975X Platinum Power Up Edition v 2.1 - Will not Boot!

Hi All,
I have what seems to me to be a major issue. I've just built a new machine with the following specs :
PSU : Coolermaster eXtreme Power 650W PSU - ATX 12V V2.01 120mm Fan 20+4pin
MBO : 975X Platinum Power Up Edition v 2.1
CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache
MEM: OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 5-5-5-12 GOLD XTC *SPECIAL OPS* ED
GFX : Sapphire X1950GT 256MB
DVD: Samsung SH-S203B 20X DVD±RW/RAM / DL Serial ATA Black Bare Drive
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar T7k500 HDT725032VLA360 320GB SATAII (2)
When I boot, the D-Bracket briefly shows green lights at position 1 and 4 and then just hangs on one green light in position 4. I see no display on the monitor. All the fans are spinning but nothing else happens!
I got the following response from MSI :
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your concern. Please follow the below steps to have a try.
1.unplug the battery and clear cmos.
2.clean up all the components and plug them again.
3.change another memory.
4.change another power supply.
5.make sure whether the cpu fan is fixed properly and tightened.
If still can't help, please mail us again.

I have tried everything they said, but it has made no difference. The strange thing is that no red leds come on. I thought that the first in the display sequence of the d-bracket was four red leds.
Any ideas? I really need your help!

Did you connect the 8-pin +12V-CPU-connector to your power supply?

Make sure the 6-pin PCIe connector on your graphics card is hooked up to your PSU. Also use the 4-pin (4x1) PCIe connector on your mainboard to re-assure stable power supply.
Take the board out of your case and put it on a non-conducting surface for testing. Use barebone configuration only:
- CPU
- one RAM module in Slot 1
- graphics card
- D-Bracket
- disconnect hard drives, optical drives, USB devices, add-on cards and USB front panel connectors.
- Clear CMOS (remove main power plug removed from PSU first)
Then try to boot your system again and see if there are any changes. If not, use the other RAM module and try again.
One more thing:
Make sure that you are really using the Power-Up Edition of the 975X Platinum mainboard. The regular edition (MS-7246 v1.x) does not support your CPU. There was a case not too long ago in which a user bought a 975X Plat. PUE mainboard (MS-7246 v2.x) that did not want to work as expected. It turned out that he actually got the older edition of the board.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem before. I've owned the 975X Platinum Power-up edition motherboard version 2.1 for just a little over three years. I have installed Windows 7 on the system in December 2009. On resuming from sleep mode tonight it locked up necessitating a reboot - on reboot the it detects the processor, memory and hard drives and then displays "keyboard error or not found" and stops waiting for a F1 or Delete key press.
I've tried the Logitech USB keyboard on another system, so it's not the keyboard. The diagnostic bracket displays red on LED 1, green on 2/3, and 4 is not lit. What does this mean? Does anyone have any ideas on what to try? The USB ports have power as I have other USB peripherals that have power, could it be that the keyboard controller has blown?
The motherboard has worked well for three years until tonight and I would rather not spend a lot of money repairing the board or buying new components for a new system.

HI everyone,I have been looking at the 975X Platinum Power Up Edition but i see a lot of bios problems posted here.so i guess i will go with another board .i don't want to go with another board with bios problems unless they can be fixed in due time.so is it a good board or not?

I agree with your observation that these Forums provide a level of support for the purchase of MSI products, especially motherboards. I've clung to MSI motherboards through seven PC builds . . . all seven have been with MSI motherboards. Number eight is underway with the third of three 975X PUEs bought at the same time. Without these Forums I might never have solved some of my PC build problems.
In a nutshell, and in my experience, the 975X has issues. Worse, neither it nor the supporting MSI Utilities are up to even the previous MSI standards, not that they were all that great to begin with. Worse still, I see little evidence that MSI is actively addressing many of these issues . . . while MSI Sales sits around and slaps each other on the back for the favorable Tom's Hardware review that the 975X received.
If these Forums don't give you enough of a "flavor" for the 975X, go to NewEgg and read some of the reviews there. Admittedly, these MSI Forums are FOR people experiencing problems, but not NewEgg. Those reviewers, for the most part, want to think the BEST of their purchase . . . they WANT to be pleased. By a wide magrin they have not been pleased.
Me? "Disgusted" pretty well sums up my feelings. My next motherboard purchase will definitely NOT be MSI. Sorry, I'm a candid poster, 62 years of age, and ready to admit that I don't always make the right decisions or purchase the best products. Two come instantly to mind: SyQuest "zip" drives & MSI motherboards.

