945P NEO and RAID problems

This is my first time setting up a SATA raid system. Here is how i have the drives set up.
IDE1- LiteOn Combo drive with jumper set to slave
SATA1 - Seagate 80gig HD 300mb/s
SATA2 - Seagate 80gig HD 300mb/s
when i load up the CMOS it shows the LiteOn as the IDE Primary Slave and it shows the HD's as the IDE Third Master and Slave.
Then i go to Integrated Peripherials > SATA Devices Configuration
it wont let me access the Sata Mode; it appears like this
x SATA MODE         [IDE]
and i cant access to change it.
I can change the On-Chip Serial ATA but cannot change the SATA MODE.
My goal is to make a RAID 0 set up with the drives.

No, this board does not support RAID. Only the Platinum boards support RAID. Sorry about that...
Regarding the things claimed by the box, I'm not sure what can you do with it. I think this is MSI mistake, you can approach MSI Support and ask them to give you a reason or this, then you can decide what you need to do next, (going for legal?)
Anyway, this board does not support RAID.

  • K9A2 CF cold boot and RAID problem

    Hi,
I am struggling with my mobo regarding recent cold boot issues and the problem to set up RAID on the SB600 chipset.
    Here's my rig's description:
MSI K9A2 CF rev 2 (I believe because of the red heatsink) with the latest available bios flashed using the forum's tool.
Phenom 9850 BE (stock, never OCed) cooled down with Asetek closed-circuit watercooling.
    2x Radeon 4850 1 Gb crossfire
4 Gigs of RAM (Nandya Technology)
HDD WD velociraptor 150 go, WD black caviar 640 go, 2x WD 1 To green caviar all drives are SATA-2
1 PCI SiI 3512 sata controller for the sata ODD drives (DVD + DVD burner)
    PSU is advent 750 W
OS: Vista 64 bits home premium working with AHCI drivers
So here is the deal: the system has been running fine for about a year.
I recently bought two 1 To HDD to set up a RAID 1 for backup purpose. The goal is to run the velociraptor as system disk (which it is currently) in raid 0+1 jobd (say standalone), the WD 640 go as data disk raid 0+1 jobd (say standalone) and the two 1To as raid one array from the SB600 onboard controller.
So I flashed the bios to make sure I would have the latest raid rom. The flash was performed with the forum's flasher without a problem, followed by a load defaults and a clear CMOS to be on the safe side.
Since then, I have random cold boot problems. I fire it up, all leds and drives are on, but no post and nothing on screen, not to mention no beeps whatsoever. I already checked the connections, mobo condensators... everything looks ok. The system was bought pre-built and was working flawlessly beforehand. I need to power it off manually and restart it once to a few times and then it post and boots to the OS without a problem.
Is there any specific option I should look for in the bios to change that? I assume I might have made a wrong configuration at some point.
Concerning the RAID problem I cannot access the SB600 onboard Fastbuild utility as long as the PCI sata controller is plugged in --> I get the "Not enough space to load PCI rom" error message. Without the PCI card I can access Fastbuild and define arrays without a glitch. But if I disconnect the card, I no longer have optical drives
Does anyone have a clue how to use the SB600 in raid mode along with a PCI sata controller?
Also, when RAID is setup, arrays defined and all HDDs recognized by the bios, is there a way to make Vista load the raid driver without reinstalling from scratch? For now I can use SATA drives in AHCI mode but get a BSOD whenever I try booting from RAID.
I know that's a lot of questions but I could really use some help. I have been roaming the web and could not find anything.
Thanks in advance for your insight.
    Cheers

This is common problem with boot-roms, the BIOS can't handle multiple of them, only 1 if you use raid.
So disable the PCI-Sata bootrom or disable the RAID.
This is a BIOS limitation, nothing you can do about it.
AHCI is a type of RAID also.
What you see is normal, the BIOS doesn't have enough hooks to put a Boot-rom in, and exspecially the RAID MUST need one to function.
Other solution is to use Windows software raid and put the RAID controller in normal-mode.
You won't notice the speed difference anyway as the onboard is a soft-raid as well, but then done in the BIOS, however in both cases it's the CPU that must handle them.

