975X Platinum Graphics Card Compability

Hi!
I've just got a new graphics card and it won't boot. The monitors won't get any signal at all.
My set up:
PSU: Corsair 850W (tried a couple of different PSUs)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo, 6600 @ 2.4ghz
RAM: 4gb Corsair.
GPU: Nvidia 8800 GTS (works fine), ATI Radeon HD 6870 (does not boot).
I've tried the new Graphics card in another computer, works fine. I've tried other "older" graphics cards in my computer, works fine. I've tried other "newer" graphics cards in my computer, with the same error, does not boot.
It seems like the mainboard won't work together with the new graphics cards. But I haven't been able to find any information about this, i.e. which cards should work, and why?

Thanks for the quick response!
The ones i tested that didn't work was in the Radeon 5xxx/6xxx series, don't remember exactly, but at least two. And the GeForce 470 I tried worked, which seems to match what you say. I think the solution for me will be to find a new GeForce instead, don't have the time, nor the money to upgrade the mainboard.
At least now I know what the problem is, again, thanks a lot.

  • MSI X48C Platinum - Graphic card identification problem

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for a long time which I still haven't been able to solve.
When I plug my graphics card to the PCI-E slot 1 (Slot closest to the cpu) I get nothing on my monitor. I have to plug it on to the  PCI-E slot 2 (PCI-E 4) to get anything on the monitor. I am running Windows 7 (64bit) Professional.
With this configuration (That is, the graphics card being installed in slot PCI-E4) I am getting a lot of blue screen failures due to  graphics card being non-responsive, especially when running graphic intensive programmes.
Here are the details of my PC configuration.
Motherboard - MSI X48C Platinum (MSI MS 7353)
    RAM  - 6GB DDR3
    Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300  -  2500Mz
    BOIS - Version 7.4V
    Graphics card - Hightech Radeon HD4870  1GB DDR5
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi go_for,
    Thanks for the reply.
I am using a Aerocool 750W  (model VP-750)power suppy and the graphics card is connected with 2 PCI-E power connectors from the power supply.
The problem is that it runs on the other pci-e slot not the first one. Could the first slot be defective?
    Thanks

  • [MSI P35 Platinum] Graphics Card Slot

    Hello,
I just bought the MSI 560 GTX graphics card. My motherboard is MSI P35 Platinum so i was wondering if i can place the graphics card in the 2nd PCI-E slot or this could occure problems. This is my motherboard:
so my question is: can i put the graphics card in the YELLOW slot? Cause it won't fit in the upper PCI... Thanks

Why doesn't it fit?  It should fit without problems.
Because of the I/O controller (i think this is it...)
Quote from: Jack on 03-September-11, 19:12:09
You can do that, however, in that slot, the video card will only get x4 lanes assigned to it (instead of x16 lanes in the primary PCI-Express slot).
And what difference does this make?

  • MSI 975X Platinum PUE RAM Compability

I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't seem to find anything.
Right now I'm using a matched pair (2x1 GB) of Kingston Value RAM PC5300, and they pretty good for the price.
But these RAM, (and no, they're not ment for OCing, I know ) don't let me OC one single Mhz above FSB 333, so I would like to buy some faster RAM. But unfortunately I don't have a lot of money to spend.
I've found a matched pair (2x1 GB) of Corsair XMS 2 PC6400 RAM, that are quite cheap.  Are the XMS 2 RAM compatible with my MSI i975X Platinum Power Up Edition mother board, or should I look elsewhere?
    Thanks a lot in advance

All G.Skill 6400 ram seems to work a treat in this board. I changed my Geil for 2GB of G.Skill 6400-pk (4.4.4.12). I can now hit 400fsb and no longer have any restart ( warm boot issues). It was also cheap.
They also do cas 5 sets too which are even cheaper.
Can't recommend this ram enough with this board.

