925XE Neo Platinum-54G - 2nd RMA replacement, board locks up

I would really appreciate any assistance anyone can provide about the problems I'm having with this mobo, I'm ready to toss it. This one is the 3rd RMA replacement; the first one failed within 7 months of purchase and the replacement that MSI sent for that one failed within 3 months after receiving it. The current board locks up my system after boot; the time to lock up is anywhere from 15 seconds to 3 minutes. I have hooked up only bare minimum components to the board to reduce the possibility that it's a compnent issue, but everything else in my system has been working fine. System specs are:
Intel 3.2 ghz single core proc
Geil DDR2 SDRAM 533 (PC2 4300) 3 x 1gig sticks
Sapphire RADEON 7000 64meg PCI video card
Creative Soundlbaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card
Maxtor DiamondMax 200gig SATA drive (3x)
Let me know what other information you might need to help. Thank you to anyone that can help.

Memtest ran for 8 1/2 hours, here is what is hightlighted in red below the test data:
Tst    Pass    Failing Address                 Good                  Bad                  Err-Bits            Count    Chan
6       7       000389a2e74 - 905.1mb      0000000010     0000000050      0000000040              1
I have 3, 1gig sticks of Geil RAM, how do I determine which one has the fault? Could this be the cause of board lock-up?
I can't get to the power supply to see the lable information.

  • 4Gb of RAM in a 925XE Neo Platinum, BIOS report 2.75GB?

    Hi,
I've just replaced a dead motherboard in my PC with an MSI 925XE Neo Platinum (MSI-7053)
I needed new RAM for it (old board had DDR-SDRAM) and as it was cheap and the board supported 4GB, I got 4GB.
But the BIOS only reports 2.75GB of available RAM.
    CPU is an SL7J8.
Can this be fixed with a BIOS update or something? Or am I stuffed?
    Thanks,
    J1M.

A part of your physical memory is being reserved by your BIOS, depending on the installed hardware. What's left is for the OS to add to the virtual address space (physical memory + pagefile), usually no more than 3.25 GB for a 32 bit OS. Decrease your pagefile in size to a couple hundred MB, it might change something and you will barely need it anyway...
If it's available in your BIOS, enable Memory Remapping.

  • [925 Series] msi 925xe neo platinum issue

    dear guys
i have just assembled my pc with the above-mentioned board but noted discrepancies with other 925-based boards when benchmarkings are performed. I understood that the same problem also occured with msi 915-based board but all seem to resolve with a bios update. When benchmarking are done with pc mark 2004, my ram marks only hit somewhere around 4700-4800, and cpu benchmarkings also are a bit low as compared to other boards with sisoft sandra 2005. Is MSI working on that or i just have to accept all this issues?
    thanks in advance
btw, my pc specs: P4 2.8 GHz (FSB 800 HT-enabled), MSI 925xe neo platinum, A-Data DDR II 533 256 MB x2, Seagate 80GBs NCQ HDDs x2 as RAID 0, and Maxtor 80 GB SATA as RAID 0 and Optical drives.

I don't think it's the motherboard fault and its most likely due to the OS and hard drives. I had the same problem when I installed windows 98 and upgraded to windows 2000. I created a slipstreamed windows 2000 CD and installed windows 2000 from scratch and my problems stopped. Originally I was getting scores in 3D Mark 2005 of 4300-4800 and that was the graphics score. After installing windows using the slipstreamed CD I was getting scores of 5600. I think it was a SATA drive issue, which slowed down system and stopped it working as it should. Though you probably have windows xp installed from scratch I thought I would say this anyway as it kind of is relevant even though it's your CPU and RAM you're having trouble with.
You could try changing SATA ports or updating the drivers for the controllers if it's the SATA dirve to blame though I am sure other people will prove me wrong.
Is the CPU showing up at the speed it's supposed to?

