975X Powerup and a PCI or PCI-E SATA Controller

Hi,
I have MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp-Edition (MS-7246 v.2.1) and have filled the 4 SATA ports on the main board so I want to add another controller.  I bought an Adaptec 1430sa PCI-E controller card to add four more drives but the motherboard and Windows aren't finding it.  I also then bought a PCI controller card and am having the same problem.
HELP!!!!
BIOS: 7.7
Intel E6600 2.4
2 GB DDR800
X1950XT 256mb RADEON 16x

Quote
MSI Tech. 01/03/2008 This is normal since the mb already has 2 raid controllers which will not have room to support a 3rd controller card.
Have your tried other BIOS-Versions than 7.7? If not, it may be worth testing BIOS v7.16 BETA.  It is one of the best BIOS releases for this mainboard.
v7.2x BIOS versions introduced a problem which forced users to disable the JMicron controller in BIOS to be able to get Intel RAID working on this mainboard. I am not sure if this problem was ever entirely fixed.  A few users reported that the problem did not appear with 7.6x BIOS releases, but there wasn't really much official information in the BIOS changelogs.
Your issue and the Intel + JMicron - problem may be related.  I don't know that for sure, but if you feel like testing a different BIOS Version and are aware of the risks of flashing a different BIOS, I suggest, you try v7.1b6.  You can find it here (1st post):

  • PCI ATA 133 RAID Card VS. PCI ATA 133 Controller Card

    Hello,
I just bought a 300gb HD to put into my QS. I know I need to add another ATA card, but I noticed in stores there is a PCI ATA 133 RAID and a PCI ATA 133 Controller card.
What is the difference? The ATA 133 Raid card I saw is considerably cheaper. Can I use it to run my 300Gb drive as my startup drive (iDVD issues!)?
    Thanks for your help.

Additional question: I have seen that there are a number of issues with SATA II drives in the early G5. Can you recommend a drive in the 500 GB range that would work well in the Dual 1.8 GHz? A SATA II would be a good option for the future... Thanks!

  • K9A Platinum with PCI VIA 6421A SATA Controller

Hi everyone, I have a problem, I was using a VT6421A VIA Sata Controller with K9A Platinum FW 1.1 without any problems, I upgraded to 4 GB of RAM with Vista x64 then flashed the motherboard 1.7 firmware, mother recognizes full 4 GB of Ram. After upgrade firmware to 1.7, PCI VIA Sata controller doesn't recognizes both Pioneer 112D attached to it, before firmware update it was working perfectly.
I'm using RAID configuration in the motherboard, could be a problem betwen the motherboard's RAID and the VIA SATA Raid controller?
Since the upgrade to 1.7 firmware, POST doesn't show the VIA Controller menu with the attached devices, Windows Vista can see the card installed but no drives attached to it  :(
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english.

Thanks for your reply, can you tell me how can I enable or disable memory remapping from the Setup?
Where can I find it in K9A Platinum? is something that looks like HW/SW Memory Mapping or how it's called that option?
Is it possible to get a screenshot of where i can change it??
    Thanks a lot!
"can you tell me how can I enable or disable memory remapping from the Setup?  is something that looks like HW/SW Memory Mapping or how it's called that option?"
Yes name of option is correct, but think its not available in BIOS if im correct.
Can you test with 2GB of memory only to see if the problem will be duplicated there too?

  • 975X and a PCI Controller Card

I am trying to install another SATA controller card to I can flash my firmware on my 360. But for what ever reason this board (975X) isn't allowing me to ever boot to the PCI card.
Any ideas on what settings I need to pick to do it?
    Thanks!

I think I have tried that and nothing worked. The card is seen in Windows but just not while booting. I'll try it again here once my computer is done doing some things to where I can reboot. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right and it sounds like I am.

  • Audigy Platinum and 56K PCI modem confl

I have had modem connection problems so I reformatted the hard dri've and reloaded the OS to get a clean start. Now, I have a conflict with the Audigy Platinum and 56K PCI modem. The sound card works great until I dial-out on the modem - at that point there is either no sound or a high-pitched tone is heard when a sound is played. Also, if I am activly connected to the internet and play a sound, the connection will drop and the modem will refuse to reconnect with various errors (no dial tone or port already open). The only way to reset the sound card and modem is to reboot. If I disable the Audigy card under device manager, the modem works great - connects and reconnects fine. BTW, this is the third PCI modem I have tried, all by different manufactures and chipsets, so I don't think it is a modem problem.
Some system specs:XP Home SP 2Audigy Platinum with the latest production drivers availableUS Robotics 56K PCI modem model #5660AAsus A7N8X deluxe motherboard with on-board sound disabled
The Audigy card is installed in a PCI slot that is not shared, also the Audigy card is using IRQ 5 and the modem is on IRQ using COMM port 3. Everything looks fine under Device Manager (no unknown devices or devices with errors). MSINFO32 shows no device conflicts.
Has anyone seen this before? Any workarounds? Any idea why the Audigy card would conflict with the modem like this?
    Thanks,Terry C.

