[915 Series] 915G dont reconyze my G.Skill as pc3200!

My new memory G.Skill (F1-3200PHU2-1GBZX http://www.gskill.com/f1-3200phu2-zx.html ) its not reconyzed as pc3200 and its runing at 266(133) !!!
My Syntem: MSI 915G(bios 1.6), MSI X600XT, Win XPse etc
I can manually set the DDR frequency to 400mhz but it makes no difference. The only way i can raise it back to DDR400 is to up the CPU FSB to 240, with the multiplier locked this makes my 3.0G cpu into a 3.6 and to be honest i dont want to go down that road.
The ratio was changed to 5 : 4 and i cant change this option on 915G. I think the devider is holding somehow this frequencie.
When i put back my old Corsair Value on it everything its fine again. Ratio 1:1.
Sorry about my english
Any advide.... cheers

Check if you've something called spread spectrum in your BIOS, if there's one, disable it.
Next, we don't have any beta BIOS here as this is a user to user forum so please contact MSI directly with regards to this.

  • [915 Series] 915G-Combo with OCZ-DDR2-533/4200 no post - help!

    I was hoping one of you wonderful experts on this board might be able to help.  I just bought a pair of OCZ DDR2-RAM and am having trouble getting the system to recognize it.  Here are the specs:
    RAM specs:
     - 533MHz DDR2, unbuffered CL 3-3-3-8
     - 1GB (2X512) dual channel optimized gold kit
     - 1.8V 240pin DIMM
     - 2.2V EVP - OCZ's unique Extended Voltage Protection feature allows PC2-4200 modules to handle voltages up to 2.2V ±5%
     - OCZ part number:-OCZ25331024ELDCGE-K
    System specs:
        * CPU model and rated speed:-Intel Socket775 2.8GHzE
        * Not Overclocked
        * Motherboard and revision:-MSI 915G-combo
        * Motherboard Bios rev:-1.7 (latest)
        * Video card:-ATI X800XL
        * Power supply:-450W
        * Operating System:-XP Pro SP2
    My current Crucial DDR-400 PC3200 CT6464Z40B 2x512MB RAM runs without problems installed.  When I switched out the Crucial RAM and installed the OCZ DDR2-533 PC4200 RAM in the appropriate DDR2 slots (1 and 3), no go.  The system won't even post and I can't get into the BIOS.  I tried using even just one of the 512MB sticks, alternated sticks, and even tried just one stick in DDR2 in slot3 instead of slot1 - no go. My boot drives don't get accessed either as I had even placed a Memtest bootdisk in the floppy hoping it might be able to access that.
    I've been working over the last 24hrs with the very helpful OCZ folks but we havn't been able to get anywhere.  I realize that OCZ isn't technically on the 'tested and verified' DDR2-list for the 915G-combo board, but OCZ is a good name brand (up there with Crucial) and I went for the higher-end Gold-series (CAS3) so I figured it wouldn't be a problem.
    I've tried clearing the CMOS (no effect except to wipe out my bios settings).  I have a D-Bracket2 installed and it hangs when the upper right light is green with the rest red (according to the D-bracket guide, that means 'Memory Detection Test - will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly'.  I can't imagine the RAM is bad - I have 2 matching ones to test (neither seem to work when installed by itself), and just got it brand new from Monarchcomputers yesterday evening in their retail box unopened.
    Per OCZ's advice, I was unable to manually set a CAS of 4 with my Crucial DDR installed (I could only manually set it to a max of 3), so I also test-tried a manual set of the BIOS memory timing to 3-4-4-10 while the Crucial DDR RAM was installed and then retried the system with only the new DDR2 installed in their appropriate slots (Crucial DDR of course removed).  Still no luck - the system won't get to bios and hangs at the Memory Test per D-Bracket2.  It won't even get to a point where it tries to access/boot from floppy so that I can't run MemoryTest from disk.
    Would anyone else out there recommend trying something else, short of going out and shelling out $140 for an ABit AA8-925X mboard that OCZ actually lists as compatible with their RAM?  My MSI 915G-Combo board has been flawless for me up to now and I'd hate to part with it just because it won't work with good OCZ DDR2 ram.  One thing I havn't tried is attempting to use an older BIOS version - I had flashed to the latest v1.7 bios prior to installing the DDR2 ram, so I've never actually tried any of the older versions.  Does anyone think this would be worth a shot?
    Cheers
    - James

    Thanks... I tried that.... still no go...
    I just got an email from OCZ techsupport (they had requested that I email them directly).
    "we have identified a problem with the PC4200 Gold DDR2 dimms, we need to get you a pair with reprogrammed SPD info on them. So we need to swap your kit out"
    They were very apologetic about it, and from what I can tell I don't think this happens a lot with OCZ ram...
    So that hopefully will be the solution to my problem.. I'm processing an RMA with them right now.. will let you know how it goes.. it's a 'relief' to find out that it most likely isn't my MSI-915G board's fault after all...
    Kudos to OCZ at least for getting back to me so quickly, even though it does suck to have my memory delayed again.. I'll post again when I get the replacement RAM and let you all know how it goes...  at least they've identified a problem and are willing to take care of it rather than leaving me hanging...