  • 935x Neo Platinum 54g

Alright I just got this board and have been having some problems.
Ok here it goes, I know most of you hate core cell, there for dont' use core center.  The problem that I have is when I install this it tells me that my mobo does not support core cell.  Well I know it is suppost to, so I don't really care since I am sure utilties such as speedfan will do just as good of a job.  The real question here is do I need to get this board replaced because I can not even use corecell?  Does it mean that this board is deffective?  Should I RMA it.  Really though that is my only question.  cpu is around 61 c and 66 under load.  Everything is cool except the fan is running at 3650 rpm?  isn't that fast, cuz its loud as hell.  Besides that everything else seems cool, I'm planning on getting a new PSU with more then 17amps on the 12v rail.  So bare with me, on the plus side this system has not crashed slowed down or anything runs like a dream.  Just doensn't work with most of the provided software.
FYI:  I already updated the bios and drivers through the internet so I know they are upto date so please dont tell me to do that since I already did it about a bijillion times.
    cpu specs
    lga775 intel 3.4ghz prescott
    msi neo platinum 925x neo54g
    X800 xt pci express
1 gig of corsair mem 677mhz
    36.7 gig WD raptor
    and a 400watt psu
Anyways let me know if the core cell thing is of something of concern.  Also did anyof you configure speedfan to this new mobo, no one seems to support it yet.  Also i can't find beta drivers for this board which I heard will fix some of the problems let me know about any of your opinions or similar problems.
    Thx
    Dan

I don´t think you have to worrý too much.
It´s a new board and a lot of new technology you´ve got and this new models often comes with some bugs from start which will be fix in nextcomings software and biosversions.
My 865 board started with biosversion 1.0 and now its 2.5, so you can expect a lot of fixes and updates in the future.
Since your system is running fine, there´s no good reason for worries or RMA´s.
Since CoreCell can be a bit buggy, there will probably be a fix for this as well.
Meanwhile, if you still use CC, don´t install / run other alike software at the same time. This could sometimes be confusing.
Don´t know about the speedfan config for the 775 /prescott, but Danny has made a basic config for the 865/875 boards, that you could try.
SpeedFan 4.09/4.11 Configuration for 865/875 Boards
Have you got the latest speedfan version 4.17 ?
    http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
About CPU cooling, you could try some aftermarket cpucooler, such as Zalman
CNPS7000B-Cu or Alcu, which has a good cooling with low noise.
As std. they don´t support the 775 socket but with this clip you can mount it on the 775 socket. - ZM-CS1 This Clip Support allows the installation of CNPS7000 series onto Socket 775.
    Search on: http://www.zalman.co.kr/
There are some more 775 socket cpu coolers, but some of them are noisy with high fan-speed rmp to keep the prescott cpu cool.
    Here´s some other link´s concering prescott cpu thermal issues;

LiveUpdate 3.2 Says its done But on Reboot it restores to v1.3, Also tried Makin Boot disk And Using other Flashing Utils Still No Luck
If Protection is in the Bios Some Guidance to Disable it would be appreciated. The Mobo Says 925XE Neo (Ms-7053 v1) on it between PCI SLots

Boot Sector Protection Under Advanced Bios Features is Disabled(has always been disabled anyway), I even tried it on Enabled just so I can Say I did, But still don't work

  • K8N Neo Platinum RMA and Processor RMA...Still No Post

I recently RMA'd my MSI K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 board after trying all the stickied information at the top.
I received the board and still my system did not post....soooo, I RMA'd the processor (AMD 64 3000+) and got a new one.
I just tried to put my system back together and still no post.
My Video card (Radeon 9800 Pro) and Ram (OCZ 512) test out ok in another computer (not an AMD 64)
I also recently purchased a new 450 Watt Power Supply.
However, when I put everything together, it doesn't post and doesn't beep. The D-Bracket for the record is all Red LEDs, although I've read some threads that say that doesn't necessarily mean the processor is dead/seated incorrectly.
    Help me! Thanks.

Try another keyboard , disconnect jusb1/jusb2 internal connections to case front panel or multicard reader device .
Also try to get the system to post without any hd/opticals connected to ide or sata ports .
After changing/disconnecting things do a cmos reset and try again .
There must be something in your rig preventing post if yo've received a new mobo from rma , and cpu too .

