975X Power Up CPU Fan issue

Hi,
Just got me a shiny new Power Up and an Intel Core Duo 6400. System is up and running and stable, but the CPU fan is constantly spinning at full tilt.
Dual Core Cell shows the CPU temp at 45C idle, which is at least 10 degrees over what I was expecting. More annoyingly is the fact the dual core center is not allowing me to control the fan speed. I can make chnages to the fan speed control, but the 'apply' button is greyed out. On the FSB side, the 'apply' button is not greyed out.
There must be something wrong somewhere? I'm using the latest offcial BIOS and Dual Core Center. Power supply is 600W.
I also tried using my Zalman 9500LED and again, that was permanently fixed at full fan speed. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, please let me know. Even with the Zalman, full tilt is far too noisy in the quiet room where my PC is based.
Thanks,
czrsiNk

  • Dv7-2185dx Power supply and Fan issues

A little while ago, my fan started making ridiculously loud noises under normal operating.  It sounded as though it was possibly grinding on something, and as my notebook's warranty expired some number of months ago, I decided to take it apart myself and try to diagnose it.
In the taking apart process, a bit of an issue happened, and long story short, two cables got pulled from their white jack head.  It was part of the power supply ( hp spare part # 536857-001), that had two parts that went into the system board, the top of which had a six pin jack head, and the bottom of which had a two pin jack head (with a red and black cable.  When I searched online for replacements, they only seemed to have the top half of the power cable, and not these other two mysterious wires.
After trying to set the wires back in and putting the computer back together, I managed to boot the machine up with essentially no problems.  However, this only lasted a short time in testing, because when I moved the computer back 10 feet to my room from the table I was working on, the screen would no longer power on.  So I began re taking apart the computer, and found out that the computer will still power on without those two wires in, but the screen appears to be completely off.  Not even just the back light failing, but the screen seemed to be completely off.
So this leaves me with a few questions that hopefully someone can answer.
    1)  What on earth do these two wires do or power?
    2)  What is the best way to repair the wire?
    3)  I'm pretty sure that the red wire is on the left side and the black wire on the right side, but can anyone confirm that?
    4)  Has anyone had any similar issues with the fan?  I'm assuming I'm going to have to replace it, but I don't really know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew Nickolai
(photos incoming as soon as I can find a cable to connect my camera to my computer)

What is the real name to that part??? except my laptop is the dv7-2180us but i think our plugs are probably similar. Mine has a short and I tried to order it but ended up only getting the bigger plug instead of both of them. The part number you listed was the one that I ordered but its not the one that goes in my laptop. The pre sales support told me to speak to a technician but since mine is no longer in warrenty I have to call and more then likely they'll charge me or ill get some person I cant understand.

  • Msi 975x Power up edition Overclocking issue

I have a E6300 with Ocz Platium XTC pc6400 ddr2-800 memory, and i tryed to overclock the cpu. I tried different voltage on the cpu i can reach 333fsb and i can enter windows and its stable inthere, but when i restart my computer it shutdown and i need to clear bios. My memory is putted at 1:1 ratio. Ive tryed my memory to 400mhz and it worked fine. Maybe im doing something wrong , desactiveted Spread Spectrum and smart fan, but the heat is at 44c idle at 333fsb, not the heat, memory problem. Is that board just cant reach more then 333fsb ?

Quote from: Vaniireq on 28-January-07, 08:29:43
To start overclocking with your cpu, I would probably start with this:
Set your cpu frequency to 333 (FSB)
Set your Cpu voltage to 1.370V
    Mem clock to 1:1
Bump your mem voltage to 2.1
memory set it to something like 5-5-5-15
If you can safely boot into windows and restart with no problems at 333 FSB..
Raise your FSB up to 340 and try that...
If you are having restart problems at 340 FSB, borrow a stick of different DDR2 from a friend and see if you can reboot with it, this way you can see if its your memory that is causing the reboot problem..
The problem im having is different, i can boot into windows at 400fsb, but when im restarting my computer it restart but when it reboot it go to black screen, mean something wrong there, i need to reset bios. Right now i am at 300fsb and memory at 376mhz with 5-5-5-13 timing, all is stable. But i cant put the fsb at 376 with ratio 1:1 memory. I doubt its my memory because im running them at 376mhz right now stable.