  • [915 Series] 915G query

    I've got this set up to go to a school who want 1 80 gig hard drive for windows, etc. and then 2 identical 120Gig drives set up as RAID mirroring to save the kids data on.
    I got it set up ok (finally !) but the 80Gig main drive is running at ATA133 and the mirrored drives at ATA33.  Is this ok as it's taken 2 and a half hours to sync the mirrored drives?
    Also why is the blue socket always shown as ide master 3 no matter what's put on it ?
    Thanks
    Andy

    There are a few boards that start with 915G, so it's only a guess as to which one you have. I assume it is one with the Via raid controller if you are using ATA designations. ATA33 does not sound correct. Where are you reading this?
    The IDE numbers in the bios are not related to the physical IDE numbers on the board. As long as you can boot, don't worry where the drive shows up.

  • [915 Series] Motherboard Suggestion Request (P4 840 D)

    I am looking for any recomendation on a motherboard.  I am looking at purchasing the Intel P4 840D processor and I want to know what MB would be a good one.  I would like to find one with AGP as my video card is AGP, or would it be best to eat the card and upgrade to PCI-Express?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.  (Also is SATA backward compatible to IDE so I can re-use my IDE HDD?)

    Don't pick up any 915 series boards for P4 840D. You should pick 945, 955 and 975X boards instead. Go for Intel chipset boards, don't go for NForce4's as yours is a Pentium D.
    Do you have a 550W power supply?
    SATA is not compatible with IDE. For IDE, you must plug into an IDE port, you can't plug to a SATA port. But the good thing is, you don't need any driver for SATA.
    You must go for PCIe card as these boards only support PCIe.

  • [915 Series] SATA, IDE and the 915G.

    Hello all,
    I have an enquiry and did a peruse through the manual to no avail, so I am turning my enquiry over to you all.
    Is the 915G Combo motherboard capable of running two Hard Disks via IDE connections AND two or more SATA Hard Disks at the same time?
    Regards,

    According to the MSI product page, you should be able to connect up to 6 PATA (IDE) and 4 SATA together. I see no reason why you should not be able to use all of them at once.

  • [915 Series] CPU Voltage and clock multiplier

    The manueal of 915G combo says(page  3-24):
    Adjust CPU Voltage
    The settings are used to adjust the CPU clock multiplier(ratio) and CPU core voltage....
    I dont know how, and you?
    Can anyone explain that to me, please.
    cheers

    If the value has a "v" or "X.XX", it'll be the value for setting the CPU voltage as Mutiplier settings only comes in full numeric value like 1, 2, 3, 4... 20 etc.
    My guess of why it is being phrased as such is mainly to due the different settings to o/c a system may require a minor increase of the CPU Voltage to keep the whole system to run stablely.

  • [915 Series] sata II and DDR2 higher than pc4200...2 questions.

    Can i put sata2 on my MSI 915 G COMBO ?
    What's the differenc betwin pc4200 (533) and pc4300 (533)? Looks like the 4300 is a ddr 538!???
    If i try a memory higher than PC4200(533) on the same MB(915g) it will reconize it as a 533 or 400?
    cheers

    It might run it at 533, but as the natural FSB for that board is 800, the probable (and desired) result is it will run at 400, leaving lot's of room for overclocking at a 1:1 ratio.

  • [915 Series] I love MSI, but...

