9360 bricked during auto update
This wasn't my weekend! I plugged our 9360 in and was informed an upgrade was available, so like a fool, I thought why not! A better question might have been why fix something that wasn't broken?
At least I was cautious enough to take a few screen captures. so I have an idea of what passed and failed Here is what happened
The desktop application needed an upgrade and the download began
This was follwed by a rsuccessfull restart
My device was connected and Software updates were identified
I was prompted to install the update:
7.1 Bundle 2841 (v7.1.0.1047, Platform 9.6.0.160
It successfully completed:
downloading update
erasing applications
loading system software
The update appeared to go in fine until the
"Wait for device initialization"
At this point I noticed the USB port would disconnect-connect about 15 second apart.
The phone's red indicator led followed this cycle and the screen never did illuminate
This was followed by the message that the software could not connect to my device
I left the software and phone alone for over 2 hours and nothing changed. I then hit retry and after a period of time the same error appeared. I hit retry over 8 cycles with no change. At about 3 hours I concluded there was a problem and canceled the install. I tried reopening the desktop app and got the message the Desktop Software cannot communicate with the device along with some comments about it either rebooting or havinf a dead battery
I remove the battery and sim in various combinations and retried the desktop software with no success.
RECOVERY ATTEMPT
I found the article on loader.exe - bricked phones and managed to stop the cycling of the phone
I noticed that the connection to the device (BlackBerry Device Manager window) appeared to be maintained, and after 6 minutes I initiated the OS restoration of an older version
The load of JVM and system software passed, but at device initialization the same problem occured
I am not sure of the original OS version, the only information I caught is the windows that states
7.1 Bundle 2841 (v7.1.0.1047, Platform 9.6.0.160)
Here is the rest of the details I have
Phone: BlackBerry 9360
Model RDC71UW
IC: 2503A-RDC70UW
Original carrier: SaskTel (Sk, Canada)
Current carrier: Virgin Mobile Canada
The power, PC, and usb cable were all fine during the upgrade. I set the phone down and did not touch it to avoid any fumbles from couch football during the upgrade. The only user activity on the PC other than the BB app was due the screen shots I took.
Is there a process I can follow to resolve this problem?

Rv082 v3 bricked during firmware update
I have an RV082 hardware version V03 that has been in service for about a year. I tried to update the firmware to 4.2.2.08 from 4.1.1.01. All appeared to be going well, then the browser timed out. I waited a while (10 + minutes) and powered down the RV082, then powered it back up.
On boot all lights flashed, then it settled on the LAN link 1, DMZ Mode, internet, and system lights all lit solid green, but the Diag light lites red for 5 seconds, then out for 5 seconds over and over.
I have tried the recovery TFTP procedure (hold reset down while booting, release when Diag light lites, run RV042_1.3.7.2_050727.exe). Booting with the reset button pressed is the same as without. The recovery utility generates an "Login Fail" error in a separate red window after about a minute (with 192.168.1.1 in the address). When I click OK in that it exits the recovery program
I also tried the method of hold reset for 5 seconds during power on then look for firmware update page at http://192.168.1.1. I server not found.
I can Ping 192.168.1.1 and have the computer set to 192.168.1.5. Using an IP scanner I can see the RV082 MAC address and IP address but nothing else.
I scoped out the power supply. It is providing 5.07 VDC both connected to MB and open. Ripple is <.003 Vpp.
The unit is several months out of warranty.
Is there any other procedure for unbricking these units? I have the wherewithall to JTAG but don't see how to do it on this.
The unit has been replaced with a new one, I would just like to get this one back to life as a spare.
Thanks for any help

