920 yellow camera tint / hue

This issue is driving me insane. It appeared with Amber / GDR2.
I thought it was only with the Pro Cam app, but it extends to every single other camera app (tried ProShot, OneShot, 6tag, everything) out there, including the default WP8 camera - it's more easily noticeable on Pro Cam though.
You take a picture (try taking a picture of any silver or grey object, doesn't matter the lighting, it's the best color to notice the tint) and it's perfect. Two seconds later, the post-processing kicks in and results in a very yellow tinted, blurry picture. I thought it was the viewer on Pro Cam, so I transfered it to my PC and it's not. It's really awful, because you see, as soon as you take the shot, a very sharp, very nice coloured picture just to see it being destroyed by horrible post processing two seconds after.
I've been searching similar cases on the internet and I found a great number of people with the same problem, specially on reddit and Windows Phone centered blogs.
Any ideas how to bypass the auto post processing? I tried every single setting on Pro Cam and default camera and the result is the same.
Examples I gathered around:
As soon as you take the picture it looks like this

A second later it's turned into this mess. It's not just the quickviewer. The file turns exactly like this.

I understand you! i have the same problem. This is so frustating cause i got my lumia 920 just because of the ''camera'' , and now having this problem, well .. it's driving me insane!!. Nokia Must do something about it and soon!.. it is ridiculous to wait too much waiting for this problem to be fixed..being nokia known as ''camera cellphones'' , it is the only reason to get a lumia instead of ios andriod.

  • Lumia 920 front camera lens distortion (not dust)

    Hi community,
Have a next issue - all pictures/video from front camera are distorted on top (I can see that upper edge of camera is just covered by glass curve - so the effect I'm getting is quite annoying). I've seen couple of videos on youtube made by 920 front camera - everything is OK there. Please see attached couple of images. Is anybody else having this issue?

It was physical defect (so have no idea how your reset would help solving it) Got replacement from my carrier. Glass is flat this time - no curves on edges. So no "lens" distortion effect. Please see photos of the front camera and gorilla glass before and after replacement.

  • 920 yellow/brown areas of the screen top and a pat...

    Hi Everyone
I have a problem and have seen it elsewhere on the net, but my screen has a yellow/brown area in the centre of the screen visible against a white or light coloured back ground, it also has the same along the top left corner.
The phone is on 8.1 you can see the area on web sites like bing news or the BBC and when using the camera, so it is I think an issues with the screen itself.
Any ideas or should I take this otherwise super thing to the fixers

Your best option is to have the device looked at by the nokia care facility as there is multiple reasons and scenarios to this issue each one different.

  • White iPhone 4: "Warm" Yellow LCD Tint - Any owners out there with "blue" tint?

    Hey,
I just picked up a white GSM iPhone 4 the other day and, upon comparing it to my black GSM iPhone 4 (purchased in June), I noticed that the white iPhone 4's LCD is noticably (and I would say drastically) yellower or "warmer" than that of the black iPhone.  I would say the black iPhone's LCD is noticably whiter, bluer, brighter or "cooler" than that of the white iPhone.  I definitely prefer the cooler blue LCD to the warmer yellow; the color seems to pop more and whites actually look white, whereas the yellow looks dim and washed out.
Just curious if any other white iPhone owners received units with the blue tint or if they are all yellow.  All the pictures in online hands-on reviews of the white unit seemed to have the yellow tint.  I've also heard (on iLounge as well as other speculation) that the yellow tint was/is present on the black CMDA iPhones as well and that the yellow is simply a new panel manufacturer that Apple is now sourcing from and that there's nothing that can be done about it - all new phone will have the yellow tint.  Hopefully that's not the case.
So, if anyone out there has the cooler LCD on a white unit, please let me know, as if they exist I would love to visit the Apple store to swap mine out for one.  The tint is hard to notice unless you have two units side by side, one yellow, one blue.  Even a 3GS side by side with a white 4 shows the disparity.
    Thanks.

i had the same yellow tint and the problem is very easy to solve , first i cant understand why apple are so useless when it comes to its ios firmware options , so many iphones have been returned to apple because of this problem and a simple tint adjuster would solve this problem .
ok onto how to solve this problem .
first you need to do something apple hate and always block with every upgrade , jailbreaking
simply jailbreak any iphone ( a temporary messure if you do not want this on your phone )
as soon as your iphone is jailbroken install " color profiles "
when you open this option you see colour temperature , adjust it to the tint you like from very warm to very cold ( blueish tone ) as soon as you have the correct tone you like you can then uninstall the jailbreak by reseting the iphone firmware ,
when your iphone has finished restoring you will see the tone you chose is still there and you can finally enjoy your iphone as you want to
why cant apple include this option in the brightness settings is a mystery or plain dumb , apart from letting users set the tone correctly for thier use it would save apple 1000's with all the returns to the apple store.
if an apple ios firmware developer is reading this then try and knock some sense into the apple's firmware dev team , hopefully before the ipad 3 comes out ( as they are bound to screw that one up tone wise again )
i myself find it a joke and poor on apples side to have to jailbreak my iphone to get the screen to display the correct screen tone .
i hope this helps anyone who is having the same too warm tint to solve the problem as it works , no thanks to apple YET

  • LCD replacement to fix yellow tinge/tint...

