERYTHING on this laptop and still no sound.
By EVERYTHING, I mean: both mainboards (upper/lower); sound card (three different cards!); CPU --- what else is there that could be connected to sound?
Anyway, if anyone can provide some guidance on using the Tecra 9100 Engineer's Diagnostic CD it would be greatly appreciated.
    no_bones

Maybe you have experience in computers but such CD was designed especially for the diagnostic tests on the Toshiba notebooks.
It has nothing to do with the usual computer tests and was designed not for everyone.
I think the service technicians need more documentations as only such CD to run a diagnostic test.
Such documentations are available only for the service partners and not for common persons therefore you will not find such documents for a personal usage.
By the way; I agree with Silas. Its a stupid idea to post something about the engineers CD in the Toshiba forum because such CD its not for everyone.

  • Wireless Cardbus - Tecra 9100

    Hi,
I have just re-installed XP with SP2 on to my 9100, and have downloaded the various drivers from the Toshiba web site and even gone to the Intel web site and got specific Chipset Drivers, most things working now.
But main problem is the internal Wireless card is not working fully, it is seen by XP and can connect to my Wireless router using WEP Key etc. but it will not pick up a DHCP address, and if I statically configure an IP address in I can not ping anything (loopback ping works), the fixed Ethernet port works fine.
I've also got an external PCMCIA Wireless card which behaves in the exact same way. So the thing in common I can see is the TI PCI-1410/ToPIC100 Cardbus Controllers, they are using Microsoft Generic Drivers, does anyone know where I can get any updated drivers for them? TI web site is no help! Or have any other suggestions? (I dont have the Recovery CD!)
    Many Thanks,
    Trent.
P.S. Can't get Display Hot Key driver to work either.

    Hi
First of all you should install the chipset utility from the Toshiba website and not from the Intel website because Toshiba recommend to install the drivers from the Toshiba download area.
If you install the OS manually (not from the Recovery CD) so it is very important that you will install the Toshiba stuff in the right order.
After installing the Windows and the SP2 you should install the chipset driver from the Toshiba website and the common modules. After this installation you can install graphic driver, sound driver, etc.
Please also check the Microsoft SP2 update informations on the website.
About you wireless issue: In my opinion its a router issue because both wireless cards cant pic the DHCP address. Well, nevertheless the TCP/IP protocol should be set to automatically and please check if the Windows wireless configuration is enabled.
I would also recommend to disable the encryption and then to try the connectivity.

My streaming video audio will cut out for several seconds at a time then return to normal again.  I can, when the audio cuts out, turn up the manual volume on my surround sound to hear however when audio returns, I get blasted until I turn down the surround sound again.   High CPU utilization *may* be a contributor to this problem - currently averaging about 95%.
What can I do to correct this problem?

    Hi MDS,
Here are the possible HP products for a Touchsmart 9100. Both models do not list Win 7 Home Premium as an HP supported operating system. Did you upgrade from Vista to Win 7 or did you perform a clean install of Win 7 Home Premium?
Both models also reflect this updated driver version (6.0.1.5932) for Realtek High Def Audio. You have driver version (6.0.1.7076) installed on your PC.
You could try installing the version per the above link if you have Win 7 Pro 32 bit or 64 bit installed.
Try checking your file system by opening an administrative command prompt and entering the following: sfc /scannow
You may have to schedule this task to run at the next boot. Please reboot your system to run the task.
Do you know which process is consuming all of your PC's CPU time?

  • VOX USB2.0 has no TV picture on Radeon 9100

Expecting that MSI VOX USB2.0 TV tuner will be great solution for me (easy to exchange between PC and notebook) I was surprised founding that it can't work on my PC with on-board Radeon 9100 graphics (9100 IGP chipset on Asus P4R800-VM motherboard). MSIPVS gets available channels regularly but there is no picture, some time I got some audio and that is all. Noting can solve my problem; I have replaced all the drivers (Vox and Ati) with latest but without results.
    Please help. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Cvijetic

I gave up on the Vox and decided to buy a Hauppauge PVR-350 instead. Unfortunately the PVR-350 also has some flaws (looks like many boards have a design-flaw that gives crappy sound and picturesound latency). After reading on a Hauppauge-forum that I was not the only one I returned the board and got a Hauppauge PVR-250 instead, which reportedly works much better. I can confirm that it did :-)
I now use it for all my tv watching and recording, and since it's even supported by MythTV I'm going to use this card for my homebuildt PVR.
Obviously, you DO get what you pay for sometimes. :-/

  • Tecra 9100: Dying motherboard/HDD

I have been experiencing intermittant problems with my 9100 for about two weeks. The latest symptoms are: 1. I/O Channel message when switching on. 2. If I get into boot sequence the PC hangs, 3. If I manage to start Windows (2k) it promptly craches (blue screen , physical memory dump).
Other symptons (intermittant) include noisy fan which then settles down, check ROM sum (I think thats what it said anyway).
    Any thoughts?

I would call and Toshiba Service centre and see if they are aware of the issue, It does sound like the System has a problem and they should be able to advise the course to fix it.

  • Which is better HP Touchsmart 600 or 9100?

Hi everybody This is my first post here at HP, i need a little help i'm going to buy an HP Touchsmart PC, is there a big difference between 600 & 9100 and which is better Touchsmart 600 or 9100? for me 13h a day hard work! 3D games! etc
    any help would be appreciated
    Best regards

    Put it this way:
I have a 6 year old Epson scanner that has sucessfully scanned 16,000+ photos, plus umpteen documents.
If for some reason I was faced with having to buy another scanner, Epson would be first place I would look. Canon would be second (love their printers), HP would be last.
Please don't ask me why, this is a purely subjective gut-feeling opinion!

I made a big mistake buying a moblie Phone QTEK 9100 better known as Wizard in other countries than Switzerland.
This This is a Windows Mobile 5.0 Device with all you can think except that it does not work at all with my Mac.It is not compatile with isync at all. Wireless works sometimes and sometimes not and it has other problems too.
But is there a possibility to make it run with isync so I could sync my calendar and my adressbook ? This would really help me.
Does Apple plan to support isync with mobile 5. 0 somehow ?
