975x wont boot - new parts

Hi all, im new to this forum but it seems great, i read around abit and found some useful posts.
However, i have the following setup :
Msi 975x
c2d 6400
2gb corsair xms 6400 c4 ( 2*1gb )
7900gs PoV
Aspire 550 psu
I just put the parts toghether again, after having the parts returned to vendor, he claims the first cpu didnt work, and returned the motherboard while i waited for a new cpu to arrive. When i got it i tried the system again, but the following error is still there ;
The system wont boot, other than the fans will spin up but no screen at all, just stands there, when i use the usb led thingy, it shows 4 red dots.
I saw some posts about OCZ memory that wont work, but those were reported as memory issues by the led if im correct, and as i can see it arent 4 red dots the code for CPU , or can the code be wrong and its still the memory ?
The new cpu i got was in an unopened box so it was really new, but i refuse to believe i have broken 2 cpus or have recieved 2 dead cpu from vendor.
Any ideas would be very much welcome.

Baboon,
You're not the only one surprised.
I bought THREE 975X PUEs and every time I have re-visited the MSI website I have found new caveats for something the board won't do, or for something that won't work, or for something not included . . . no fixes, mind you, just oddly worded "escape clauses".
Here are some examples:
MSI Reminds You...
• DDR2 800 needs to work with Intel Conroe CPU with FSB1066.
• The default memory frequency is DDR2 667, you can set to 800 in BIOS settings.
• Due to the BIOS limits, the Intel RAID and the JMicron RAID functions can not be enabled at the same time, which will cause the system unable to boot up.
• The RAID setup floppy disk is optional depending on the districts. You can download the files from the website to make the setup disk.
• To enhance IDE transfer speed, you may install JMicron IDE/SATA Driver. You may download the driver by clicking the "Driver" icon at the left side.
• The floppy disk cable will be optional.
Yep, the first one was a big surprise to a lot of us sticking in our P4s.  Hello?  Well, OK, maybe the "CPU Support Chart" should have been the "CPU Semi-Support Chart".
OK, I'll even give MSI the first one.  But the third bullet!  Now that one just flat makes me laugh!
Beta Board!  MSI didn't design this Board, it just kinda "happened".

After some hiccups, the computer was working like a charm... until this morning.
Now BIOS B only cycles between codes 04 and 55 [Early Memory] (and everything in between) while BIOS A gets stuck at 67 [Late CPU]. I have tried every possible option including:
*swapping out each memory stick leaving only 2 in the right positions, when they are in the wrong positions the code displays 30
*disconnecting all other parts including GPU and SATA's
*removing the heatsink and reslotting the CPU
*a failed attempt at flashing the BIOS (useless since it won't boot to begin with.)
I maybe should mention that my first CPU was not a Haswell-E core but a Haswell. This CPU would not boot and got stuck on 60. The Haswell-E core worked just fine for about 2 days, then this happened.
I had installed all necessary drivers for the motherboard and Live Update 6 that updated the BIOS. Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver would not start for some reason, if it matters.
Anyone know what could be wrong? Do I need to RMA the board?

Isn't that exactly what MSI Live Update is intended for?

Regardless, I let it do what it needed to do...
Supposed to be OK for chipset drivers and such but not for BIOS.

  • Created 3 partitions on new Mac Mini, deleted one, and now Bootcamp wont boot anymore! Need help please!

Here's my dilemma.  I have a new Mac Mini - a week old.  I installed Windows 7 on it using Mac's Bootcamp assistant.  I then set up and configured my Windows 7 world and everything worked fine.  No issues logging in between Lion or Win7 via the restart/option key procedure.  Well, yesterday I split my Mac HD partition one more time to create a third partition (was created as an "extra", e.g. possible future partition for another operating system).  After creating it, I then decided that I didn't really need it.  So I deleted it in Disk Utility and attempted to drag the Mac HD partition line downward so as to "fill in the gap" and reclaim the lost hardrive space.  It seemed as if I could reclaim about 1 gig or so, but I figured...oh well.
Well, the Mac HD partition seems to work just fine, but now I've noticed that I can't get into the Bootcamp partition anymore.  It wont boot.  If I try to verify the partition [doesn't even give me "repair" as an option), then it fails and gives me the following error message: "verify volume failed.  invalid request."  When I go to the Startup Disk option in my System Preferences section, it displays the bootcamp partition as a folder and not as a drive anymore.
I'm assuming that I messed up some permissions or lost some vital links during my attempted resizing/reclaiming of harddrive space.  How do I fix this without having to reload either all of my Mac info or all or my Win7 info?  I'd hate to consider the last two days of my life loading this crap up a complete loss.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi surroundsound,
you can't put more partitions on internal HD once you install winOS with Boot Camp.
The sure fix is to delete the windows partition (with Boot Camp Assistant, not Disk Utility), then getting rid of the extra partition (with Disk Utility).
then you can re-install your win& (recreate the win. partition with Boot Camp) - don't add any partitions after.