  • K8T Neo - FIS2R (model 6702) SATA and RAID Problems = Hair Loss

    Hi All,
new to the forum, have searched but nothing like my problem exist.
I have a K8T Neo FIS2R M/B and trying to get a single SATA HDD working for my secondary drive. primary is a IDE which works well and I want to leave it.
I have plugged in the SATA HDD into the SER 1 port ( Promise 237 ?)  anyhow the bois at startup or post recognises the drive, but then says soemthing like you have set up raid before F1 for setup F2 to continue to boot.
I have pressed both f1 and F2 at various time, but it appears that it want to turn the single drive into a RAID system, which is not possible with one drive !!....
Anyhow windows XP then boots up and loads a RAID driver and also the promise RAID drivers.  the real problem is that XP sits and waits for the raid which never comes and during startup on XP. it is extremely slow.
Does anyone have any ideas. I am not that computer techy as you can see by the description, but it appears that I cannot get into the RAID bios to turn it off.. I have zapped the bios to try and reset it. basically i am loosing my hair ove this.
if anyone had some step by step instructions how to prevent raid from switching on at the bios and then in XP it would be greatly appreciated
    Jeff

    Hi All,
Sorry for the slow reply, retrieving the box from the bottom of the swimming pool !!!
I set it to SATA as you have indicated Hans, I did check that setting. Thankyou for checking.
Spray, I have tried the P20378 setting as well. You indicate that you need to press F6 when installing the OS. I have WinXP running already on an IDE master and am trying to set the SATA up as a secondary disk drive.
As I indicated above, the machine runs slowly to the point of it being a 486 when I use either promise or Via controllers.
I have since removed the drive and are now having problems with XP on boot up/startup. The thing seems to hang or go slowly when the horizontal bar runs across under the Windows XP logo. I have turned everything off in the bios both Promise and Via.  I am at a loss as to why:
1 it runs slowly with the SATA drive in ( also does not show all the auto loading icons near the clock)
    2. why it hangs when I remove it and turn both SATA controllers off in the bios.
I have a feeling that I may have corrupted part of the registry playing around. Any thoughts... going bald :-)
I really appreciate the feedback so far

  • K9 NEO and RAID

    Hi All,
I have some major problems trying to set up RAID on my K9 Neo V1.0.  Heres my setup:
    K9 Neo 7260 v1.0 (AMD)
    AMI BIOS v02.59
    Windows 7 Professional 64Bit
    nVidia chipset 550 drivers v15.58
1x Segate 1TB HDD (Boot drive)
2x Western Digital RED 2TB (intended for data)
I have the two WD drives set up in RAID1. To do this, I have connected both drives to SATA 1. I have enabled nVidia RAID in the BIOS and enabled it on SATA 1 Primary and Secondary.  I created the array using the RAID menu on boot, with type set to 'Mirror'.
On first boot I can enter the Disk Management utility in Windows 7, and initialise and format the single 2TB HDD that is presented. I now have a single 2TB drive that I can copy data to.
However, on reboot my problems begin. First off, the RAID menu warns that both channel 0 and channel 1 drives are Degraded. If I allow the boot to continue, the new drive is still visible in Windows, but when I attempt to access it Windows asks me to format it.
Now the strange part begins.  I reboot again, and enter the RAID menu.  I select to Rebuild the array.  Nothing appears to happen and I am put back to the RAID array menu.
Now I exit the menu and allow the system to boot again.  This time, my 2TB drive is back and accessible again.  It now appears to be accessible each time I boot, despite the Degraded warning every time.
I have tried to create a software RAID array in Windows 7 using these disks, but I get a semaphore timeout error each time I try.
What am I doing wrong?  Is this arrangement possible on a K9 Neo (I know its a relatively old board now)?  I can't rely on the array as it stands, and there appears to be no other way of setting up RAID on my system.
The actual size of the WD disks is 1.81TB (2,000,396,742,656 bytes).
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

If the problem is what I think, it is because the is no native AHCI support on these older nvidia boards.
It might work if you set up  you 2x 2TB drives as SATA RAID-0(SATA port#0 and SATA port#1), including boot enabled for the array in RAID BIOS.
You can partition a section of the RAID for OS, during Windows install.
Or set up the single 1TB drive as a single drive RAID-0 on SATA port # 0, e.g 64k stripe.
Then have the 2x2TB drives as a second SATA RAID-0 on ports #2 & #3.