975x Platinum Power Up Edition Help Required

Have just purchased the following setup
Motherboard: MSI 975x Platinum Power Up Edition
Processor: Intel E6600
Ram: Cruicial Ballistix 2 x 1GB PC6400 Dual Channel (MSI Say It Is Supported)
GFX: MSI GeForce 7950GT 512MB PCI E
HDD: 2 x 80gb Seagate (Connected Via Sata)
CDROM: Sony DVD-RW
PSU: Hiper Modular 530W Black SLI Certified PSU
Think thats all you need, its been built by an experienced pc builder.
It will not start, when we switch it on it boots for about 5 seconds then shuts down and restarts, the error reporting leds are in the following combination:
Red Green
Red Red
Originally we were running Geil Ram, but realised MSI didn't support this so got some Crucial however it still doesn't work, I have read a number of threads on this forum and tried resetting the CMOS and playing around with the memory configs, any help and advice on how to get this working would be much appreciated.

Sympathies - We have a similar setup. I returned my first Corsair twins as the board would not boot with them as a twin. Turns out one was supposedly defective. BUT - when I recently replaced my Corsair twin 800s that did not work eventually with twin 1Gb CL4 800 Crucial Ballistix stix - I had a severe reboot issue and frequently - the system would not start without hitting the reset or the cold boot start button on the powerup many times. When it did not start I had the same LED settings you noted.
My colleagues who run a "confuser" shop, took out the Crucial memory, tried it in another 975 board (I think the ASUS 5B delux). and the Asus board booted just fine with the memory. They left the momory at 1.8VDIMM - stock - even though Crucial recommends 2.2 for these stix.
They removed the 975XPUE battery, reset the CMOS, and plugged the battery back in - VOILA - everything worked and today I am running as below. We have no idea why it would work after a CMOS reset as I had tried that before (but perhaps I had not left it long enough or did not press the reset button on the CMOS in the right sequence - something real simple like that????? ).
BOTTOM LINE: since they did that - it has no reboot issue - and all I did with the memory is set it manually to 5-4-4-12. It is like a ROCK now.
Others are more qualified than I about this board - but suggest you might go back to basics:
1) check the memory works in another board
2) remove battery, wait 10 minutes, press CMOS reset button for 10 seconds, replace battery
3) check yourself all the power/CPU fan connections and that you have the 4-pin molex connected to the GRAKA
(do you have a 20 or 24 pin power bar ?)
4) reseat the memory (just use one stick in either of the green mem slots)
5) do not bother connecting the IDE/CDROM until you get to post.
6) Just use one SATA drive (connected to SATA 1 (top))
7) Put in a less powerful GRAKA (a radeon 600 or NVIDIA equivalent) and run it with a VGA connector.
8) Read the MOAN guide just in case you all forgot something real simple. It does not take that long to ge through it.
It took me quite a few fiddles and frustrations to get my 6600 rig solid - sorry to hear about yours not even kick starting.
But just be a bit patient and take it from the start with as few extra bits of kit til u get past post to the Bios.

975X Platinum Power-Up Edition audio woes

Greetings assorted bipeds.
I have:
MSI 975X Platinum Power-Up Edition
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
2xOCZ 800MHz RAM
ATI Radeon X1950 Pro
Etc
My audio however is always spotty. It tends to have pops in it, as if someone were making popcorn right next to me all the time... I've tried plugging into the back audio ports (integrated into the mobo) as well as the front ones. I've also tried using my headset, so it's not the speakers. I've tried downloading the newest drivers for the audio, and tried different audio codecs, to no effect.
So I'm perplexed. Short of replacing the motherboard, I don't know what else I can swap out to see what the problem is... Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm already on the Intel controller.
I flashed my BIOS but afterwards it didn't detect my RAID 0, which isn't good thing, as I like my Windows partition and what's on it... I re-flashed it back to the old one, and now the RAID is detected. Is this common, or did I do something wrong? I'd rather not have to repartition and reinstall XP...

975x platinum power up edition

Hello guys! I need new memory for my MSI 975x platinum power up edition motherboard, i have 2gb ddrII corsair on 533 from before, but i want to upgrade to faster and now 4gb. Wich can you guys recommend that would be stable and work great on this motherboard?. And also can i put a INTEL E8400 CORE2D 3.0GHZ 1333/6M S775 processor on my MSI 975x PU platunim edition and it will run good?? Thnx.

4 GB of memory should be no problem. The best thing would be to go for 2 x 2GB modules. Do not buy anything faster than DDR2-800 and make sure the memory you buy is able to operate @DDR2-800 @1.8V. DDR2-800 modules will be recognized as DDR2-667 because of chipset limitations, however, you can manuall increase the frequency to DDR2-800. Avoid OCZ Modules as there have been numerous compatibility problems.

