  • Styeles and themes in map builder

Where are the styles and themes created using the map builder tool stored?

    Hi Richard,
For styles, you can definately create them once (in any schema), and use them from any other schema. For instance if you are connected as user A and you want to apply the style 'star' defined in user B, just use the format 'B.star' to reference it.
Themes and base-maps, however, cannot be shared across schemas at the moment. This is mainly to keep things simple. If we allow cross-schema reference of themes & basemaps, you will soon end up with some confusing scenarios.. For instance, imagine this:
MapViewer is connected to db user A, and we want to display a basemap from user B. The base map contains a theme from user C, and another one from user D. The first theme actually relies on a table owned by user E, while the 2nd theme gets its data from a view ownded by user F... pretty soon we no longer knows what is really being displayed on a map.
So my suggestion is to create styles in any place you want, but create themes (and basemaps) in the user that is connected by MapViewer, in this case, your <schema>_WEB account.  Different applications or departments within an organization often want 'personalized' themes/basemaps for the same tables, so storing themes/basemaps closer to the application (instead of their underlying data) is not a bad idea (i hope).
There is unfortunately a bug in Mapviewer that makes it hard to create a theme for a table from a different schema (yea we tried to 'keep it simpler' - bad idea). Currently, the work around is to manually change the user_sdo_themes entry, so that its 'base table' column looks like 'schema.ROADS', and also add an entry in user_sdo_geom_metadata for 'schema.ROADS'. This will be fixed in the MapViewer soon, and also in Map Builder so that when creating a new theme, you can see all the spatial tables across all the schemas you have 'select' previlege.
    thanks

  • Trying to understand capabilities of Flash Professional and Flash Builder 4

I recently purchased the CS5 Master Collection and am struggling to understand the uses for Flash Professional and Flash Builder 4.  I was inspired by Jay Pavlina's Super Mario Crossover game and wish to make similar applications.
However, I am confused about whether I should be using Flash Professional or Flash Builder 4 or both?  I purchased the two books that Jay Pavlina recommended "ActionScript 3.0 Animation Making Things Move!" and "Essential ActionScript 3.0".  I've been trying to find resources that will help me understand exactly the purpose of each of these applications.
It appears to me that ActionScript 3.0 is used in both?  So which one should I be using?  Or both?  Or is one more design oriented and the other more development oriented?  Can one make flash game like Jay's using just one or the other?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought about it a bit more. I think you should take my advice with a grain of salt. I am still standing behind what I said but there are some circumstances that we are not in control of.
If your task is to be the beginning and the end of your code - don't bother with Flash IDE. BUT, if you plan to monetize on your Flash/ActionScript skills, you may not have choice but be familiar with as many environments as possible.
Here is my personal experiense that illustrates this point.
I always prayed to gods, chanted to mandalas and made offerings to spirits to avoid a single thing - not ever deal with custom Flash components. Rightly or wrongly I perceive them as one of the lamest Macromedia creations. I am not talking about SWCs but about this thing that you create with preview and all other crap. Above all, it did not (and still doesn't) make much sense to me from functionality standpoint.
Anyway, as, I guess, a karmic retribution, I was dealt this card. I got involved in a project(s) where I was not told that my main task would be to, you are right, write and reverse engineer Flash custom components. If I did not know Flash IDE I would be totally lost. Custom components are so counter-intuitive that only people without programming background can view them as a convenience. Well, it is a convenience if they are written correctly.
The point is that, if you want to make a career out of it, you should gradually get involved with Flash IDE for now. The truth is that there are tons of agencies out there that do not have resources to hire high level developers and they employ "drag n' drop, cut n' paste" individuals. And this is a real market segment. Even well seasoned development houses have to succumb to this reality and cater to such entities.
It is your choice, of course, but I thought it wouldn't be fare to you to be very fascist about pushing my one-sided views.

  • What is the primary difference between Debug and Release build?

I'm coming from the world of VS, where there's a clear distinction between a Release and Debug builds. In Xcode I can't seem to see how two are different and how would I benefit from, say, a Debug build. Can someone explain this for me?