  • K8T Neo and Kingmax Problems!!!!

    Hi
    Ok so basically ive got a K8T Neo Series K8T800 with a 64bit 3200+.
When I bought it came with 2x 256 Mb Sticks of PC2700 I think DDR-333.
    Recently I bought 2x 512 sticks of Kingston Kingmax DDR-400 (MPXC22D-38KT3R)
It wont boot at all with them in it, the monitor doesn’t even get a signal.
Ive read the manual countless times and can’t find anything saying its incompatible.
I Have Tried using both sticks by them selves with no difference.
The ram is in slot 1 (I have tried all three just in case I was doing something wrong
I Have tried the Ram in another Computer and it worked great.
The Ram IS on the tested memory list Under Test Reports
If you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Zysen,

You may have Bios Timing issues. Timing in Bios for that RAM is 2.5,4,4,8 or you can set to auto. VDIMM should be auto and you may have to try using sockets 1 and 3 as mine gave issues in sockets 1 and 2.
You may also have to do a Bios reset.

I purchached a 875 board to replace my older 423 P4 board and upgraded to a 2.8c P4.  I had no problems unitll I ran 3D programs like Star Wars Galaxys or Battlefield 1942.  AFter about 20 min, their would suddenly be a flurry of HD activity and then either I would get booted back to the desktop or the computer would reboot.  After reading the forums I thgouht the problem was my Radeon 9700 PRO.  After trying all suggestions I gave up and Got a MSI FX5900 Ultra.  I now have the same problems with this card!!! :O   The computer runs fine with anything else except when using opengl or Direct3D.  Any suggestions?  I am using Bios 1.6 and the latest MSI/Nvidia drivers.  I have tried changed the timings from Fast to Normal but this did not help.  Any suggestions would be great. I have installed the Intel inf drivers on the Cd for the board and I did flash the bios to 1.6 without a probelm. I love the board and the FX card.  Just this little problem can get annyoing.  It does this with Star wars Galaxys and Battlefeild 1942.  I was Going to try Freelancer and Unreal Tourneyment 2003 and see what happens.

Any ideas?  Maybe this is something new on XP I am unaware of. I never had a problem changing IRQ's with 98
Windows XP is using ACPI (to be enabled or disabled in BIOS). You must also set it when installing Win. XP. During the start of the installation (the screen that says press F2 for system restore ect.....) you must press one of the F keys, I don't know for sure but I believe it was F6. Then a screen pops up and it lets you change the type of computer it'll be, standard PC, ACPI PC etc.... Then you should choose standard PC.
I don't know this for sure, so if anybody can aknowledge my story, you're welcome :D

  • Problem with MSI 865P Neo and G4 Winfast

    Hi all,
I bought the mainboard MSI 865P Neo. Have put it into G4 Winfast A280 LE TDH my vivo. And the problem appeared.
When I doing whatever in Win (for example open explorer, mouse rightclick ...) the screen is simply runing over.
Seems like a video card doesn`t handle it or Screen (monitor) is poor but it`s not. The same problem appears also while Windows is installed.
Little note I want to add is my G4 has new Bios setup and on my second card Leadtek G2 MX everything`s ok. It seems for conflict between the mainboard and my v-card. Have you met similar problem ?
Would be grateful for an answer
    Best regards

On my old mainboard - ABIT ST6R (with G4) everything was ok. I changed mainboard, RAM and P4 and problem has appeared.
MSI supports AGP 8x/4x at 0.8V (AGP 3.0) or 4x at 1.5V (3.3V not supported)
If G4 needs 3.3V (I can't find G4 how much needs) that problem is obvious. I must change mainboard.
Anyone knows how much G4 poverage needs?

