975x PowerUP with four memory banks filled

I'm planning to purchase another two G.Skill memory sticks, and I want to know if anyone have had problems installing four memory banks, and if this has limited in any way the board's overclocking (I don't want to step down from 3 Ghz...)
Thank you.

I should have an answer for you in about a week when I have my 2 kits of Mushkin 2048 MB, XP2-6400, 4-4-3-10 Dual Pack (2x 1024 MB) 996523. The Mushkin support team guy told me that I would be able to reach 850Mhz or higher with that memory because they have Micron D9 chips, so I hope he's right about that
I know there not G. Skill, but the ProMos chips on those modules aren't bad overclockers either.
I know that my 4 x 1GB GEIL PC2-6400UDC modules are crappy overclockers because they have lousy memory chips...

  • P45 Platinum won't POST with full memory banks

I have 4 identical 2GB DDR2-800 modules. If I install 2 the system runs fine. If I install 4 the system will not POST, hangs with the memory code. I am replacing an old P35 Platinum that had exactly the same problem (though I was using 1GB modules with that instead of these 2GB modules). 2 modules fine. It doesn't matter which 2. 4 modules bad. Won't POST. Is there some setting that prevents you from using both banks unless you change it?

They are PNY Optima. I am running them at the default timings (I think the default is for BIOS to handle it itself with SPD). I probably wasn't clear before but both modules are installed in the same bank (both in orange or both in green). I just can't fill more than one bank and get it to POST. These modules all work fine independently. There is some board/BIOS issue that is not allowing me to use both banks. I had the same exact problem with my P35 Platinum with different modules. I could run one pair, but not two pair.

  • HT1688 HELP! My Iphone4 is filling up with unknown memory

My iphone is filling up with unknown memory. If a delete an app or photos the unknown memory will take up that free space as well. This is my second iphone to do this. My computer has no viruses and I have reset my phone. The only thing i can think of that might have something to do with it is my SIM card.

    Thank You for responding,
I didn't think SIM cards had to do with it either, but that's all I could come up with. Yes I have restored my phone as a new device. I didn't put any music or ringtones on it. After a few weeks it start filling up again. I clean my phone daily (deleting messages, clearing history, cookies, ect.) If it is corruption, then how did my previous iphone and this iphone have the same problem? Some days it will show I have free memory but most of the time it is showing full. The only way I can take pictures is through Facebook.....
With my previous iphone I had apple support on the phone and on my computer trying to figure out the problem. Everything they instructed me to do would fix the problem (temporarily)  Eventually they sent me another iphone4, the one I have now. I set it up as a new device, it was fine for about 2months. Now it is doing the same thing.....

  • Two vs: Four Memory lane useage.

With a 32bit system we know that up to 4gb is max and the system will only recognise 3+. Is it better to install 2x2gb sticks using only two lanes or is it more effecient to use ALL four lanes with 1gb in each, using the processors two memory processing banks?
Additionaly, does 2gb outperform 4gb in a 32bit system because of not dealing with the unuseable memory out of 4gb?
Curious of your answer, I am currently using only 2x1gb and running great.
    Thanks

Using a Forum is new to me and the answers make Forums worthwhile!
As I stated I have only 2gb and am running fine. One of my Friends says all four slots out performs two slots with the same amount of memory, so I did research and came up with your answers, it's better to have 2gb utilizing all vs: 4gb on a 32bit OP system and have almost 1gb as unseen (unused)memory. Theory that the unused memory is a cog in the wheel that the system is constantly trying to ulilize and can't. Your responces leave me with 2gb as the way to stay until upgrading to 64bit system, which is a good suggestion.
So since I just setup a 790FX-GD70 I am going to order 1600 (pc12800) better OC Capable memory until the decission of 64bit in Windows 7 or Vista.
Some spec. reports state up to 4gb (using 3+) on 32bit and others experss no more than 2gb for better performance. I wonder why memory mfgrs don't make 1.5gb sticks for 32bit systems? Seems that would be the best answer to utilizing ram better even though 2gb should handle everything. After all that, do many of common programs make use of "Both" processor memory banks?
    Thanks for responding.

