975 - onboard thing to disable for stability/overclockability

This board has been a nightmare as far as boards go... but I read that asus and gigabyte are facing  the same issues - seems only intel has gotten it right on this chipset.
I've had to disable the onboard sound and the jmicron to get my system to stay up all the time.  Since then, it's been almost a pleasure to work with... I haven't started overclocking it at all yet b/c I'm waiting for OCZ to send me the correctly programmed RAM.
Has anyone had 100% success with everything onboard enabled?  I would have preffered an enthusiast board that came w/o a feature rather than w/ a feature that causes instability issues.
Also - would be better if the software bundle CD it comes with (duel core center, digicell, etc) didn't come with it... or if it worked.  one or the other.

My system specs are very basic -
MSI Platinum power up
E6600 processor
Seagate 7200.10 320GB drive - no raid
520watt PSU
Asus GeForce 7600GS
LiteOn DVD Recorder
I've tried everything using two sets of RAM - Kingston and OCZ - top shelf expensive stuff.  This is also all going on inside a box - cardboard box - so I'm positive nothing is grounding (that is the only thing MSI tech support will respond with...)
I've tried 4 versions of Bios (5 if you count 7.0 that came with this board) 7.1, 7.16, 7.2 official, 7.33 - currently using
After each bios flash I did a reformat and fresh install of windows XP SP2 - each with both sets of RAM (8 total installs)
After each time, anything sound/memory intense would crash the system.  Windows media player, for instance, wouldn't run stabily.
I disabled the Realtek and bought an X-Fi card, now my system seems pretty stable.
My point is, reading through here, it looks like to get a stable system, everyone had to disable or work around something.  Why couldn't I use all my SATAs in RAID, have onboard sound, ... just use everything on the board?  If the board was only meant to run at 40% then I'd understand, but my understanding is that when you design hardware, as a hardware desinger myself, you need to plan on it being run at 100%.
I have 14 "enthusiast" systems running now (many on previous MSI boards that worked *flawlessly* from start to finish!)  I'm curious as to why this board, and 2 of the 3 competing boards have so much trouble - especially coming from such a reputable and successful company.
Also, why do I feel like tech support dropped out the bottom on this board?  With all my other MSI products, if there was an issue, they were on it and it was fixed quickly.  With this one, I feel like i'm being jerked around.   e.g. my problem:  with the shipped bios (7.0) the board would not post with the OCZ memory (which is why I now have an extra set) - MSI's response:  remove the motherboard from the case so it isn't grounding.  - real solution, update bios.  Problem 2:  CPU isn't correctly identified.  MSI response:  remove the MB from the case to make sure it isn't grounding.  real solution:  update bios (again)  Problem 3:  conflicts between onboard devices, in this case the sound device, cause instability.  MSI's response:  remove the mb from the case to make sure it isn't grounding...
I've said it before and I'll add this to my sig... this board is unacceptable!

I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. There's only a few things that could be my passcode, but because it disables for an hour, it is time consuming trying to figure it out. What do I do? I do not care about having to erase everything since it's new and there's nothing on it, but it was never synced with iTunes.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • UPGRADING?? What 45nm board/processor/ram/PSU/VC combo for stability and speed?

    Greetings all.
See from Aaron Yuri's list of compatible MBs my wife now gets my Nov'06 [a fast end of line] P975X PUE.
Not sure why MSI designed it without 45nm support - but that's a cat I cannot skin - so never mind!
Want 'stable' and fast - no overclocking needed - just brute force speed and graphics representation of time-series on-line financial data.
Use is primarily as a 24/7 equities data - calculations and graphs of 2D value [Y] vs time[X] data.
Continue WINXP SP3 for stability and compatibility with many Video cards and programs.
HDs: RAID 0 on two WD RE Caviars 320 gb drives for excellent R/W speed [Backup nightly w 1TB NAS].
Graphical display will be a quad-DVI linked to 4x24" flat panel screens.
    Would appreciate Reccys as to:
    1) MSI board - proven stable for the new 45 nm chips, with great PCI-E or PCI EXp2 VideoCard support.
    2) PSU - more than adequate  but also very 'quiet'?
    3) CPU [looking at the E8200 - as quad CPUs just not yet ready for most Softs to justify price premium]
    4) v. stable RAM [DDR 2 or 3?] - Here I need big time help as I want forward looking but need no hassles with new issues that are not yet stable.  [Nov06 -my 975X had many hassles with 800 RAM]   No sense going to DDR3 yet I think.
finally - if anyone out there has experience with:
    5) quad-dvi Video card?  Looking at the NVidia Quadros and ATIs
    - workstation or high end multi-monitor graphics.
I see Asus has the new quad-Ati base EAAH3870X2 but many 2D packages do not use this - so may stick to workstation cards.
[I have tried doubling up on 2x-DVI cards -seems they need to be absolutely identical or all kinds of hassles installing them] - so we will stick to a good 2D card - like the PNY NVS 440 or the ATI Radeon
Thanks folks for the feedback and reccys for Stable and very fast.

