975x pue v2, MB Issue, OS slow, first time build

Hello Everybody,
Ok I am having a problem like so many others I have tried searching for the answers but with no success,  :(
now for the Specs.

CD/DVD - LG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with Light Scribe Black IDE Model GSA-H22L
Bios Specs
Bios Ver. W7246IMS V 7.40
The bios is all defaults except for the follow
Speedstep tech – Disabled
Boot Sequence – CD-ROM, USB-FDD, Hard Disk, Disabled
JMB361 MODE – Disabled
SATA Mode – AHCI
CPU – 266MHz v.1.25
RAM – 800MHz v2.0 – set to in Bios 4, 4, 4, 15
Spread spectrum – Disabled
System Setup
IDE 1 – My CD-Rom Drive
SATA SLOT 4 – NONE
SATA SLOT 3 – Hard Drive
SATA SLOT 2 – NONE
SATA SLOT 1 – Hard Drive
Windows Vista Installed in Slot 1
Storage drive in Slot 3
Only windows is installed and the Intel INF drivers on the driver disk.
Ok now for my problem
The vista install took all day to install - stared at 10:00AM finished 5.00PM
On boot up takes about 3 - 5 minutes to see desktop.
Vista runs slower than a snail does when I click control panel it takes about a minute to show the icons.
When I click on icon it looks like nothing happened if I click again I get the working in the background icon “arrow and circle” and if I do it one more time I get the fully busy icon “full circle” if to much is done vista stop and after a while do a restart of the system
Programs get a not responding error while waiting, and fix themselves once info becomes available
Think of it as running a 486 or even a 386 that’s slow and I think in some cases they faster then my system and this is happing to the whole operating system no mater what I click on.

no i did not do it " not sure how to slipstream never did it " . where can i get them and can i still load windows install them. however i did look in to the device manager and see the controller in there for AHCI " took about 5 minutes to reach
I suggest you start from scratch:  Remove A/C power plug from PSU, hit power-on button a few times to drain capacitors and clear CMOS.
After that, reconfigure BIOS-options.  Set Intel SATA controller to AHCI-mode and also enable Force Gen II in SATA speed settings.
If that doesn't change anything, I would try to re-install Vista.  Somewhere at the beginning of the Vista Install procedure you will get a chance to load additional drivers.  I think it was on this screen:
Drivers can be found here:
http://asia.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=267
Look for Intel ICH7R/ICH8R SATA RAID Driver (For floppy driver) in the list.  You won't need a floppy though, when you are using Vista. An USB Flash Drive should be fine.
After you are done setting up Vista, make sure you properly install all necessary drivers.
In what I said before I am assuming that you are having a mere driver problem.  This could be the reason for your troubles but it doesn't have to be the only possible explanation.

Are you getting a beeps at all?
Beeps can be de-coded at the BIOS manufactures website and should lead you to the problem.
Next I'd start working back removing the more essential items... start with CD-ROMs, DVD drives and floppy drives then HDD, then RAM.
All cables need to be double and triple checked for securness. Poorly seated video card is a common culprit.
Final possibility is you may have a faulty or have fried your cpu... I did once.
Hey thats not bad of an idea maybe it will work and our systems are almost the same hehe so i guess ill try it. =P

  • Slow first time file/folder, etc. opening

On my G4/450/1.5gb ram/OS9.2.2, the first time I do anything (open a file or folder or even the Apple Menu Items), it's very slow to open. After it opens once, that particular item opens normally from then on, but not subsequent openings of other items. This is a constant problem. I've made no changes to the computer and my memory control panel is set to default. I know the first time normally takes a little longer, but this is much too long; maybe 5 to 7 seconds. Never was this way. Anyone? ... thanx

Now I'd normally say Don has it covered. From the description it sounds like the Finder looking for the icons to display for the items in a folder or the icons for the Apple Menu Items.
But 5 to 7 seconds is a bit excessive for this even with a desktop spread all over the disk.
So only three questions, which may mean nothing at all:
Does it still happen if you boot into Base Extensions (in Extension Manager control panel) ? I'm wondering if it's an extension or control panel used to enhance the appearance of the Finder, something like Kaliedoscope or similar. Just reboot into Base Extensions and see if it is still as sluggish.
1.5GB or RAM, so virtual memory is going to be off (OS9 can't use that much memory). Not an issue, but in the Memory control panel, what size is the Disk Cache ? It's normally a percentage of the installed RAM, but tops out at a specific value, maybe 768K, but you can still set it higher by hand. What is it currently set to ?
Might be the Energy Saver control panel, or someone will correct me if it's something else, do you have the hard disk(s) set to spin down / sleep "whenever possible" ? It's been a while since I booted into OS9, so if the option is not there it may be a third party control panel / extension that offers the functionality. A sleeping hard disk would explain the delay of as large as 5-7 seconds.