Got a call Friday from Apple Executive Relations saying the fix is ready and to make a Genius bar appt to have my lcd panel replaced.
Did so today and was told it would take a few days, which is fine.
The interesting thing is the Genius told me it was a "one time" deal... meaning they would replace the panel once and only once as the yellow "tint" was a subjective thing...
Anyway, should only be a few days.

I would go back to the Apple Store, get the name of the tech who informed you that it's normal for these displays to give out a yellow tint. I would also ask for the managers name and then contact Apple Customer relations.
I know first hand that it's not normal. As I stated in a previous post that I had my display replaced and the yellow tint was GONE. If it wasn't for their damage on the LCD panel, dust behind the screen and scratches on the aluminum, I would have kept it!
The Yellow tint/tinge is not normal operating conditions. No way, no how. If that was the case, Apple would have not gone as far as "informally" addressing it with a new part number to address the issue.
Don't let a tech or retail rep make you feel as you need to settle. Personally I would get a refund... then purchase a brand spanking new one and start the process all over again.
When paying a premium for a 27in MAC, you expect quality. I visited a local retailer and was curious to view a 27 in monitor sold by HP. Although it's older technology, let me tell you... White, was white! No yellow tinge, no dust, etc. The monitor sells for 370.00 USD. Here's the URL. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176125 from newegg.com

There wasn't a protective covering that covers the lens, the phone came in a plastic wrap/bag. Also you can't alter the focus settings between center or spot focusing.
I will point out though that due to the location of the camera on the back, our sweaty palms will come into contact with the camera quite often so it's important to make sure it's clean before taking pictures.

  • Nokia 1020 Flash gives Yellow Tint - White Balance...

I have the new Nokia Lumia 1020.  Unfortunately, every time I take a photo with the flash, it gives a yellow tint; the white balance is WAY off.  I called support and Nokia Support said to swap the phone, which I did at AT&T.  The 2nd phone has the same issue.  I searched online, and several others are having the same problem.
When will a solution for this come out, assuming one will?
    Thanks.

yep suffering from this too and there are quite a few threads popping up on the net about the issue too

these are just the top hits on google and this is without the threads on your wn discussion board on this very website :-/
now i love my 1020 just like i loved my nokia 808 but there is defo something wrong with the settings and jpeg processing on the 1020
on one of the forums i use a users examined the exif data of a yellow tinted image and the shutter speed was really slow and the iso really high , i think this is where the problem lies , on an xenon flash shot why is the phone choosing a very high iso and very slow shutter speed surely this will lead to polloution of the picture from other light sources hence the orange/yellow glow/tint to many pictures taken under ''fake'' lighting
In auto mode even with flash on, shutter speed is always 1/30 and ISO is pretty high (1000 or above). I don't know why these settings are this way with flash in Auto, but that seems to be the reason for the yellow tint.
a user has come up with a fix which is
Try this: force flash on and then either set ISO to 400 or a fixed shutter speed of 1/100 or even faster. I noticed that the flash fires shorter and brighter that way. Surprise: yellow tint is gone.
so as you can see the camera is simply selecting the wrong settings for the scene , why an earth is the camera selecting such a high iso and slow shutter speed for an xenon lit shot , surely thats ridiculous , it seems it to me
nokia please can you look into this asap
according to your response in this thread you have been aware of this for a while now and i know software can be very complex but this is something that needs to be fixed and is causing a lot of people hassle with the ''best camera phone'' the world has seen
i am sure it can be fixed easily via software and i look forwards to an update or resapinse from nokia about the issue

  • Nokia 920 Camera - Unfocused and over-exposed phot...

I've been so let down with the camera on this phone.  Every photo taken appears out of focus and the white balance is WAY off making skin tones bleech white.  I've compared it to my old iphone 4s and the sharpness and color correctness blows my 920 away.
Is there any chance this can actually be fixed or will the lack of focus/sharpness continue to be an issue.  I only have two days left to return the phone if I dont like it and the main reason I bought it was for the camera and WM8.

You can tweak your exposure value to fix most of that problem but applying post-process sharpening is about the only way to improve the softness... unfortunately that is a bandaid. You can't really put fine detail back in to a picture after the fact. Some folks have reported better results after changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 but that claim is mostly unsubstantiated as far as I can tell.