The differences between the Xcode debug and release builds are similar to the differences you'll find on any other system, though the Xcode interface might not present them as obviously. Basically, a debug build preserves all kinds of information that was developed during compilation but is no longer necessary at runtime. The presence or absence of this information (e.g. symbol tables and mappings which provide the original name of each source code variable and the source code line number corresponding to each instruction), becomes increasingly obvious as you use gdb and other debugging tools.
We normally would never want to release a debug version (in the iOS case, of course, it would never be accepted) because the binary is usually much larger and the performance will probably be compromised as well. For example, a typical debug build will have many perfomance optimizations turned off because these can make debugging more difficult. It's also common to enable "assert" statements in a debug version. These will bring the program down rather than giving the user any options or attempting recovery.
For more info specific to Xcode, see [Build Configurations|http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/DeveloperTo ols/Conceptual/XcodeBuildSystem/400-BuildConfigurations/build_configs.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP40002692-SW7] in the +Xcode Build System Guide+. To get into lower level details, refer to the gcc docs, maybe starting with [3.9 Options for Debugging Your Program or GCC|http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Debugging-Options.html]. You might also want to take a look at your Target Build Options for the Debug configuration (Project->Set Active SDK->Use Base SDK and Project->Edit Active Target->Build). There's a one-to-one mapping between many of these settings and the gcc options.

p.s.: Didn't mean to repeat Xnav's points. As usual, I was still editing long after he posted! To clarify one difference: Selecting the Edit Active Target menu item gets you to the same place as double clicking on the icon for the active target in the Targets group of the Groups & Files tree. - R

  • Error installing/previewing 7.0 theme on 9370 with modified theme builder 6.0

I've upgraded a 9330 running 6.0 using a 5.0 theme (custom layout) successfully, but need to get the same theme to export for use on the 9370 running 7.0. Verizon is the carrier... Since the phones share the same resolution the theme should work on the newer device.
Theme builder has been modified according to the unofficial guide. I see the new device and OS versions in the dropdown and modified the theme properties of the custom.properties in /Blackberry6_320x240/.
I can export the 7.0 type ok but not see theme in display options - it shows up in applications. When attempting to directly install from theme builder on the device I get a generic message saying the phone connected does not match the version of the theme.
Is there something I missed in configuration of theme builder? What can I do to get this custom6 theme to work in 7.0? Could it be a Verizon security lock on 3rd party applications? I saw there were *no options* listed and figured security might block it, but I am new to blackberry dev and forgive my ignorance.

  • Nokia series 60 theme builder

Wow this baby really chokes my PC. it bombed it out when i only had media player, aol, and firefox open. Had to press restart button. It then seems really slow when openiong it with no other apps open.
Any one else used this and had any problems?
Im on a 2.25ghz AMD 64 3000+ with windows XP, 480MB ram and 30gb of free space.
i know 480mb is no huge amount, but i can quite happly open 300 dpi images in photoshop and edit away with out it slowing down any where near like this theme builder does!

A perfect example of why the Java promise hasn't been realized (too slow for big apps + the missing true "write once, run everywhere" promise).
Not much you can do, except get more memory (check first that when you run the app, whether you're actually using up more virtual memory than what's the available physical memory) and/or a faster processor.

  • Testing the water on possible Flash Professional and Flash Builder integration

    Hey,
I just wanted to throw this out here instead of the bug area to see if I'm off my rocker or I'm on to something.
Basically one of my major pains is that any application design I do, I do it in Flash Pro and I code in FB. Switching back and forth between apps just to press CTRL + ENTER seems like a) a waste of time and b) a waste of system resources.
So what I'm proposing is having FB integrate with FLA files.
When you create your product you have the option to specify a target FLA (or multiple with a build order) so that when you test your project it will actually build your FLAs in order (in the situation that the final SWF requires others) and you're off to the races.
You could also have the currently associated FLA files have a checkbox next to them which could temporally disable them for a build.
If you still need to make design tweaks later on, it's a mater of opening Flash and doing them, but it would be so slick to be able to have FB render the FLA for you in the same app (no more random CTRL+ENTER in FB anymore!)
As far as where it could go. I think it would work the best if it was just a new tab that could be added to the perspective. Would allow drag+drop of FLA files to it, drag+drop ordering and also have the checkboxes to disable any FLAs from the build.
So there we go, does that sound like a decent workflow?
    Cheers!