  • Webutil_host very slow first time.

I use a very simple comand
    WEBUTIL_HOST.NONBLOCKING(COMANDO)
    where COMANDO is
    COMANDO := 'CMD /C "'||FILE_NAME||'"' ;
and FILE_NAME contains the name of a .xls Excell file.
It works fine but first time I execute it it takes more than 5 minutes to open the Excell file.
From the second on it appears after 20 secs.
I tried to open Excel by hands before I execute the command but nothing changed.
How can I solve that issue ?
    Tks
    Tullio

Can you explain what you mean by this statement:
I tried to open Excel by hands before I execute the command but nothing changedWhat do you mean by hand? Do you mean you try opening the file using excel application on client machine? If so, how fast did it load first time on client machine?

  • Permissions issue only the FIRST time I try to overwrite a file.

I've a standard user account and I've found overwriting protected files is bugged in Leopard.
As an example: every time I'm upgrading Camino web browser with the latest nightly build (by dragging the new version from it's disk image, and into the Applications folder) I get a permissions issue the first time only. As usual I am warned I will need to authenticate, then I am warned I will be replacing a file, then the first time only I get told I do not have sufficient privileges on one or more items to continue. The second time I try I am allowed to progress to the authentication window where I enter my admin username and password and the operation completes.
The same thing happens with other files I'm trying to overwrite that are located in protected folders (I just use Camino as an example because it is a daily occurrence). But it ONLY happens the first time.
This has persisted through three erases of my brand new iMac's HD and clean installations of Leopard. I have of course run Disk Utility multiple times to repair the HD (no errors found) and repair permissions (just the usual ACL errors every Leopard user faces).

    Hi,
What's the error message did you get? It would be better to provide a screenshot for your problem.
Generally speaking, this problem can be caused by third party adds-on of IE. You can try to start IE with no adds-on mode for test.
Open run, type iexplore -extoff, pess
    Enter.
If it works properly, please chck which plugin enabled in your browser, try to disable them for test.
In addition, this can also be caused by IE settings, try to reset IE for test.

  • Slow first time execution

    Hi everybody!
I 've written simple java application which uses the "substance" look'n'feel and that makes it to run very slowly for the first time when you run it, I used simple splash screen mechanism to show the main frame after executing main method, but when you click any button for the first time the whole application just hangs up for about 10 seconds, after that first pressing everything works fine. With java or windows l'n'f everything works without startup problem. Does anyone have any idea what is taking so long to execute button actions for the first time with "substance"?
Any help would be appreciated! Thx!

All right!!!! I see, I have to answer to my question myself. Hey people! I have found the answer, actually one of them probably, maybe you know that already but I didn't , the button which I wanted to press was big(this for sure you didn't know), when I made it smaller the first execution time decreased accordingly, now I've got it 10 times smaller button and you almost can't see the difference between first pressing and the next, I thought the JButton takes as much memory or processing work as another JButton but this is not true - as you guys have probably heard before from one girl or another - Size really matters!!! :)

  • Kde start up is slow first time every day

I use kdm. The time waiting for the last icon on splash screen is about 15 seconds or more (may be 1 minutes). But it only happens on first time everyday. If I reboot the machine immediately, the time is about 5 seconds, not so fast, but OK. Heavy disk I/O when waiting for boot.
I have no daily cron tasks but default.

I find the reason: wdc disk works bad in low temperature condition. Is it a bug or "feature"?

  • 9ias : Slow first time and fast the other times

    Hi,
    I'm facing a problem with using Reports 9ias on a HP-UX server ...
I start a report server on the server
I'm calling the report from forms with RUN_REPORT_OBJECT (destype=file, desformat=pdf, batch, synchronous) and then call a web.show_document.
The first time I run the report it takes a long time ...
The others times, even with different parameters, it appears immediately
I've understood the Report Server is using a cache and it takes time to load reports in it.
We have 250 reports in our application, and we would like the reports to run immediately for the end-users.
How can I put all the reports into the cache automatically in background ?
Is there a way to speed up the first call ?
    Thx in advance !