I updated the BIOS to the latest ASUS release, 008, and it seemed to resolve the problem.

  • Detect and employ PCI or PXI chassis

I'm currently on a project which has historically bee based around a PCI backplane (in a desktop PC) containing a couple of PCI-6229 cards and a PCI-7833R. This forms the core of a testrig of which there are about 25 instances worldwide. In addition, we also support many rigs which are cored around a NI PXI chassis.
There is a drive to replace the PCs and we have opted for a for smaller footprint unit having fewer PCI slots. These are being equipped with an MXI extender card to a PXI backplane. This means in future, we need only keeps spares in the PXI format. Supporting two sets of backplanes containing near-identical hardware without implementing two near-identical pieces of software does present its problems: The FPGA bitmap build for the PCI version of the card will not open through the reference type for the PXI version of the card. We need to have a PCI and a PXI version of the bitmap. Irritatingly, the source code for these two is identical.
The first part of the solution is to establish which backplane we're using. This is straightforward. Supplying the VISA Find Resource function with the appropriate search string will identify if any PXI backplanes are connected. (Figure 1.)
Next, we need to maintain references to both FPGA VIs. Figure 2 illustrates how the FPGA to be used can be opened and proposes a structure in which the references to all available FPGA types (this example actually has four FPGA bitmaps which might be selected). In each of the other cases, the appropriate bitmap is selected in the Open FPGA Reference VI. Further, in each case, the reference is wired to the appropriate component from the cluster. (For calibration records, we also find it necessary to return the serial number of the card, but that portion of this code can be ignored.) Notice that the FPGA_Type component of the cluster is used to control which bitmap loads and which Ref component is used to store its Reference. This is necessary because the reference types are different for each bitmap.
Having set FPGA_Type, Figure 3 shows how to employ the selected resource. A separate Read/Write Control must be coded for each FPGA type.
Closing the resource also requires a case for each FPGA type.
I hope anyone else planning a stepped migration between backplanes can make use of this.

To program any DAQ card for use in Linux you need to use Register Level Programming. Unfortunately, Register level programming for the counter/timer products based on the NI-TIO ASIC (includes the 660x boards) is not supported.

  • Is it possible to start a PCI4472 and a PCI-MIO-16E-1 simultaneously using an analog trigger (with pre-trigger)?

I would like to start several PCI 4472 and a PCI-MIO-16E-1 simultaneously. All boards are connected via a RTSI cable.
My program works fine if I use software trigger, or an analog trigger from a PCI4472 channel. However, the analog trigger works only when I set pre-trigger (or pre-scan) to 0.
Is it possible to start a PCI4472 and a PCI-MIO-16E-1 simultaneously using an analog trigger (with pre-trigger)?
    Thanks.

    Hi, Bill
I think it is possible to set more than 38 pre-trigger scans on a single 4472 card. I've done this before. You can verify this by running the Labview example "Acquire N - Multi-Analog Hardware Trig.vi" which comes with LabView.
What I try to do but without success/luck so far is to start data acquisitions of several 4472 cards and a PCI-MIO-16E-1 card using an anlog trigger (with pre-trigger).
    Thanks for your help.

  • Magma-box and DAQ PCI 6034E card

I had installed a magma-box (64-bit 2 Slot Series) on my laptop. And I installed NI-DAQ 7.1. Than I had plug the PCI-6034E card in the magma-box. My laptop identify the PCI-6034E daq card in the Device Manager; but with a yellow exclamation point and give the Error code 10 (Cannot start the device). The same used with the PCI-6377 card.
I have tried with the cards in the differend slots.