  • 875p NEO-LSR SATA RAID problems

Just got a machine build today. Every so often the Intel SATA Raid bios reports one of the drives are missing. (Same drive everytime i think) If I press Ctrl+Alt+Del it shows back up and I can continue booting windows. I have bios v1.6. It seems to happen when I let the machin sit idle for a while then reboot. If I reboot as soon as I get into windows it will not reproduce. It has happened about 4 time now.
    Specs
    P4 3.0c
    Corsaird TwinX LL PC3200 (2x256MB)

    350W Antec PSU
    Aopen CDRW/DVD
    WinXP Pro SP1

    Update.
I tried the drives in my IC7 and the problem went away. I swapped power supplies (used the enermax from my IC7 system) and the problem still occurred. Is there anything else I can try before I request an RMA?

  • MDS9000 (DS-C9124) and Apple XServe/RAID problem.

    Hi all.
Im new at this so be gentle plz. :)
We want to connect some servers and raid with fiber channel-network. So we bought this switch to do the job.
When we connect all together nothing works. Im getting this error: sfpVendorNotSupported
I cant figure out why it doesnt work. If i connect the server with raid it works flawlessly.
    Any help apreciated.
    thx
    p

I have seen that error before and it is generally associated with non Cisco "certified" SFP's. You would get that message when you hovered over the port with the mouse. HP sold us some switches and tried putting in some Brocade SFP's because they had some in stock. Once they put the right ones it, is worked.
There are only a handful of vendor SFP's around for servers and storage and you should not try to use them in the Cisco switches.
Where did your SFP's come from? If they came with the switch, thats another story.

cause when i read the manual, the IEEE and IDE port are written optional in the motherboard map
maybe msi didnt put it in or something else, still i really wanna use it if it was there
is there a way to put em back? cause i really wanna use the pins for my firewire bracket and my extra ide hard disk i have.....

    Hi Dallasourora and others,
I am finding this problem to be more and more insidious.
It was bad enough that the box says PLATINUM and we didnt get our IDE ports, but it also says that it supports SATA RAID. I have now found out for sure that it does not!
The ICH7 Chip does not support RAID! Additionally it does not appear to support NCQ either.
It takes the ICH7R to get the raid function.
I have spent hours and hours trying to install a RAID only to find this motherboard does not support it.
This appears to be one of the worst motherboard purchases I have ever made. The advertising ploy that MSI is using here would be like putting a 12" monochrome monitor in a box labeled 42" Plasma display. I am appalled.
I have written to MSI, but I am not holding my breath for a resolution. Looks like I'm out a few hundred bucks for nothing.
I see we are not the only ones puzzled by the labeling on the box.

  • 945P Neo - Where have my IDEs gone ????

    Hi all
Have just bought a 945P Neo which I was really pleased about but when I set about installing the bits and pieces, I noticed that it only has 1 IDE connector ??
The space where IDE 2 and 3 should be are vacant as are the 2 chips just above them.
Can anyone explain why this is the case ? Have I somehow bought a scaled down or 'demo' version or something.  It's most unusual just to have the one IDE connector and as you can imagine I am now stuck for somewhere to connect my second DVD Rom drive.
Can the IDE 2 and 3 ports be added easily and failing that, what is the maximum number of devices that can be connected to just the IDE 1 connector ?
    Thanks in advance.

  • MSI 945P Neo-F - PC doesn't boot

    Hey,
my PC worked for about 1 1/2 years, but a few days ago suddenly it didn't boot - the screen was black and the PC made some beep sounds (1x long, 2x short -> video card defect). I installed the D-Bracket and it says, that there is a problem with the floppy device (but i have NOT a floppy device). I did the C-MOS reset -> nothing changed. I changed the RAM sticks -> nothing changed. I unplugged all devices (but video card, CPU, RAM, PSU) -> nothing changed. What shall I do now? (I have no other video card - only AGP, but my board doesn't support AGP)

  • 875 Neo and Audigy 2 annoyance.

I am running 875 Neo and Audigy 2 on Win XP Pro SP1. The Audigy 2 is running on the latest XP driver from Creative. DirectX is 9.0B. Everything works just fine, no crashes or anything. I do have a minor annoyance with the Audigy 2. On rare occasion, I have a thumping sound from my subwoofer, the kind of sound when the soundcard is initializing itself when Win XP Pro is loading. The subwoofer is fine as I have tested it without being connected to the PC. At first, I thought that it was due to the Audigy 2 sharing IRQ with the Intel RAID controller. I have shifted the Audigy 2 so that it only uses an IRQ without sharing but the same annoyance persists.