  • 975X Platinum PowerUp compatible GFX card

    Hello,
instead of upgrading the whole pc i decided to upgrade just the graphics adapter. It is when i realised, that i.e. a nvidia gtx 285 does not fit into the pci-e slot, when all the sata ports are in use (i can't remove the sata connectors, as they are all needed, so i didn't check whether the gtx285 fits in with no sata connector)
The card right now in the pc is a msi 8800gtx, which has almost the same length as the gtx285, but lacks the end of the big exit fan.
My question is, can anyone recommend a new and good grapghics adapter, that will fit into the 975X Platinum PowerUp edition, when all sata slots are in use.
    Thanks:)

Have you looked into SATA connectors that connect at 90°?

  • 975X PE + ATI HD2400/2600 Graphic card

I am wondering if the new ATI Radeon HD 2400 (or HD2600) graphic card with integrated audio decoder it will work on 975X PE mobo? I mean, if the sound will work... ATI responed ro my question that , Yes, the sound should work. But it is strange for me, from where the graphic card will take the audio input? There is no need of any additional SPDIF cables/ inputs from the mobo... Maybe the Windows will detect the graphioc card as a separate audio devices? In this case, I should chose between mobo audio and graphic audio..

If the graphics card supports the function, then the ATI drivers should have the capability to support those functions as well. The mainboard will support the graphics card, just the matter of drivers only.

  • Graphics card on secondary PCIe slot PUE 975X

I changed my graphics card slot to the secondary PCI express slot. But now none of my operating systems will boot correctly with the nvidia graphics driver. Only when set on failsafe mode or vesa drivers (linux), is the only way to render the desktop environment. Is there any way to have my graphics card on the 2nd slot and for it to work correctly? I am using a Nvidia Geforce 6800GS.

You are right. Using the 975X PUE, you can use 2 nVidia cards in the PCIe 16X slots(they will run at 8x) and should be able to be used with 3 monitors.  The 2 slots can be used in a crossfire configuration(2 ATI cards);ATI's answer to SLI. Using nVidia cards, you should be able to use 2 PCIe cards and get the 3 monitors since they obviously would not be in crossfire(and not in SLI since the board can not do SLI). Your PCI card is an ATI chipset and the PCIe card is nVidia. Since you have both nVidia and ATI drivers installed and being used, I think you maybe getting a conflict (which is likely causing the issue).  If you had PCI nVidia card, it might work.
When cards are in Crossfire or in SLI mode, only 2 monitors will be supported. If SLI or Crossfire is disabled, you should be able to get up to 4 monitors.  See if you can borrow your friends nVidia card and try it out. I would advise you to uninstall any ATI drivers.  You are going to need an additional nVidia card(PCIe or PCI).

  • New Graphics Card for DKA790-GX Platinum

Hi guys, looking for some advice on a discreet graphics card solution for my DKA790-GX Platinum PC build. I've just purchased a new 27" LED monitor (not arrived yet) that natively runs 1920 x1080 and my friend told me that the inbuilt Radeon HD 3300 graphics in the 790GX chipset will struggle with that resolution ?
Now first, I should explain I don't play games on the PC at all, but am a photographer, so regularly use Photoshop CS 5, Lightroom 4, Nikon Capture NX2 etc, and also play a few DVD and Blue ray movies though the PC. Because of this I'm not after a full blown graphics card, as to be honest, I want to spend the minimum possible, but obviously want a meaningful performance increase over the in built graphics.
Something else to throw in the mix is that I'm currently running without the side port memory enabled in Bios, as  whenever I do enable it, I get corrupted graphics within a few seconds and eventually a BSOD. Without the side port enabled, it runs fine on my current 22" Monitor running 1680 * 1050.
My set up currently consists of the above motherboard, an AMD Phenom Black X4 940 3.0ghz black edition processor (not overclocked), 8gb Crucial Ballastix DDR2 PC2-6400 Ram, DVD re-write and Blue ray player / DVD burner. OCZ 256mb SSD boot drive and WD Cavier 2TB 7200 rpm HDD. 700w Power supply.
Do you think my friend is right or will the Radeon HD3300 be fine for my purposes ?
    Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Well, from what I understood in your post you want to crossfire two 3870 in a K9A Platinum. That's possible because it is a crossfire board and running two 3870 is just normal crossfire.
Spider or crossfire X is the able to run three or four vgas in triple/quad crossfire. That's of course not supported by K9A Plat. You would need a K9A2 Platinum which supports Crossfire X and has the necessary four PCIE Graphic slots.