IPod Touch bricked during iTunes update. Error #14.
I was updating my iPod Touch via iTunes and it got about half way done when I got error #14. I have followed the troubleshooting steps to the best of my ability however there seems to be something slightly odd about the error that I encountered. When I turn my iPod on now (i.e. when I hold the power/sleep button down for a few seconds WITHOUT pressing the home button as well), I see the Apple logo for a few seconds then it goes straight to the image of a USB cord with an arrow going into the iTunes logo. My computer recognizes my iPod as an iPod and iTunes says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I click "Okay".
Then I click "restore" since I have just been instructed to do so.
I click "Restore and Update" at the prompt.
The process makes it through the "Extracting Sofware" step, as well as the "Preparing iPod for restore" step at which point I get the Apple logo back on my iPod.
Then a progress bar appears on my iPod which corresponds to the progress bar on my computer (Windows XP, btw). It says "Restoring iPod software..." on my computer.
The progress bar gets to about 25% on my iPod before I get error 14.
At this point the iPod restarts itself. I see the Apple logo for a few seconds and from there straight to the image of the USB cable with the arrow going into the iTunes logo.
This iPod has never been Jailbroken or anything like that. I was attempting to update it because it wasn't connecting to my home's WiFi network, for God's knows what reason.
In conclusion, Apple's update broke $300 mp3 player. It's a 16 GB model and it's out of warranty so I'm put in the position of bringing it to Apple and paying them more money so that they might -possibly- fix the thing that they just broke.
Needless to say this has soured me on the company just a little bit.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks,
-TrevorThe exact same thing happened to me!! I was able to get the restore to work on another computer with itunes where I had not downloaded the 3.1.1 upgrade. I am at least back to 2.2.1 with nothing on my itouch. Which is better than what I had. At least it turns on now. From the looks of this board, it would seem 3.1.1 upgrade is not ready for prime time!!

Nokia c5-00 bricked during software update
I've brought my nokia c5-00 on 20th jan 2011.
Today I was updating my phone to it's latest version, but the software update failed in mid showing error "connection lost with the device". And from that point phone dosen't starts. When i press the power button i.e the red button used to cut calls, it only vibrates a bit with no light on screen and switches itself off.
I've tried everything to make it work like pressing the call, star and 3 button to hard reset it but it had no effect on it, my phone dosen't even starts for charging.
Then after a failed long effort to restore my phone I decided to take it to the nokia care.
I showed it to the nokia care representative and after examining the phone by pressing the power button she instantly asked me if it's a failed software update by pc. I said yes it's due to failed software update. Then she forwarded it to the technician to repair the phone.
Now comes the shock.....
The technician said that the software update is failed due to a bend in PCB plate and he showed me the PCB. The bend in PCB is something like this
And here are the images of my phone
I want to know how can the PCB plate bend like this if there is not even a scratch on the phone. Nokia care technician had denied warranty due to the bend in the plate. Where lies my fault in this?
I live in meerut and visited two nokia care centers
1- Nokia care, baccha park
Remark- will charge 70% of the original price of the phone and will change the PCB plate.
2- Nokia care, abu lane
Remark- They said the phone can be fixed or cannot be fixed and will charge Rs 1500.
My phone is still under warranty.
What should I do now?/t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/Recovering-from-a-failed-firmware-update/td-p/398147

If i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

IPod "disonncects" during auto update
I just purchased the new 60GB iPod to replace an older 40GB version. I connected the iPod to my computer and selected Automatically Update in iTunes to move my music onto the new iPod. At varying points in the update (I've tried this several times) my iPod will shut down and display the Apple logo. When iPod re-powers up any songs updated from iTunes are gone from the iPod. At one point it did this after updating 200 songs and another time it did this after 3000 songs. I am so frustrated. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Is this a problem with the iPod or with my iTunes?
Thanks so much,
Jason
PS-I should mention that before I posted here I tried all the suggestions on the iPod support page, to no avail. I also tried 3 different USB ports and the same problem occured.Have you tried the troubleshooting steps on this page? Going through these may help. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
Also check/change the USB port you are using in case you are losing power or connection there. -
Sent it out for service, waiting on Motherboard? how long does it take for parts? Highly frustrated, only had the unit a week and now it's out of service for 2 weeks?
Replacement motherboard is coming from Overseas? No stock here in North America?