  • HP PRO 3400 Series desktop won't boot CPU fan starts and stops , no video, no beeps

I have the above computer with an i3-2125 CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and a 300GB Seagate Hard drive.  I've had it for about 2 years and been working fine. It started acting up about 2 months ago.  It would lose the date and time.  I checked the battery, and it was OK, so I kept using the computer.  Then on 9/15/2014 it hung on "Starting Windows", I did the following:
    1.  Ran the built in HP diagnostic on hard drive and memory and they both passed.
    2.  Tried to go to last known good configuration and nothing happened.
    3.  Noticed the date and time were off, replaced the battery, nothing changed.
    4.  Tried another hard drive from another HP PRO 3400 Series and it would boot up but could not set date in bios.
    5.  Tried all kinds of things but could not set date in bios.
          a.  Bios date read 48/00/0048 after removing and replacing battery.
b,  Tried to reset date to 9/16/2914 and it gets 56/00/0051
    6.  Then it wouldn't boot at all.   So now when you turn on the power, the CPU fan starts and runs for about 1 second, then shuts off for 4 seconds, then starts and runs for another 1 sec and it does this continuously.  There is  no video and no beeps and no difference when all memory is removed.
    7.  I removed the power supply, and checked voltages.  It appears to be OK.
    8.  I removed the motherboard, and inspected it- saw nothing obvious.
    9.  I connected the power supply to the motherboard with nothing else connected to the motherboard, and I get the same thing.  CPU fan starts then stops continuously, no video no beeps.
    10.  I am thinking it is the Motherboard, but I sure could use some suggestions as to what to do next.
    Thanks

  • Qosmio G40 cooling fan issue

Hello every body i'm the international student bought G40. I had it about nearlly half year.
I recentlly found there is problem with my G40,i usually carry my G40 to library or to my friend place, once i took G40 out of the bag and put on desk and power on,CPU fan appears nosiy.
It's kind like frame of cooling fan is changed on the move but it will gone in a very short time, around 2 or 3 mins.
As far as i know fan it's working perfect, just when I take it to somewhere else and put it out and it appears like this.
Anybody found this before, does anybody has idea what's going on with my G40?

Hi, for the first day ...i have writing ,because i dont know if the fan noise have been resolved for all the time!!! It's take near 1 1/2 hour to my TSC technician to do the job! I have waiting him !
I will tell u in the future if the problem come back! At stating, now, the noise is reduced near the normal level for the 2 to 3 first minutes, and to normal level after.
    Greetings!

  • CPU Fan Has Failed! PC will automatically power down

CPU Fan Has Failed! PC will automatically power down
HP Pavilion Slimline s3714uk Desktop PC, running windows 7.
I started to get CPU fan failure message  and the PC would not boot, I opened up the case and the CPU fan seems to be connected and working.
Error message is “"ERROR: CPU Fan Has Failed! PC will automatically power down in a few seconds. Service the PC immediately to prevent damage to the PC."
I have found the following advice:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00013522&cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3876701
However the bios version I have does not have the option to switch off the fan monitor. How can I fix this issue please: many thanks

Hi Susielee.  what was the heat sink and cpu fan that the tech installed in your HP computer?  I got a used HP s5120y computer from a longtime friend that is missing a processor fan but the heatsink is there.
update 2/14: never mind, my old friend forgot to give me the CPU fan, which he did a few days ago.  I used a flashlight to check if the fan is working and it is but I'm still getting "CPU fan has failed" error everytime I power on the computer but the cpu fan spins okay at normal speed.  replacing the cmos battery did nothing to solve the problem.
I will either replace the whole heatsink & fan before I will consider replacing the motherboard, which seem to have a least 1 ruptured capacitor on the board - that indicates some parts of the motherboard are starting to fail, like the fan sensors.  The HP part number of the board printed on a sticker in the HP slimline S5120Y computer is "513426-001"
So in short replace the heatsink & fan assembly first.  Then replace either the power supply and chassis fans.  If those don't fix the CPU fan failed message at bootup, replace the whole motherboard.