If the system won't boot from the new drive the OP bought and install OS X on it it certainly won't boot from the original drives Recovery HD partition.
Sorry genius.....but if the Recovery disk shows up that means the disk cable isn't bad.  Could be he did have a screwed up HDD and when he put the NEW HDD in (after putting the OS on it via USB) the computer didn't reconize it and therefore didn't boot the OS.  Just maybe right genius?  Don't rush to criticize someone's recommendations until you realize other possibilities.  (I did say "if it does")

Try to boot in Safe mode, see if you are able: Hold down shift and then power on. For wireless keyboards, hold down shift after the chime.

  • Brand new Macbook pro 15inch (not Retina) wont boot my MBP 13 inch (2011) HD

Just bought a brand new macbook pro 15 inch, replaced the hdd with my 13 inch hdd and it wont boot. i got a Error msg. (Lion)
    - I put the new hdd in the old MBP(13 inch) and it boots fine.
    - I put back the old hdd in the MBP(13 inch) and it boots fine.
I figured the hdd wasnt compatable with the 15inch so then i cloned the 13inch hdd onto the 15inch hoping it would work. i still got the error msg.
so now im stuck because the 15inch wont boot from the stock hdd because it has the data from the 13inch. Very frustrating, what could be the logical reason to why it wont boot?

That's correct. The version of Lion you have on your old disk will not boot on the new machine.
What you should have done is make a Time Machine backup of your old drive. You still may be able to buy an enclosure for it and see if you can use Migration Assistant to migrate your apps and data, but I'm not sure that will work (works when an old drive is in another Mac and you transfer via, for instance, Firewire).
So you'll just have to resinatll the correct version of Mountain Lion and then you can TRY to use Migration Asistant to get your data/apps from your old hard drive once it's in an enclosure (again, I'm not sure that it will actually WORK, I've never tried it).

I bought 8gb DDR3 1066 mhz to install on my MBP 2010 and it beeps three times during boot and wont boot. I looked at other threads and it seems like no one has found an answer. It looks brand new with no obious problems.

  • New board wont boot, help please

    Hi.
I have just bought MSI K9A2 Platinum with a quad core phenom 9950 black edition cpu. and ati 4850 pcs 1GB gddr3 pci-e  2x 2BG corsair ram.
I built the rig but when i push the power button everything seems to work, fans spin, cpu warms up graphics card warms up (the heatsinks) but the monitor says no signal.
Sometimes the monitor goes into standby and other times it stays on but with no picture.
Has anyone come across this problem and does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
I have cleared bios, unplugged all usb pins etc. tried with 1 mem stick and 2 , and un plugged hard drives.
    Many thanks for any help.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
The board is now booting. one of the memory sticks is dead, wont boot with it in, take it out and its fine
The problem i am having now is i cannot create an array.
in the create an array options, option 1,2,3 don't do anything but 4 does.
I managed to format the drive and the OS is loading as i type, but when pc boots it says no array created, so if I am getting the Sata speed right, if an array isn't created then it wont be running at full speed.
Ive tried changing bios setting in sata control bit... IDE, Raid and  a....... cannot remember other options, but none of them work.
OS is now up and running, everything seems to be working. just strange that it wont allow me to make an array.
    Any ideas thanks

  • New Neo 4 Platinum Wont boot past WIN XP :(

Hi, Im hoping someone can help me, I just built my system, its
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
    AMD 64 3200+ 939 0.09
    2 x PC4000 Crucial Ballistix (running at 200mhz)
    4 Lighted Fans, Lighted case,
    DVD RW, CD ROM ,
    Floppy with Multimedia,
    XFX Geforce 6600GT 128mb
    Antec Trupower 430w  26a on the 12V, 36A on the +5V and 28A on the +3.3V
Ok, Everything works fine, till WINDOWS boots up ... And it wont boot, before the windows XP loading screen, it stays black, and freezes.. now.. to me it seems like memory/ power supply issue. lowered timings, raised Memory to 2.8v (Crucial suggest this voltage for the ram) ... no go... now my power supply is a good power supply.. but its only 20pin, and the nforce 4 ultra (well MSI) is 24pins ATX 2.0.. mine is a standard ATX12V... its supposed to still work, but Ive had mixed bagss of peopel saying it worked for them, and others that said it didnt.. but with this power supply, shouldnt I have been fine.. PLEASE someone help me, this is eating me alive...

