9600Pro ATI and KT6

I just did a clean install of XP-SP1 to my 2500+ KT6 board with an ATI 9600PRO video card. All the bios settings for AGB are default. If I install the 3.8 drivers for my card, the machine locks up, displays wacko colors, corrupt test boxes, ets. Just real bad.  If I put in the 3.4 drivers from theCD that came with the card, it works fine. Has anybody else had this, or heard of a fix?
All board drivers had been installed prior to the video driver. VIA4.49.
Matt

yes- i've heard a LOT about it. i own a 9600 pro and spent a considerable amount of time getting it to work. i am running Cat 3.7 drivers. turning off fast writes and the smartgart fix was what solved all my problems. regarding your discovery - the latest indication is that some people have had to go back to 3.2 Catalyst drivers to get there 9600 pro to work with stability. the real acid test is to see if you can play c&c generals or other games. if you want to try the 3.2 driver:

  • White Screen: xf86-video-ati and Compiz After Trying fglrx? [SOLVED]

I have an ATI Radeon X1200 graphics card.  I recently tired the ATI proprietary catalyst driver (and catalyst-utils) from the AUR.  They did not work well for me, so I uninstalled them.  I had run "aticonfig -initial" but, after removing catalyst and catalyst-utils I restored my old xorg.conf.  For some reason, with xf86-video-ati set up again, compiz starts, but goes to a white screen.  I can see and move my cursor.  Everything functions normally, I just can't see anything.  I right clicked my desktop and created folders as a test.  When I rebooted without compiz, the clicks had been received and folders had been created.  How can I fix this?  I'm using Gnome (if that means anything).  Here's my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Fixed It!!  I had to reinstall xorg, mesa, libgl, xf86-video-ati, and ati-dri for some reason.

  • [solved] Radeon/Ati and Xorg 1.9

    Hi,
since I've upgradede my ati driver (xf86-video-ati) and X to X 1.9 I cannot start my X session, because of the following issue:
Failed to map cursor buffer memory
    Fatal server error:
    failed to map pixmap -22
XIO fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server 0:0
In the very beginning after having upgraded, I obtained in addition the error of unknown synaptic devices (mouse and touchpad), but in one of the forum threads it was solved and thus I could fix it.(sry link is missing)
But the one error above is still unsolved, and hinders me starting X. Mr. Google couldn't help enymore.
Downgrading is not possible, because of the missing packages...
I hope one of you can help me get X on the screen.
    best,
    L-K
    [EDIT]
I compiled from git and now xf86-video-ati-git works well. maybe the version in [extra] differs from that git-version in AUR.
    Ty for reading.

The kind people from the IRC channel suggested I add this bit at the very end of the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file (instead of "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf" - tho it would've probably worked that way too):
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us, ro"
    Option "XkbVariant" "std"
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:caps_toggle, grp_led:scroll"
    EndSection
Apparently it works. I just have to hold AltGr and press s, q , a, i, t, etc to type ș â ă î ț etc. But how do I set it to ; { } ] ' ", etc, like the default behaviour in Windows... ? I would like them to correspond to this layout.
Because this is not the "standard" ("std") version...
I may have to edit the "/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ro" file to map them.
    Unless there's a better way ?

  • Driver for nvidia, ati and intel

    Hi,
I have successfully installed archlinux on a usb drive.
It works on every computer  with ati or intel graphics card but when I know want to install the nvidia driver it complains about a dependencie of the ati and intel one.
So I have the choice between nvdia or intel and ati. Is there a way to make the usb stick work on ati, intel and nvidia?
    Regards

archer42 wrote:How does as example ubuntu solve this issue?
They don't. They use nouveau. You can tell the installer to install the nvidia driver from their "restricted" repository, but you do so at the expense of the intel and ati drivers, just like in Arch.
There's one thing... if you don't care about 3d acceleration, you can simply force-uninstall libgl, intel-dri, ati-dri. Then you can have nvdia, intel and ati at the same time. But 3d accel will only work on nvidia, of course.
Gentoo is (I think) the only one with a full solution - their eselect mechanism. Their mesa and nvidia-drivers ebuilds install GL libs in different places, so they don't conflict. Then eselect switches around some symlinks and plays with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. You still have to manually use eselect ("eselect opengl set nvidia" or "eselect opengl set xorg-x11"), but at least you can have all packages installed at the same time.

  • My laptop become blue screen after windows logo, after i update the graphic ati and intel driver

I have constant blue screen after windows logo and i have updated all drivers. i was upset the blue screen didn't go away and i did the factory reset. For my suprise, it didn't solve the problem and then i repair it at the comp shop. it was installed with windows 7 home premium 64 (pavilion g4 1006tx) bit as the pre installed windows and activated with the key back on sticker. I updated all drivers and i noticed every time i update the ati and intel driver it will go blue screen after windows logo. after i uninstall it at in safe mode it can load normally. My question is there any solution for my graphic card or is it already damaged? or any other hardware problem? please because i have to use high graphic as i use photoshop

    hii

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X - Canadian ATI and Privacy Act Redaction Code Sets

    Hi,
Could anyone tell me if there are any redaction code sets for the Canadian ATI and Privacy Acts, like the U.S. FOIA and U.S. Pricacy Act code sets?
    Thank you.
    D.