  • Power cables are clogging my CPU fan!

    Hey all.
    I just upgraded my MEGA 865 from a GeForce4 MX to a GeForce 6600GT(mmmmm.....GT.....)
Anyway, all is going well so far except for 1 thing.
the trusty GF4MX was a small-ish card, and the thick wadge of power cables coming out of the PSU just came around the top of it. The GF6600 however is 'full-sized' There is no room alongside it for the 'snake', so i had to push all the cable under the PSU. This seemed fine, PC started up, Graphics card was working fine etc... Then i cranked up SpeedFan to check out my temps, and saw that Fan1 had 0 RPMs. Pulled the computer to bits again and tried to the cables around the CPU fan, but no luck.
Can anyone help me? I don't want a molten CPU!
(strangely enough, the CPU temp has actually only gone up by a few degrees compared to before, but i would still like to have the fan going).

    what is fan 1?
are all the fans running that you can see of?
It isnt surprising the temp has increased, the newer video cards put out more heat, thus the internal temp of the box will be hotter.
also the bigger card will restrict air flow too....
Is your PC locking up? it will lock up way before anything melts.
I would use the system as is and if you have frezzing, blue screens of death, then investigate the fan problem furthur.

  • X230 CPU performance issue on AC power without battery

    Dear Lenovo & Community Members,
I've recently received my X230 (model no.: 2320-24B), and discovered an issue related to the CPU performance of X230 on AC power. To make the long story short, my X230 is not running at full performance on AC power with battery detached. Accordingly, the X230 was shipped with setting at "Maximum Performance" under "Intel Speed Step" in BIOS by default on AC power.
    Full Story:
My notebook is X230 (model 2320-24B) which comes with Ivy Bridge i7-3520M. I have a habit to detach the battery when it was fully charged, as I want to reduce the battery aging and my job does not always require me to work on the go. And by accident, I've discovered that X230 performs differently on AC power with and without battery. To be more precise, when my X230 runs on AC power with battery detached, it runs as slow as my Sandy Bridge i3-2100 desktop, which sounds very weird to me for a notebook costing me more than $1000.
Accordingly, I've benchmarked my X230 and here are the results, both with BIOS setting to "Maximum Performance" under AC Power:
AC power, without battery - WEI CPU Score: 4.9, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~1,900kb/s, CPU @ 1.189Ghz on load
AC power, with battery - WEI CPU Score: 7.2, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~4,000kb/s, CPU @ 3.6GHz on load
On battery power - WEI CPU: 7.2, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~4,000kb/s, CPU @ 3.6GHz on load
Based on my tests, I’ve found that X230 is only performing at maximum performance when attached with its battery, and it is underperforming at its lowest clock speed when not being attached with the battery.
    Conclusion:
I would like to ask if other owners of X230 in this community have the same problem (and are able to repeat my findings). I'm quite disappointed to find that my X230 is running even slower than my i3-2100 desktop, and it simply doesn't make sense for a notebook with removable battery yet unable to run at full performance without battery. I demand Lenovo to address this issue.
    - Joseph (PhD Information Systems)
Edit: I'm already running the latest BIOS 1.12
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi slkong, welcome to the forum,
allow me to assume that you have the 65W AC power supply.  If this is the case in order to reach full CPU performance you do need to have the battery attached, there are several threads on this within the boards concerning different systems and also this Knowledgebase article.
Hope this explains the situation for you.

