9205 Installation Issue - Stop running services

Hi,
I am trying to install Patch 9.2.0.5 on Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Before the installation begins I am prompted to stop a long list of services. I try to stop all services but obviously cannot stop them all. I can thus not continue my installation. Has anyone encountered this before or have a solution for it as I cannot proceed with my installation as is.
Kindest Regards,
Will

Actually I have the same problem and I'm currently seeking a solution.
The problem is that OUI lists all the windows services to be stopped (It's insane to ask such thing!!!)
Normally for patching only the client you should stop only the MTS recovery service!!
Anyone knows how to handle this? (Apart from uninstall/reinstall Oracle Client)

  • Installing Patch 9.2.0.5: Weird "Stop Running Services" Screen

    Hi to all.
I found this issue in several places, including this forum, but I never saw a working proposal for a satisfying solution. Installing Oracle Patch 9.2.0.5 over a 9.2.0.1-Installation on XP Pro, I was confronted with a "Stop Running Services" screen, that listed ALL running Windows Services, even the most basic ones, which are required for a working OS and cannot/should not be stopped. Of course I had stopped the Oracle listener and instance services (including the recovery service, omtsreco.exe).
I found using TASKLIST.EXE or LISTDLLS.EXE, that many Oracle DLLs like ORAPLS9.DLL were used by a command "svchost -k netsvcs". But I could not find out, where and for what reason this command is launched and how I can prevent this launching without hazarding the system. The string "netsvcs" can not be found in the registry, for instance.
At least, somehow I managed to do the job, but I cannot exactly recall all the steps I took! At the "Stop Running Services" screen I chose "Abort current component and continue installation", and after install finished (it said something like "install finished with errors" or that like), I was left with a non-functioning Oracle client. Whopee! It told me "Bad function entry point" when I tried to start SQL*Plus. Desperately, I started the patch installation a second time. THIS time I installed OUI 10.1.0.2 as a first step (which I did NOT during the first round), and then started patch install. Strangely, this time I was presented another flow of dialogs (Sorry, but I missed to make notes about the exact titles and the dialog flow), which took MUCH MUCH longer ("Analyzing Dependencies" for example, took 1.5 hours to complete), and I really do not know, how or whether I was confronted with a "Stop Running Services" issue), but after all I really managed to complete the second try successfully, and the client functions worked again (SQL*Plus reported the correct version, 9.2.0.5).
Before I'm driven through this hell again (I have to patch several workstations running 9.2.0.1), I'd like to know,
    - Whether the issue has been solved, that the "Stop Running Services Screen" lists
most basic services like "Event Manager". Could it have been caused by using the
wrong OUI version or under what circumstances will it appear?
    - Secondly, what is this mysterious "svchost -k netsvcs" (netsvcs = NETSerViCeS ?)
locking many of the DLL files in the Oracle "BIN" folder. It is definitely NOT
one of the Oracle listener or instance services (all of which start with "Oracle").
How can this service be disabled or be prevented from loading the Oracle DLLs?
Sorry for the long story and partially unclear details, since I do not recall all of the long installation session. Any input is welcome.
    Werner

Ok, "netsvcs" CAN be found in the registry, but I used FINDSTR.EXE to seach a UNICODE .REG file, and of course had no hits. Meanwhile, I learned more about SVCHOST.EXE and it's service groups, one of which is "netsvcs". In HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost, I found a value and a key named "netsvcs", the value contains this string (abbreviated):
    "6to4
    AppMgmt
    AudioSrv
    Browser
    CryptSvc
    helpsvc
    xmlprov
    wscsvc
    WmdmPmSN".
These are the symbolic names of the services presented to me in the "Stop Running Services" screen! Now it's clear, why this screen appears, since "svchost -k netsvcs" is the process locking the Oracle DLLs.
But the question remains: WHY does "svchost -k netsvcs" need access to Oracle DLLs? Which system or application setting controls whether svchosts tries to load the DLLs?
    Still puzzled. Werner.

  • "windows installer" issue while running Cap 2

    Hi folks,
just re-installed Captivate 2 on a fresh Win XP (SP2) system.
Now everytime I start Captivate and even load a project, first
comes the windows installer telling me "please wait while Windows
configures Captivate 2" -- it does do "domething" and later opens
    Cap 2 respectively a loaded project, but why ? I didn´t have
these issues before, does anyone know what´s up ?

Hi Gunter. I've seen this happen with other applications but
not with Captivate. The problem was that Windows had "confused" the
path to the executable file from a desktop shortcut. Try using
Windows navigator to go directly to the main folder ...
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2\
... and double-click directly on "AdobeCaptivate.EXE" to see
if that opens Captivate without the installer being kicked in.
If it works correctly that way, just right-click the EXE and
create a new shortcut to replace the bad one(s).
Let us know if this helps, and have a great day!!