  • New Graphics card for P965 Platinum

My good old P965 Platinum has lost its graphics card lately and I need to look for a replacement.
The old graphics card was an ATI X1950 XTX 512MB and has stood up well considering the vast advances in everything since then.
The problem is compatability since all new cards these days are PCI Express 3.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what newer graphics cards would work on this motherboard (if any)?

We had excellent results with GTS450 and GTX460 on MSI P965 Platinum.
But they are PCI-E 2.0 graphic cards.
You may also try GTX 650 and GTX 660, but it may fail in case of BIOS/VBIOS incompatibilities.
In any case, you need a good (single rail) PSU (at least 450W for real).
The additional PCI-E power connector is a must, because the PCI-E 1.0 slot cannot provide the power for a PCI-E 2.1 and 3.0 graphics card.

  • A few questions about Memory and Power Supply for MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edit

Bought this Motherboard: MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edition
    975X Platinum V.2(7246-020)
    I have a P4 CPU HT in it with 2 512mb sticks of DDR2 memory (533mhz).
I am upgrading to a Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU which has a 1066mhz FSB
What memory speed should I purchase to achieve the fastest bus speed without overclocking???
I get confused as my current memory is 533 which I guess on a Pentium 4 with HT cuts the FSB speed in 1/2 to 266mhz.
    Any recommendations?
Do I need to buy Dual Channel or can I just buy 2 sticks?
    Thank you

    Great info again guys!
I'll stay away from OCZ (I read it's more for overclockers).
    @DryHeat:
I watched your sig, great setup! I'm planning for about the same setup (MSI 975x PUE, P180, C2D, ...). But will try a Scythe Ninja for CPU cooler and use an MSI graphic card (maybe 2 cards for 4 monitors in total).
Is your setup silent or just quiet? Makes a big difference for me.
What would you change now? And what is the most noisy component?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm not an expert and by budget does not permit me from making any mistakes.
The case fans create the most noise.  When they are all on "low" I an hardly hear them and have to shake the mouse to see if it's on, but on medium it sounds like a "standard" computer.  Not terrible, but not quite.  On high they are down-right loud.

When I boot, the D-Bracket briefly shows green lights at position 1 and 4 and then just hangs on one green light in position 4. I see no display on the monitor. All the fans are spinning but nothing else happens!
I got the following response from MSI :
    Dear Sir,
Thank you for your concern. Please follow the below steps to have a try.
1.unplug the battery and clear cmos.
2.clean up all the components and plug them again.
    3.change another memory.
    4.change another power supply.
5.make sure whether the cpu fan is fixed properly and tightened.
If still can't help, please mail us again.

I have tried everything they said, but it has made no difference. The strange thing is that no red leds come on. I thought that the first in the display sequence of the d-bracket was four red leds.
Any ideas? I really need your help!

Did you connect the 8-pin +12V-CPU-connector to your power supply?
    Quote
    GFX : Sapphire X1950GT 256MB
Make sure the 6-pin PCIe connector on your graphics card is hooked up to your PSU. Also use the 4-pin (4x1) PCIe connector on your mainboard to re-assure stable power supply.
Take the board out of your case and put it on a non-conducting surface for testing.  Use barebone configuration only:
    - CPU
    - one RAM module in Slot 1
    - graphics card
    - D-Bracket
    - disconnect hard drives, optical drives, USB devices, add-on cards and USB front panel connectors.
    - Clear CMOS (remove main power plug removed from PSU first)
Then try to boot your system again and see if there are any changes. If not, use the other RAM module and try again.
    One more thing:
Make sure that you are really using the Power-Up Edition of the 975X Platinum mainboard.  The regular edition (MS-7246 v1.x) does not support your CPU.  There was a case not too long ago in which a user bought a 975X Plat. PUE mainboard (MS-7246 v2.x) that did not want to work as expected.  It turned out that he actually got the older edition of the board.

