975 power up edition missing dvd drives

insalled window xp pro on my new system 975 power up edition , e6600 , 2 optical drives and 2 sata drives , windows installed without any problems dectected both my optical drives and hdd.
the only thing was after the system was setup i noticed that the drives took very long to install programs on my pc , so i installed the jmicron driver which came with the cd , now the drives work faster or normal but my 2nd cd rom is not showing up in windows. it shows in the bios screen under the jmicron heading , i tried uninstalling jmicron but then windows says to install the drivers again.
pls help i want to use both drives ..
confused
thanks

You can try to uninstall the drivers or if you're using system restore, roll back to before they went on.
In the long run, you'll be happier moving everything off the J-Micron in my opinion.
then again, opinions, especially mine, are just that; as such, take them cum grano salis.  I know it is poor practice to use two optical drives on the same channel, especially when copying disk to disk, but this board seems to be the exception.
Another option, of course, is to get an SATA optical drive.  There are a few out there, and it cleans up your case a bit by not having those rolled ribbon cables in there

  • How to eject a DVD from Power Mac G5 CD/DVD drive?

I already know the trick about holding down the mouse button while the computer starts up, and whatever is in the CD/DVD drive will eject. But that does not work in this case, because my computer will no longer startup. No startup chime. The power light comes on, and that is it. It is possible that the DVD in the drive may be causing the problem, because I can hear the computer checking the drive at startup, and then the startup sequence stops. Besides I need to get the DVD back to the movie rental place.
My old PC had a small hole that you could insert a paperclip in to force a CD/DVD drive to eject, even with power off. I don't see that on this computer (Power Mac G5 [late 2005]).
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Hello,
See if iTunes can eject it.
    A Dozen ways to eject a CD/DVD...
    http://www.osxfaq.com/dailytips/08-2002/08-12.ws
    Might try this...
    >On your main hard drive, dig down into System > Library > CoreServices > Menu Extras. Inside that window, double-click on the icon called Eject.menu.
    http://www.creativetechs.com/tips/quicktips_51.html
And one more way I'd not heard of...
The old iMac didn't have a disk inside, but the mechanism was "frozen" for some reason. I took a long strip of plastic and ran in and out of the superdrive slot; eventually, the drive made that familiar mechanical the usually occurs after ejection.
    Can't eject disk - with a twist!

  • Need help with my missing dvd-driver

I've had my MacBook Pro since 2009 and I have updated to Mac OS X, Lion and then Mountain Lion over the years.. Well, somewhere along the way I have lost my dvd driver. I don't know if it was because I installed a third part dvd driver or not but I am currently unable to burn music through iTunes. When inserting a blank cd to my macbook, iTunes does not seem to detect it. I know the newer MBPs don't have a dvd driver anymore and I don't know if any of this is related to my problem or if it's something totally different. I am wondering if I'm the only person having this issue. Please suggest options I could take to resolve this issue. Thank you.

There is no driver. Never was.
"When inserting a blank cd to my macbook, iTunes does not seem to detect it"
You need to set up what you want to happen when you insert a cd into your MacBook Pro(?). System Preferences>CD's & DVD's.

  • B540 DVD drive disapperared / missing

Would like to know what can one do when the DVD drive goes missing on this computer.  Would like to know if any one has faced similar problem on B 540.  Called the support line.  They said that they would send a rep to take a look.  Have read a few threads in this community about other machines missing dvd drive.  Seems like this is a common problem in lenovo machines.
Would appreciate any help or tips that one could provide to fix this.  Is this due to some of the updates from MS windows 7 causing this.  I have win 7 home premium on my desktop.
    Thank you in anticipation.