  • First time build questions

I am quite a way through my first build - quite time consuming but a good learning curve. I have a few questions which I hope you could help me with.
    MSI MS-7030 nForce 3 K8N Neo Platinum
    AMD 64bit 3000
    Corsair (VS1GBKIT400) 1024MB (2 x 512MB Matched Pair), DDR400 / PC3200 non-ECC, Unbuffered, CL2.5
    Sapphire 9600XT 256mb
    LG 1710 B 17"LCD Monitor (DVI)
    Aopen cd-rw 32 x 12 x 48
    DVD Player Lite-on 16 x 48
Mitsumi 7-in-1 Floppy Drive / Media Drive
Windows 2000 Pro or Windows 2000 Server
    Microsoft PS2 Internet Keyboard
    Microsoft Optical mouse
    Tablet Wacom Graphire 2
Wireless ADSL Router (wired to desktop) D-Link DSL 604
Bios - The basic building tips mentions going into bios before loading Windows. Have not changed much in my bios except boot order. My Seagate Sata 160gb was detected fine as was everything else except a cd drive where the cable had pulled out on the MOB.
Should I change other settings in the bios before installing Windows or later. And if so which are the key settings to change and how do I work out what to change them to? (I am a bit green on bios) I looked at the link breaking through the bios barrier but other than reading every single item... Not sure where to start.
I also flashed the bios to the latest version - should I have done this? Or waited till later?
Windows I am using quite old versions of Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server. In both cases including before flashing the bios the setup of devices phase seems to freeze, the blue bar does not move. If I reboot setup quickly moves to where it left off, moves a bit further then freezes again. If I repeat reboot about 4 or 5 times I eventually get Windows working OK.
But the last time I did this I installed Windows 2000 Server over the top of Windows 2000 Pro. Not sure this was a good idea as the MSI drivers won't load. The install program opens and does not seem to do anything.
I am inclined to format the os area of the drive and install Windows again. One of my colleagues suggested that using Windows XP Professional might resolve the problem of Windows 2000 appearing to hang when installing.
Reference material I have read a couple of Build Your Own books before starting this build but found they were a bit light on detail and out of date. There is a lot of helpful information on the Interet but I think I could do with something which would improve my knowledge. Would the latest edition of Upgrading and Repairing PCs  by Scott Mueller be a good choice? How well does it cover bios for example which I understand only superficially or would I be better (poorer financially) buying individual books on different subjects e.g. "Breaking through the Bios barrier" by Adrian Wong.
I don't plan to build PC's on a regular basis but would like to understand more than I do at present.

    Thanks for all the replies.
I will take the advice on bios and leave well alone at this stage.
Will reformat tonight and install Windows XP and see how it goes.
Couple of immediate questions. On my current PC I have 4 different boots but only really use one. My current PC has Windows 2000 Pro with 2gb, 20 gb for apps and the balance of the 80 gb drive for data. Also an 8gb drive which I hardly ever use.
Current plan on my new PC is to initially use the 160gb SATA as 20 gb combined partition for OS and apps and the balance for data. Or are there really benefits for keeping the operating system separate from apps? Using Partititon Magic fast to set up although currently it is only seeing 132 GB although the bios is correctly reporting 160GB. Presumably this is something I need to adjust in Windows once fully installed.
My 80gb drive has IBM ontrack overlay software. I managed to transfer everything to the new drive using PcAnywhere via the router. Which was great as the first time I have got two machines to talk to each other via the ADSL Router. (This was a great relief as I could not PcAnywhere to work via a serial cable!)
My inital intention was to use the 80GB as the OS / Apps drive but based on the other problems I have had, now decided to build and use the system based on a single 160 SATA drive first then when I am sure it is stable go to plan B with using the 80GB IDE drive as the Windows and Apps drive. I then need to reformat the 80GB drive as it currently has IBM Ontrack overlay software because my previous PC bios could not see 80GB otherwise. Considering at that stage installing Windows 64 bit beta on the 160GB drive.
I don't think I need Raid at this stage although I have a little bit of experience as my SQL Server has two Raid drives (0?) plus a hot swop drive stored in our fire proof safe.
I use AVG free antivirus and have the latest version ready to install.
Regarding firewall - confused as to what is required. Was under the impression that my ADSL Router has a hardware firewall. Also the motherboard has a firewall as well doesn't it? Do I also need a software firewall? There is a free one recommended on the AVG (Grisoft site)
By the way. I was a bit apprehensive when doing the build and took hours over it being very careful to read and follow the steps in motherboard, CPU and case (Antec Sonata) manuals step by step - a very slow process. All the cables in the case looked very intimidating at first.
The whole thing is extremely straightforward and towards the end everything became very logical. All the parts I used seem extremely well designed and easy to use. The only part where I had doubts was pushing down the plastic lever on the AMD retail heat sink. I wondered whether I had understood it correctly and whether it was going to snap.

