945P Platinum IDE 2 & IDE 3 works in PIO MODE?

Hello there, I just Bought MSI 945P Platinum M/B and Intel Pentium 4 D @2,8Ghz with 1Ghz RAM, 80GB SATA2, 4 CDRW drives (PATA) where 2 of them I plug in to IDE1 slot(known as RAID, but i configured it to IDE function in BIOS) and the others are in IDE2 slot. I used winxp with the all M/B driver installed, everything's seems ok in device manager, the problem is when I use nero for burning with multiple recorder activated, the windows then going extremely slow in any response even with the mouse movement that it seems windows is running out of system memory. Then I check the device manager and I found that IDE2 run in PIO Mode, IDE1 run in UDMA Mode2.
It didn't make any changes when I used IDE3 slot, it run in PIO MODE either.
How Can I configured The IDE2 & IDE3 to works in DMA mode? I've try any combination in BIOS Setup... it didn't work??
HELP, any advice would be appreciated THX...

PCI Bus Mastering already enabled since the 1st time I configured the bios, I'm using 2 pieces thermaltake IDE round Cable that plugged in to IDE 2 & 3, IDE 1 using cable that came with the board. I'm using 4 LiteOn PATA Writers and Seagate 80Gb SATA2 HDD plugged in SATA1 port.
1st configuration, 2 writers are in IDE 1 & the others are in IDE 2
2nd configuration, 2 writers are in IDE 1 & the others are in IDE 3
3rd configuration, 2 writers are in IDE 2 & the others are in IDE 3
All above configuration make the same result, IDE 2 & 3 Won't run in DMA mode
I've try to switch the thermaltake cable to IDE1 and it's work fine (DMA still on).
It doesn' t matter how I configured the BIOS (SATA to combine, enhanced, or AUTO) IDE2&3 still in PIO Mode.

  • DMA and PIO mode?

I Have bought the 845PE MAX2 board, and I have a HUGE question:
Why will it only allow me to run my Hard Drive in PIO mode.  The Hard Drives are both Seagate 80GB Fluid discs, which supports alot more than PIO mode.
The cables are also ATA100+ cables. Still XP with SP1 tells my it runs in PIO mode and no DMA is available for ATA mode.
Is it me that is a problem or....?
Please advise as the transfer speed is extremly poor as any one who have worked in PIO mode will know.

I tried a option to run a VB script to change the DMA status but no luck..

    Regards

    Hello suneel
Sorry to interrupt this discussion but I feel it goes somehow in wrong direction.
If I understand you right you just want to install WXP on your Satellite A300. Am I right about that?
On this forum you can find, I believe, hundreds of threads with precise description how to do this.
What you need is WXP installations CD with integrated SATA driver.
Check please this page . There you can find nice description how to find SATA drivers. At the end you can also find link to guide for "Slipstreaming SATA driver into WinXp boot cd using nLite".
When the WXP is installed just continue with WXp driver installation. If your notebook is WXP supported you can find them on Toshiba download page.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck!

    Read following in a review at Toms Hardware about the Mega PC 651;
"Without a software update, all the IDE devices run in Windows XP only in slow PIO mode. The fast ultra-DMA mode will be available after the update".
Which update do I need or it is possible to see which mode the are running in?

  • 1.2 bios flash works fine on P35 Platinum but still having DMA/PIO trouble on XP

After all the scare stories of the latest bios I thought I should mention that it worked like a charm for me.  I went from default 1.0D to 1.2 using the MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.0 not using any windows or floppy util.
Once flashed I switched-off and unpluged it for a few minutes, then when I turned on I pressed the little reset button next to the battery on the motherboard.   Then I cycled the power a few times till the monitor came to life and asked me to press F1 to reset the clock and stuff.  Works great!
Now the problem I was trying to fix is that I only have IDE drives and although it boots up saying DMA mode 6 when I do something intensive such as launch Quake4 or install SP2 it reverts to PIO mode and renders it unplayable.
Same problem on both XP64 and 2003 32bit.  Linux and Vista64 work great but I wanted an OS for games.  Anyone else solve this problem?