  • Core2Quad Q6600 on MSI 975X PowerUp Edition problem

Hello. I have a problem that is bugging me for about one month.
I have this configuration with an Intel Core2Quad Q6600 on a MSI 975X PowerUp Edition mainboard, with 4G Ram memory from Kingmax (4x1G DDRII 800 MHz) <The mainboard has the latest bios version 7.7>. I am running on Windows Vista x64 OS and I always get a blue screen after a nonequal period of time. I have remarked that usually it happens when running a media file (e.g. movie, DVD, play mp3) and downloading something from the internet. If I only do one type of operation at a time nothing happens, but if I do both types in the same time... in crashes. I can't figure out what may be the problem I've ran 32 memtests (one with v1.70 and one with v3.4) on each memory on each slot (4 memories x 4 slots) and got no errors. Of course than I ran one single test with both versions of memtest with the full 4G installed and got a lot of errors only on test 8 of them (regardless of the relevancy of 4G on a memtest that is on 32bit).
I also gave a memory test from the Windows Vista x64 DVD and the system hangs at 37% for hours. I checked the HDD and has no problem.... Now I don't know what else to test anymore in order to see what may be the problem. Is it somehow a problem from the processor?, any incompatibility in the system?
I saw that when making the regular updates for windows, on one particular update the system crashes giving me the same BSOD that bugs me (note thet the system does this problem imediatly after a clean install with no updates, and after the updates are installed)
I've installed windows about 5 or 6 times on this configuration. Not once crashed or hanged during installation and in windows... in applications, never hanges or crashes into the same applications... they work just fine... only when I am using some media and downloading.... it happens at a total random time between a few minutes and even one hour. Sometimes if I am lucky I watch an entire movie while downloading and nothing happens... I just don't get it.
Ah.. and when I get BSODs it never is the same error. Or it's a memory adress (stop error 0x0029940<random at adress 0x41625753<random), or it's a win32.sys, or it's a ntfs.sys, or some other file stored in windows directory.
Please tell me what should I try? any DOS or Windows programs that may stress the CPU in order to see if it's OK please just help me somehow, any ideea will be good.
I wonder if anyone from MSI could give me a hint or at least tell me about a software they use currently in order to debug a MB problem (if t's possible to do so).
    Thanks

    Same problems here.

  • 975x powerup edition startup trubbels!

    Hello!
The last week a strange problem has occurred on my computer. When i turn on the power (I always cut the power from a switch "outside" the computer) the PS_ON led on the chassi lights up and I cant turn the computer on. If I cut power and turn it on again two or three times the PS_ON led doesn't light up and the computer starts, boots and works fine (no lockups and so on...)!
I haven't changed any hardware settings on more than a year, and I have never had this trubble before. I wonder If it can be the PSU?
So annyone up to the challange?
    My rig:
    975x powerup edition (MS-7246 (V2.X)).
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
    Crucial DDR2 PC5300 4GB CL5
    Sapphire Radeon X1900 512MB GDDR3 (Two - in Crossfiremode)
    Soundblaster Audigy 2

Have you got another video card that you try with your current setup, alternatively try your video card in another computer.
Also try to remove the VGA and reseating it. Check all your power connections again. Try also reseating the CPU .
Your tip solved the problem (almost). A friend of mine, who is a electric engineer and lives in another city, is here to visit me and watch the Olympic games (Olympic games on TV + beer =  ). He had some electronic gears in his car so we tested the old Hiper PSU. It works fine while running (max load 712 W) but about ten seconds after I shut the computer down the PSU sends a "power spike" on 13,5 V through the system.
We then disconnected the two GPU:s and grounded and demagnetised them with a device he had. After that we reinstalled them and tested. Same problem, then we put in a floppy with an old program that I once used to check which BIOS I had on my old Soltek rig. The program couldn't find any BIOS!
So I installed BIOS 7,6 and Voila! Now it works absolutely fine! (so far...  :-X) Our theory is that the Spikes from the Hiper PSU "locked" the graphic cards and later somehow drained the BIOS chip/memory. It would also explain why the PS_on led was glowing before I replaced the capacitors on the Hiper PSU.
I gonna test the system during the evening and will be back with a (hopefully) positive report!
    Cheers!

