970 Gaming bio update

Just received my 970 Gaming motherboard yesterday to start my build tomorrow. Will need a bio update for an AMD 8370. Do I need to install windows before I update, or, can/should I flash it before the install?
Thanks..

I must have gotten lucky as the latest bios was already on it.
Install went well and booted right up.
I just got my own 970 Gaming a few days ago and was also pleasantly surprised to see it was at 2.22 UEFI...  That seems to indicate the board is selling well--my revered G46-AM3+ has been passed to a relative (the wife--she's thrilled with my hand-me-downs--I'm lucky like that), but when I got that board it had shipped with the 1.1 UEFI version, and went through several more successful updates to finalize at UEFI version 2.6--and so I built a little decently-priced value box for myself with the 970 Gaming.  (New Egg had a sale with it 15% off it's $99 regular price--had to pounce...!)
However, I also noticed that MSI is coming out with a newer version of the 970A Gaming, called the 990GFXA Gaming--it's supposed to include the 990FX chipset (instead of the 970FX as is in the 970 Gaming and the G46 and in the Krait.)  The only difference beyond that that I can see is the on-board USB 3.0/3.1 ports (which the Krait has, too.)  But, I figured if I wanted it I can always buy a cheap PCIe/PCI expansion card for it later and wind up with 6-8 3.1 ports for a piddling sum--MSI is using Type A ports for 3.1 as opposed to Type C, ports--and I much prefer A to C.  Besides, NewEgg had no 990FXA Gaming boards in stock or I'd have probably gone ahead and bought it anyway, probably...
OK, so about that "difference" between the 970 & the 990 chipsets (northbridge.)...I keep reading that the chipsets roughly breakdown in differences as follows:
970    A single PCIe slot @ 16 lanes
990X  Two PCIe slots @ 16 & 8 lanes respectively (8 x8 when used in tandem with xFire/SLI.)
990FX Two x16 PCIe slots that break down to x16 & 8x when used for xFire/SLI.)
990GX A 990X that includes an on-board IGP
(Any further enlightenment is always appreciated)... But by these definitions, then, the 970a s950 boards sold in the 970G, the G46, and the Krait, are not really "970" chipsets, but actually they are 990X chipsets, eh?...
Anyway...I decided this time on an FX-8320E, which I am sure will last me until something really nice for the upcoming x86 Zen architecture materializes--where AMD once again has a chance to shine brightly in the cpu performance markets.
OK, I've been very pleased with the board so far--it's what I wanted, actually, not too dissimilar from the 970a-G46.  The boards are a lot a like, but that's A-OK with me because the G46 was a terrific product for the last two + plus years, and as my wife's it is sure to do well for a couple more years at least.
Now it's Q&A, time:  The caveats are: I'm running Windows 10 build 10074 at the moment and Command Center simply doesn't run.  It tries and sputters but just never opens a window--no compatibility modes I've tried make the slightest difference.  Additionally, I can't get Sound Blaster Cinema 2 to work, either.  It runs, deposits an icon in the systray, but after that does nothing--cannot open a screen or use the software in any way--which is a shame because it looks nice, and the piggy backing of the Creative Labs stuff on top of the Realtek stuff is intriguing...!  It's probably just a temporary expense of running the 10 x64 at the moment, but I thought I'd ask just in case anyone else had experienced something similar and found a work-around.

However this board's hardware is not able to handle a 220W cpu under load like clearly listed by MSI. It doesn't matter what any people or companies build.
That's their warranty risk but not relevant for juding if the cpu can be handled by board's thermal and power design.
If companies put it on 970 Gaming and expect it to be throttled it's probably more fraud but a useful offer. No need to buy a 9590 if it won't run at full speed.

So you keyboard doesn't work with the usb 3.0 port either? All usb devices don't work with these particular ports? Which BIOS version did you update from? using what way?
    Try download the VIA usb3:

in the usb 2.0 port, it working fine. I use bios v22.e from msi 970 gaming webpage. My Via usb3 is V4.90a newest. Usually, when boot to windows, the usb 3.0 not work.

  • MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming BIOS Update

Bought this setup quite a while ago, running a 4670k on the z87 gd65 gaming board and thought about trying a bit of OCing, probably just gonna try out the OC Genie for now, but i was wondering if it would be a good idea to do a BIOS update or is that not necessary? Im still running on bios 1.3 which from what i can see on the msi site is a quite old one.

Quote from: flobelix on 23-September-14, 01:02:53
No, 1.3 is too outdated. If wanting to go for latest generation vga get the latest vga (1.B):
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7845IMS_1B0.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:  http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip
Thanks Flobelix, running windows 7 but i guess the procedure is still the same, are the ME drivers the chipset drivers? i downloaded the chipset drivers for my OS from the msi site (intel_chipse_9_mb.zip) or is it the "Intel Management Engine Driver+Microsoft hotfix".

  • Msi 970 gaming bios locked bus ratio of CPU/NB amd fx6300

psu Seasonic P1000 80 plus platinum
    I overclocked cpu to 4.5ghz, HTlink @2400, ram xmp 1866 1.5vol stable
My temperature when fulload is 60*
But this main locked bus ratio of cpu/nb is 10, i can't change bus ratio. My NB frenquence is @2000
When i change cpu is phenom ii x4 955be, i can change cpu/nb, oc that to 2600, so fine.
I think that the bios of 970 gaming not good. I try all version bios of msi 970 gaming but i get the same result.

Can you press enter and select the NB ratio? Would you upload a screenshot?

  • 970 Gaming - BIOS resolution too big for screen so can't use it, help!

    My specs, Windows 7 SP1
    MSI 970 Gaming MB
    AMD FX-6350
    ASUS Radeon HD6950
    G Skill DDR3 RAM (16gb at 1600mhz)
    1TB Sata HD
Everything else display related works fine, windows, games, videos, etc. and as this is a new build, yes all the drivers are upto date. However, I can't use the BIOS as it displays as if its four times the screens size!
I've taken a pic to illustrate the point and attached it,
And here is of course, what it should look like for comparison,
As you can see, not only is the res' totally wrong, but some graphical elements are not displaying properly, like the lack of the red border, button surrounds on the left, boot devices missing, etc. Any ideas please?

Not every TV acts the same unfortunately.
My one samsung LCD TV looked better using a VGA cable than HDMI (no idea why, it just did), meanwhile the next Samsung LED TV I got looked much better with HDMI but had strange issues whenever I went into the BIOS (this was from a laptop though).
Expecting a company to solve a problem with a TV that doesn't properly implement the HDMI spec is a bit ridiculous to be honest.

  • Will the Z87-GD65 GAMING + bios update support an i7 4790K

    Hi,
I was checking MSI official webpage for the Z87-GD65 GAMING, and seems the last bios 1.9 2/14/14 says,
    Quote
    Support Next Generation Processors.
But no direct info if it supports the i7 4970K, i been very happy with 4770K but my Blue Iris camera server is asking for quad core to increase the framrates, so i could upgrade my main pc and move the 4770K but before committing, would be good to know my motherboard will support the CPU.
    Thanks for your time,

General consensus is the 4790k is a Haswell 4770k rebranded with better TIM and higher clock rate. It should work right out of the box on Z87. Should know for sure around the 25th of this month at the CPU release and people start testing it.

  • Z77A-GD65 Gaming BIOS Update Problem

An update to version 25.1 just appeared and when I tried to run it I got an error message saying it's incompatible with 64 bit Windows. This wasn't an issue with 25.0 and there wasn't anything on the download site about the new one being 32 bit only. Has anyone else tried to install this on a 64 bit system ? Because I've been getting some unusual error messages lately and I'm not sure if the problem is with the download or something on my system. Thanks

I was hoping you saw my reply before you tried that other ME firmware update, as your ME was updated already. The ME firmware and driver are different entities, and they have different version numbers that do not match. That is not a problem.
All you need to do is look in the UEFI/BIOS System Information and it will tell you what BIOS version is installed along with what ME firmware is installed. When in Windows, you can use CPUID's CPU-Z Mainboard Tab and it too will show the information. Again, the forum flash method took care of the ME firmware flash. There is no need to go through all that multiple flashing baloney. Too much risk involved if for no other reason.
Did you download the newest CC utility yet? If still no luck, a ticket to MSI is recommended so they can work on an updated version for your mainboard.