  • ACK Issues! Long Bootup and roaring CPU fan!!

    Hi all,
    Two issues...
My 2 yr old iMac takes anywhere from 3-8 minutes to bootup. I get this grey screen with a circle and line through it. Then it boots to the normal desktop. LONG time..?
Secondly, the CPU fan roars all the time. It's pretty loud. I've used compressed air on the vent in back, but to no avail.
    I'm running Tiger, 10.4.11. iLife 09
I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Leopard or Snow Leopard.... Would this help? Can I upgrade straight to Snow Leopard? Or do I need to go step by step through Leopard then Snow? LAME if I do..
    Any other suggestions?
    Thank you SO much!!
    Jay.

    Hi Jay,
I get this grey screen with a circle and line through it. Then it boots to the normal desktop.
    Most likely Hard Disk problems.
Have you booted off the Install Disk by holding the *d key* down at boot-up, (not the c key), and run the extended Apple HW Test? Some Install disks require holding the Option key at bootup to select the AHT. Some Macs came with separate AHT CDs.
Secondly, the CPU fan roars all the time.

I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Leopard or Snow Leopard.
    I wouldn't just yet.
    Any other suggestions?
    http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...

Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

My i7 is from batch week 46 and so far ive had problems with BLACK OUT screen but CPU/fans are still running. All i can do at that point is just press and hold down power button to shut down CPU. When i start it back up, its as if nothing happened. This has happened to me twice now and only had it for couple weeks. Received my i7 on the 26th of NOV/09! Can anyone help me come up with a solution?

  • Internet Connectivity Issues, 511 CPU Fan not detected

    Hello,
I have been experiencing some issues with my HP ENVY Pohenix 800-060 (running Windows 8.1) PC lately.
My internet connectivity has been acting crazy. Pages won't load fully. For example, when I am on Facebook I can't scroll down and have more posts load. I have to hit refresh and sometimes it will let me scroll down further than before. To load sites sometimes I have to hit refresh. If I am using just the wifi I am constantly connecting and disconnecting at totally random intervals but it's stable if I use an ethernet cable (however the other issues still persist). Images won't load fully as seen here
Also, starting yesterday when I restart my computer I get an error message that says 511 CPU fan not detected. I have opened my computer and dusted the fan and I have also unplugged it and plugged it back in to the motherboard to make sure it's securely connected. What's strange is that this only happens about 8 out of 10 times when I start my computer, and if it does happen I can simply touch the fan to get it started and it will work just fine until I turn my computer off.
I noticed in the HP Support Assistant that if you update to Windows 8.1 it says that you may experience internet connectivity loss and hardware problems so I don't know if these problems are related or not. I have checked and my drivers are up to date according to the HP website that searches for updates for you.
I am currently backing up my computer and plan on resetting it to factory default if I can't find the source of these problems.

    Eldrscrolls, welcome to the forum.
Please check the CPU fan thoroughly before using the computer futher.  If it has failed you could fry the components.  I don't know if it has liquid cooling, but if so, be extremely careful.
A System Recovery is a very good idea.  After updating Win 8.0 to 8.1 on my HP Split, I had several problems, such as, wireless connectivity.  I did the Recovery back to Win 8.0.  It solved my problems.  After a few days I gave Win 8.1 another chance.  It has performed admirably.  If the system is overheating because the CPU fan failed this could cause your problems, also.