  • First time build check, with some questions

After much back & forth, I’m about to take the plunge and do my own build.  It seems similar to many others here have done, and is pretty close to the VideoGuys DIY build, but it’s my first time and I do have a few questions, so I thought I’d post and get comments.  Here are my specs:
Antec Twelve Hundred V3 Black Steel ATX Full Tower Unbeatable Gaming Case
ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with USB BIOS
    Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80619i73930K
    EVGA 04G-P4-2673-KR GeForce GTX 670 Superclocked+ w/Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
    CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX850 (CMPSU-850AX) 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular PSU
Intel BXRTS2011LC Liquid-cooled Thermal Solution For the LGA2011 Socket
VANTEC 2+1 FireWire 800/400 PCIe Combo Host Card Model UGT-FW210 (Ti chipset)
1 Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drives (media drive)
1 Western Digital Caviar Black  1 TB 7200 rpm SATA 3.0 (Boot drive)
1 Hitachi 7200rpm 1 TB SATA 3.0 (renders and exports)
    64 GBof Crucial RAM - 8GB 240-pin DIMM  DDR3 PC3-12800
    • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 •
I plan on overclocking using the ASUS auto overclock feature.  From what I’ve read 4.3 seems to be a reliable speed to shoot for.  The videos I’ve watched on the auto overclocking with the UEFI interface look straightforward.
I’m going to use the 670 to power 2 editing monitors via DVI, and an ASUS P24A6 via HDMI as a client monitor.
For the foreseeable future, I’ll be editing AVCHD footage.  Don’t do much motion gfx work, mainly cuts & dissolves, with a fair amount of color correction & grading applied.  How does this system look to do with this configuration with this workflow?
Also, any feedback on cooling appreciated.  It looks like the Noctura has some compatibility issues with this board fully populated with Crucial RAM, so I’m going with the Intel liquid cooler, which looks easy to install and was recommended by ADK.  With this case and this cooler, will I be good or is there any other type of cooling I should add to cool the RAM or the PSU?
Anything else I’m missing?  Thanks much to all who post here.  Special thanks to ADK, their participation here is invaluable and the advice they gave me was much appreciated.  Were this system my main source of income, I’d buy from them for sure.

    Stu,
Looks like you have done a lot of work for this to be your first pass here as a build list; there is a lot more that looks right than wrong.
Regarding how is this system for your workflow? This PC would certainly do what you want it to do.
Regarding cooling, RAM and PSU will be fine.
Regarding is anything missing, yes a Blu-ray burner.
You did not state whether you want to A) build this and leave it alone for years, or B) make some upgrades in the future. If B), I only have a suggestion for your RAM choice. If A), I do have some suggested tweaks to how you spend your budget for this build.
You've heard it here before, but it is so true that Adobe has mastered the ability to tax just about all of your PC components (cpu, RAM, bus, drives, and video card) with Premiere Pro CS5 and above in order to make HD editing fast and fun. This makes balance important and in some ways a system is only as strong as its weakest link.
Your current plans strike me as:
    CPU = A+, RAM = A+++ on paper, but possibly a bad idea, Drives = B-, GPU = A-.
My only strong suggestion is to go for 32GB of 1600 RAM. You want to do a moderately strong OC on the CPU and the memory controller of the 3930k is not strong enough to pull this off.
Minor suggestions: A) more drives - go for at least one 2x1TB RAID 0 array for media, projects, and scratch (adding one more drive). B) SSD for boot - for spending as much as you are here, I think your build deserves a 128GB SSD for the boot/OS drive - no this will not help after Premiere Pro has started and you are editing, but it will make the PC faster for lots of other things that most users do.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Flash file into captivate playing slow first time

    Hi.
I am very new to flash but have been using Captivate for
awhile now. I am trying to create an animation in flash of a book
flipping pages. I have 9 jpg images of the various stages of the
book flipping. When I import the first image into Flash it asks if
I want to include the entire series of images. I said yes to this
and now I am stuck. When I test the movie in Flash it plays slow
once and then really fast after that.
I saved it and imported it into a captivate project and the
same thing is happening. It plays really slow and choppy. If I
navigate away from the page and then come back to it, it plays
really fast (faster than I'd like but I'd prefer that to slow)
Any help. I searched on the Flash forum and found someone
else with this issue but they never got a response.
Any suggestions would be great. I am sure I am missing a step
here but I just can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks,
    Kim

When you say you play it, in either Captivate or Flash, do
    you mean
locally or that you upload it somewhere and play it back
    through a web
    browser from that website location?
If the former, then I'm not sure. If the latter, sounds like
    the images
are Very Large and it's taking a while for them to download
    in order to
play...but once they're downloaded and 'cached', the file
    plays quickly.
How large are your published SWFs? What format are your
    images? What DPI?