  • 925XE Neo-54G Installation problems

    Hi
I'm new to the system build process and am having problems with the initial build that I hope someone here can help me with
    System spec:
    MSI 925XE Neo 54G motherboard
MSI RX800 PCI Express graphics card
    Intel p4 3.6 GHz processor
    Enermax Noisetaker 2 600W PSU
Corsair Valu Select 1Gb DDR2 PC4200 memory (one simm in DIMM1)
When I switch on the power all of the fans spin up and then slow down again and this cycle continues indefinitely with the power startinga nd then cutting again.
What have done wriong? Is this an incompatibility between something? It makes no difference if the DVD or hard disk opr connected.
    Help! any suggestions?
    Best regards
    Slotraccoon

    Hi Assaf
Thanks for the suggestion - however it hasn't helped. I have tried booting out of the case on a non-conductive surface to no avail. It seems to make no difference if everything or nothing is connected. The power comes on and spins up the fans, etc, and then stops again and repeats over and over. I have changed the PSU so it isn't that. I have tried with all of the fans removed and with the memory and graphics card removed - same result. Does this suggest a faulty motherboard?
    Cheers

  • Update on P6N SLI Platinum issue: 2nd board works nicely

Well I got my new replacement board from the newegg.com Memphis, TN warehouse and this one boots up with no bios error message pertaining to using the wrong processor + only running at 50% of the processor speed. This one recognizes the CPU default speed perfectly. I also had been using the stock Intel heatsink inside my Antec Super LanBoy case (120mm flow through ventilation) with the CPU temps idle at 46 degrees Celsius. I installed the Zalman CNPS9500AT Cooler with Arctic Silver 5 and from below you can see the idle temp now. Averages around 33 degrees Celsius with the case closed up and under my desk. Amazed at how quiet the hole setup is. The fact that the cooler blows into the rear 120mm exhaust fan is a perfect air cooling setup.
Now to RMA the first board back to newegg.com

41C and 44C at idle?  maybe u just got done priming?
Thats the Core temps that seem to run hotter from my understanding, the CPU temp is the first figure (Temp1) shown in SpeedFan at 31C
Quote from: NovJoe on 16-May-07, 14:42:10
    Any side panel inlet fans?
Not yet and don't know that I will at this point as my thinking being under the desk it would only pull in the warm exhaust from the back of the computer.
Quote from: LanceRas on 16-May-07, 15:26:26
Well...   I got my CPU fan flipped around.   Kinda makes a difference....  doooh.
    Orthos going for 1/2 hour...
    Temp1:37C
    Temp2:27C
    Core0:40C
    Core1:40C
    Ambient is around 75 degrees.
    So even better.
One question though....   Your SpeedFan shows HD temps.    I have a Raptor-X 150Gig and 3 Seagate 300 gig drives.   I don't see how I can get temps from them.   Maybe I missed something with SMART?   I didn't think I had to enable anything.
Now that looks nice indeed on air, my Orthos temp1 can get up to 45C. With the stock Cooler I witnessed 63C and quit at that point ...
I don't have anything out of the ordinary setup to see the HD temps.
Quote from: Maesus on 16-May-07, 16:53:13
just a bit worry that your PSU might be overheating due to lack of air to be sucked into the PSU...
Maesus that was the main concern before purchasing this Cooler but after reading lots of reviews with it in the factory recommendation installation I have not noticed it getting hot at all. As a matter of fact its not even that warm. Using the Intel Heatsink the PSU got very warm to the touch.