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
This is most likely a software related issue, but as a first step, ensure the drive is still recognized at the hardware level by restarting the system and entering BIOS or boot menu .  Ensure the DVD drive is recognized as one of the attached storage devices.
If the drive is not recognized in BIOS, please contact service.
If the drive is recognized in BIOS, but does not work properly in Windows:
You might try the automated Microsoft Fixit solution for CD/DVD drives here.
If you are you are technically proficient, you can also try the following to remove the affected filter drivers.
     1. Click on the Start button and type regedit in the Start Search box. Click on the located file in the Programs list.
     2. Type in your administrator password or confirmation if you are prompted to do so and click on Continue.
     3. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
    hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Note that there may be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 3. Check that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilter values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the default data value is DVD/CDRom and the class data value is CDRom.
In the right pane, right-click Upperfilters , and then click Delete .
Click Yes to confirm the removal of the Upperfilters registry entry.
In the right pane, right-click Lowerfilters , and then click Delete .
Click Yes to confirm the removal of the Lowerfilters registry entry.
Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

  • ITunes disabling CD/DVD Drive

I've tried installing iTunes 7.5 on my laptop and it seems to install fine. Once I restart my computer, however, the CD/DVD has an error. Windows thinks its a driver problem but when I run the diagnostic it says all drivers are up to date.

I have found NOTHING on the web that answers this problem. Toshiba knows about the problem because they have a post on their support site that deals with a "missing DVD drive." Unfortunately, the two solutions they provide do not fix the problem if you want to run i-tunes. You can re-install the driver, and if that doesn't work, you can edit the registry by deleting the upper and lower filters (See toshiba support's link to Microsoft). But then you will have to repair itunes as listed above (which then re-installs the filters in the registry), and the DVD drive is missing or has problems once again. Every time I need the drive, I go through the above process. Then I repair itunes and live without a DVD drive until the next time I need it. Is this mainly a Toshiba Satellite problem?

  • Replace DVD Drive

I have an HP 7320 slimline desktop, running XP 32 bit. I'm upgrading to 2 gig memory, and need to replace the DVD drive. It is IDE; however, the hard drive is SATA. On the motherboard, it looks like there is a second, open connector for another sata device. My question is it available for a new DVD drive? I do not like the cable for the IDE drive. The problem with the current drive is when I push the button to open the drive it "kerchunks" a couple of times, but the drive does not open. I tried using a straight paperclip & punched into the small hole on the front of the drive, I can feel it engaging in some sort of a button inside, but the drive does not open. Can I replave with a SATA drive????

    Hi:
Yes, you should be able to, if you have a SATA power connector near the DVD drive you plan to replace with a sata one.
You will also need a SATA data cable, of course.
I did that on an old HP d530 CMT.  I didn't have a SATA power connector near the optical drive, so I had to get a Molex to SATA power adapter.
    Below is what I got.
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details-print.asp?EdpNo=3151189&Sku=ULT4010...
Mine had an IDE HDD and IDE DVD.
So after replacing both with SATA and those thin data cables, it really opened up the real estate in the case for better airflow.