Follow this : Restoring the BIOS
You have to try many times the combination key trick to work out.

Is it possible to limit what fields can CUP update during Auto-provisioning
I have configured CUP to do Auto-provisioning after all the stages have been approved. However, our client requirement is to not to update some fields in user master e.g: User Valid Start date and End Dates. Is it possible to restrict CUP to update only the required fields and not all fields during auto provisioning process?
Can you please let me know if this possible in CUP?
Thanks
AnandAlpesh,
Currently my User details source is pointing to SAPHR . I have made the valid start date and end date hidden in the request form. However, CUP pulls the info anyway and updates SU01 record during the auto provisioning. I guess hiding the fields may not work.
Please let me know if you have find any solution from your sources.
Thanks

Web Views Still Don't Auto Update in Keynote '08
So much to my disappointment, the web view feature still doesn't auto update in a self-running presentation. The web views still only update when you first open the document, and then not until you close it and re-open it again.
We have a kiosk at our company that shows slides with websites that have information that change during the day. Unfortunately it only shows the website's state as of when the document was opened, but it doesn't update as the presentation runs throughout the day.
Dang!!! I thought they were going to fix this.It looks like this is an "as designed" feature. It updates the web view when the presentation launches, but won't do it each time it cycles through.
Bummer, but oh well. Maybe iLife '09 -
Hello.
I am using Apex 2.2.1 and am trying to get Carl Backstrom's wonderful Auto Updating Report to work.
In the Region Template he is using REGION_STATIC_ID. What is that? How do I supply this value? In Apex 3.x there is a field in which to enter a "Report Id" when creating a report. But in 2.x, I see no such field anywhere.
I went ahead and tried to create a report using his example. I made a copy of the Standard PPR template for Theme 10 (Sand). I then copied his code into my PPR copy. When I run my report, there is no refresh and also I am getting the text "#TOP_PAGINATION#" at the top of the report.
How does one get an Auto Updating report to work in Apex 2.2.1?
Thank you for any help.
ElieHi Carl.
Thanks very much for helping me out.
I've posted my Apex 2.2.1 app onto my workspace on OTN. Of course, this workspace is a 3.0.1 workspace, and so, I see the REGION_ID field in the report region. This field is missing in my 2.2.1 workspace.
Here is the link and credential info you'll need to see my report page.
workspace = play30
username =
password = flowers
The relavent page is page 3 - "Errlog Report".
With respect to the way you're auto updating your report, I have a couple questions.
1) The #REGION_STATIC_ID# and #REGION_ID# values -- are these the same as the region_id obtained via the query:
SELECT region_id
FROM apex_application_page_regions
WHERE application_id = :app_id
AND page_id = :app_page_id
AND region_name = 'Errlog Report';
2) You're using AJAX to auto update a report region, and so, I was expecting to see some reference to the javascript function htmldb_get(). And yet I see you are not calling this function anywhere in the javascript you're using. Perhaps the functions you are using are calling htmldb_get() behind the scenes, I don't know.
We've not upgraded to 3.0.1 because we have so many Apex (2.x) apps being used in production (and this number is increasing as more users see what we've done) that we need to find a suitable time to upgrade without affecting users too much. We read in the Apex install notes that we need to make our database instance unavailable during the upgrade (an hour or so), and so, finding this hour of space is the main hurdle blocking our upgrade to 3.0.1.
Thanks, again, for any help/advice. It is much appreciated.