  • MSI K8N NEO PLATINUM (RAM/HD problem/mobo problem?) [SOLVED]

    my setup:
    windows xp pro sp2
    amd athlon 64 3200+
    msi k8n neo plat - 7030 - bios 2.1
    x800 xt vid
    sound blaster audigy 2
    kingston valueram pc3200 2x512 cas 3-3-3-8
    ps = antec 430 watt truepower power supply (20 A on 12V)
I dont know if you guys remember my but i created a topic on here a while back about how my keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working, well that turned out to be that the msi k8n neo platinum just went bad. So i RMA'd it and recently got the replacement board (with latest bios already installed). It worked completely fine for about a day. Well that same day i got it back, i installed a Logitech G7 USB wireless mouse. after i installed it, i began getting numerous windows stop blue screen errrors, even after i removed the mouse from control panel. So i figured i should format because to rule out everything and start fresh. So i did a FULL format and attempted the reinstall windows again. AFTER the format and BEFORE windows attempted the continue installation, i got the same stop error. I figured now this was a hardware problem. So first i tested RAM. I got the latest version of memtest86 and let it run for 4 hours (11 passes) with NO errors at all. Secondly, i got a western digital hard drive diagnostic program to test for failing hard drive and again no problems with that. I still suspected ram so i tried to boot with only 1 stick installed (in first slot), however the PC didnt boot at all (cleared cmos too). So i moved it to the second slot and cleared cmos again and this time it posted but it just hangs at a cursor and does nothing, same thing happened with third slot. I tried this same procedure clearning cmos each time with the second ram stick and got the SAME results. Shouldnt the motherboard boot with only 1 ram stick installed? Did MSI RMA me another bad board? Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Can you give us what the D-Bracket was showing ie
    R R
    G R
As an example this means "Initializing Keyboard Controller"
You will find this information in the manual page 2-23. (On mine) under Hardware Setup
Also can you please do all your tests with the ps2 keyboard and mouse and for now leave your Logitech G7 USB wireless mouse to one side.
    Russell
for two sticks of ram = RR
                                   GG
for one stick of ram = GR
                                  GG
as for the g7, it hasnt been plugged in at all, i took it out long ago.. as for the ram, the timing was set to 2T, no overclocking, i will try 2.7 v and let you know, but for the record, it has been running at normal voltage settings for about a year perfectly fine.

  • MSI K8N Neo Platinum Nforce3 250GB - PSU?

My sister in law have this board, MSI K8N Neo Platinum nforce3 250gb chipset, recently the power supply sounds noisy and a high frequency sound from the Antec Truepower 380W SP. Had maked an RMA to Antec and they had agreed to replace the 380W psu with SmartPower2.0 450W. But they asked me one question, that im not sure about:
"Make sure that your motherboard does not need the -5V. If you want more information on the power supply you can look at this link: http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=26450 "
So, do Antecs SmartPower 2.0 450W suits this board and what really is -5V for? As I read the manual, it said ATX 20 pin power connector: JWR1 and at pin 18: -5V
So does it mean this board need a psu that gives -5V on ATX 20 pin power connector and thos board can't use with Antecs SP 2.0 450W?

    Quote from: syar2003 on 22-February-06, 05:10:37
    Hi!
The K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030) doesn't use -5v to anything.
So the -5v from the old atx spesification is not needed in your case.
    WoW, thanks for fast reply!
So, it won't be any problem to use Antecs SmartPower 2.0 450W with this board then? Want to make sure about it, before accept Antecs offer for replacement and had spent over 4 days to find the problem with his computer. Really don't want to do it again.
    This is his riggs:
    Antec Sonata
    AMD 64 3000+ S754
    Corsair Value S. PC3200 DDR 512MB
    Maxtor Diamondmax 9 250GB SATA
    Maxtor Diamondmax 9 IDE 160GB
Sapphire Radeon 9550 Atlantis 128MB DDR
    and
Accton ethernet card on PCI slot
    MSI D-Bracket2
    so
With the "new" Antec SmartPower 2.0 450W
Any problem with this rigg and PSU?
    edit:
Dound this post that it said the board do need -5V and now Im confused?

