945GT Speedster-A4R unofficial thread

I just wanted to start a thread every one could share information about your 945GT Speedster-A4R.
What CPUs have you tried?
Did you get into any trouble with them?
What memmory are you using?
The CPU Support list seems to be missing for this board, and a lots of other information so please post everything you would like to share about your motherboard.

Just some information for everyone, the 915GM Speedster-FA4 does not have the same socket as  945GT Speedster-A4R.  The 915GM has the so called 479mobile socket, althoug there are 478 pins on the cpu,  the naming system is from Intel.  The 945GT has the socket called 480, it has the same amount of pins as the 479 but they are keyed a little different.  I have been figuring this out for a while there is wery litle information on the web about this and none here on the msi site or on the forum.

  • In search of msi 945gt speedster-a4r (MS-9632) or low power consumption

When and where can I find the msi 945gt speedster-a4r or MS-9632?
Although this board has been announced, appears on the website with specifications, and has been exhibited at tech shows, I can not find it in the USA.     Update:  MSI, itself, did not return any of my calls or email but one of their distributors, ASI, was very nice and said this board would appear in the USA at end of May 2006.      New update:  ASI now says end of April.
I want a system that consumes low power yet will run a controller board in a pci-e slot at x4, 8, or 16,
this MSI board looks like the thing: it runs a core duo yonah type processor and has a pci-e x4 slot.
So far, the 975x boards like Aopen have dual pci-e x16 slots but they appear only to work only with graphics boards.
I want to put a raid controller areca arc-1230 into the slot.  Areca was very responsible and actually tested the 975 boards to find out that they did not work at this time.

I'm afriad that nobody can gives you a definate answer on your question as this concern many factors to say as in production lines, marketing and distribution.

  • 945GT Speedster-A4R virtualization support

    Hello,
Does anyone know if the 945GT Speedster-A4R BIOS supports virtualization (Intel VT-x)?

Quote from: Bas on 16-December-10, 19:48:13
Did you check if it did?
I don't have the board (that is the reason I am asking - I could buy one but I need virtualization to work). I have googled and couldn't find anything for or against it. The BIOS section on the manual does not show anything relating to Vanderpool or Intel VT or VT-x etc. BIOS release notes didn't mention virtualization.
So, that's why I asked the question here.

  • 945GT Speedster-A4R - and USB 3.0 external drive

    Hello
I just got a USB 3.0 external drive, which I wish to connect to the 945GT Speedster-A4R board. However when the external drive is connected, the board will not boot, but hang in the post screen right when initialising memory.
If I connect the external drive after windows log-on, it works fine.
Anything I can do to be able to boot the board with the external USB 3.0 drive already connected ?
    Br.

Thanks for the fast reply !
However I don't see that option in the BIOS.
    I see the following options:
    USB Controller [Enable/Disable]
    USB 2.0 Controller [Enable/Disable]
    USB Keyboard Support [Enable/Disable]
    USB Mouse Support [Enable/Disable]

I have a 945GT Speedster-A4R. I am trying to setup a dual monitor setup. But it is not working. It displays the same monitor on both screens. The monitors are 19 inch KDS with no DVI. The DVI connector on the board has a converter on it. I have setup the video drivers from MSIs website. THe only thing I can find about this is
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/service/faq/faq/esc_faq_pro_detail.php?L_kind=3&UID=624&NA=945GT%20Speedster-A4R
But this does not help me. Am I missing something?

  • MSI 945GT Speedster A4R Audio Output Jack Detection Problem

    Motherboard: 945GT Speedster A4R (609-9632-01S)
    CPU: T2400 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo
    RAM: 2x 1GB Nanya PC5300 DDR2 667MHz
    Hello,
I've been trying to get two new computers running using these Mobile Core 2 Duo motherboards.  I have had 2 of 3 motherboards exhibit the same problem with detecting audio jack activity - when no activity is actually happening.
In the first failure, the board never worked at all.  It never detected that a jack was plugged in.  In this second one, it worked right for about 2 hours, then flashed some messages saying "Audio Jack has been unplugged", and then it has never worked since.
The Realtek Audio configuration tool now indicates no jack is plugged in when I insert a speaker plug into the light green colored jack.  Conversely, the one board of the three that is working correctly highlights this jack in the software app when it detects the plug.
I hate to keep sending these boards back to the seller, but it looks like I have to send another one back.  Are these boards prone to having audio jack problems?  Is there an easy fix for this?  Is it just a connector problem?
    Thanks,
    James