    Hey Wim,
I am not sure what a magma-box is. I have searched all over google and I haven't been able to find one. This brings up my next question of how you are installing a PCI-6034E and PCI-6377 on the laptop. National Instruments driver does not support this and I am pretty sure the DMA on the devices wouldn't work as well. The main difference between the PCMCIA devices National Instruments sell and the PCI devices is the DMA channels. If you need to use a laptop I would recommend purchasing the DAQCards or DAQPads that can connect to USB, Firewire, or PCMCIA slots. These devices are supported on laptops. The PCI devices are designed to work on desktop computers with standard PCI busses that allow for DMA channels and ISA based interrupts.
    I hope
    this helps out.

It probably won't work. Some USB PCI cards will work out of the box with OS X even though the manufacturers don't specifically support it. This ad does not list the card manufacturer or chipset so it's very difficult to tell much about it. Furthermore it states that to modify the settings it requires a Windows-based Utility. Unless the seller has a good return policy I wouldn't buy it.

  • Mac pro and motu PCIe audio card with a 2408mkIII

    mac pro and motu PCIe
i recently upgraded to the mac pro from a G5 and now my motu 2408 mkIII sound card does not work.
i installed the motu PCIe 424 pci card from motu and installed the latest UB drivers, followed the instructions to the letter, repeated numerous times in every pci e slot with only temporary luck. it worked briefly and then when the computer slept i lost the connection with the interface and have not been able to regain it.. yes i re-installed to the letter again. the pcie card is seen by the computer but it cannot seen the external rack mounted 2408 via the audiowire that connects it. yes i tried other cables. the unit worked fine on my G5.
i have heard of others with the same problem after updating the firmware to SMC 1.7. my mac pro came with the latest firmware.

To my surprise I had five software updates waiting for me. Among them Pro App update, two of them, and this SMC update. After I updated my MOTU PCI-424 audio interface no longer works. Tried installing MOTU drivers again, still nothing. It can't communicate with its audio interfaces. So right now, this amazing update from Apple stopped me from working, and I am on a pretty tight deadline. I hope I'll find a solution ASAP

  • 975X PowerUp - Possible to use Intel Raid and JMicron Controller?

    Hi,
as you can see I've got an MSI 975X PowerUp Edition with Bios 7.7.
Because of many problems I had with earlier Bios version I've got completely disabled the JMicron controller in the Bios.
I'm running 4 HDDs at the Intel controller while using 2x Raid0.
Is it now possible to use the JMicron at the same time?
I would like to add a fifth SATA HDD at the JMicron controller and aybe an old IDE HDD also on the JMicron controller. So, is it possible?

    Sorry, didn't found that thread.
I've tried it now with an fifth Sata HDD, works perfekly until now. I'm formating the new HDD at the moment...
What's the best way to shut down the Intel controller WITHOUT the risk of loosing data?
I want that oly the new HDD is detected so I can use her for testing purposes...
If only for testing purposes, why did you leave raid connected........? Especially, if planning to alter boot sequence......
I turn off computer and unplug disks, when I am doing testing of HD's......... that way data is safe. You have to setup bios again after testing but only takes a few mins or 10 mins if you have written down settings

  • Firewire and USB PCI Upgrade for PowerMac G5

Firewire and USB PCI Upgrade for PowerMac G5
I am looking to add more Firewire 400 and USB 2.0 ports to my Dual 2.7 PowerMac G5. I don't need a combo card (two separate cards is fine). I was wondering which brand card works well with my Mac and OS X. I had a FireWire card that I moved from my Dell to my PowerMac but had a number of problems with a couple connected HDD's and Final Cut Pro. The card which I think was from Belkin was listed as OS X compatible on its packaging.
    Thanks for any guidance.

Check out OWC/Macsales. Usually can't go wrong with Sonnet or an OWC "house branded".

Check out user reports for PCI G5 Compatibility
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com
I've used OWC FW800, Aaxeon PCIe, and a number of Sonnet USB2 (and combo).
Depends on how many USB2 ports, but for FW400 and USB2 combo should do fine. With FW800 I'd go for independent cards.

I bought a MSI Z77A-G43 and 1st PCIE (3.0 I guess) slot doesn't work? I mean when I put my gf card in it , my screen wont start. BUt when I put it to other blue Pcie (2.0 I guess) it works. What will be the reason? Do I need to do anything in bios ?

I had a similar situation recently.
1.) Check the cpu/ socket for damage
2.) Remove the mobo and make sure there are no extra stand off's under the board.
3.) Check the pci/e slot for obstruciton or debris
Other than that it's probably going to be an rma issue.