  • K8N Neo Platinum hangs at "Initializing Keyboard Controller" step in POST

    Hi Folks,
    Here is my system:
MSI K8N Neo Platinum (New in box) (no clue on bios version, as I can't access it yet)
    Athlon 64 3200+ 2200Mhz, 640Kb Cache
Thermaltake CL-P0025 Silent Tower CPU Cooler (VERY careful installing this)
    2x512MB Mushkin 991460 EM3200 400Mhz DDR (
    ATI AIW Pro X800XT (AGP)
    OCZ ModStream 450W PS (3.3/28A, 5/45A, 12/26A, 220W/312W)
    WD 74GB Raptor
    Plextor 712A DVD/CD (SATA)
Here is my dilema:  box powers up, POST stops at "Initializing Keyboard Controller". ( I know this because the little lights on the D-bracket tell me so.....:-) I have been on these forums as well as AMD's forums all day now, and have tried everything suggested, except swapping PS.  But I think I have an adequate model.
One by one, I have disconnected any sources of possible problems.  I have reset my bios too many times to count.  I have isolated the MB outside of the case.  I have re-seated everything numerous times.  I changed Bios battery.  I've swapped RAM, and it's positions.  Even took it all off.  I even bought another K8N from Ebay, and have the exact same results.  At no time has the status lights displayed anything different, except for a quick change in color of light number 3 when I do a front-panel reset.  Right now I have nothing but the processor on the board and I still have the same result; POST hanging at "Initializing keyboard controller".  I have swapped keyboards unplugged the keyboard.
I am leaning toward the processor now.  What am I missing?  Should I just do an RMA and be done with it?
       Suggestions encouraged......

    Bowen,
I've got an old Asus P2B that still runs like a champ, although slow by todays standards.  You are right about it being rock solid, I have never had a problem with it, not one.  As a matter of fact I still have it and I use it for my "linux box".  Oops, a little off topic.
Anyway, it looks like MSI received the board today.  I will start the stopwatch and see how long it takes to get a replacement board. I'll keep you guys posted.
    James
Yeah those boards were the best I've seen.  The Intel 865 chipsets are pretty good too.  My previous 845 based mobo was nice as well.  In the past, using VIA boards have been hit and miss with me.  The K8T800/Pro and K8T900/Pro seem to be very stable though...still I would get an nForce 4 chipset over the newest VIA boards.
This is OT but I just received my shiny new BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC card a few days ago and I was very surprised at it's performance.  I was using a crappy Radeon X300 because I needed a temp card until I could buy either a 7800 GTX or the upcoming Radeon X900 XT.  My last system I had a Radeon 9800 Pro and it ran flawlessly.  I only had one problem with that card and it was driver related to only one game.  The game was Call of Duty and that issue was resolved by going down to an older driver, but then ATi corrected the problem with a new driver release.  Anyway as fast as the 7800 GTX is, I hated it!  The reason is that despite it's awesome speed; the only way I can put it, is that it doesn't run games as smooth as Radeon's do.  It was especially bad with Battlefield 2.  This is ironic because BF2 is supposed to be optimized for nVidia cards.
It has a bad stuttering problem with BF2 and allot of people have this issue.  Some have this problem with ATi cards but most are nVidia users.  Even when I set the quality down to the same settings as my 9800P was at, it did the same thing.  Other games like Counter-Strike: Source ran fine unless you had bots.  Heh, even my slow X300 ran games more smoothly (not faster and at a much lower resolution and quality setting but still smoother) than the 7800 GTX.  I sent the card back and I'm getting a full refund.  I'm waiting on ATi to release their X900 XT and I'll buy that.  What's strange is that prior to buying my 9800P two years ago, I had only used nVidia cards since the TnT2.  Well times have changed I guess. Oh well, I guess I had to learn the hard way, but at least this way I know I'm getting the right card!