  • Forms 10g Installation issue on windows 7 Professional service pack 1

    hi
I am trying to install oracle forms 10g  64 bit windows 7 Professional service pack 1 ..
Below are 2 files that i am using ..
    ds_windows_x86_101202_disk1.zip (626,122,752 bytes)
    ds_windows_x86_101202_disk2.zip (236,880,881 bytes)
But it failed but the error is ..
Checking operating system version: must be 4.0, 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2.    Actual 6.1     Failed <<<<
just wondering if there are any workaround ..

Christian is right - Forms 10g R2 (version 10.1.2.0.2) is not certified for installation on Windows 7.  You must apply a Forms 10g R2 patch to bring the version to 10.1.2.3.0 for it to be certified.  You must have a My Oracle Support account to obtain the patch.
Now, to your question - is there a workaround; the answer is yes.  There are known issues with this installer.  I'll list them and their workaround.
    1.  The Oracle installer checks for a specific set of Windows versions rather than check for a minimum Windows version.
Workaround:  Right-click the Installer and select Properties.  Click the Compatibility tab and click the checkbox: Run this program in compatibility mode for:  Windows XP SP3).
    2.  The Oracle Installer can't detect Windows Managed Virtual Memory (VM).
Workaround:  You must temporarily change the Virtual Memory settings and specify specific Initial and Maximum sizes.  See this Microsoft article for more information on changing VM settings.  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory
This change will require you to restart your computer.  After you have successfully installed Oracle Forms 10g, you can restore the original VM settings.
    3.  The Oracle installer MUST be installed as an "Administrator".
Workaround:  Windows 7 uses "Least privileged user" so you must right-click the Installer and select the Compatibility tab.  Click the "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox.
    4.  Not a Oracle installer issue, but you will have to install the 32-bit version of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (1.6.0 - not 1.7.0) because Oracle Forms is a 32-bit application so it will not be able to use the 64-bit JRE.
Run the Oracle installer and it should now install succesfully.

  • Services stop running

Hi. We are on ep5. currently, I noticed the World Wide Web Publishing Service stops running, and so with the IIS admin service. But the SAP J2EE Engine service is still running.
May I know what's the reason the services stop? is there any way to detect when the services stop, alert someone and auto restart? May I know how to do it?
    thanks.

    Hi,
IMHO it's clear that you have an issue with IIS, not J2EE or EP5 itself. You could possible also have an issue with the ISAPI filter (SAPJ2EE / IisProxy) which can cause IIS to crash.
Although it is possible to detect IIS outages and restart automatically if necessary (you could use WMI and a scripting language such as VBScript to accomplish that) I think a better approach is to dig into the root cause of why IIS is crashing (you can to IIS thread dumps as well - don't ask me exactly how) and fix the issue instead of working around it.
    Good luck!

  • Start up and Installation Issues Macbook can't run Mac os X!

I have a Macbook 1.83ghz with 2gb of ram. I upgrade the harddrive as soon as i got it used to 250gb (it was around june). In september i decided to upgrade to leopard. The installation was suscessful. Now here's the problem, at the end of November, the computer starts acting slow, still having 60gb free on each partition ( i bootcamp windows vista and divided the hd in 1/2). I decided to reinstall leopard. Installation success then two weeks before Christmas the computer gave me a repair disk and stopped booting. I repaired disk and volume was ok. I format the partition of mac os x and installation success, i go to welcome screen do the process and after clicking done then the screens stays blue, switches to gray and blue again. I left it on all night and nothing.
I tried the installation again, reformatting and the same thing, each time the welcome screen process went slower and slower. I deleted the wholes hard drive, including windows and still the same. However when i put the vista dvd it installs ok, and runs vista ok. I tried ubuntu and works ok but when I tried to install leopard now the installation fails. I don't know why it doesn't want to install mac but installs vista and ubuntu.
Can anyone help me here? Do i need to send it for repair?

Your friend if he has a disc which says any other Mac model name, or if it was made for the same Mac model on the label, but has a different operating system than shipped with your Mac, it won't work on your Mac.
If he has the full retail with the image I show above, it still is NOT legal for you to use his disc, unless you live in the same physical abode with him, and he is your family, and he has installed it on 4 or less machines, and it is the family license. Otherwise, you must purchase your own copy to stay within the law.
If you purchase your own full retail as I describe above, and you still have trouble erase and installing the operating system after backing up your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
It may mean your machine has a hardware problem.
Second handed discs are of unknown reliability, and should NEVER be used.

  • Systemd service to run command before stopping connman.service?