  • PRIMARY IDE not working after flash

    Hi ,
i recently had some freezing and restart problems while using turbo and ultra turbo modes ,as my memory timngs were different i used a setting of CL 2,3,3,5,8
V 2.70 ...it used to run fine till i got some freezes and restarts ...at the moment it now runs normally with the above timings V @ 2.70 ..turbo mode and OC set to private or dusabled in bios ...no freezes...basically have tried most possible options..i now dont OC to anything above private because i use the stock heatsink and no cooling whatsoever...i can use the RAM in TURBO and ULTRA-TURBO modes ...anyway my problem is that LIVE MONITOR-LIVE UPDATE (auto search) was freezing and not detecting my bios version ..it still freezes at "processing" ...so recently i tried a flash through windows...the startup and other utilities show the bios version etc ok as AMI  V2.5 ...the bios flash seemed ok and everything else seems to be working fine ..but now my IDE MASTER doesnt work correctly i have 2 DVD RW drives and two hard drives ....when i connect any two of the drives on the SECONDARY IDE in any combination the system boots ok but when i try to connect all four (two dvd/cd's and two HD ) ..the startup feezes after recognizing the secondary and in fact even one CD drive on the primary ..but then the boot sequence freezes..it doesnt show the second drive..and the D-BRACKET LED's freezes at "initializing floppy drive controller" EVERYTIME and the system will not boot...i have tried a reflash..same story...i cannot get the PRIMARY IDE to work....has it failed ? ....thanks in advance

tried flashing to older version 2.4 that didnt work ...flashed back to version 2.5 ...still wont work ....boot sequence freezes at the same point..wont go beyong detecting one drive on primary ,no problems on secondary.....also the strange thing is that live monitor cannot detect and stops at   "search mainboard bios version " and wont go beyond that ,but working through live update 3 (newest) the bios version is shown...i have been flashing through windows  should i try through DOS/Floppy ?

  • Eclipse IDE not Working

am having difficulty getting my Eclipse IDE to work after updating to Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8.2) yesterday. For whatever reason, my errors and line numbers are not updating properly. The line numbers don't pose much of an issue, but coding without errors is immensely irritating. Restarting my computer didn't yield any results. I've searched around the world wide web, and I've found a few articles with potential solutions (mostly from this site). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any of these solutions to work.
When I check for new updates in eclipse, no updates are found. Restarting my computer has no effect.
Also, I am not running a second monitor; just my standard Mac Book Pro 13' running Eclipse Version: 3.7.2

Eclipse is now at version 4.2.  You probably should get the latest version (Juno)

  • IDE that works?

    Hello!
I'm looking for an IDE that works.....
First I tried Suns Java Studio Mobility..... it was extremely buggy....got exceptions when trying to import......
Then I tried the eclipseME plugin for eclipse..... it was even more buggy......the J2ME categories did'nt show up in Project > Properties....
Do I have to buy Borlands JBuilder ...or is there something free that works....?
    Please help
    /Arnold

I am using Eclipse 3.0 with EclipseME and WTK2.1. It works perfectly fine.
May be u can try to enable the plugin. Try this:
Help -> Software Updates -> Manage Configuration
On the toolbar of the pop-up window, click on "Show Disable Features". If EclipseMe shows up on the left panel, click the check box to enable it.
    Hope this helps.

  • I'am new at Java world, so please suggest me an IDE to work on .......

    hi everybody !
This is my first post . I'am new in Java world, so please suggest me an IDE to work on ....... there are many IDE: Jbuilder, Jdevelopper, jRun, Sun Studio ... and then I don't know wich one is better (easer to use and to create good user interfaces), I'am designing a networking application surveying servers, hosts, routers ...and managing sms (sent to and received from Administrator).
The OS is Suse Linux Professsional, the DBSM is Oracle 10g .
I wait for your answers and thanks for your time

For a beginner JCreator is a nice but I think it is only for Windows.
For linux support have a a look at:
    Netbeans:
If you are looking for GUI design features NetBeans 5.0 (hasn't been released yet, but you can download a beta version - release due in December) has a probably the best GUI designer. I would wait till the release version if I were your. It is also a solid IDE, but consumes a quite a bit of memory. Don't even consider this option unless you have 380MB+ RAM
    www.netbeans.org
    or
    Eclipse
Very popular, uses less memory than NetBeans, but doesn't come with a GUI designer. Nice for editing code, but don't expect many fancy wizards.
www.eclipse.org. You can get away with about 256MB RAM.
If you intend to run Oracle 10g on the same system as these tools at the same time you better have a very impressive system, or will end up editor code in a text editor and compiling from the command line.

  • HDs in PIO mode with WinXP

    Hi there,
I hope you might be able to help me with my current issue. From the beginning, my HDs under Windows XP are very slow. 2 of them are flagged as running in PIO mode although they have been set as DMA when available in their IDE properties. The 2 others are running fine under the Ultra DMA 5 Mode. All 4 HDs are the same: Western Digital Caviar Black 1Tb SATA II (32Mb Cache) Dual Processor Internal Hard Drive OEM and working fine under Leopard.
Both OS have been updated up to their last available version. On my first HD (primary IDE), I'm running Leopard and WinXP (NTFS). On my second HD (primary IDE) I'm running only Mac partitions. On my third (secondary IDE), i'm running 3 NTFS partition and one Mac partition and on my last HD (secondary IDE), i'm running 1 FAT and 1 NTFS partition.
I've tried to manually change to "PIO mode" in the HD property then reboot and to change again for "DMA when available" then reboot. But it didn't work.
    Thank you for your help.