I talked yesterday with Nokia care about images being not sharp on Lumia 920, and they told me that it is the first time thay get rapport about that issue? Very strange.
That sounds like standard support-line nonsense. The Lumia 920 camera issues are pretty well known and there have even been comments made by a Nokia rep that they are working on fixing the problem (clearly implying that Nokia is aware of the issue). The general census is that it is probably an issue with the compression/filtering the camera uses at the software level (so it should be relatively easy to fix through an update). Take a look at the fairly well lit shots in the first few articles that come up on Google... obvious issues.

    http://www.slashgear.com/nokia-lumia-920-pureview-camera-hands-on-vs-iphone-5-05255660/
You can certainly cherry pick best-case scenario shots from the Lumia 920 and say those look great (and everything is dandy because of it) but its the direct comparisons (apples to apples) that tell the real story. You can clearly see in med-high light situations the Lumia 920 consistently underperforms (compared to the iPhone 5 in particular... the camera on the 8x isn't really a selling point for that phone)..
"Nokia France’s Xavier des Horts responded to a tweet about this supposed issue, which described images taken with plenty of lighting as too smooth, or soft-looking. Des Horts only replied briefly, but did note that Nokia would work to make adjustments to the 920′s camera to address this issue."

  • Huge differences in screen colour / yellow tint

    Hi,
after using a 16GB Touchpad I recently received a 32GB version. From the beginning on I noticed a huge difference in the screen colour of the two pads. While I would consider the 16GB version neutral, the 32GB version has a much more yellow / orange tint. I noticed this even without putting the two pads side to side. Doing so results even in a much more obvious difference.
Are there explanations for this? Or even better: solutions? Any chance to adjust the colour temperature so that I could try to achieve a better colour balance on the 32GB pad?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Thank you very much for your reply. Interesting to hear, as it is discussed in some forums (e.g. precentral.net) whether HP used screens from different manufacturers.
As I explained the difference between my two devices is pretty obvious. I guess I will figure out how complicated a replacement might get due to the firesale implications.
    Best regards!

  • Lumia 920 Front facing camera blury, exaggerated s...

    Hi,
I'm trying to understand if my frontfacing camera has a defect or it really is supposed to be that bad on a 920. I started noticing the images are always sort of blurry even though i try to hold it extremely still and that the colors are kind of bad.
What really put me over the edge was seeing my wife's iphone's result side by side. hers was crisp, clear, beautiful while mine looked like it was from a first generation digital camera.
Is this expected? has anyone else compared iphone 5 and 920 FF camera results side by side?
    thanks

    adrianhughes wrote:
    Hi Amakhan,
Traditionally front facing cameras have not had much technical focus as most people use the back facing cameras to take photos. However, with the advent of the Facebook-photogenic generation, there has been a sharp rise in the use of front facing cameras for impromptu poses.
Now, there are differneces in the hardware between the phones you have listed. For one, the Nokia 920 only has a 1.3MP front camera, while the HTC 8X has a 2MP snapper (which HTC claim is even better with their proprietary imaging technology). Obviously, photos are going to look better on the HTC as they have obviously focussed effort on their cameras. The same case could be made for the iPhone, as their adverts always seem to have people making FaceTime calls.
It all depends on your needs, if you find your front facing camera more important than your back facing camera, then by all means the HTC or iPhones are the phones for you. In upcoming firmware updates for the 920, the imaging of the front facing camera may be improved, but complaints about the quality are few and far between.
I sure hope the firmware updates will address this issue. This is my primary request at this time.
I don't think its right to have a dismissive attitude toward wanting a decent front facing camera. Nokia put the camera there, it should take good pictures. Facebook, youtube and myspace have been around for a long time. Many people like to take pictures of themselves. I dont think its wise to write off this segment of the market.
All i'm saying is that the phone has a camera. I'm sure it is able to focus. They just need to use some of the technology they use for the main camera in this one. I dont expect it to be as good, but it needs to be better.
For example, FF cameras are usually used to take pictures of the user -- someone with a face. you can use the algorithm published over a decade ago (http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/viola/Pubs/Detect/violaJones_IJCV.pdf), find the face, and focus on it like even the cheapest point and shoot cameras are doing these days.
The attitude that "this phone is not for that" is exactly why the iphone has done so well. Otherwise, why should we have internet or apps on the phone either -- heck, its for making calls.
It might seem petty, but I was literally in the car with my wife. we were goign to go return her iphone and ger her a lumia. she happened to snap a photo of herself on my camera. it was terrible. we turned around and went home. That's one sale lost. There are lots of poeple that use Facebook and want to take and post photos of themselves. Lets not give up on that market because we dont want to put some software into one of the cameras on the phone known for its camera.