  • 975x powerup - display standby, game over. :(

heya, i came here after trying for 60minuts to revive my computer.
    the configuration:
msi platinum 975x powerup, latest bios by live tool
    intel Core2Duo E6600
    connect3d X1950 XTX 512MB
    be quit! BQT E5-550W
    Cellshock 2x 1GB PC2-6400U
    winxp sp2
    the problem:
monitor went into standby and never woke up again
    the temporary solution:
cut power line, remove battery, reset bios, put gfx card into 2nd pci express slot, repeat the reset/powerdown and put it into 1st slot again. eventually the monitor will wake up again, the platinum logo will show and windows boots. if one reboots or changes bios settings the computer/monitor will go back to sleep again until you repeated above procedure!
    my question:
is it a faulty mainboard, a faulty gfx card, both or none of them but a software/bios issue instead? is this a known problem or one that occured earlier?
thanks for any help in advance,
    simon

hm, i tried out with each memory module now - didnt change the outcome = not booting at the moment. cant even revive it with the earlier described procedure.
i tried to figure out what you mean with dbracket when i finally found this diagnose led in the motherboard box!
nvm with the first led outcome! its: 1, 3, 4 flashing red, 2 flashing green! tried it several times now. soo, looking through forums led diagnose its the memory hm? :/
do you still keep your motherboard manual? What does the flashing LED status tell you? Is it memory initialization ?

  • MSI 975x Powerup Edition and ocz2p800r22gk won't boot problem

    Hi Everyone,
I just recently purchased the MSI 975x Powerup Edition v2.1 mb with an e6600 and when I put in the ocz ram the system won't boot the fans startup for a couple of seconds then the system shuts down and then it starts up again. I have been reading the posts and I have updated the bios to 7.1 I also made sure the boot block was written so the whole bios was updated but it just won't boot with this ram. The only way I can make the system boot is with my old Kingmax ddr2 553 ram from my old system. The ram does work in the old system just not the new one.
Other than getting the new ram to work the system has been fine. I know some people are using ocz with the board if you can tell me how you got it to work it would be greatly appreciated.
    Take care,
    Bob

The problem is 100% the OCZ ram.  I had a gigabyte DQ6 motherboard along with an E6600 and OCZ Platinum ram.  It did exactly the same as you describe with the MSI board.  The only way I got it to boot was to buy some cheap DDR2-533 ram to get it to post and then up the voltage on the ram and change the memory settings.  The problem was that when put into dual channel mode or single channel and put under stress (virus scan, play music and compress a file) the system would crash.
Inevitably I returned the motherboard and the memory and got the MSI 975X with Corsair C5 memory.  I am now running stably with no issues.
I'm afraid OCZ has big time compatability issues.  They even stated that they can't check compatability with most motherboards on their support forum.  I would stick with the real big boys of memory being Corsair and Crucial.

  • Memory issues - kernel panics / system freezes with 1Gb Memory Card

I've recently updated my PowerBook OS to 10.4.7 and now more recently 10.4.8.
Prior to this, i had been running a pair of pc2700 memory cards (1x1Gb + 1x 512Mb) bought from crucial technology on 10.3.9 with no problems.
During the upgrade, i experienced complete system lock ups and kernel panics. pulling the 1Gb card resolved the problem.
So i thought it could be duff memory (it happens). I ran hardware checker, both long and short tests, ran memchecker from single user and there was no reported errors although i was still getting crashes.
I returned the memory to crucial and they replaced it and then i went to reinstall memory in the pb.
Once reinstalled, problems re-emerged. Both System profiler and iStat pro show both memory sticks as ok. both are pc2700 DDR.
i tried just the 1 Gb stick in alternate memory slots. with the memory in the lower slot i was getting system freezes, in the top slot i was getting kernel panics.
I've pulled the 1Gb and reverted to 768Mb (512Mb lower (crucial)/ 256MB (apple) upper) and i'm back to normal.
    Now what?
As my mac is getting on, i'd like to get as much RAM in it as i can, ideally the 1.5Gb /2Gb which it can support. I'd be suprised if it could be the memory stick being duff (2 duff in a row?), its not a faulty memory slot as system profiler is showing that its full.
Any suggestions? Anything to do with how 10.4.8 handles the memory addressing?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    PowerBook G4 1Ghz FW800   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've had that problem, too. I found out that it was one of my memory modules that were broken.
I'd say pop back in your other memory module, then get out your PowerBook DVD and stick it in Restart your PowerBook while holding down the Option Key on your keyboard until some buttons start to show up on your screen.
Select the Hardware Test one, then click the Arrow button. It'll boot into a utility and you can run a hardware test that includes checking your memory.
If any of your memory is bad, it'll show up like "**ERROR ERROR**" and give you a code.
After you've identified the hardware problem (hopefully just the RAM), then you can go to Crucial's website and fill out an RMA request to have the memory replaced. I'm pretty sure Crucial has a life-time warranty on their memory products.