    Hi guys,
Have you considered Testing the water on doing your design work in the new Flash Catalyst software http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcatalyst/ for your skins instead of Flash CS4.
You would be able to export directly in the new FXG format and integrate it directly in your FB4 coding.
There is a tremendous productivity potential gain there.
I am planning to abandon eventually completely Flash CS4 for both design  and coding and substitute it eventually by simultaneously working in FB4(coding) and Flash Catalyst(design) with input symbols directly linked to photoshop and illustrator related files.
For those of you who would like to wet their toes  and initiate  a quick dive, Lynda.com has already released, on june 11,  an 1h40 min course on this subject. Here are the details.
    Length: 1 hour
    Online Training Library® exclusive!
    Flash Catalyst Beta Preview
    with: Mordy Golding
Flash Catalyst is a new Adobe application that is currently in beta and available for downloading atlabs.adobe.com, that allows designers to quickly create interactive Flash content and rich internet applications without having to write a single line of code. In Flash Catalyst Beta Preview, Mordy Golding demonstrates a workflow that emphasizes the intuitive nature of the tool, and shows how to achieve results in a short time. Meant to bridge the gap between designers and developers, Flash Catalyst allows the designer to work with familiar applications, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, while automatically generating the necessary code in the background for the developer. Exercise files accompany the course.
    Topics include:
Creating interactive content from Photoshop and Illustrator design compositions
Turning ordinary graphics into functional components like buttons and sliders
Using smooth transitions and animation techniques
Moving content between Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder
    Declarative Graphics
Flex 4 will make good use of FXG, the new graphics interchange format used with the CS4 graphics applications. Flex 4 and Flash Player 10 can together render FXG graphical elements. These include:
    graphics and text primitives
    fills, strokes, gradients, and bitmaps
support for filters, masks, alphas, and blend modes.
FXG graphical elements can be used in Flex 4 in a number of ways. FXG elements can be used within an MXML file or component and can also be saved as an .fxg file format. The CS4 tools will typically export an FXG using the FXG 2008 namespace. Because these files are designed to be shared between graphical applications, you’ll find that they have a stricter format to what’s used in Flex; the Flex compiler will only use the FXG-specific tags. Adobe’s new application, Flash Catalyst, will make it easy to create FXG graphics compatible with Flex 4, which you can then use to complete your application’s user interface and appearance.
New effects have been added to Flex 4 that can also be applied to FXG graphical elements. These new effects will work on both new and old components alike. Standalone effects must now be declared within fx:Declarationstags instead of the body of the application. Once again, Flash Catalyst has additional tools to help make using these effects easier.

I have just bought my daughter a used Curve 9300 and am having trouble setting up email account.  In the set up menu the only option for email takes me straight to the Enterprise option - I think I need personal email set up but I do not know where to find it.
Also have a music download issue.  I have synced it to our itunes and although I spent ages specify which tracks to add (using BB desktop software) and it seems to have added the whole libary!  I then tried to remove it all with no success.  Now seem to have double copies of everything!  How do I remove all the music and start again and get it right.
Can you tell I am an iphone user, this BB stuff is all new to me!!

To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will should have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.

Activate Mass Storage Mode and manage the music that way. From your PC, you will  be able to treat the BB as a USB drive, with all of the capabilities of file management via PC. You can find out how to activate Mass Storage Mode in your device user guide:

This actually concerns me the most. See this:
KB05099 Steps to take before selling or after buying a previously owned BlackBerry smartphone
If the seller did not properly complete all of their steps, then you have little hope of succeeding at anything with this BB. Further, if the device is not unlocked, then it can only be used on it's original carrier. Further still, if the device model is not specifically supported by the mobile network provider you wish to use, then you will have even further challenges getting it to work, with no guarantee of any success whatsoever.
BB's and i-devices are very very different.