I've tried all solutions proposed on this website: http://winhlp.com/node/10. But the problem is still not resolved.
So is there a way to access the "BIOS" of a Mac Pro? I suspect some parameters to be incorrect.
I will also try the solution provided here: http://sniptools.com/vault/getting-back-to-dma-mode-in-windows-xp but I don't think that will solved it.

  • Internal PlexWriter 40/12/40 in PIO mode instead of UltraDMA

My Plextor CD-ROM drive is giving me white hair.
I recently noticed that it is transfering data in the slower PIO Mode, instead of Ultra DMA. When I switched Ultra DMA mode back on from the Device Manager in Windows XP Home Edition, the system tells me all is working fine -- until I insert a CD into the drive.
    Then Windows crashes.
I've tried adding a jumper on the DMA prongs of the drive itself. According to the manual, this enables "Multiword DMA," which Plextor says might be more compatible.
    That didn't work, either.
I've also tried uninstalling the drivers for the secondary IDE controller, and letting Windows XP install new ones. No luck.
The drive works fine in PIO Mode -- no crashes, no coasters -- but it really is supposed to work in Ultra DMA. Plextor Tech support is no help; they're telling me to do exactly what I've done already.
I was hoping someone here might have an idea.
    Here are my system's specs:
Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 1
    Athlon XP 1600 processor
    MSI's K7T266 Pro 2  motherboard (VIA 4-in-1 driver v. 443, BIOS version 3.6)
IBM Deskstar 40 GB hard drive as master device on primary IDE controller (Ultra DMA Mode 5)
Plextor PlexWriter 40/12/40 as master device on secondary IDE controller (PIO Mode, AAAAARRGH)
512 Megs PC2100 DDR RAM (Corsair)
Hercules GeForce 2 Pro video card on AGP 4x slot
Creative Audigy Gamer sound card in PCI slot
US Robotics 56k modem in PCI slot
Promise Ultra 100 IDE controller card in PCI slot
Quantum Fireball 30 GB HDD as master in first controller of Promise card (Ultra DMA enabled)
ASUS DVD as master in second controller of Promise card (Ultra DMA enabled)
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

    Hello, Hansh:
Thanks for the suggestion, but yes, I've already tried that. No luck.
I've even tried to plug in the PlexWriter into a Promise Ultra 100 IDE controlled PCI card, but that didn't do the trick. Although the card reads the PlexWriter in Ultra DMA mode 2, the system crashes when I insert a disk.
To check the integrity of my motherboard's IDE controller, I plugged my ASUS DVD drive into the second port, where the PlexWriter used to be. It worked like a breeze on Ultra DMA mode 5.
That tells me the problem doesn't lie with my MSI board or the VIA drivers, no matter what Plextor says. ...
I hope they'll let me exchange it. It's still under warranty.
Unless someone has a better idea?
    Thanks again!

  • G4 iBook works in Safe Mode, but not in regular mode (stuck on blue screen)

    14" iBook G4 1.2GHz with 1 gig of RAM.
I recently had an issue with this machine in that the image on the screen would freeze but the cursor would be able to move around. This was narrowed down to an issue with the logic board. I wanted something a little more permanent than a shim, so I sent the board in to have it reballed.
After installing the maching back into my iBook, it seemed to work fine until I applied a software update to the machine.
It was then that I got to experience the first of many kernel panics.
Restarting at different times always brought me to the dialog box which states that the machine needed to be restarted in multiple languages.
Running the Apple Hardware Test off my install disks yielded this error code: 2ATI/2/4:113-xxxxx-125
I have no idea what that means. I do know that just before I got the results of the test, the screen changed to all kinds of colors. It was only for a few seconds and then the results (with the error code) were displayed.
Still, not sure what to do next, I tried resetting the PRAM. I also tried resetting the NVRAM.
I also tried booting up into Safe Mode which actually worked. There were no issues with the machine and everything seemed to be working fine.
When I tried to restart the machine in regular mode, I'm taken to the infamous blue screen and the machine just stays there. When I let the machine stay off overnight, it booted up normal, but after applying the software update, the machine was in kernel panic again.
I've tried running fsck, but nothing changes.
I'm still not sure why it seems to work in Safe Mode but not in regular mode.
I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

    Hi,
A couple of the things that are disabled in safe mode are AirPort and non Apple startup items. The easiest thing for you to test is the AirPort card. Shut down and remove the AE card under the keyboard. See if it starts. If it does your AE card is bad. If not, start in safe mode and go to System Preferences>Accounts>youraccount and disable all non Apple startup (LOgin) items by clicking on them and then the minus sign. Restart normally and see if it will start.