    Hi Dominic ,
Please be informed that by default Acrobat supports the following two redaction code sets .
    1.U.S.FOIA
    2.U.S.Privacy Act .

  • FX5500 and KT6

Hi, i have problems with this configuration, FX5500 and KT6, when i install the nvidia drivers, i can't see the video properties because the screen flash and when i try to play somehting the system crash and reboot, when the system star again a message appears and say something about Display Drivers ERROR nv4_disp.dll.
    Thanks...

A64 3400+ will kill any Dual Channel K7 mobo.
Hell, the A64 3700+ will stomp, but it only uses single channel RAM as well.
Soooooo, whats the point, save up for an A64, you can transfer all your goodies straight into the A64 mobo, even generic PC3200 RAM.
Plus, with Dual Channel, ya really do have to buy Twin packages of RAM.
A64 is the way, damn, i was even saving up to get one, but oh well, just start saving again!!!!!!!!

  • ATI and blackscreen death...

    community,
    I have a HD4250 IGP (R620) w/ athlon 2 x4.
Yesterday, before turning off the pc I've pacmaned Syu, thus making my system inoperable today. I'm using proprietary catalyst drivers, the latest I could find.
Symptoms are : black screen, no keyboard. When I've added acpi=off while doing a manual boot from grub, I've got a screen with dmesg's and a keyboard-unresponsive box.
I'm not able to edit any of the configuration files as of right now, I don't have an optical drive to run a livecd. I've also tried to create an arch-usb to run live, but to no success. I've tried to access the partition w/ windows 7, but the darn thing doesnt recognize ext2/ext3 even though I have the proper tools installed... (when it comes to writing things. reading was easy w/ diskinternals or whatnot....)
Thus, I'm stuck with win7. Help?

I have the exact same problem, new Arch system working for 8 days, now X wont start.
I've booted to init 3, and if I manually type startx all I get is a black screen with a single underscore, keyboard does
not respond, neither does ctrl-alt_F1.   I cant kill X server with ctrl-alt-backspace so have to reboot.
In my case Xorg.log is empty but posting from another linux system I have found this in /var/log/messages

I am using ATI HD5770 with proprietary catalyst driver which I have tried reinstalling and
    running
    aticonfig --initial
This has not fixed the problem.
In addition I boot with grub legacy and watch kernel messages scroll. I used to get
four "Arch" symbols, now I see four "penguins representing each core.
    Other hardware
    Intel i5 750
    ATI HD5770
    Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3
    4G  DDR3
Prior to this blackscreen Arch was running smoothly and although I have started at
console and tried pacman -Syu  I cannot resolve this problem.
I will try open source ATI drivers next,  see if this helps.
( To mods I hope I have not hijacked piotroxp' s  post if so please move this post).

I don't think the warnings do you any harm. It could be that you did hit freedesktop bug 6689 or freedesktop bug 6624. For bug 6689 there is a mesa patch in the bug report (not sure if it is not yet included in the repo version of mesa).
Though I wouldn't mind that much because the only thing the patch does is not show the warnings.

  • ATI and TVout plus games problems

    Hi,
So I really hate ATI by now but since switching to nvidia ain't and option atm I might as well ask for user input on couple of problems:
1st: Tvout, I guess to get working tvout i must use fglrx? Tvout works as clone atm but is it possible to get same extended desktop and videos playing in fullscreen tv-overlay as in windows? or atleast how to change the clone-tv-out resolution? any working configs would be appreciated.
2nd: While fglrx seems to have better fps than opensource ones, why the hell do games (nexuiz, true-combat, flightgear for one) go from 60+ fps to a crawl as soon as some otherplayer/cpu moves at screen?
    Atleast tremulous works just fine.
Using amd3000 and radeon9600pro with ck kernel and usually resolution off 1680x1050 (although lowering res. doesn't seem to help at all)
    Anyone else experiencing these?
PS. I could just switch to opensource ati drivers and get compiz and play in windows but then I'd still loose tvout rite? (big minus and ATI really sucks)

Well nevermind my ranting, The more i use linux the more angry i get that things ain't up to windows level
    Answering myself:
1st: for tvout must use fglrx or opensource drivers with crappy apps like atitvout or gatos. so basically its fglrx only and even that ain't too shabby.
2nd: No idea, just a crappy driver I think.
3rd: No compiz without xgl and xgl just plain sux (xfreezes, kernel panicks with opengl apps, not possible to spawn another x screen?)
So in short buy nvidia / intel.