  • MMC Between 9300 and 9300i

Hi everyone, I don't know if this can help some of you who faced such problem or not.
I have my old MMC prior to get the 9300i didn't allow me to change the password on the Nokia 9300 and I went back to Nokia Serviec shop and get a new one but still the option, Menu > Memory card > Security > Change password or remove password were in active. they calim that it's a problem with the cards and they promise to get me one as soon as they fix them!
After i got the 9300i with the free MMC that came with the device i tried it with Nokia 9300 and I opened the side
File Manager > Menu > Memory Card.
all the options were inactive. I tried it with the Nokia 9300i, only the " Format Memory Card" option was active. i formatted the Card with 9300i it worked well, it appears on the file manager. Then choose From the File Manager Interface :
Menu > Security > Change Password,
and the I enter a new password for my New MMC.
I tried it again with Nokia 9300 after I assigned a new password, it didn't worked and i couldn't see it in the file manager. I went back to the Service/repair shop with both devices ( 9300 and 9300i ) and after I tried 10 cards - only ONE worked fine with both devices and I replace it with the one that came with the device.
Now I can't get any MMC unless it works fine and appreas on both devices, and i don't whether the two devices can't read the same memory card at the same time or memory cards corrupted.
Backing up Data on MMC from 9300 and restoring these data on 9300i was working very well with me not worrying about the PC Suite Version conflicts or couldn't find .NFB or .NCC files etc.
    Yours

    Gufi,
Check your firmware version ( *#0000#)
If your firmware is v 05.22 then the maximum MMC you can use is 1GB
If your firmware is v 6.27 then you can use a maximum size of 2GB
If you are using v 5.22 then you can get the firmware upgraded at a Nokia service centre

  • Apollo and Flex Builder?

    Hello,
I am wondering what the difference is between AIR (Apollo)
and Flex Builder 2/3. Also, is the Flex Builder application worth
the money, or is it fine to just use the SDK (I have programmed
with ActionScript, Python, and Java before, so I think I will
    understand it).
    Thanks,
    Dylan

Both are same. I am simultaneously using them. For Flex 3.0 separate installations are coming but same license key.

  • Need help understanding MS SQL Server 2008R2 and Report Builder 3.0 and user access / priviledges.

Having Problems with connections and access.  I have spent the last 2 days reading various threads regarding SQL Reporting Services pertaining to access and connections.
First, let me explain what I have done to date.
    1)  I am using Windows 7 - Home Premium.
    2)  I downloaded and installed MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express.  This was successful.
    3)  I downloaded Report Server 3.0 - This was successful.
    4)  In IE, I tried logging onto http://servername/reports, but this failed.  After logging into IE
via ' Run Administrator', I was able to access URL.
Next, I updated the security / trust sites as explained in the
    threads
Next, I went to Folder Setting and added my user name and granted all roles (Browser,
    Content Manager, My
    Reports, Publisher and Report Builder).
    5)  Now, I can log into Http://servername/reports using my normal windows 7 user account.
    6)  Next, I opened Report Builder 3.0.  However, I am having trouble connecting to report
    server.  I tried connecting with
    http://servername/reports, but this failed.
However, If I change URL to http://servername/reportserver, it works.  BUT NOW, I have
    another problem.  When I
execute the RUN button to create report, I get a  permission
error.  "PERMISSION GRANTED TO USER ARE
    INSUFFICIENT FOR  PERFORMING THIS OPERATION".
    7)  Finally, I can not save reports to http://servername/reportserver when I select "Recent
    Site and Servers".  ERROR
MESSAGE:  UNABLE TO OPEN OR SAVE REPORT
    8)  In my Reporting Services Configuration Manager:
    Web URL = http://servername:80/ReportServer
    Report Manager URL = http://servername:80/reports.
What is strange, the Report Manager URL works for IE URL and WEB URL works for
Report Builder connect (Even though it really does not work).
    THREE QUESTIONS:
    1)  What URL should I use to connect in Report Builder.
    2)  How do I update my normal Windows 7 user so I can run reports when I connect to report
    builder.
    3)  How can I save my reports so they are displayed in IE Reporting services.  Note:  I was
    able to save report to
documents folder and import into IE Reporting Services.
    4)  And finally, is it possible to add report builder 3.0 as a tab in my IE Reporting Services.  I
save seen samples of Reporting Services screens where the instructor has Report Builder
    tab.
    Thanks
    Dan

To answer question 1... it should connect through /ReportServer
    http://bretstateham.com/reporting-services-architecture-diagram%E2%80%A6/