  • Read this for CD/DVD Drive with burning, missing drives, not seeing discs

Seeing lots of the same posts with the same solutions being applied (mostly upper/lower control filters/MS Fixit)... so I thought I'd put this up for everyone.
*Update* If this helps, please click the kudos to the right as I'm trying to gauge how effective this is. If you have the time to help the community, please reply stating what did or did not work.
There are some helpful HP support articles that you may want to try before posting:
If your drive cannot burn discs... or you can burn CDs but not DVDs (or vise/versa)... read this...
Drive Cannot Write to Writable Discs (Windows 7)
Drive Cannot Write to Writable Discs (Windows Vista)
Drive Cannot Write to Writable Discs (Windows 98, ME, XP)
    Summary:
    1) Try different discs! Cheap discs can be hit or miss. Find a disc brand and type that works best.
    2) Try burning at a slower speed (not the best option, but can often get the job done if the laser is fading).
    3) Remove drive from Device Manager and remove upper/lower filters (see below).
    4) Use MS System Restore to go back to a time when it was working.
    5) Use PC-Doctor/HP Hardware Diagnostic software to check for a bad drive.
    6) If the drive is not bad - save your files and use HP Recovery to put the system back to the beginning.
If your drive cannot read discs; CDs or DVDs or both...
Drive Cannot Read Discs in Windows 7
Drive Cannot Read Discs in Windows Vista
Drive Cannot Read Discs in Windows 98, ME, and XP
    Summary:
    {restart the PC at least once to see if the drive shows up on boot}
    1) See if the drive is listed in Device Manager (look for problems if it is).
    2) Check autoplay (skip if you don't use).
    3) Make sure a bad disc isn't knocking out the drive (an operating system mounts discs as drives and things can get screwed up).
    4) Try reading the disc from a command prompt environment (outside of Windows).
    5) Reinstall drive from Device Manager (if drive is listed). {I'd replace this with bigger process of remove upper/lower filters (see below)}.
    6) Use MS System Restore to go back to a time when it was working.
    7) Use PC-Doctor/HP Hardware Diagnostic software to check for a bad drive.
CD/DVD drive is missing (not in Windows Explorer or My Computer or in burning software)...
CD/DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows 7)
CD/DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows Vista)
CD or DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows 98, ME, or XP)
    Summary:
    1) See if the drive is listed in Device Manager (troubleshoot based on what you see).
    2) Reset Power: Unplug power cord, press Power button for 10 seconds.
    3) Check power and data cables attached to the drive and look in the BIOS for the drive name.
    4) Remove upper/lower filters (see below).
    5) Reinstall burning software
    6) Get and CD/DVD drive firmware updates if available (to prevent missing drives in the future (I assume)).
    7)  Use MS System Restore to go back to a time when it was working.
    Stuck Drawer...
Opening a Stuck CD or DVD Drive Tray
    Summary:
    1) Press eject button on case, on drive, button on keyboard (if exists).
    2) Right-click drive icon in Windows and select Eject.
    3) Turn off PC and inert a straightened paper clip into the manual release hole on the drive.
    4) Check the power cord on the back of the drive.
MS FIXit, Resetting Upper and lower Filters (XP, Vista and 7)
First... try to use the MS Fixit (for Vista) if you are on the computer having the problem)...

Otherwise, here are the manual steps (overview):
    1) Uninstall the CD/DVD drive in Device Manager and DO NOT RESTART the computer.
    2) Uninstall your CD burning software (make sure you have the installation disc or you can resinstall from Start, Programs, PC Help and Tools, Recovery Manager (or Driver/Application Recovery). If you don't have the installation discs, skip this step - it might still work).
    3) Open the registry editor (Start -> Run -> enter Regedit) ... might want to make a backup of the registry at this point.
    4) Open the following keys:
     + HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
     + SYSTEM
+ CurrentControlSet (or the current control set with lowest number if that is all that is listed)
     + Control
     + Class
    5) Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. It has to be this exact key - make sure you can see the last numbers!!!
    6) Delete the UpperFilter and or the LowerFilters value in the right window if either exists.
    7) RESTART the computer - this step is important. Wait for Windows to find and install the CD/DVD drive you removed earlier.
    8) Reinstall your burning software and restart the computer again.

That's why you want to make a backup of the registry. If you didn't make a backup, use MS system restore to go back. The only values you should remove are UpperFilter or LowerFilter - one or both may be in there and can be removed. If neither value exists, then that is probably why you can't burn and Windows is not recognizing your drive as a writable drive.

According to that, you don't seem to have added in an UpperFilters entry for GEARAspiWDM.
Did you not do that (as per the instructions in the document on what to do if the UpperFilters entry is missing)?
Or did you revert the key after attempting a filter edit and still getting the error message?

  • T60 suddenly switches off, will not power on again, DVD drive related?