  • 970 Gaming Bios Problem

Today I have done building my new PC, after l had installed all the drivers the Msi Live Update asked to update my bios and drivers for my mobo and my gpu, and now my PC doesn't go after post, it doesn't go to bios, it's just stucked in a black screen.
Is there anything I can do to save my mobo?

I already tried to clean the cmos and also to leave the mobo without psu and bios battery, it still doesn't work.
The worst thing is that I'm from Brazil and I don't think that they had any support here to rma my mobo, but I still don't want to take the fault over msi live update software because it's happening to a lot of mobos, you just need to see the other topics on the forum.

  • Msi 970 gaming bios

ok so my boyfriend and myself just finished creating our new computer and we found out that it was overclocked but we have no clue how too work the bios. we have a fx 8320 amd 8-core cpu chip. anyways when we turned on the computer it began too overheat and we figured out it was overclocked for some reason. its supposed too be 3.5 GHz, but it went up too 4.0... we need too know how too fix it in the bio settings so it can be reduced. someone plz help thx

The cpu runs at the specs it is supposed to as the FX8320's clock speed is 3.5 GHz minimum but Turbo clock speed is 4 GHz when the load situation allows it. The reason for high temps is most likely an insufficient cooling solution like an AMD boxed cooler. There is no oc involved.

  • MSI 970 Gaming Mobo Issue - 5 beeps

    Hi Guys,
I've trawled the internet for answers, and I still dont know what to do.
I have built a new system. Ive put an MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard and an AMD FX8350 CPU and a Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 GPU. The rest is irrelevant at the moment, as nothing else is plugged in other than these 3 parts.
I booted up the machine, and I got no video, and nothing happening at all. Thought this was a bit strange so I headed out to Maplin to buy a Motherboard test kit. Plugged the speaker onto the motherboard, and it is giving me 5 beeps.
So... I contacted Amazon and swapped my CPU for a different one, as this was the information I was given through a different forum.
Just put the CPU into the machine (taking all static care etc.) and switched it on. 5 beeps again.
Literally stumped as to what I should do next? I would have thought replacing the CPU would have fixed this issue, but apparently not!
Is 5 beeps definitely the CPU? No video either, so if it isnt, why is this still not working?
    Cheers,

My apologies - just a bit desperate for an answer I suppose

  • MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G Issues & BIOS Update

     bios.zip (136.34 kB - downloaded 37 times.)
    Hello,
ever since I bought my GTX 970 I've had about 5 BSOD's while playing CS:GO and GTA:V. I am not sure whether it's a GPU issue or not, but I never had that issue before (at least with CS:GO).
    Tech specs:
    MB: z87-pro
    CPU: i7-4770K
GPU: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G
    OS: Win7 x64 SP1
    latest OS updates
    latest nVidia drivers
I've been wondering if there's a BIOS update for my GPU? I also tried just today to download MSI Live Update 6 but after executing the installer it displays "This application does not support this platform."
    I've attached my GPU Bios.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
With LiveUpdate, don't worry. Many users got issue with it, I believe MSI is aware of this already.
Is your motherboard running latest BIOS?
Is it known to work fine with other graphics card??
Do you have any OC on your CPU/RAM? (RAM OC=more than 1600MHz). Remove and try again.
What did the BSOD say? Error code?
    Heya, thanks for the reply.
That's good to know for Live Update, just wanted to let you know. Before my GTX970 I was using an Asus GTS 450 (I know, lame) and used integrated graphics a couple of times but never had BSOD's during games with either of those. I didn't take a note of the BSOD error code, can I find a log somewhere on my system to upload it?
OC-wise everything is running on stock clock, BIOS is also latest version (2103, according to Asus).