Oh man this sounds familiar., i'm having some of the same probs. I just redid the install of XP Pro sp2 cause i needed the nvidia raid drivers for the NCQ on the Seagate i got.
The first install went fine but i couldn't  oc more then 220fsb with this Corsair pc4400, so
i was like ok let's just get everything running sweet and then play. So after i added the
printer a usb scanner and a usb memcard reader for the camera, it would just hang after the boot logo for xp then it would hang on the Platinum screen sometimes too.
So i played with the voltages which seemed to help for a little bit., i went 3.3%+ on the cpu, 1.5 on the north bridge, and 2.70 on the mem. So i reformatted and used the 6.39 chipset drivers and the latest vid drivers from the manufacturer and everything seemed ok. So i proceeded to add the printer, scanner and card reader again 1 at a time and it seems like it's after the mobo gets warmed up is when it hangs on booting XP after the bootscreen., Cpu temps are at 35C and this mobo in a Cooler Master Cavalier case runs kinda warm for me like at 36 - 37C (According to Cool n Quiet) after it gets all warmed up. So i'm kinda at a loss here too.  I got the same psu as the first poster. Memtest 86 ran for 4hrs, with no errors, and Sandra burned in for a couple hours with no problems.
Oh and the mobo say's the bios is the 1.1 dated 1-12-2005
So i'm hoping it's a bois thing that will be resolved soon, or is it this psu. Seems like some other fellas have had no probs with lesser psu's. Oh and do those 20 to 24 pin adapters make a difference?

  • Z77MA-G45 wont boot up new system

    dear folks,
I just built my PC and with the test build everything did it alright, but now when I have it installed in my case it wont boot up.
Everytime i boot you will see in the down right corner B4 / 99 / A2 then it gonna reboot. Ive tried with 1 ram in all the 4 slots but still got the same problem.
Theres no troubleshoot on the website so i cant check out what A2 means. Please help me

that is weird! starting to look like the board is faulty!
a thew other thing you could give a go : do a CMOS clear >>Clear CMOS Guide<< and plug unplug the PSU and hold the power button in for 30 seconds with the power switch turned on at the back of your PSU!

  • How to undo boot camp, wont boot from install disk in dvd drive

A few months ago I went through trying out boot camp and parallels. Now, I think something is messed up. I dont need either right now, so I just want to wipe out the whole system, repartition the drive, and restore to a blank new install of os x 10.5 leopard.
But when I put in the install disk, it wont boot up off it.
I tried holding down the c key while powering it up, and it just cycles through: hearing the drive whirl, a bling sound, and then repeating it again while the screen is blank. Finally, I held down the click button on the touch pad so it would eject the install disk.
Maybe this will help someone recognize part of the problem. Ever since messing around with boot camp and parallels, my machine wont "reboot". To reboot it, I tell it to reboot, then it hangs on the star like screen, then I have to hold the power button down, then if I do nothing, it tries to boot, but ends up in a dos looking screen saying no bootable device. So when I power it back up, I hold down the alt key, and then I have one choice: the hard drive. I pick that and it boots up ok.
So... I thought, well, maybe the boot camp is still messed up; maybe I should undo boot camp. When I start the boot camp assistant, there is only a "partition" and "back" button; nothing to "restore" the hard drive to just one partition.
What can I do? I want to wipe the drive and install a fresh install from my install disk.

    Forgot to specify:
Im using an older Unibody Macbook (back when they were not all macbook pro's) 2008ish with Snow leopard 1.6.8
The thread you linked me to, Eric, shows the guy 'Niganit' with the eXACT SAME PROBLEM as me! He seems to have found out the problem but I dont see his resolve.
I just dont have the option to install windows 7 in any other form that a cd
