915 G combo MoBo does not detect IDE Hard Disk

I assembled a system on 915 G combo MoBo. First time the BIOS recognized them as IDE 3 master/slave. After changing BIOS setting  for ATA/IDE Configuration  as Compatible and Configure SATA  as IDE BIOS detected Master and Slave HDD on IDE 1. But it did not detect my Sony CD writer and Sony DVD ROM drive on IDE 2. When I re-connected 40 GB Samsung HDD as master and DVD ROM drive as slave on IDE 1 BIOS only detected DVD drive as slave on IDE 1 but did not detect HDD saying IDE 1 Master not detected. I tried lot of combinations but same thing repeats. Please suggest me the solution. I want to use 40 GB Samsung HDD and 20 GB Seagate HDD as Master and Slave on IDE 1 and Sony CD-R/RW writer as master and Sony DVD ROM drive as slave on IDE 2. Plese help me out.
915P/G Combo PCI-E (MS-7028) motherboard

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

  • ArchLinux does not recognize IDE hard drives

I recently bought a new Gigabyte motherboard (GA-EP35-DS3P).  At the BIOS level, everything is OK.  The motherboard detects my hard drive and correctly reports its size, etc.  It places it at IDE Channel 4 Master.  However, when I boot Arch, no drives are recognized and I am taken to the recovery shell.
I tried another distribution (Linux Mint) and everything worked fine.  The drives were identified as /dev/sda and /dev/sdb.  They could be mounted and read just fine.  I hope I don't need to abandon Arch!

    jbromley wrote:
GRUB uses the BIOS to access the disk since when you boot, since there is no OS loaded. This is why GRUB can work but Linux can't find the hard drive Only once Linux boots will the /dev/sd* devices come into being.
Anyway, do you get any error or warning messages when you are booting before you are dropped into the recovery shell? You say you "boot" Arch, so I take this to mean you selected Arch from the GRUB boot menu, right? My first guess is that perhaps you need to regenerate your initcpio because it doesn't contain the correct drivers for your new equipment. Perhaps try running mkinitcpio to regenerate the initcpio files. If that alone doesn't work you may have to tweak your mkinitcpio.conf file to include the correct drivers.
    Good luck,
    j
The error message I get is:
"Attempting to create root device '/dev/sda6' ERROR: Failed to parse block device name for '/dev/sda6' unknown ERROR: root fs cannot be detected. Try using the rootfstype= kernel parameter.
Root device '/dev/sda6' doesn't exist, attempting to create it
ERROR: Failed to parse block device name for '/dev/sda6'
ERROR: Unable to create/detect root device '/dev/sda6'
Dropping to a recovery shell... type 'exit' to reboot
NOTE: klibc contains no 'ls' binary, use 'echo *' instead
I think the problem is exactly as you diagnosed.  How would you recommend running mkinitcpio as I cannot boot Arch?  I can boot into another distro and do a chroot to the Arch installation, but I don't think this would work right...

  • Lightroom does not detect external hard drive

I am a newcomer to Lightroom and I'm trying to move my photos (25,000+) from my laptop to external hard drive. I've already copied the catalog over there (following online video tutorial by David Marx). I thought the way to move the actual photos was to drag and drop them using the left panel within Lightroom. But no matter what I do, Lightroom does not show my external hd (LaCie), so I can't drag/drop. Am I right that this is the way to do it?
Strangely, Lightroom does "see" the LaCie when I open the "Import" function.
    Thanks for any help.
    Dylan

Is your LaCie formatted? Do you see it in your OS?
    --Yes.
    If yes, try the following:
In your OS move one folder to your LaCie.
Open LR. In the folders panel there should be a question mark besides the folder you just moved - at the old location!
Right-click this folder and point LR to the new location on the LaCie.
--So far, so good. But now LR sees LaCie as a folder, not a drive. And none of the folders that are already on the LaCie are visible.
If Lr lets you do this you're fine and from then on you can use the drag-and-drop method within LR.
Or, alternatively you can move all the other folders in your OS and then point LR to the new location. It might be a bit faster to make the move in your OS.

  • New MBP i5 does not boot after hard disk swap

    Hi there,
I received my new i5 MBP today. After booting it once with the installed HDD to check if it's ok, I exchanged the hard disk for the one in my Late 2008 Macbook Pro. After doing this, my Late 2008 Macbook Pro boots fine with the (new) hard disk from the new i5 MBP, but the i5 MBP does not boot with my old hard disk.
    To give you some details:
    - I have installed 10.6.3 on the (old) hard disk that's not booting.
    - The i5 MBP boots fine from the installation DVD
    - Disk utility finds and can read my hard disk, no errors
    - PRAM NVRAM reset did not help
    - when booting in safe mode, I can see the system stop booting after or while loading Extensions.mkext
My guess is, it tries to boot and load the wrong Extensions for the new system (CPU? GPU?). I have no idea how to fix this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Focx,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Inserting the drive from an earlier model MBP will probably not work. The version of the system you have on that HD is designed for earlier hardware so when you put in in your new machine it's going to be recognized. What I'd recommend is re-installing the disk that came with the new machine and of course putting the 2008's disk back in the old machine. Then use Migration Assistant on the new machine and migrate your data from the old machine into the new machine.
This will provide a much more stable system and should work just fine.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • MacBook does not see internal hard disk

Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, but I have searched so many forums that my head is swimming!
My boyfriend connected a new USB drive to his MacBook, formatted the new disk, copied some backup data onto it. At some point, the MacBook hung, so he held down the power key until the MB turned off.
Each time we restart it now, we get the flashing-folder-with-question-mark, and Tiger won't boot.
I have tried almost all of the tips I can find, and was even willing to reinstall OS X, however... the MacBook does not appear to see it's internal hard disk. As such, I cannot perform first aid on the disk via booting to setup DVD, and I cannot reinstall OS X.
If I boot from the OS X install disk, and use Disk Utility, the MB only sees the CD-RW/DVD-RW drive and the install disc. No internal HD ever shows up.
Help! I am at a loss as to how to fix...

Let me guess: you're also experiencing a low clicking noise from the right side of your mac immediately after you turn it on, right? Same thing happened to me and others, in fact there are several threads on this subject already:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=960977&start=0&tstart=0

My drive was done for, and no data could be saved. I ended up buying a new drive, and now I'm just hoping the same thing doesn't happen again. I'm beginning to get a sense that this problem is occurring on a more frequent level now that the 1st generation macbooks have reached their 1-year birthday, give or take. Let's hope Appel fesses up if it is indeed a design flaw.
Anyway, you most likely need a new drive. I just got a Hitachi Travelstar 250 gb for around 200$US, so they're quite cheap, and VERY easy to install, just 3 screws, slide it in, boot up, run disk utility, erase/format and you're good to go.

  • P35 motherboard suddenly not detecting IDE hard drive

    Hi,
    I have a P35 MSI platinum motherboard. E6750 Core 2 duo 2.6HZ cpu, 2 x 1GB DDR2 ram,a standard DVD R/W, a 400GB Hitachi Deskstar HDD, a GTS 8800 graphics card and running Ultimate vista (oem).
She's been running fine for over a year.
Yesterday - I turned her on and although on initial boot up you can see '400GB PATA' , and the MSI loading screen vista won't load and screen is blank.
I put in the vista disk for repair but at the point where it shows your operating system - that space is empty.
So I went into BIOS and the HDD is not being detected at all.
I toggled some of the IDE settings but still no go.
Both my HDD and the DVD R/W are on the iDE ribbon cable. DVD seems to be working fine and, as stated above, HDD has been working fine for a year until yesterday.
Any ideas as to how I can get BIOS to re-discover the HDD? OR any ideas why it isn't being discovered now  (after all this time)?
Also - to get everything back up and try to recover some of the data off my IDE HDD I am thinking about buying a SATA HDD, reinstalling windows and working from there. Any reason why this shouldn't work?
Finally - IF that works, I have a number of IDE drives lying around that I'd like to connect up to the MSI p35 - but at the moment the ribbon cable I have only has two connectors (currently used by by DVD R/W and my rebellious IDE HDD).  Is it possible to add say 2 more IDE drives? would I need to get a ribbon cable with more connectors? Or is it not possible and IDE cables only come with 2 connectors anyway?
Any help much appreciated - I am not exactly a noob but I have nowhere near the skill levels of some of you guys - really appreciate your thoughts.
    Cheers,
    TOOTR

This time F11 worked and I had a boot order choice. I clicked on the IDE HDD (hitachi).

I can see it is if I try to change the Boot sequence - I can clearly see HItachi and the DVD R/W.

Ok  - the quick test showed no errors.

the advanced test found no errors either.
    @TOOTR:
Can you hook up the hard drive to a working computer and run chkdsk (Checkdisk) and fixmbr (or a similar tool)?  Try to access and backup any important data on the drive before you check its data/partition structure for integrity.

  • K7T Turbo2 not detecting IDE devices

I just got this board in yesterday from Newegg.com. Floppy drive, fans, etc work fine. But it will not intiate any IDE devices. Hard drive, cdrom, or zip drive. All cables have been checked, hard drive works great, cdrom/s are fine. All bios settings look correct.
Bios does not detect the cdrom or hard drive. All jumpers set correctly. Stand alone for the WD HD on IDE1, and master for the Cdrom on IDE2.
Have tried the HD on IDE2 also. Nothing works.
Is it a bios problem or a bad MB?
    Thanks for any Ideas.

    Hi,
You try setting the HDD to Master instead of cable select? Make sure you didn't install the IDE cables backwards. Blue header in mobo.