45n processors and FSB-1333-CPUs are not supported on this mainboard. Check the CPU Support list here for upgrade options:

MSI 975X PLATINUM POWER UP EDITION

today is january 23rd, 2010
i just bought the msi 975x platinum power up edition in new york, from a store that was going out of business, but i am having problems because this does not power on.
i am using brand new and tested functioning: thermaltake tr2 430w psu, intel core 2 duo 2.66GHz fsb 1066, and also tried a celeron d 2.66GHz fsb 533, 1x corsair 1gb stick 800 mhz, nvidia 7 series pci express vga card, connected to a test ctr monitor AOC 5en.
i connected the 24 pin atx main connector, the 8 pin connector that powers on the cpu and also the peripheral connector that powers the pci express, and all i got was the heatsink fan spinning, but nothing appears on my screen (all is black).
i hope somebody can help me, because now the store where i bought it has closed, and i dont know how to get a warranty from MSI since i dont understand their RMA policy.

I am not sure that I understood what you mean, but it is nothing unusual that an older board/chipset will not support the latest processor models. And this has nothing to do with the board manufacturer.

What is so hard about digging up a supported processor? I mean, all you have to do is to decide which model you want to get (an E6600 would be a great choice for this board) and then buy it. You will probably be able to get a great deal on a used one on E-Bay.

Power mac G5 turns on but will not boot up

Hello,
I have the last power mac G5 quad core made before apple switched over to intel. I have not used he computer in about 3 month and it worked fine when I put it into storage but when I tried to turn it on today it will not boot up.
There is constantly a yellow light on near to where the RAM snaps in even when the computer is off. (this is the 3rd light up from the bottom and the only on that is on at this point)
When I press the power button a red light turns on for about one second. Next to this light are the words LED806 Checkstop and it is offset to the right of the other lights a little bit when looking into the side panel of the computer. This light also lights up briefly when I press the power button to turn off the computer.
After pressing the power button another red light turns on just above the yellow light that is always on and the screen is still black. Then the screen eventually turns grey with the apple logo as it normally looks except some of the pixels are off colored a bit in square patterns across the screen. When this happens a green light turns on just below the yellow light. Now there are three lights on all at once.
Next the screen briefly turns light blue and then a little darker shade of blue and the computer will not boot up or go any further than this point.
Can anybody tell me what is going on here and is there any way to fix this?
Is there any way to reset or reboot the computer this the install disk?

Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...

Power failure during application update, computer will not boot now

Help. I was in the middle of loading a system update when I shut the power off. Now my MacBook Pro does not boot and only has an error message when I power up. I have read some forum topics on downloading a stand alone installer to fix and another on using my leopard install disk\utilities to "restore from time machine".
Has anyone lived through this kind of problem. Any advise would be appreciated.

You mean you forced the computer off with the power button?
When you say the middle of loading a system update, what do you mean? Downloading it, installing it??

You need to boot into the Leopard DVD by inserting the DVD, rebooting and holding down the "C" key. After the language screen, in the menu, top left, under Utilities, run disk utility and repair HD and permissions.
That's the first step.
If that does not work, boot into the safe mode by holding down the shift key on boot. If you get to the login screen, you are probably in good shape - just click restart and let the system reboot normally.

hard to say, but you can determinate yourself, by checking compatibility and requirements:
think it will fit but I'm worry about to close range/distance and big heatstick to the CPU socket. make measurement and determinate will fit or not.if its a problem, he can be replaced and then zalman can fit. read more about link below.

975X Platinum Power Up Edition BIOS 719 now on MSI FTP

Hi all. Just looked and MSI has posted bios version 719 on their FTP dated 8/31/2006. If you have the access for it then head there now under directory 7246.
Download from mirror in post below or from Pulled due to buggy release!
Let's hear some results as to how this puppy does.

Well, that just goes to show you. MSI seems to be having a hard time getting it right. You would think that if these problems are showing on customers mobos then the same would show up on their test mobo. But yet they still release these things to the public. Makes no sense.

hey, i hear this requires a bios update to make the quad core work is this true?

Go to bios, disable boot spalsh screen and you will get your boot messages including what bios version, memory configuration, (should be in dual mode) etc

Well I got my board setup everything is fine except I cant install sata/raid driver for intel during f6 install. I copied the appropriot files to a formatted floppy and when it says insert 3.5 floppy into drive A: I insert and press enter it says please wait then goes back to insert floppy into drive A: page. ALmost like it doesnt even read the floppy drive. I have tried 2 different floppy drives and three different disks with the same results. Did anyone else have trouble installing f6 floppy intel raid/sata drivers during windows install? Can I just set up raid 0 and install windows or do I have to install ICH7R intel raid driver during windows isntall? This is a really annoying problem as windows will not see my harddrives without this driver installed. If somone with raid setup could show me their bios settings I would appreciate it.

Well my floppy drive def works becuase Im flashing bios right now(I'm typing on my laptop).
I didn't recieve a floppy disk with my board so I had to copy files off of MSI disk. Here is what I have done thus far in chronological order.

Tech support sent me a bios update file titled 7246 v715. If I'm not mistaken this would be the latest one. Well I extracted contents too floppy but when I got into dos it said blinking... source file not found. SO I restarted. And Im gonna try flashing 714 now.