4- My HP Notebook support running BlueRay drive. It appears HP part # 665329-001 has replaced 641824-001
The drive part number is presently 665329-001 found HERE
    However, I found that mydvddrives.com doesn't have a
However, as long as that site 'mydvddrives.com' is not 98% positive feedback. and doesn't have money refund guarantee. Also, since I don't find internal BlueRay drive in my own HP agent in Yemen. Thus, I had to look for 'TheHP-Compaq 665329-001 SATA Blu-ray BD-R/RE Drive, ' in ebay.com. But, zero results resulted in researching, although there are some other ones. I think that my search withTheHP-Compaq 665329-001 SATA Blu-ray BD-R/RE Drive is correct as long as that part number was sugggested by that HP agent.
Moreover, When looking for 'HP-Compaq 665329-001 SATA Blu-ray BD-R/RE Drive' at amazon.com, I foundHIGHDING SATA Blu-ray BD-R/RE Drive Burner Writer Replacement for HP-Compaq 595761-001/665329-001/59... . However, there isHIGHDING in the name of blueray, which I don't know what is?
However, I, myself, don't know if any BlueRay drive, other than that its part number is665329-001 can be working/compatible with my laptop or there is a specific part number of BlueRay must be purchased in order to work on my laptop well.
Thus, could you please let me know if any BlueRay other than that one TheHP-Compaq 665329-001 SATA Blu-ray BD-R/RE Drive can be compatible with my laptop or not??

Could anyone take some of his precious time out and reply to me?

  • X48C with Core 2 Quad CPU - power connector for fan

New at this. First build. So please treat me gently.
The CPU fan's power selector is clearly marked on the X48C (3 pins). The CPU fan's power lead is obvious (4 pins).
What would you gurus recommend I do?

You are so right. I was trying to plug it into the sys fan. Newbie error. Many thanks for the gentle nudge in the right direction.

  • Connet cpu fan power to m/b or psu?

    Hi,
finally my new computer case and thermaltake volcano 9 came this mornig.
I have a question about the power connection since I found a big connector (same as HDD's) which is used to connect to psu directily. I have K7N2G-ILSR M/B. should I plug my volcano 9 on the M/B or on the psu 12v connectoer?
Below is info about vocalno 9:
    P/N A1365
    Cooler Dimension 80x80x77.3 mm
    Fan Dimension 80x80x25 mm
    Rated Voltage 12VDC
    Started Voltage 6VDC
    Rated Current  0.20AMP ~ 0.70AMP
    Power Input 2.40W ~ 8.40W
Max. Air Flow 20.55 CFM at 1300 rpm
     75.7 CFM at 4800 rpm
    Air Pressure 1.45mmH2O at 1300rpm
      8.43mmH2O at 4800rpm
Noise 17 dB at 1300 rpm
      48 dB at 4800 rpm
    Bearing Type Two Ball Bearing
    Life Time  50,000 hours
    Connector 3 PIN
    Tt Fan grille TR=0.38C/W

to the psu,if it does not have a seperate single wire speed sensor to plug in boards socket disable cpu fan detection in the bios, plug a case fan in there for first boot as it might not boot if it senses no cpu fan
big fan like that would pull to many watts and just burn out fan header

  • CPU fan speed too slow Core 2 Duo on 975x platinum

This is my first attempt at building a computer and things went good except for the CPU fan.  The CPU, according to BIOS, seems too hot, idling at around 38 to 40c and loaded at around 45+ but I haven't used it hard yet.  The fan speed when controlled by the mobo is only about 800 to 900 rpm when idling.  I turned off the mobo control and the fan went to 1700.  Surely this thing can turn faster than that, is there something I'm missing here.  I really don't want to buy a different fan if this one will work.  Noise is not a problem for me I just don't want to run the CPU that hot.  Help!
    Thanks,
    Jason

Intel Core2Duo is using Thermal Throttling Technology,or in this case TM2 (Thermal Monitor 2) . This is the main part of Intel SpeedStep Technology. It can decrease the multiplier on a CPU and decrease the CPU voltage (vcore), thus lowering temps but reducing the clock speed of the CPU. This is only activated when a small amount of processing power of the CPU is actually required. Here you are some temperature specs for Core2Duo
    Thermal specification:61.4°C
    Thermal Design Power:65W
The thermal specification shown is the maximum case temperature at the maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) value for the processor. So, you have a normal temperatures for the processor, and you'll have to get used to that low noise