Sure, if you can wait further, the P45 series seems to be a good grab as well. I'm anticipating for it.
NOVO JOE - yes - but here is my concern and I was just wondering also about the P45.
BUT - I jumped in Nov06 - for the P975X PUE - after some great Reccys all around - and I ended up fighting the darn thing for a couple of months with memory issues...Took me about 3 months to get it frigging stable- and with RAID ...   So I was concerned that the P45 also was early - and also at a premium price.  I want something for 2 to 3 years - til the next IMPT generation comes along.  SO was going to get a sterling performer with stability - and not spend a lot of time building it to work....
If you all have any insight into the upcoming P45 that looks like we might not have this sort of start up issues - I'm happy to listen.  Have seen some reviews so far - all pretty good - just don't have days and weeks to fritter with it....

  • "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" Every few weeks

I have had an iTunes account for years with no issue. Lately, I have been receiving the dreaded "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" message every few weeks on my iPad 2(currenly, my only iOS device). I go through the process of reauthorizing my password and info and it works again for a while, then happens again some time later. It's getting annoying. I'm not sure what's changed. Only two computers are authorized to use my account and I am the only one who can log into either of them. No one knows my info and I live alone.
The only thing I can think is that it's a bot spamming my e-mail address and passwords in an attempt to hack my account. If that's the case, am I really going to have to go through this every few weeks just to use my iPad? Don't get me started on how stupid it is to have to type in your password to update existing apps. And that's usually when I find out, not when I actually purchase one.
Is anyone else having this issue? I'm wondering if it's more widespread. Some time ago, a chinese app was mysteriously purchased on my account. Apple refunded the purchase and reset my password. That was about the time that all of this started. The reviews on the app left no doubt that it was happening to numerous people and I have no idea how they would have forced a purchase on so many user accounts.

Everyone should keep a few things in mind:
This is an occasional problem affecting a vanishingly small percentage of the installed base. Look at the numbers of actual instances in just this thread, look at the gaps in time, etc.
Many many more ... me for example ... have never seen it at all. That doesn't mean it's not an irritation for those afflicted, but it does mean that it's not something likely to be seen as a critical issue affecting the whole base.
You aren't talking to Apple here in these user-to-user forums, at all, for any reason. This sort of communication is handled through their established Feedback links. If you can suggest a better way for them to handle things then make your thoughts and feelings known at —

Does the iPhone 4 disable for 24 hours after too many failed attempts at entering the passcode

Oh thank you. Only thing is I have no backup, so i'd prefer to wait if there is a 24 hour lock out... • Auto update stats disabled for a user Database in Sql server

While trying to improve the performance of few queries, we found via execution plan that there were lot of Index/Clustered index seeks. Therefore:
First thing we did, was to check our Re-indexing and update stats job which runs weekly for this user DB ( Around 400 GB in size and is used 24*5). The job was running fine.
Later when we ran SP_Blitz, we came to know that auto-update-stats is disabled for this user DB. We expected this to be a possible cause and change it from false to TRUE(Auto update stats)
Also, per SP_blitz there are user-created statistics for this DB. When ran the query to check how many, we saw around 7K user stats out there.
So my question would be 1) setting the Auto update stats to TRUE would require a reboot or once changed i need to track the performance and 2) Should we consider dropping those user created stats or manually look into them one by one.
How should we proceed on this, please suggest, thanks!

There may be good reasons for having auto-stats off, but those cases are not very common. It makes a little more sense to turn if off on table level. An example of the latter is a relatively small table, say < 100000 rows where not many new rows are added,
but the existing rows are being updated frequently. This will trigger autostats, but probably without much benefit.
But if you have a system which is very busy during peak times, you may not want autostats take resources during those hours. But if you turn off autostats, you will need to make sure that stats are updated in some other fashion.
Here is a query that you can use review when your statistics last were updated:
    SELECT o.name, s.name, stats_date(o.object_id, s.stats_id) AS lastupdated
    FROM   sys.objects o
    JOIN   sys.stats s ON s.object_id = o.object_id
    --WHERE  s.user_created = 1
    ORDER BY lastupdated
7000 user-created statistics sounds a little excessive, but I guess they were added to compensate for the autostats that SQL Server were not permitted to create. I would not recommend dropping these statistics, as SQL Server would spend cycles on recreating
    them.
You should not have to restart SQL Server for the Auto-update stats setting to take effect; it takes effect immediately.