[This is my first time creating a thread, I apoligize if there is a more suitable category]
    Hello,
I would like to run a command at shutdown before stopping a specific service (connman). I need the command to finish before stopping connman as well.
Is there a good way to do this? I tried searching, but it seems systemd is a bit finnicky when it comes to shutdowns.
I'd like to achieve this without modifying connman.service (Though this would probably work for me)
What is the best way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Jacob

    Hi
I'm not sure if it would work, but from logic, creating a service file for your command with an "After=" dependency to connman might do it. Assuming that systemd passes the dependencies in reverse order when shutting down...
Plus use "ExecStop=" to make your command execute at stopping.
    You gotta try this out.
    Regards
Edit: To test/debug you can probably simply stop connman and see if it pulls the dep (instead of shutting down completely).
Edit2: Maybe better better use "ExecStop=" inside the connman service files. As you mentioned you copy the original service file from /usr/lib/systemd/system to /etc/systemd/system and make your modifications there. This is the correct way to modify service files.
Or then do it with a "config" directory, analog to how it's done here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/au … al_console
    Reference 'man systemd.service':
    ExecStop=
Commands to execute to stop the service started via ExecStart=. This argument takes
multiple command lines, following the same scheme as described for ExecStart= above. Use of
this setting is optional. After the commands configured in this option are run, all
processes remaining for a service are terminated according to the KillMode= setting (see
systemd.kill(5)). If this option is not specified, the process is terminated immediately
when service stop is requested. Specifier and environment variable substitution is
    supported (including $MAINPID, see above).
Evtl. make sure your links in the .wants directory reference to the correct service file. (Disable and reenable once.)

And in addition to what version, how is it hosted, how much RAM have you provisioned for the appliance, ... If you are running the latest version 1.0.1, the more common causes of death are not enough RAM provisioned - so the tomcat process is killed by the out of memory killer ( google "OOM killer" ) or it has run low on disk space and croaks. You can check both of these and post the results along with the details asked for.
At the console ( or via SSH if you have enabled SSH ) login as root and type:
    df -k
    And then
    top -n 1
more important is the top caption with the memory information and the first few processes. You can post the output here, but redact the server name before you post if you want. the tail end of /var/log/messages as well as the end of dmesg output may show the OOM killer kicking in.

  • Installer stops running

I have been trying to install the latest flash player plugin for Firefox but it keeps stopping after the first dialog window.
    OS: Windows 8
    Installer: install_flashplayer16x32_mssa_aaa_aih.exe
When the installer first started, a dialog window asked if I allow it to modify the hard disk. After answering yes, nothing happened afterwards. When I opened up the task manager, I could not find the installer. So it just stopped running.
I have Norton Internet Security running in the background. But I confirmed that it is NOT configured to block the flash installer.
I have not been able to find any discussion on this particular problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.

  • Ios 7.0.2 issue: how to stop running programs

I am a new iPhone5 user and just installed ios 7.0.2 (maybe I should not have but I did). Now I don't know how to stop running programs. Previously
I double-clicked the Home button, then saw the icons that represented running programs, then could lightly touch one of them which led to all of them
showing a X for a potential delete. That does not work now so how do I do it?

Double click the home button and then swipe up on the app screenshots.

  • How does one get officeclicktorun.exe to stop running?

Since installing Outlook 2013 I noticed that officeclicktorun.exe has been consuming the most CPU of any running app.  It takes focus of the machine when I'm in the middle of working on another app which is very annoying.
I understand that it's installed on any machine with an Office 2013 product and automatically set to run.  I can't understand why a simply update program would consume so much CPU.  Is this a known issue?
I found that there is a scheduled task that was set to run automatically. I turned that off and now the program won't run until I run Outlook.  But once I run that, the program takes off and becomes a resource hog.
I went to Office -> Office Account and disabled all updates.  The program still runs like crazy.  I tried disabling the service but then Outlook won't start.  How can I use outlook without an additional app that appears to be a resource
    hog?
I got in the habit of using Outlook and then killing that .exe.  That doesn't work.  The .exe keeps coming back for no known reason.  I can disable the service to get it to stop running again but then I have to re-enable the service if I want
to run Outlook again.  This is crazy!
I can't believe that a simple method of stopping all automated upgrade activity isn't being provided by Microsoft.

    Hi,
Officeclicktorun.exe runs as a service named 'Microsoft Office ClickToRun Service' (ClickToRunSvc). It helps manage resource coordination, background streaming, and system integration of Microsoft Office products.
As far as I know, this service is required to run during the use of any Microsoft Office program, so you cannot just stop it permanently.
It shouldn't consume "that" much CPU. Is your Outlook update to date? Try to update it to the latest version and then verify result. Or you might need to
repair your Office 2013 and see if it's due to an improper installation.
