9800 Pro blind flashing

I got a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro I would like to flash for my beloved MDD. I know that the procedure is easier using a PC, but I don't have one. I read elsewhere that blind flashing on the mac itself is possible but I can't seem to find a comprehensive tutorial. Please help!

Update: Version 8.7 of ATI Multi Flasher (bundled with Graphiccelerator)...

  • Flashed Radeon 9800 Pro died. Anywhere I can find a cheap X800XT?

It seems that everytime I throw in an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (AGP) that's flashed into my G5 DP 1.8 June 2004 PowerMac, it chews through it within a year or two, ending up killing the card with the infamous vertical lines in random areas of the screen.
I have had moderate success in keeping my last card afloat with an aftermarket fan, however it finally gave in today, when the card completely shorted.
I'm running on a spare Radeon 9800 Pro (flashed) which has the same configuration as the card that died, except this has a lower core GPU and memory clock speed.
I've been frantically searching for a cheap replacement (under $120) for a Mac edition Radeon X800XT 256MB AGP card, but only came up disappointed when I saw the few (and quite expensive) results on ebay, as I can't use paypal (can't verify my address since I don't use my bank often) so my only options are left to searching locally or going on amazon.
I do want to save my Mac, it is a beast of a machine, I love it to death, and I simply want the best for it.

They are quite expensive, some other possible cards...

  • How can I blind flash Radeon 9800?

So I have PowerMac G4 FW800 machine and I would like to flash PC-version of Radeon 9800SE. I don't have AGP based PC anymore and I also don't have any kind of PCI card. My machine has OS X 10.4.11 installed. I know that I will need to tape mod my card to force it to AGP 4X.
But what software do I need? I have read the Graphiccelerator can do blind flash atleast in OS 9. Can it do it in OS X and if, what should I do? Grab the correct ROM file and somehow make graphiccelerator to start and perform the flashing?

You would need to write an automatic script/ proceedure (Automator, maybe?) to open GAccellerator, open and run the Run Me First, then to open and run the preloaded ATI MultiFlasher. That script (possibly a complimentary Applescript?) would then be placed in Startup/Login Items so that it would begin the process  after startup when running blind.
Don't know if it will work. Haven't heard of anyone doing so.
If it did work, you'd need to disable it after the run or it would flash your card on every startup......