To reproduce the problem, I just have to leave the machine on for an hour or so.  After the driver is installed, a Realtek Audio applet is constantly running, shown in the bottom right corner of the task bar.  This applet automatically pops up a windows when it detects any jack activity.
Unfortunately, it just pops up (rapidly, about five times in a row) detecting random jack unplugging and plugging in, when I'm not even touching the machine and not running anything (Windows idle).  As soon as I acknowledge the event by clicking 'OK', it pops up another window, and another, until it has finally decided that a jack is not present.  Then the sound no longer functions because it thinks no plug is inserted into the analog output jack.
    Thanks,
    James

  • MSI 945GT Speedster will not boot with Authentec Biometric/Fingerprint Reader

Has anybody else seen POST problems with USB devices attached?  My 945GT Speedster-A4R systems will not POST when Authentec AES2501A Fingerprint readers are attached.  I unplug the devices and the systems work fine.  If I plug the devices in while the system is on, they work fine too and the drivers load.
For these sensors to be used properly, as user login devices, they really need to be present during startup.  Plugging them in after startup is not really an option.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    James

First off, I appreciate the responses.  I have some updates, but I still have the problem too...
MSI Tech Support gave me a beta BIOS to try, and it did not fix the problem (v1.2b5).
I have not completely pinned out the USB connectors, but I am only using the USB adapter that came with the motherboard.  I am not using any "front panel" USB ports on the chassis.  This motherboard ships with a 4 port USB adapter that takes up a PCI slot in the chassis.  This adapter cables back to the two yellow USB headers on the motherboard.  I would sincerely hope that MSI correctly matched the pinouts of the USB ports to the pinouts on the motherboard - the connectors are keyed and only go on one way.
I disabled "Boot to Other Devices."  No help.
I also found another USB device that causes the same hang.  I gave my kids Sandisk Sansa c250 MP3 players for Christmas.  When these devices are plugged in hot, they work fine.  If they are plugged in, and we boot or reboot the system, the machines lock up during POST, just like when the Biometric readers are attached.  It is beggining to look like there is some serious USB compatibility issue with this motherboard.  It is also not just one bad board - I have two systems that behave the same way right now.
    Thanks,
    James

  • 945GT Speedster

I see Newegg now has the 945GT in stock.
Has anyone seen a review or know if there are any oc'ing options in the bios?
    Will the bios support Merom?

Quote from: Maesus on 26-May-06, 10:04:08
Core Duo is not yet Merom, but Yonah. Merom should be "Core 2 Duo"?? I'm not yet confirmed.
Right, Yonah is Core Duo and Merom is Core 2 Duo. I've had the Aopen mb for a couple of months with a Yonah. I have an Antec micro case and was thinking about putting a Speedster in it with the Yonah I have or getting a Merom ES. If there are zero oc'ing options then I would more then likely pass and get this MSI board: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=100587 and a Conroe.

  • Boot problems with MSI 945GT Speedster

    Hi
I am experiencing start-up problems with my newly mounted HTPC (Mcubed HFX mini). After pressing the power button the keyboard lights flashes, then the hard drive starts spinning. Then nothing actually is happening. The start-up screen never appears on the monitor (black). In fact I have noticed the opposite, the monitor (using the VGA) seems to receive a signal down instead and shuts off when the power button is pressed (the same phenomenon when starting and shutting off the PC). There are no light's or alarms on this mainboard (that I know). For switching the monitor signal between VGA/DVI/TV out I have tested the keyboards commands, but as I only have the VGA connected I think this also are auto sensing.
I never get to the BIOS start-up. And no, I have not tried to flash or something. Everything is newly mounted.
More information on the same question I posted at this special mcubed forum.
But as this is problem with mainboard I think this is the better forum for this... let's see..
    Regards
    Mathias

good to hear that. Be happy with the board.

  • CPU Support List for MoDT boards

    Hi!
I can't find such info on the site and support staff seems to be too busy to answer me.
Anybody knows full lists of CPUs compatible with the following boards: 945GT Speedster-A4R, 915GM Speedster-FA4?
I'd like to buy a cheap used CPU but I need to know for sure what CPUs are supported.
    Thanks.

Thank you, but actually this is the kind of information that can be found on the site as well. It gives some clue, however is not a CPU compatibility list. Core names are not official and are never mentioned on Intel site. Today, normally CPU compatibility list would include processor #s and required PCB and BIOS revisions.
915GM Speedster-FA4 has been designed for Centrino.
    http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/915GM/index.htm
945GT Speedster-A4R has been designed for  Core Duo (478 pin)
    http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945GT/index.htm
Both of them are old enough, so don't worry about BIOS revisions and other similar things.
    cheers

  • Authentec Biometric/Fingerprint Reader USB Incompatibility

My MSI motherboards (MSI 945GT Speedster A4R) will not complete POST when I have an Authentec AES2501 Fingerprint Reader (Biometric Sensor) installed.  This is a simple USB device.
If the system is already on, and I plug the device in, it works fine and is recognized.
If the system is off, and I plug the device in, and boot it, then it hangs when trying to count the system memory.
I have two systems with these motherboards and they both exhibit this behavior.
Has anybody else seen this type of issue?  Is there a BIOS setting I should try to change?
    Thanks,
    James

i donot have your board, BUT most ALL mobos manufactured today support boot from USB, its a setting in your bios pages somewhere that has to be disabled, look closely in your manual.