  • Copy workflow issue - Only works first time

    Hello
I created a simple "copy" workflow with SPD:  it should automatically copy to another library any new files that match a condition , as they are uploaded.
If Current Item:Doc Type equals JobReport
Copy item in Current Item to Job Reports
Stop the workflow and log File copied
It works with the first file, then it quit working, even if disaply "Completed" in the workflow outcome field.
Source Library is DocSet enabled, while destination library is not.
    Any idea? Thnks
    Lucio

After a couple of days of "try this, try that" I've concluded that the problem was caused by the <jsp:include>. As I'm learning, one must be careful when mixing JSF and ADF components, as well as how components are nested within containers.
I was hoping there would be a way to visually develop a page fragment in one file, and then include it in another file. But I could not find a way to do this.
What I'm doing for now is:
    1. Create a jspx file for my sub-page (so I can develop it graphically).
    2. Create a jspf fragement file, and include that in my main page using <jsp.directive.include>.
    3. copy/paste from the jspx file to the jspf file to test (but only copy the portion between the <af:form> block.
Seems to work. I'm open to better suggestions.

  • First Time Builder! Evaluate My Choices?

    Hello everyone,
I would just like to say that this forum has been an AMAZING place to learn about computers and video editing. I am new to everything, and it is very overwhelming, but I appreciate the posts that attempt to decipher the complexities of building a computer. Thank you, everyone.
I've made a pretty lazy attempt at choosing parts for my own build. I do not have too much money for the hardware ($1500 before taxes, CDN and not including peripherals), so my focus is buying the essentials and upgrading later. Is there anything I can remove or downgrade from the current options I have listed below? I plan on using this computer for editing my t2i/550D footage in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.

    Thanks!

Gigabyte motherboard, i7-950 CPU, overclock -> absolutely!
Bumping it up to 3.6 or 3.7GHz should not be too dificult and the gains for Premiere Pro CS5 are definitely there; check out the PPBM5 benchmark scores (PPBM5.com) and look at similar CPUs running at different clock speeds. Also, with Intel's current CPUs the chip slows way down until the work gets tough and then the clock speed raises to get the work done more quickly.

  • First Time Build Help.

Helll and I am happy to be here. I just built my first computer using the X58 Platinum. The problem is that when I turn it on the computer
will run for like a minute, turn off for  like 5 seconds, and then turn itself on again. It does this until I just turn it off and unplug it. I have
connected everthing and checked them according to all the manufactures' direction. It runs fine with no error beeps,no smoking, no nothing.
I don't have a clue what to do next except take it down to Micro Center where I bought all the parts and let them figure it out,but there
will be no feeling of accomplishment for me. Here is what I have built.
    Antec TwelveHundred case.
    Intel i7 Processor.
    750 watt power supply.
    Baracuda 1.5 TB Sata hardrive.
    Sony Blu Ray/DVD/CD Rom.
Diamond Radeon 4870 1 Gigabyte Graphics Card.
    3 0CZG Triple Channel 2GB Memory cards 1600
I have double and triple checked every plug and connection. The Processor and fan is secured and powered. Nothing gets hot or overheated.
I plug my monitor into the graphic card hoping to see the BIOS screen but no Bios images on screen. I am stumped now and can't think of
anything else I can do. Don't have an OS on the new hardrive yet,but that was going to be after I viewed and setup whatever in the Bios.
    Any suggestions or tips.

If you look else where on this forum you'll see a post from me asking the same thing as you did. However, the times on your double power up are way longer than mine. My double power up is only about 4 to 5 seconds total. We also have nearly identical hardware. Just last night I tried the overclock switch and mysteriously my double power up went away. If my temps stay stable and all continues to be well I'm staying with the overclock. I have no idea if using your overclock switch will fix your double power up, but based on our hardware similarity I'd say it's worth a try. It worked for me!