I have searched and searched for this, and although finding many "T60 will not power up" I haven't
    found any with this twist.
My T60 is ~2 years old, and the problem just started recently. Working on battery one day, the laptop
suddenly died - like instant loss of power. I could not turn it on again. One strange thing though:
When I removed the battery and re-inserted it, the batt-icon-light came on briefly (a blink). If I then pushed the power button it lit up for 1 sec and then went out, not booting. Repeating it, without removing the battery, it didn't light up.Ok, thinking maybe the power supply was dead, I took it completely apart, removing also the harddrive and the DVD drive. By chance I then saw that it had "fixed itself". I resembled it and it worked again, powering up like nothing had happend.
Then it happened again yesterday. I read in here about the "push power 10 times, hold power down 30 sec" etc, but had no luck with that. Again, when I inserted the adapter cable the light came on (power plug + batt light) but when pushing the power button they went off, and if I removed and reinserted the plug same thing again.
I then read about removing HDD and DVD drive, and that did it! So, it happened again today and this time I just removed the DVD - and it booted again.
So, after this loong description here I hope that some of you have tried/seen this before or have an idea what it can be. I left the DVD drive out, and it has not happened again...yet (it's been 5 hours only).
    Ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    Martin.

    Hi Nordal,
I know this is an old thread, but since I too am now experiencing inability to startup by T60 and seems to be getting worse in the last months, I was wondering what additional things you may have learned in the last 2 years since facing this issue.  My system will typically be in standby or hibernate and when I open lid to start it up again, Power and Bat light go out and cannot start it.  No beep codes, nothing.  Previously, recovery was to pull battery (which is now new Lenovo as of last month and working great), hit power button a few times and then hold it in, put battery back in and AC adapter, then it would start up.  In last few days, this no longer works.  I have to go through similar step, but now I have to startup only with battery, once in Desktop, I can plug in adapter and no issue until next time.  I have three 90W AC adapter all putting out correct 19.5-20 VDC.  Have rulled out an adapter issue, I believe.  Concerned about something on motherboard being flaky, but cannot pinpoint issue.  A few days ago when this happened, I had to pull CMOS battery, wait a few min., then put everything back together and was able to boot.
Have never pulled anything more than RAM, CMOS battery, main battery, and AC adapter.  May have to try DVD drive next time.
    Thanks,
    Kaz
It's probably best to start a new thread instead of reopening one thats 2-3years old, but from what your describing it sounds like your slowly ruling out everything except the system board, nothing you don't know already.
I don't normally deal with T60's, my main focus is T61, but I do have a source for the boards if you were to need one, as well as having a source to get the older boards reflowed. Some of the older models had problems with solder connections cracking when the board would flex, which can be repaired on an infrared reballing machine. My friend Dominic (realblackstuff from thinkpadforums.com) operates a website where boards are collected and sent off to be reflowed in wholesale lots. It's quite reasonably priced, as are the T60 boards pulled form grade "A" corporate laptops, but lets hope you can find a lesser component that is causing the problems.