Auto update stats disabled for a user Database in Sql server
While trying to improve the performance of few queries, we found via execution plan that there were lot of Index/Clustered index seeks. Therefore:
First thing we did, was to check our Re-indexing and update stats job which runs weekly for this user DB ( Around 400 GB in size and is used 24*5). The job was running fine.
Later when we ran SP_Blitz, we came to know that auto-update-stats is disabled for this user DB. We expected this to be a possible cause and change it from false to TRUE(Auto update stats)
Also, per SP_blitz there are user-created statistics for this DB. When ran the query to check how many, we saw around 7K user stats out there.
So my question would be 1) setting the Auto update stats to TRUE would require a reboot or once changed i need to track the performance and 2) Should we consider dropping those user created stats or manually look into them one by one.
How should we proceed on this, please suggest, thanks! There may be good reasons for having auto-stats off, but those cases are not very common. It makes a little more sense to turn if off on table level. An example of the latter is a relatively small table, say < 100000 rows where not many new rows are added,
but the existing rows are being updated frequently. This will trigger autostats, but probably without much benefit.
But if you have a system which is very busy during peak times, you may not want autostats take resources during those hours. But if you turn off autostats, you will need to make sure that stats are updated in some other fashion.
Here is a query that you can use review when your statistics last were updated:
SELECT o.name, s.name, stats_date(o.object_id, s.stats_id) AS lastupdated
FROM sys.objects o
JOIN sys.stats s ON s.object_id = o.object_id
--WHERE s.user_created = 1
ORDER BY lastupdated
7000 user-created statistics sounds a little excessive, but I guess they were added to compensate for the autostats that SQL Server were not permitted to create. I would not recommend dropping these statistics, as SQL Server would spend cycles on recreating
them.
You should not have to restart SQL Server for the Auto-update stats setting to take effect; it takes effect immediately.

my problem is, that i usually used to use auto update with no problems.
but ive been takin my ipod to my friends and trying to use it thru his computer during partys. but it wouldnt work since i hade auto updates on.
so i tried turning it off. and have had trouble with my ipod syncing up with my i tunes library.

IPad 3 bricked after IOS update, will not restore through iTunes
Hi,
I have an iPad 3 wifi/3g model that bricked after an IOS update 7.0.6. The update failed at about 70% (Apple Logo with progress line on screen) and rebooted into recovery mode. I've tried doing a restore through iTunes mulitple times and even looked at jailbreaking it but no luck. It always fails during the update and I have tried muliple computers (Windows and Mac) Different networks (Home/Work) but the issue is still there.
The device won't go into DFU mode and in itunes it shows the serial number as n/a like the iPad has no software on it at all. I've tried everything I can thing of and I've had plenty of experiences recoverying and restoring IOS devices in the past. Tinyumberlla and other utils won't get it out of recovery mode and now iTunes won't even try to load the firmware back on the device, it just fails after extracting software.
I'm thinking its now a hardware issue, does anyone have another solution to try?FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY. -
IE 11 is not blocked during Automatic Update step.
Greetings.
I am experiencing something very strange with our Windows Deployment Servers.
I have WDS 2013 with AIK-8.1 combination server to do our machine deployment. Some of our machines need to have IE11 blocked from installation (for compatability issue). As in case with IE10 before we installed blocker from microsoft and then captured image.
Before capturing it it was tested by runnign auto update and ie 11 is not being installed.
Problem is during deployment during automatic update step (post application) the system picks up and installs ie11.
If I remove it by hand after installation is over and run windows update - it's not installed. If I disable auto-update step in installation - and run them by hand after - it's not installed.
Does anyone else experienced this scenario when blocker doesn't seem to have effect?Hi,
According to FAQ here:
Internet Explorer 11 Blocker Toolkit: Frequently Asked Questions
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/dn449234.aspx
What registry key is being used to disable delivery of Internet Explorer 10?
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\10.0
When the installation is over and about to updating, cancel the update and check the registry key.
A value of 1 turns off the automatic delivery
of Internet Explorer 11 using Automatic Updates and turns off the Express install option.
Not providing a registry key, or using a value of anything other than 1,
lets the user install Internet Explorer 11 through Automatic Updates or a manual update.
