[945 Series] A new cpu for my MB?

While the performance of my P4 3.0 531 has been good, I'm wondering what you all think would be a good upgrade? I would like to keep my 945 Platinum board, but was thinking a new cpu would give me a little more power for games. Does "dual core" even matter when talking about gaming performance? Here in Winnipeg, you can get the P4 3.0 D830 for $400 Canadian dollars, or about $330 U.S. I switched from AMD to Intel 7 months ago because the game I was playing was older(2001), and my AMD didn't want to run it very stable. Now, I'm running newer games and while the difference isn't dramatic, it's enough for me to wonder if there is an Intel CPU out there for $400 bucks or less that would give me a noticeable upgrade over my current P4 3.0 531. As you probably know CPU upgrade is not supported by Toshiba and hardware upgrade is very limited on mobile machines.
Only supported hardware upgrade is RAM and HDD upgrade. These steps can be done without some risk and you can do this on your own.

Deciding on a new CPU for P6N Diamond

Hi all,
I'm looking at upgrading my cpu before moving to vista. I'd like to get a nice extreme edition since this is my dream pc. I'm pretty sure the QX6850 will work with it, but has anyone tried the QX9650? I saw some of the other Yorkfield processors are under testing and will most likely work with the latest bios, except the QX9650. I'd be will to buy the processor and wait for the next bios update, but I'm not sure if the next bios update will add support for that processor.

Sorry for the bad news, but the P6N Diamond will NOT support any Yorkfield processors in the future. Future bios updates will only support Wolfdale processors...not the new quad core series..:( If you want to run a 45nm CPU, you will need to stick with a dual core or update to the 780i or 750i board. Bummer.

Need New CPU

I need to get a new CPU for my computer, was wondering which would be better?
AMD AthlonXP 2600+ with a FSB of 333, 256 cache running at 2.08GHz
-or-
AMD AthlonXP 2600+ with a FSB of 333, 512 cache running at 1.91GHz
Also when buying a retail box CPU, does the fan come installed or do I have to put it on?
I have a KT4 Ultra, 512MB 333 Ram (and one 512 400 Ram, not sure if I can use them both) and a 350w PSU.

The temps are, when I can get into anything to tell me, in the 50C range. I have not had it running long enough to tell you anthing other than that. The thing will just lock up after about 2 minutes of running. This is the same thing it did on the od AMDXP 2000+ before it went south. And I am not sure it really did die. I am now thinking that I will need to look into getting a new motherboard.
AS far as the ram goes, I have always bben running 333 ram. I have a 512 stick of the 333 and one of 400. The 400 is in a static bag not being used at this point since I am not sure if I want to risk using it underclocked with the stability problems I am have running at the recommended settings.

K7N2G-ILSR New CPU Problems

Hey guys having some problems, I got a new CPU for x-mas. xp 2800+. I had a 2400+, First time i booted with new cpu it said in the system properties that it was a 2800+ @ 2.02ghz or whatever. NOW it says...

1.24GHZ
1gb Ram
I think a setting might have gotten changed or something in the bios...its weird. Ty for help

K8N Master C&Q fix for new CPU's when it doesn't work!

Hi dude's,
There are some older K8N Master boards that do not do C&Q properly with new CPU's.
Those boards need a rework.
If your board turns off when selecting Laptop or Minimal power option in Windows energy settings, then you have this problem.
You either RMA the board or when you know how to solder you can do it yourself.
If you solder nicely you won't lose warranty.
(Don't do this if you are not a sodering expert!!!!! then just RMA)
What you need to do is remove Q123 and Q124.
I will attach pictures so you know where they are.
If you don't care about Cool&Quiet, then don't bother.
BIOS 1.21 or later is required before you attempt this!

hello all, I spoke with MSI tech support in the U.S. regarding getting an RMA for my board with this problem and they claim no knowledge of this problem at all. say they never heard of any issue with this board and this problem. they say they will give me an RMA and see if they can "recreate the problem". but this seems strange to me given the talk of people here and getting this resolved by MSI.
any idea why they say they never heard of this? any info I can give them on this to show MSI (in Taiwan) of having known of this issue?

Usually this is because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try again in 20 minutes or so.

Dv7-4060us Caps Lock Blinking - Time for a new CPU?

My computer is a dv7-4060us, about 18 months old. No particular changes from stock or from routine, with the exception that I backed up my data and did a system restore to factory settings about a week before this cropped up.
Symptoms: Press the power button, fan comes on. Screen remains blank, appears to have no power. Caps lock light flashes approximately once every 5 seconds. Numlock does not flash at all.
According to this site it appears that my CPU is bad, but on every site I've found reference to it looks like both Caps Lock and Number lock should be flashing, not just Caps.
Thoughts?
Also, should I have to purchase a new CPU, do I have to stay with the Phenom II N830 that came stock, or can I use any of the ones listed in the troubleshooting manual?

CPU for my computer

so im trying to buy a new cpu that will improve my pc. i currently have a AMD Sempron LE-1200 2.1 GHz for it. i want like around 2.6 GHz or up. I want it to also fit my socket to because ive bought cpu that are good but they end up being not able to fit onto the socket. i have Socket AM2 (940). please help me out.

Thanks for the help! I use the system for some gaming, media "server", burning DVDs, and usenet mostly. But the biggest reason why I want to upgrade is that I run TVersity http://www.tversity.com/home (software to stream any video through an XBox 360 to your home theatre). Because the XBox 360 will only play .wmv files without 3rd party software (TVersity). TVersity requires a powerhouse computer because it converts (on the fly) any video extension to .wmv and streams it out to the XBox 360. If the PC isn't powerful enough the video stutters and the audio skips.

Purchasing a battery from a third party vendor is a high risk proposition. Many such batteries have been found to be substandard.
I suggest that you try and contact Apple and see if you can have one shipped to you.

New licensing for OWB 10g R2 (Paris)

Hi,
Does anyone know how much the new licenses (per DB server CPU) for OWB 10g R2 (Paris) cost?
Is it correct that the features for the modeling of SCD 1 and 2 are not included in the basic "Core ETL Features"?
If I'm using the the SCD 2 features to develop the OWB mappings do I also need to license the "Enterprise ETL" for the production server?
Related to the previous question: for the production DB where I only need the runtime part of the repository is it required to license any options?

Maurice, not sure what to say. If you've been using OWB, then you don't lose any functionality going to the new version, and it will be "free". You simply won't get any of the new functionality (all of the old functionality is included in the "core" features)
However, as I said in the other post, I hope Oracle reconsiders the SCD 1 / 2 / 3 licensing. To me, SCD type 2 are not "enterprise level" functionality - that is base level functionality for ANY data mart or data warehouse. I have no problems with paying for options the other ETL vendors are charging for (data quality comes to mind...), but if we deploy a large DW on a 32 processor box, paying for the Oracle licenses AND an addition $300,000+ for OWB functionality just to simplify SCD type 2, seems WAY overkill. Actually, in our project, we had pretty much settled on Oracle as the RDBMS for our DW, but if OWB is up in the air, we will probably open this up for an RFQ.