  • K8n neo platinum restarts or freezes :(

ok, hopefully you guys can help me, you seem to be pretty good at helping poeple on this forum.  i want to say first that i have gone through this forum countless times during my time with this motherboard.  I've searched and read alot on this problem, but i need help diagnosing my computer.  My problem is this.  I've had this computer for a little over a year, and it's ran fine up until about 2 months ago.  I had a problem where i went to turn it on and it started but then shut off after about 4 seconds.  i then had to flip the switch onthe psu for another chance.  Then it worked, and worked for about a month without ever sseeing this happen again in that time.  then recently it happend again only this time it never started up.  eventually it would sometimes turn on and stay on, but wouldn't boot.  i would have to use the psu to turn it off.  i tried then the cmos and battery to no help.  I rma'ed the board and when i recieved the new one i put it in.  Now, my computer works as far as booting and everything. Everyting installed fine as far as os and drivers, games, ect.. Only it restarts or freezes randamly.  I say that cause it doesn't necissarly mean when playing games or intense programs.  it happend while i was typing this 2 times for example.  I've done things like checked temps on cpu which show in the 30s idle.  i've ran virus and spyware programs.  I've flashed bios back to 1.4 which is what i had before and worked fine sept the temps readings, which i didn't mind.  i flashed because i thought maybe 1.7 was my problem. I've also, what's making this hard to tell for me, ran stuff like 3dmark 05 without a crash, or full rounds of games fine.  But other times durijng a game or just a webpage it'll crash.  What i need is help finding the component that is causing this problem.  I'm not sure what tests to use, but will try anything and tell yous results.  I can buy a new piece to replace something, or rma something possibly, but i'd rather not just buy peices without any reason.  Any help would be appreciated greatly.  My build is
    amd athlon 64 3400+
    Ati radeon x800pro

2 things before the list.  1: other lan is in there cause i originally a year ago had trouble using the onboard one and there was a brand new lan card a friend had laying around.  Then recently i was able to use the onboard to connect to net and the lan card to allow my girlfriend to go online through me on her laptop.
    2.  i just noticed in my computer it's showing i have a floppy drive, which i don't, but i suspect this is from the other night the cmos error and it reset my bios i think, so i just have to redue that.

i should say also, if this shows my drivers are not updated, i didn't because i never did before and it worked fine for a year, and i'm one of those that has the motto "if your computer is fine, don't tweak or upgrade stuff, don't touch or do anything"

  • No power on Socket 754 K8N Neo Platinum 7030-010

    Hi, all -
I've stripped the system down to just:
    Neo Platinum part MSI-7030-010
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (Socket 754) - retail, so original AMD HSF
512MB Corsair XMS PC3200 - half of an original 1gb TwinX pair
Dual 74gb WD Raptors in Raid 0, but tested with them detached.
Lite-on DVD burner (I misremember the model), but tested with it detached.
MSI Fx5500 AGP vid card, but tested with it pulled out.
    No overclocking at all.
Standard PS2 Mouse and KB, though I also yanked those and tested with no better results.
This is sitting in a case that came with a QMax 330W psu:
    +3.3 - 28A
    +5 - 35A
    +12 - 16A
    +5VSB - 2A
    -5V - 0.3A
    -12V - 0.8A
    "+5/+3.3 total 200W max"
    "+5/+3.3/+12 total 330W max"
The whole system has been working juuuust fine since last August.
I built the rig for a friend, so here's their story - it suddenly started making a funny noise (thought to be PSU?) and the top of the case (above the PSU) was hot to the touch. Powered down and went to dinner. Later, it will not power up. You push the button, and there's NOTHING. No clicks, no temporary fan whirs, nothing. You could hear a pin drop.
I tested the PSU as far as starting it up, and it does start, but I don't have the equipment to test it for voltages. I tested the mobo as far as shorting out the power switch jumper with a screwdriver, and NOTHING. I also plugged in another psu that I had sitting around, with the same results.  I was able to get the 2nd PSU to start while still plugged into the mobo, and the "D-Link 2" LEDs start at 4 red, and stay at 4 red.
My biggest clue is that manually shorting the power switch jumper on the mobo does nothing. I have entered an RMA request to MSI, but if anyone else has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
    Thanks!
    Rob

    Thanks for the resource!
Two others I've read claim that I need no more than 300W under full load. I'll have them replace the PSU anyway.
MSI approved the mobo RMA, though, and I just disassembled the machine. Turns out that the stock AMD HSF - the one that came with the CPU - which I attached with the heatsink goo that came with the CPU - has cemented itself to the CPU. I "gently" pried the hsf out of the socket and it took the CPU with it!
I can't get the CPU off of the heatsink without some serious work.
Has anyone run into THAT one before?