    Hi,
     I am MSI motherboard fan. I recently upgraded my pc from Athlon XP 2600 with MSI KT4 Ultra FISR to Pentium 4 520 2.8Ghz Prescott with MSI 915 GM-FR.
    From the day I bought it, I have these problems :
    1. The CPU heatsink makes LOOOUD noise (around 4500 rpm) whenever I restart the pc and it slows down eventually when I reach desktop and will be absolutely silent (2250 rpm). This problem doesnt occur when AC is turned ON in the room. In the BIOS, the SMARTFAN temperature is set at 70C with 5 degreee tolerance. The CPU temperature generally will be around 58C. The problem is, on every restart heatsink fan makes LOOOUD noise. Can this be controlled ?
    2. I dont find the FSB Adjustment option in the CPU Frequency and Voltage Page in the BIOS. The manual says it has the option, but I dont find it !! The motherboard is of MSI CoreCell technology which means it has Overclocking support. But I dont even find the option. I even updated the bios to the latest version using MSI Live Update.
    3. The powersupply (SMPS) I use is Antec SmartPower 400W (ATX 20Pin). By using a 24Pin SMPS, does the CPU temerature come down ?
    4. When I use MSI PC Alert 4, I get constant siren in the CPU Voltage +12V column. The voltage is being reported as 1.74V which should be around 12V.
    5. Whenever I access "Spread Spectrum" Option in the BIOS, the BIOS hangs ! No keystroke works. When I click "Spread Spectrum" Option it should display "enabled, disabled" options but the dialog box contains nothing and it simply hangs :(
    6. Recently, my computer didnt even start after pressing the power button. No LED glew, no fan rotated. After observing carrefully, I found a scratch near the PCI Express 16x slot. Then I used a pencil and drew on it. Voila ! The computer started ! When I remove the pencil markings over the scratch, again the computer doesnt start.
    7. After few hours of usage, the onboard LAN stops off. I have to restart the computer to make internet working again :(
    Any ideas or solutions for these problems ?
    Thank You !

    Thank u eastbay for replying.
    My isp administrator changed the existing cable to a new cable. From now, the LAN is not stopping off
    The problem started on the day when I was playing UT 2004 on my 6600GT card and had my system restart for 4-5 times. From then, I am having consistent graphics artifacting. I even changed the powersupply to Antec SmartPower 400W, still I have the problem. I use the latest BIOS and the latest nVidia drivers 71.89. Can a faulty motherboard be a cause for graphics artifacting ? This artifacting happens only on 3d games which use Opengl or direct3d and not with software rendering.

    Temperatures are less than 70C on load.
    Getting a Pci express motherboard board in my city is a hard task. That is why, I couldnt test the graphics card on another computer.

  • [915 Series] How do I enable the IDE raid Slots (the yellow ones)

    On the Bios there is an option to enable the onboard raid slots, but whem I
    enable it, noting happens, and in the next restart, this item doen't show in
    the bios menu.
    I read on the forum that this problem appened to other owners of this
    motherboard, but I couldn't find any solution.
    I've already installed the Via IDE Raid Drivers in "»Windows install »F6."
    When I tried to install the upgrade of this drivers form the Drives&
    utilities CD, a message apeard saying that it could't find the hardware, so I
    installed them anyway from a floppy disk in "»Windows install »F6."
    I have connected to the blue IDE slot one IDE drive and one DVD drive, and
    in the second slot(yellow), another IDE drive.I've tried to exange the drive
    positions but the drives on the raid slots where never recognized.
    I know from the forums that others have solved this problem, so I think this
    is not a mainboard mailfunction.
    Please someone help me in this issue.
    Thank you.

    Tanks everyone
    I also tried that procedure but I thik i have a problem in Bios or in the motherboard.
    When I enable The raid controler in Bios this Item just disapears form the options, next time I restart.
    Strange, no?
    No mater I took the computer to the shop where I bought the Moterboard and monday, I hope I have good News.

  • [915 Series] Overclocked by it self

    i have Msi 915 neo2 Platinum (7028) and Installed on it 3ghz prescott and it reads it 3040hz and 209 FSB and i didn`t enabled any Overclock Function So why is that and i have another Problem with Sound while i working or playing it makes my pc hlat for sec and make strange sound.any thoughts
    Sorry for my bad english

    MSI and other board manufacturers run their FSB at slightly over spec (perhaps to look good when being benchmarked?). This level of 'overclock' is not really overclocking, but if you would be happier with a 'closer to spec' value, try setting your FSB to 201.

  • [915 Series] Core Center bug?

    I just put my new DDR2 mem into my MSI 915g combo and Core Center still shows the DDR1 voltages!
    It start at 2.6 but the default value to DDR2 is much lower than that.
    Can someone confirm if is this happening to everyone?
    cheers

    Speedfan is alright...
    When you open the left wing of Core Center, what do you see?
    FSB, Vcore, Memory Voltage, NB Voltage.
    Now, the Menory Voltage can't be seted to less than 2.5v. This is DDR1 voltages!
    I'm using CC 2.0.0.7.