  • IMac G5 bluetooth + airport + power supply problems - oh and the dvd drive

Yeah, seems like a lot is going wrong with my mac lately. I bought the iMac G5(no isight) model last year around july. I had some power issues (i.e. leaving the house with it turned on to come home and find it off) For the last year though that was all that was wrong. Once I had to reinstall OS X because it would not find the OS X harddrive during one of these power losses, but that was it.
Then about two weeks ago, I came home to a turned off iMac. I thought the power had gone out in my apartment, but the clocks were all right, and to my surprise the iMac would not turned on. Because I am not under warranty I searched online and found an extended exchange program for my emc model. (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/) I made an appt at the apple store and they replaced the power supply.
I got the machine back two nights ago and my bluetooth hardware wasn't recognized. And I now had a new "ink" system preference panel in the hardware section which aparently is some sort of handwriting recognition tablet. It ticked me off, but I just wanted to use my computer.
Well today I came home from work and my computer was acting funny. Everywhere I clicked brought up dashboard. This had never happened before and I had no choice but to force a shutdown. Powered it back up and poof, there goes my airport card. No hardware recognized. Now I have a 25 ft cable running the floor of my apartment. This was cause enough to call apple. I was told to make another apointment to bring the computer in. The guy made it sound like it was no big deal to lug a 30 lb bulky computer 40 miles and through a crowded mall. He also made no promises that the repairs would be covered under the exchange program.
I just wanted to hear any suggestions before I decide whether or not its worth it to bring in the computer. Nothing shows up in system profiler under bluetooth or airport. Should I just lie to the "genius" and tell them that my computer still shuts down randomly? I think that way they would at least replace the logic board (which I think is the problem) before telling me to sell my kidney and pay for repairs. I've tried reseting the SMU, and I looked at the bluetooth and airport cards to see if they had been accidently disconnected during the PS replacement. They are actually screwed into the logic board so I think their connections are efficient.
Oh and about the DVD drive. I have to use two cd's in order to burn a single disc. The first disc I put in the drive NEVER works. It spins for about 30 seconds then starts buzzing like blender and spits the cd back out. The second blank disc I put in USUALLY works, but sometimes it takes three discs. This problem has always been there since day 1, but I don't burn enough cd's for it to be an issue.
Thank you for listening to my gripes. I really don't think I'll make the mistake of buying the first issue of a model.
    iBook G4 900mghz, iMac G5 20" 2.0 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK, first thing -to restore your bluetooth, shut down, unplug for a few minutes and then reboot. Thay usually brings the BT back. You should also repair permissions. Reset your SMU nd your PRAM as well.
Try those four things and please post back,

  • CD Drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs - this happens any time I upgrade itunes

I just upgraded to the new version of itunes for my ipod touch.  My CD Drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs occurs and it does not show up listed as part of my computer.  How can I fix this?

Your DVD drive? Why would this be missing after a iTunes download?

Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

  • 2 probs,Neo2 no longer detects DVD drive in POST & Floppy slot missing pin? RMA?

Sorry for starting another thread but my first post wasnt very explanatory.
Here's my problems. My DVD/CD Drive is no longer being recognized by my motherboard in POST and it wont appear in Windows/My Computer. This started when I was troubleshooting what I thought was a faulty Floppy drive by reconnecting cables and reinstalling different chipset drivers. Somewhere during that stretch Windows froze during load for the first time in two weeks of ownership. Eventually I noticed not only is my floppy connection messed up (more on that in a bit) but my DVD drive was no longer showing up in My Computer. It powers on just fine, ejects properly. But the board isnt reading it for some reason.
I tried reconnecting the cable and rolling back to my original drivers. Checked if all the pins we're in the right place on the board and on the drive. I bought a new IDE round cable today to make sure the MSI round cable wasn't at fault. New cable didnt make a difference, still wont recognize the drive in POST or Windows. I cleared CMOS so the BIOS was reset, no difference. My HD is SATA so I cant test the IDE connection with a HD but its sounding more and more like the MoBo is the issue.
Is RMA my only recourse here? Would a IDE connection just go bad like that? Appreciate any suggestions on this, Id hate to RMA a board Ive barely used for 2 weeks.
As for the floppy I checked the slot on the board and sure enough I think Im missing a pin. The bottom row has the two empty pins, but the top row also has a pin missing which judging from the connection on the drive itself doesnt match up. There isnt supposed to be a pin missing on the top (right hand side) row correct?

I guess I jumped on the gun on the floppy missing a pin, thats indeed what it looks like. Thanks for that Supershanks. Perhaps my floppy problem is related to my IDE issue.
Thats correct, CMOS doesnt show it either. Ive tried both IDE slots, no dice. The new IDE cable I got has clear markers for System Board and Primary so Im pretty sure its configured correctly. I've had the BIOS at default since my drive was being detected just fine on the same settings before this went haywire. It just baffles me the connection would go on the fritz like this out of the blue.
Jon, it'll be my own by a Mr. Jack Daniels if I dont get this figured out soon.