  • Aperture does not detect CF Card

I am using Aperture 2 with my Canon EOS 30D. I used 2GB Sandisk CF cards and have had no issues ever. Recently I bought a 4GB and 16GB CF card and for some reason Aperture/Mac does not detect these cards. When I connect my camera via USB to my macbook, and click import, it does not show my Canon as a drive available to choose pics from. With my 2GB card it does.
    Any ideas?

Does the card show up in the Finder? I suspect this isn't an Aperture issue.

  • AirPort does not detect networks, unless another network connection is made

I've just done a clean install of OS 10.5 to see if this problem was software related, but it persists.
AirPort does not detect any network the computer is near (tested in various locations) normally, but when connecting to a network via Ethernet or to another Mac via Firewire to use network sharing, it can update and load web pages as normal. A strange quirk I've noticed though, whenever connecting with ethernet or firewire, AirPort will suddenly detect the network! It still can't quite connect to WiFi properly though. While still connected through firewire or ethernet, it will have no connectivity through a self-assigned IP. If it is disconnected from ethernet and firewire again, the wireless network will still show up in a re-scan for networks but it will fail to connect.
I've opened the computer up to ensure that the airport extreme card is seated properly as well, and that the antenna cable is secured properly.
Any ideas as to what the issue is? Should I look into replacing the AirPort Extreme card?

Got no answer on my original post, so I went ahead with ordering a replacement AirPort card on eBay (item #130487488014). Once installed, the iMac was able to detect and connect to networks normally... but was still unable to load any web pages. I tried on secured and unsecured networks as I did previously, and plugging directly into the router and into my Macbook Pro via firewire, with the same results as before. Safari loads pages when connected with an ethernet or firewire cable, but will not load pages on WiFi alone. I can attempt to access a router setup page via WiFi, and am prompted for a username/password, but the page itself never manages to load.
Any clues as to what may be going on here?!

  • Arch does not detect /dev/sdb

Like the title says, Arch does not detect a second SATA hard drive I have installed on my computer.

I had the drive connected to a eSATA port, but I pluged it to a ordinary SATA port, and the result is the same.
    The configuration on the BIOS:
    ATA/IDE Mode -> Native
    Configure Storage as -> IDE
It doesn't show more valuable information except for the location of any drive on any SATA port.
dmesg output, it can be useful for someone:

  • Internet connection "Does not detect a dial tone" ????

    Help!
I have not been able to connect to the internet on my imac G5 for the last couple of weeks. I have tried the usual connect and restart computer and have spoken to my ISP who say it's not to do with them. The message 'does not detect a dial tone' comes up when i try and connect via the modem. I am now at a loss as to what to do. It does appear to be a Mac problem (having spoken to Mac support aswell), but short of re-installing the OS i am not sure what action to take next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Noticed you are running Panther on an iMac G5? Is that correct?
What are your external modem settings in your System Preferences>Network/TCP/IP and modem panels? What changed in your system just prior to your not being able to connect to the Internet?
Short of reinstalling the OS, you can reapply the combo update for the particular version of OS X you are running.
    Please post back.

  • Lightroom 5 does not detect my camera, a Nikon D600, in tethered capture. Can someone assist?

Lightroom 5 does not detect my Nikon D600 in tethered capture. I have tried turning the camera off then on and also turned the computer off then on.  I am using windows 7.  Anyone have any ideas?

I am having the same problem with both my D610 and my D800.  Both worked fine in the past.  In both cases, I can import files from the camera via 'Import', so I know the USB connection to the computer is fine, but Neither camera is detected during tether.
Mac OSX 10.10.2 and LR 5.7

  • Satellite Pro C660-1NQ does not detect WLan network

    Hi Guys,
We have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1NQ here which does not detect the wireless network at all,
I have checked device manager and the wireless card does not show in here.
I tried scanning for new hardware, but nothing was found. I tried turning the wireless off/on with the function and F8 keys but still not showing in device manager or finding any new hardware.....
Any ideas as to what i can try next?
    Cheers,
    Ash

    Hi
It seems that the notebook would support the Atheros 802.11agn Wlan card.
Usually the Atheros Wlan card should be listed in device manager under in the menu Network Adapters.
If its not listed then I recommend installing the WLAN driver which can be downloaded here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
Choose the Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter Windows 7 (32/64) 9.2.0.419.0 or newer
Hope this helps to detect the Wlan chip!!!

  • Does not detect HDD & CD-ROM!! heeeelp

    Hello!!
I recently conected a new motherboard to a friend's computer (MSI 6368).  I connected everything, but when I boot, the BIOS does not detect the HDD and the CD-ROM. I think that is something to do with the BIOS configuration, but I dont know much about it and cant figure put what went wrong with it.  I tested another HDD to see if the current is damaged, but didn't detect the other also.
I tought that maybe a BIOS update can do something, but I cant update the BIOS from a floppy.
Please can someone help me out with this??? ;(
    thanx!!!