  • X1950PRO Crossfire Incompatible with 975X Platinum

*** BIG APOLOGIES TITLE INCORRECT SHOULD READ X1950PRO ***    ED - Oh, I can modify the title too
    Hiyas,
Very brief rundown of the setup -
    Thermaltake Toughpower 600w
MSI 975X Platinum Power Up Edition
    MSI Radeon X1950Pro Graphics Card x 2
Now to begin with I'm pretty sure that ATI did away with the whole 'Mastercard' set up and you don't need to have one 'Mastercard' and one normal card, could someone clarify this for me? http://ati.amd.com/technology/crossfire/howitworksdemo.html <-- That would appear to confirm what I already believe.
Secondly, the MSI 975X board that I purchased which is an alleged Crossfire ready board, didn't have the ribbon cable in the box, nor is it said to have the ribbon cable in the box as far as the contents go. In fact the manual is still talking about the DVI bridging cable, which I believe is the now defunct way of doing this? Correct me if I'm wrong.
The said ribbon cable was not in either of the X1950Pro graphics card contents either which again leaves me wondering how the setup should be instigated. Could somebody please clarify for me if the above Crossfire demo I have posted is what I should be looking at, and should I be harrassing my supplier about the missing ribbon cable, even though the box contents says nothing of a ribbon cable?? Should the ribbon cable be supplied with the card or the motherboard?

What is your BIOS? try with different BIOSes?
Maesus, you posted in my thread regarding the sagas I experienced with BIOS and getting the RAID to function on this board.
BIOS is 7.1 and the other guys were pretty sure the only thing I would lose was the HPET Vista crapola by backdating to this version. Though in all fareness I understand that crossfire setups are few and far between.
Now the reason I'm stuck with the old BIOS version of 7.1 is that 7.16 reports RAM at 3.4Gb and anything newer than either of them means I lose my fifth SATA port which once again leaves me nowhere.
Can anybody please point me to where in the system post it should show that the system has detected both cards?
That way I know straight up if it's a BIOS/Hardware issue or a Windows/Driver issue.
    also
Should I be able to run a card in the secondary slot (obviously speed is reduced) without a card in the primary slot?
This is where I'm at right now.
    Removed secondary card.
Carried out format and reinstallation with only primary card present.
Shut down system after completion of installation.
Physically installed secondary card, power to card and two bridging ribbons.
Booted system to windows and no problems.
    Installed ATI 7.2 Catalyst Software.
    Reboot.
    All working fine.
Enter ATI Catalyst control panel to enable Crossfire but option not present anywhere.
Am running Catalyst 7.2 and at this stage 7.3 hasn't reared it's head yet.

  • 975X Platinum stuck at 66x10 w/ Core 2 Duo E6700

Hello. I'm trying to set up a Core 2 Duo E6700 with a 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition board. The board was shipped a few days ago from Newegg, and I haven't flashed the BIOS. I think it's version 7.0 dated 7/12/2006.
The BIOS shows the CPU running at 66x10 = 667 MHz, even though FSB has been detected at 266 and processor model is correctly reported as E6700 @ 2.67 GHz.
The first time I powered it up, I set the BIOS to optimized defaults. I didn't have a chance to see what the reported speed was before that. Also, in the CPU info section of the BIOS, L2 cache size is reported as 8K and CPU temp is 50C.
Is this a bad CPU, incorrect setting somewhere, or what?
    - I'm using the Intel retail HSF. I've removed it once since I first installed it to see if it was installed properly, and I saw the paste evenly spread over the CPU.
    - Power supply is an Antec TruePower Trio 650: 24A @ 3.3 and 5V, (19A @ 12V) * 3.
    - Memory is Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4. That's supposed to be DDR2-800 4-4-4-12. BIOS has it running at 667 and timing is auto.
    - Graphics cards are Radeon X1900XT + X1900 Crossfire edition.
    - Seagate 7200.10 320GB is plugged into SATA1.
    - Pioneer DVR-111D is master on IDE1.
    Thanks much for any help.

Thanks for the replies. After I got Windows installed, I saw that the CPU was indeed running at the correct 2.67 GHz. Since then I've been busy playing games. ;-)
As for installing 715, I must admit I'm reluctant to void the warranty on this brand-new board. I do want to help test it, though. Perhaps in a couple more days.
    Again, thanks for your help.