  • IMac 27" (2013) won't work with Axiom Memory

I purchased an iMac earlier this year from MacMall and although I intended to purchase my own memory, I fell victim to their "sweet deals" and opted for them to upgrade the memory. They replaced the stock 8gb memory with a 32gb kit.
I had problems as soon as it arrived and unfortunately delayed contacting them about support for it until I was past the 30 day warranty.
My original issue was that the computer recognized all 32gb but every hour or so it would randomly crash and reboot with no warning. I ran memory tests against the ram and it always came back saying it was working. I took the memory out and found they used the correct memory as far as the label shows and it is low voltage. I looked for solutions online and was unable to solve this issue. I contacted MacMall and of course they said to go to Apple or the manufacturer. I did find some others with the same issue but I figured by best bet was the manufacturer.
I reached out to Axiom and surprisingly their support is great and respond quickly. They immediately said they would ship out replacement memory. Which is great though it was pretty easy to get to this point so I assume they know of the issue. Once I received it I connected the 32gb they shipped out into the 4 banks on my iMac. It would not start up now. This is an even worse issue. I tried to use different slots and then I tried just two memory sticks in the top two slots which worked for the stock memory. No matter what I did it would not start up. I put the original memory back in and it worked fine.
I reached out to them and they sent another set. Itried this set and the same issue. It would not start up. I put my original memory back in and it starts fine and everything is working great.
Now my next steps are to wait for Axiom on another possible solution and to go to the Apple Store to see if they can test a different brand. When I originally spoke to someone at Apple they told me I should have purchased Crucial or Corsair. While I don't disagree I do not want to spend over $300 again for memory.
Anyone else have any ideas? I was thinking that perhaps there is a way to reset hardware with a command when trying to start your computer that is used to troubleshoot some issues but not sure if that could possibly be related here.

Well I went through the processes and wasted a ton of time. I have determined this iMac is just garbage. I ended up working with Axiom and they sent me three sets of memoryt replacements. All of them had the same result where once the RAM was installed, the iMac would not turn on. When I switched back to the original memory I noticed that it wouldn't start the first time and when I swapped memory slots it would work after that.
Axiom finally decided to refund me for the 32gb memory purchase after exhausting all of their support options. At this point, I went to Crucial since when I spoke with Apple support they confirmed that it could be the brand and I should opt for Crucial or a couple of other brands. I went ahead and ordered 16gb of memory from Crucial - I figured I would save some cash for now to test and confirm 16gb works.
I connected the two 8gb sticks they sent and I had the same results as the Axiom memory. I tried swapping to different slots but it refused to turn on with this memory. However, when I reverted back to the original Apple memory it would not start up with the original 8gb. I eventually was able to get the computer to start up but only when I connected a single 4gb stick of the original memory (which is what I am using to type up this post now).
I will try to turn it off again and connect the other original memory so at least I am at a useable 8gb. I am going to reach out to Apple support again and see if I can schedule to bring it in. I am not sure what sort of fix there would be and I looked into any type of firmwares available and possible resets (like PRAM) but I don't believe anything could help this. It is just very strange there could be a hardware issue that works with the original memory but nothing from any other vendors.

  • H67MA-E45 doesn't start with dual memory channel

I have just bought an H67MA-E45 motherboard and a brand  new intel i5-2300 processor.
The pc works fine with a DDR3 1333 memory module on slot DIMM1 (as suggested in the manual),
but does not seem to work with dual memory channel at all.
When I install two same memory modules on DIMM1 and DIMM3 (dual channel configuration), I get the following problem: When I power on the computer, it turns on and instantly turns off. Then it powers on again on its own, but does nothing else. I get no beep error codes and the display doesn't show anything.
I use he on-board display adapter and I have only a sata II hard disk connected, nothing else.
Any suggestion what the problem might be?
Is there a way to check if there is a problem with the second memory channel?