  • Speedster 945GT a4r and T7200 (mernom)

    I have just bought a Speedster 945GT board, and a T7200 CPU
Installing went fine, but when I'm turning on the PC it continues to reboot. All I can see i CPU type and the amount of memory (2 GB) then booting again.
The Bios is version 1.0. How can I upgrade the bios? I don't have access to another CPU.
I doubt that I can remove the CPU and boot without one

    Hi
I have just bought 945Gt speedster motherboard and Core 2 duo T5500 processor for that, but the combination does not work. I cannot get any picture from VGA output and nothing seems to work.  ???  When I power up the computer the keyboard light do blink, but after that nothing happens.
Is there anyway to find out which part of the combination (CPU, memory, motherboard) does not work?
Also can anyone tell do I miss the jumpers or something because there is couple of pins near bios that aren't marked or documented anyway?

  • 945GT reboots while posting

I'm having some strange problems with the 945GT board. While booting the post screen appears but instantly (less than 1 sec) the machine reboots. This behavior repeats in a loop. No post beep, nothing, but I can recognize the CPU speed and correct ram amount.
Any ideas of what could cause this??
    All help appreciated!

OK, sorry everyone.  MOAN guide read.
    # CPU brand, model and speed: Intel Core 2 Duo, Merom, 2.3Ghz
    # Motherboard model: MSI 945GT Speedster model MS-9632, Ver.1
    # Memory: Kingston DDR2, 2GB (2 x 1GB modules)
    # Video card: MSI NX7900 T2D256E, with 256Mb DDR3 RAM (PCI express)
    # Hard drives: 4 x 320Gb Western Digital SATA150 (8Mb cache) in RAID 5 array using motherboard ICH7 chip
    # Any other peripheral cards: Creative xFI sound card
    # Operating system and version: MS Windows XP Pro, SP2, all latest updates
    # Power Supply Unit brand and output in watts and DC output (amps): CoolerMaster REAL POWER 550W (model RS-550-ACLY)
So my problem still exists with the machine stopping early in the boot of the XP system, after giving me a POST warning that is too quick to read.  Nothing changed on this system after being away for a few weeks, and returning home.  It worked before, just fine, and now its just not booting properly.  I have not had a chance to do the BIOS flash to 1.4 since I am still hazy on which are the BIOS flash jumpers on the board.  The diagram that came with the motherboard from MSI has only the CLEAR CMOS jumper identified, but not the others, despite them being referenced clearly in the manual.
Thanks for keeping me honest.  Help appreciated.

  • Problems with Windows Vista and Speedster 945GT?

    Hi!
I've been trying to install Windows Vista on my Speedster 945GT-based system for some time now, but I am unable to get it to run stable.
It hangs on random occasions when installing and if one is lucky it's gets thru the install but then it hangs at the desktop in Vista.
I'm using the latest BIOS version out (1.2) and a Core2Duo T7600 CPU.
I have even tried other CPU's to rule out CPU error with the same results. Same goes with different sticks of memory.
Does anyone have a sollution to this problem?
Btw, it works fine when Windows XP is installed.
    Best regards
    Johan

I had similar problems with Vista 32-bit (Ultimate). I got the board with BIOS v1.0, while I also purchased a T7200 Dual 2 Core. This did not work at all. MSI Netherlands was kind enough to flash the BIOS for me with v1.2 so I could get things working. However, I was not too lucky with Vista. Could just get to the boot screen, but then it hung.
BIOS v1.3 did the trick. I have things working now, but the onboard video is a disaster. Windows Update installed new chipset drivers but this did not help. Intel Graphics drivers did also not improve things.
I started with an analog connection to my 1280x1024 Philips 170B2. Worked ok, but could not get the system working in a higher resolution than 1024x768 which is obviously not preferred. At that time, the DVI connector of my monitor was in use by another system, soon to be replaced by this one.
Instead of worrying about the resolution on the analog connection I thought it was time to hook my monitor up via DVI. And then things started to get even worse.
The POST is visible, you can see Windows starting but then there is a black screen. Windows is fully loading, I can hear through the speakers. I can even login, but still no screen.
So I went back to analog VGA and guess what - same issue with analog VGA now!
System works 'fine' in Safe Mode, but even the 640x480 boot option does not help.
My temp solution now is to use my 7600GS, but as the onboard video might be good enough for me (if it works), I would prefer to get things working.