  • How to get ati and madwifi to work with custom kernel??

Hi. I just built emission-sources from aur package. How do I get ati-fglrx and madwifi to build against this custom kernel using pacman?
    any ideas?

Cerebral wrote:Grab the PKGBUILD files for ati-fglrx or madwifi from abs (or cvs), change the name (to, say, ati-fglrx-emission and madwifi-emission) and change the kernel version variable (_kernver I think) to the output of uname -r when you're running the emission kernel.  Then run makepkg, and you've got a shiny new package.
    damn. thats sweet and easy.
    thanks.

  • Can the ATI and NVIDIA coexist?

    Hi everyone,
I recently installed a new ATI Radeon 5770 into my 1st gen MacPro 2006. I moved the original Nvidia GeForce 7300GT into slot #3.
I installed Snow Leopard 6.0 into a new upgraded HDD to tests out the new OS X. My other HDDs are still running Tiger and Leopard.
The problem now is that when I plug my monitor into the DVI of the ATI card, I get a black monitor. When I plug the Monitor cord into the Nvidia's DVI output, I get my normal screen.
How can I get my new ATI working?
I planned on using my old Nividia card for my 2nd monitor since the ATI is not equipped with dual DVI outputs.
    What am I missing?

    Hi Grant,
I did notice the possibility of using adapters for the card to support multiple monitors but I don't want to spend more money byuing them. The ATI card already cost a small fortune. I also somewhat failed to notice that the ATI 5770 only supports 10.6.x and up. I have other HDDs running on Tiger and Leopard for testing and software issues. I think I will most likely return this card and opt to find an Nvidia GeForce 8800GT wich may solve all my "issues". We'll what happens.
    Regardless, thanks for "chiming" in.

  • ATI and NVidia Card in MacPro - Setting primary GPU

    Hi
I have a ATI 5870 (offiical, from apple store) in slot 1 and a NVidia GT120 (came with purchase) in slot 2, I want the computer to do the processing with the faster, bigger, better, I-paid-lot-of-money-for-this 5870, but things like Cinema 4D seem to want to use the GT120. I'm no expert on the technical side of thing, I just look at the cinebench and OpenGL info which all say GT120...
Any tips on how to mane the 5870 the "main GPU" card, I commonly use more than 3 displays in the area of work I'm in so would prefer not to have to keep putting in / taking out the card.
    OS X 10.6.8
    Mac Pro 4.1
    8 Core 2.26gHz
    ATI 5870 - Slot 1
    NVidia GT120 - Slot 2
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Thanks,
By defualt my main 2 screen run into the 5870, but when I view the OpenGL info in C4D it shows that the GT120 is doing the GPU work, and there is no sign of the 5870, but when the GT120 is removes it uses the 5870...

  • ATI and multiple cards (Radeon 4850)

I'm looking to set up a triple/quad monitor configuration using my 2 ATI radeon 4850s and arch (64 bit)  I was pleasantly suprised that simply installing the xf86-video-ati driver was sufficient to get 2 of my 4 monitors working with apparently-acceptable 2d and 3d support right out of the box!  Is there any hope, however, of getting my other two monitors working in a similar fashion, or am I stuck with my 2-monitor configuration?  I had a 4 monitor setup under OpenSUSE and the ATI catalyst proprietary driver, but I'm beginning to believe it a lost cause under arch.  Any thoughts or experiences to the contrary?

the open source driver should be working for you, you have probably to create a xorg.conf and specify the "BusID" option in your "device" section. Check this site for an exapmple.
    good luck,

  • ATI and Nvidia cards together?

Is it possible to run an Nvidia card with an ATI card simultaneously? I have a 2007 mac pro with the stock 7300gt. I need another graphics card for a third monitor and would like to purchase the new ATI 3870. Does anyone here have an Nvidia and ATI card running together? Are there any issues? Thanks.

    Hi Ashuta,
With respect, I think you confused it. I replied to dualrecto's question. As I didn't want to assume what he meant, I took the opportunity to answer to it in relation to both OS X and Windows. His question concerned the 7300 and the 3870, not the latter and 8800.
I haven't seen any info that the 8800 and the 3870 could run together in OS X. However, as was written in the Macnn post that I linked to in the second of the two Apple Discussions links you included, the "no-mixing of video card rule" apparently doesn't apply to the newer Mac Pros. Since the ATi 2600 and the nVidia 7300 work simultaneously under OS X perhaps the 8800 and the 3870 will also work under OS X (and saying that, perhaps it will be possible to run also the combo dualrecto is seeking).
Whether you should switch to the 3870: I guess it depends on what you want to use the cards for. The 8800 is superior in 3D rendering provided the application can take advantage of it's OpenGL functions. Which is why it does well as a gaming card. If not, it seems the 3870 is a better bet: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/ATI3870_Mac_PC_review/radeonhd3870review.html.
    Good luck!