  • Radeon 9800 pro 256mb hanging on blue screen

I'm deep in the waters of frustration right now, and am hoping someone here might have the answer.
About 3 months ago I was looking for a video card for me to run motion. I saw the 9800 mac special edition with 128mb video ram had rave reviews. At that time ATI was not making them. So I turned to eBay...
I purchased a card that was advertised as a Mac 9800 pro special editing 128mb. I later found out it was a flashed pc card. The ebay seller told me the card worked fine on all his mac's that he tested it on.
The problem I was having was the machine boots up, I see the grey screen with the Apple logo and spinning wheel. I see the blue screen where normally I see the login progress bar loading the OS. But with this card I only see the blue screen. I hear the hard drive churning, so I am assuming it is still loading the OS, but I cannot see anything. I can reboot in safe mode and the video card works fine.
Well... I assumed it was the fault of the card and that it was flashed. I returned the card to the ebay seller, who sent me another one, same results with that one. I returned the card to the seller and he refunded my money.
I put the money toward the just released Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256mb card. I just got it a couple days ago and am experiencing the same problems. I have tried everything... everything I know and still can't get the card to work? Here is a list of what I have done:
    With the flashed card:
    1. Shut off computer and unplugged it. Removed OEM video card and installed ATI 9800 card. Plugged the power supply cable for the card into the computer power supply cable and hard drive.
Problem Occurs: When starting up, the grey screen comes up with the Apple on it, then the screen turns blue, where I typically would see the progress bar of the system loaded up before the user login screen. I only see a blue screen at this point but can hear the hard drive working for about a min.
    2. Restarted the computer in safe mode.
    3. Logged in as Admin user and opened the ATI preference pane to verify it sees the card.
When the ATI preference pane was loaded the following error message occured:
    A startup problem has occured.
Cannot connect to ATI TVOut Kernal Extension. Some features are not available.
Clicked OK and the ATI preference pane appears.
    4. Close the preference pane and reinstalled ATI Displays 4.5.6. Restarted computer.
    Problem Occurs
    5. Restarted computer holding down AppleOption+PR to clear PRAM. Cleared the PRAM 4 times in a row, by allowing the chime to happen 4 times.
    Problem Occurs
    6. Shut computer down. Disconnected the DVI plug for the cinema display and connected a VGA CRT monitor. Started computer.
    Problem Occurs
    7. Shut computer down, disconnected the VGA CRT monitor. Reconnected DVI plug and restarted computer.
    Problem Occurs
    8. Started the computer in safe mode. Logged into admin account. Opened the ATI Preference pane.
When the ATI preference pane was loaded the following error message occured:
    A startup problem has occured.
Cannot connect to ATI TVOut Kernal Extension. Some features are not available.
    Closed preference pane.
Went to ATI site and downloaded:
    aug2005-radeo-universal-rom-update.dmg
    Ran the updater.
    Restarted computer.
    Problem Occurs.
    9. Restarted the computer in safe mode. Changed the login preference pannel to automatically log into the administrator account. Restarted computer, waited for the blue screen, then walked away for about 2 hours with the computer on blue screen, hoping the system was loading or doing something.
    Problem Occurs.
    10. Put in the TechTools Pro CD, hoping to run some tests on the video card from the cd. When booting from the CD OS...
    Problem Occurs.
    11. Enabled Root user. Logged in as root and installed ATI Displays 4.5.6 from there. Restarted computer.
    Problem Occurs.
    12. Shut down computer and installed old video card.
    13. On an internal hard drive in the computer. Wiped the drive and formatted it. Installed 10.4.1 on the drive. booted up into the drive, installed ATI drivers, shut down computer, installed 9800 pro video card, booted up.
    Problem Occurs.
With the new 9800 for Mac ATI card with 256mb:
With original card, install drivers, repairpermissions, shut down, install new card
Set to restart in single user, give 5 min to see if ATI monitor startup item in user starteputems loads
Hooked VGA & DVIt in together, both showed blue screen
    Reset NVRAM via open firmware
    Reset cuda button
Take battery out, wait at least 10 min, re-install new battery, press cuda button
    Reinstall ATI update 4.5.6
    Reset nvram from open firmware
In ATI control panel, selected 'Force Single Display Operation'
    Change display scaling to 50%
Download latest Mac OS update from apple & reinstall
    Help?

I get dizzy just thinking about it.
I have tried installed a brand new OS, 3 different times on a different Hard Drive, still the card doesn't work.
I had one person suggest that it may be the card is not communicating with the OS Window Drawing module? (excuse my ignorance of what that is really called. I just know there is some program, possibly in the kernel, that is responsible for drawing out the OS windows.)
How can we rule out that it is a bad AGP slot?
•The slot works fine with my 9000.
•It works in safe mode with the 9800.
•I have installed a brand new OS, three different times, still doesn't work.
•I have used Apple Hardware test to test my hardware, the AGP slot didn't report any problems.
I am assuming that the AGP slot is working. Although I worry about it a bit, because by now I have swapped cards in it about 50 times in my troubleshooting.

  • Digital Audio G4 and Radeon 9800 Pro

Has anyone had the same fuss w/a Digital Audio and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition? Been through about 5 cards (lost count somewhat) and constantly getting a display of the video card (with its power connector flashing red) on a black screen. Only by opening the box and reconnecting the power connections, and sometimes reseating the card, do I get successful results, with the Mac booting properly.
No other card (others that I use do not require an additional power connector like the 9800 does) seems to have this problem; all boot properly.
There is a Sonnet 1.8 Ghz Dual CPU upgrade, 2 internal hard drives, a raid card, and FW 800 and FW 400/USB2 cards, but additional power connections for those have been unplugged. I'm good with letting any external devices run on their own power.
Thanks much, to anyone that may have a suggestion or a solution.

    Hi-
With regards to the connector graphic, this invariably means that there isn't power connected.
State the obvious, but, have you tried pulling power from a different connector? Maybe try a new extension........ Molex connectors can work loose from the cap, and slide back when attaching to a device. This would give the appearance of being connected, though in reality, otherwise.
Have you tried without any of the PCI cards installed? I wouldn't want to remove the processor, either, though the dual does pull some power at boot. The DA PSU, however, should be able to handle both the processors and the 9800..... unless the PSU has a weak 12v/5v/3.3v rail....
Pulling the PCI cards will clear up whether or not the problem is with power in the PCI bus.
As for posting a picture, you need to host the picture at a site like Photobucket or Imageshack. Then, place a link (produced at the host site) in your thread.