  • An old subject rears its ugly head - Neo Platinum + 6800 + Sata = no 3D. Help?

I've been battling this issue for almost three months now. All of my problems started when I upgraded my hard drive to a Maxtor 6L250SO 250GB 16MB Sata hard drive. Coincidentally, only two days before I had upgraded my video card from an MSI RX9800Pro TD128 (which I never had trouble with) to an Nvidia 6800GT. For those two days that I ran the 6800GT on my old Pata hard drive, I was able to run 3D apps, although they seemed stuttery. As I said, I upgraded to the Sata hard drive, and had actually RMA-ed the old PAta hard drive, as SMART warned of failure. The point is that the Sata drive is the boot drive. Sadly, it wasn't until after I bought these nice upgrades that I learned of this forum and all of the compatibility issues with the NF3, sata drives, and the 6800.
So three weeks ago, unable to figure out why I couldn't run 3D apps, I rma-ed my K8N Neo Platinum. I received the replacement yesterday, and have spent the good part of 12 hours or so since then trying to make things work again. But it turns out I am right back to where I started before I rma-ed my mb - none of my 3D apps run for more than a few minutes. They all crash to desktop. I have read the stickies here extensively (not meaning to say that I've read it all or I know it all), but I am at a loss as to how to fix my problem.
    my specs:
    A64 3700+ Claw - no OC
MSI K8N Neo Platinum - bios 1.7, Nvidia 5.11 chipset drivers
    2GB Crucial PC3200 DDR400 - no OC
eVGA 6800GT 256MB AGP - no OC, no FW, 81.95 drivers
Maxtor 250GB Sata 16MB (boot drive on sata port 3)
    NEC DVD-RW & Asus CD-R on IDE1
    Creative Audigy2 Value
One thing I haven't tried is moving the OS to an Pata hard drive (the one I got back from rma). Is it possible that booting from a non-Pata drive will fix the problem?
Is there anyone out there that can help me fix my problem or am I just screwed? Sadly it seems as though the only solution would be to get away from the NF3 chipset but I'm tired of throwing good money after bad. Please help if you think you can. Thanks.

Today I tried the rivatuner tweak found here:
    Nvidia Forums
This didn't seem to solve the problem.
    Then I tried this:
    uninstall GART driver ONLY!
    restart
    download this driver pack
    Guru3D
install the new GART DRIVER ONLY!
    reboot
    download this
    PCI Latency Tool
DO NOT PLAY WITH THIS YOU CAN HURT YOUR COMPUTER WITH THIS.
install and change the latency on your 6800GT card to 64 aply and save (dont for get to set it up for load on startup)
    reboot
now try your DirectX 9 games with this setup
    also turn "ON" Fast Writes
This seemed to help some, but only in that I was able to play Doom3 for about 15 minutes, a record. It did not crash, I just ended the game, so i can't consider this extensive testing by any means.
The thing thaty really bothers me in all of this is that my problem seems to be more severe than everyone else's, at least from what I've read. Everyone complains about the "stuttering problem" with the NF3-250 & 6800 combo. My problem is that all of my 3D games crash (either freeze, CTD, bsod, or reboot my pc). Playing Doom3 today w/o crashing was a first since I got my 6800. That's not much consolation for me though, as my main game is BF2. Now in BF2, I can play the game for 5 or 10 minutes, but then the game screen freezes, and the game sounds get mangled and play in a loop. At that point I can't do anything with the pc but reboot.
So since it seems like I won't be able to fix the problem with my current hardware, I'm considering trying a different motherboard. I was thinking that I'd want to move away from the NF3-250 Nvidia chipset, but my hardware requirements limit the chioces drastically, and I don't want to buy a lemon. So my question is, if I were to stay with the NF3-250 chipset, is there any one board that stands out as being the least likely to have these issues? My buddy has a DFI Lanparty Ultra, and he is using a 6800 GT OC and says he has none of these issues. That sounds great, but I've also read that DFI's product support (bios and drivers) is even worse then MSI's and that scares the bejeebies out of me.