My computer is now working only on one channel memory.
Every time I power the computer on, I get three short beeps, the third one is of slightly different tone. However, the manual does not have the beep codes written down, nor can I find them somewhere for the EFI BIOS (E7678IMS V1.2). Is there any link for the beep codes?
I tried mounting a single memory slot (KINGSTON KVR1333D3N9K2/2G DDR3 (1X2GB) PC10666 1333MHZ ) on DIMM 3 slot, for the second channel to work on its own. When I powered the computer on, I got the same problem, as if both slots DIMM 1 and DIMM 3 were populated. The mainboard turned on (without any beep code or display on screen) only to instantly turn off. Every while (about every four seconds) it tries to power on again on its own, without any intervention, but instantly turn off again. It may manage to stay turned on at one of the following iterations, without giving any beep code, displaying or loading anything.

  • 975X PowerUp - Possible to use Intel Raid and JMicron Controller?

    Hi,
as you can see I've got an MSI 975X PowerUp Edition with Bios 7.7.
Because of many problems I had with earlier Bios version I've got completely disabled the JMicron controller in the Bios.
I'm running 4 HDDs at the Intel controller while using 2x Raid0.
Is it now possible to use the JMicron at the same time?
I would like to add a fifth SATA HDD at the JMicron controller and aybe an old IDE HDD also on the JMicron controller. So, is it possible?

    Sorry, didn't found that thread.
I've tried it now with an fifth Sata HDD, works perfekly until now. I'm formating the new HDD at the moment...
What's the best way to shut down the Intel controller WITHOUT the risk of loosing data?
I want that oly the new HDD is detected so I can use her for testing purposes...
If only for testing purposes, why did you leave raid connected........? Especially, if planning to alter boot sequence......
I turn off computer and unplug disks, when I am doing testing of HD's......... that way data is safe. You have to setup bios again after testing but only takes a few mins or 10 mins if you have written down settings

  • How many memory banks does the new HP Pavilion Notebook 15 p200na have?

I think the laptop must be a very new modle as there are no reviews on it so I cannot see if it has more than one RAM memory bank; the listing says it comes with one 8GB RAM but I can't see if there is also an empty slot. Thanks,

  • T30 Memory Bank Loss and Temperature

    Background
I recently had a cooling fan failure in my T30.  The machine probably ran and hour or two unattended before the failure was discovered and the computer shut down.  The fan was repaired, re-installed, and runs fine.  In the process, I installed TPFanControl and gained an awareness of temperatures in the system.  I'm currently trying the T30 fan either under BIOS or smart control.  The indicated Temps appear to have acceptable margin either way.
    The Problem
I installed 2x 512MB RAM back in March.  The memory showed as 1GB and worked fine.
Shortly after the fan repair, I noticed my machine had apparently suffered the infamous loss of one memory bank.
I'm inclined to think that  the bank failure was temperature induced.
Another piece of background information, most likely unrelated, is that I lost and replaced my original HDD a month before the fan failed.  Replacement and installation of the OS was smooth.  I had no occasion to look at the RAM at that time, so I can't say for certain it was still OK then.  I can't see how this is relevant, but didn't want to leave it out.
    Bottom Line
I strongly suggest users install TPFanControl.  Monitor temps at the least, and better yet  control the fan with a sensible set of limits consistent with your type of operation.  It may save you a board failure.
Now I have to figure out what to do.  Anyone found a single 1GB stick that would work on one side?
Motherboard replacement is not financially attractive.  I'll live with 512MB if I have to.
p.s I installed RightMark too.  Works well for my type of use.  Nice little program.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Any PC2100/2700 laptop RAM stick of 1GB will work, no issues.
You can also do a search for a company called Hammerhead Technologies, they offer RAM slot repair.
    Good luck.

  • Whenever i put ram into the second memory bank my macbook will not start

I've only had one 1GB ram installed while ive had this macbook. Recently when i tried to install a new osx i was told it needed more memory. So i ordered another 1GB ram and installed it into the second memory bank. When i tried to turn on my computer, it sounded like it was ready to start up but then it repeated the process numerous times and all i had was a black screen. I figured the ram i bought just was defective but then i played around with it and took my old one out and put the new one in the first slot and it worked fine. Then i took my old one that worked as well and put it in the second slot while the first was empty and the problem reoccured. What is the problem here and is it fixable?

Let's assume the second slot is dead.
You can try to put the maximum supported size in the first slot.