  • "INIT: id "x" respawning to fast: disabled for 5 minute"

    Hello Archers!
This is my situation… I am running ArchBang! On my Acer Aspire Timeline with all Intel, 320HD, 3GB Ram DDR2 and Intel Mobile 4 Series Express Chipset Family GMA 4500MHD (GM45) 64bit. I  understand that this may not be the appropriate place to post my thread but this Forum is my last Resource!
I removed Vesa driver (# pacman –R xf86-video-vesa) and install the Intel driver available in the repositories (# pacman –S xf86-video-intel) then I edit my /boot/grub/grub.cfg and deleted: xorg=vesa nomodeset.
Rebooted and I see the changes right away fonts are looking wonderful but after all deamons finish running I go into this command login screen! Rather than my login manager to then go into my OpenBox window manager. And so I get this weird message "INIT: id  "x" respawning to fast: disabled for 5 minute"
I tried uncommenting in my slim.conf:
    #/etc/slim.conf
    Daemon yes
Per suggested in the ArchBang! forums
I also tried the KMS per the Archwiki Intel… https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel
One thing I did not try was installing lib32-intel-dri because my system is 64 bit. But I don't think this step is necessary. Is it?
I have tried other things but have not been successful. Please Help! Any suggestions/guidance and/or tips are highly appreciated.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Checkbox "hidden" disabled for web parts

    Hello,
I ran into a weird problem today.
When I open "edit web part" and then open "Layout", the checkbox for "Hidden" is disabled (grayed out).
So basically I cannot hide any of my web parts.
Also the "Zone" dropdown and "Zone Index" textbox are disabled for some reason.
I could check the "Hidden" checkbox before (last week), so I'm not sure what I did?
Is there some feature that would cause this behaviour ?
It's not our theme/css, because a default out of the box team site with the default theme/masterpage/layout shows the same problem.
Anyone else that experienced this and knows how to enable this checkbox again ?

    Hi Mente,
I'm the only sharepoint developer here, and also the only one with access to SharePoint Designer, so unless I did it by accident there is no one that disabled the AllowHide and AllowZoneChange.
I digged a bit further today in this issue, and I noticed that I can set the hidden checkbox and zone properties on web part pages, but not in wiki pages.
For the zone properties that sounds logical, as wiki pages don't work with zones as far as I know, it's just a page that can be seen as 1 zone. But why can't I hide a web part in a wiki page, that has nothing to do with being on a wiki or web part page....
I need to add some javascript, and I want to do this using a hidden content editor web part. I don't want to customize the page in SharePoint designer for just hiding a piece of code...
Replacing my wiki page with a web part page is no solution either, as I'll lose the quick launch menu that way and I still have to customize the page to readd the quick launch page.
So how can I create a page where I can add a web part and hide it, without the need to customize this page in SharePoint designer to fix things that SharePoint breaks out of the box... ?

  • HELP FOR NOOB OVERCLOCKER

Hey, so I just wanted to get some info from people on what are good bios settings for my overclock. I have looked all over the internet to find someone with the exact same build and have yet to find anyone. Everytime I come close to finding someone with it, they are using a different cPU on my mobo or a different mobo for my cpu...
    So here are my specs...

    MSI Z77A-GD65
    CPU:
    Intel Core i7-3770K
    Memory:

    Hard Drive:

    Video Card:
    EVGA GTX660-ti SC 3GB DDR5
I have it on the OC GENIE DEFAULT PROFILE AT 4.2GHZ but honestly it does not feel like enough. I am playing cs:Go and I want to stream. I have recently not been able to stream because cs:go is a a game that takes a lot of power while streaming. So I want to boost my clock to around 4.5GHZ
But, I can't find any settings or somsone with the same exact build as me so I can copy there settings...
Any help would be appreciate it, steering me in the right direction is fine. I am a quick learner once someone shows me the path. Its just hard for me to get onto the path alone ;p

Due to variations in individual CPU ability and differences in components, even if identical in all respects, the settings required will not usually be the same. Simply peruse the threads in this section of the forum and you should find plenty of things to try when using an Ivy k series. Turbo OC has always worked best for me with all the power saving features still intact.

I have a G5 and iBook with PowerPC/iTunes 10....just recently I can't bring up the preset Internet radio on either one. Is this a glitch, or have they been permanently disabled for older versions of iTunes?

I should have posted this for you a while ago. My apologies for not doing it sooner. This was passed on to me by another user R C-R
He deserves the credit for this workaround. This is his post from an area in the forum where you have to be level 6 or higher in which to participate.
I am getting the same (global) error using iTunes 10.3.1 on a 2008 MacBook running 10.6.8.
A really, really awkward workaround that works for me (for now) is if you have the URL of the Internet radio server you can go to Advanced > Open Stream... (in iTunes 10.x) or type command + U, enter it there & click OK. The station should play fine in 10.x.
You can get the URL from any version of iTunes that still supports the "radio tuning service" (which I gather is an Apple server thing Apple is no longer supporting for 10.x). Play the station normally from the newer version & type command + I to open the info window. At the bottom of the "Summary" tab you will see the URL. (Annoyingly, you can't copy the text so you will have to write it down.)
Once you have that, you can play the station in 10.x & add it to a playlist for future use.
To check this out, maybe try http://198.27.80.37/stream/mbarsott.pls -- it is a European Jazz station that works fine for me with iTunes 10.3.1.
This workaround does work, but is a bit cumbersome. I'm still holding out hope that it is just a glitch.