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Wierd Lines    Bad Card     --   The solution

After updating my Computer to 10.4.8, I frequently had odd lines and Weird Colored Shapes dancing across my screen. Restarting was the only thing that solved the problem but It started becoming more frequent as time went on, Every 30 minutes having to do a restart. The Graphics card is the Retail ATI 9800 Pro 256 Special Edition 8x AGP, the card is 6 months old.
I bought a Replacement 9800 and the problem was solved. I sent the damaged one to ATI/AMD and it took them two weeks to send me a new one. A lot of people are having the same problem, Don't waste you time trying to sleuth it like I did, just pull it and send it in for repair. ATI/AMD were pretty easy to deal with, I didn't even have to show them proof of purchase.
    G5 Dual 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   3.5 GB of Ram

    Hi,
As has been stated above, the 9800 has heat issues in most Mac towers. I was politely told I didn't know what I was talking about, but I'm afraid I do and those who choose to ignore the hundreds of posts about this issue do so at their own risk. If you have a warranty, that's nice.
The Arctic Cooling Silencer 1 (Rev. 2) is a good brand of GPU cooler. It's your call, put a better cooler on the card or get another card. For $25 and 10 minutes work I'd put a cooler on it and see how it works.
BTW, a properly flashed PC 9800 is a very nice card and works the exact same as a Mac Edition. I have several.
Until the RoHS compliant ATI Mac Edition cards are available, it is VERY hard to find a better video card. The ATI x800xt 256MB is the best card for performance and it will push a 30" display - for over $300. Most vendors are saying 3 weeks availability and have been saying that for 6 months.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • Ati Radeon 9800 Pro won't start up mac!

I just got this Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB AGP from ebay and installed it promptly but my mac just won't start up!
I tried placing back my existing nvidia card and it booted up fine. Am i being ripped off with a PC version or something? I noticed there's a extra piece of chip to insert from my old nvdia card but not the new ati one.
But i checked on the net and found that the ati radeon 9800 mac cards also do not have that extra chip.
    Here's a URL of the card i bought. (http://i4.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/da/aa/1988_1.JPG)
Any idea or advice guys? Thanks in advance.

    Hi-
The image is just a stock image from ATI, of a 9800 Pro- which one is impossible to tell.
Since you are calling the card a 256mb version, the card is a PC card (unless it,s blue). It was advertised as a Mac card? If so, it has been flashed. BUT, if it is an 8x AGP card, it needs pins #3 and #11 taped to work in your 4x AGP QS. See this article.
Do you have the eBay link to the card that you bought (the listing)?

  • Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb troubles :\

    Hey,
I'm not used to post things on a forum but now I'm getting quite desperate. I've been searching and surfing the net for possible solutions but none worked until now.
Sometimes my v-card's drivers hang, or that's what I think. The image freezes, but the mouse can keep on moving (nothing will react anymore and even when I'm typing this, it happened already 1 times). After that "freeze" of about 2-3 seconds, the screen will "click" like you hear when you change resolution in the display properties. After that, the screen comes back and most of the time, everything is ok, except from the fact that sometimes a window like this (mozilla) is resized to 800*600 or 640*480 size .. (not sure)
But sometimes, the screen goes black after clicking and will never come back, only a reset can help this situation.
And sometimes (rare) the screen begins to show artifacts on the screen (not in games, just windows) and this gets worse and worse until you can't see  and have to reset.
When anything of this happens during a game, a recover doesn't seem to be possible at all.
     -> this suggests it's a driver problem...
Now I've read about fastwrites (not available in current bios - but i heard it's available in the new bios which i didn't upgrade yet because i'm a bit afraid of the procedure as I don't have a FAT system nor a win98/ME boot disk and I'm using winXP pro) which I disabled in the catalyst drivers
I've tried to lower the AGP acceleration
    I've tried Omega drivers
I've turned on and off the VPU recover
I've checked my PSU - even disconnected everything but v-card, hdd and nic and my PSU (Antec case) can give 16A/28A/35A in 12v/5v/3.33v rails...
A clean install of windows won't help
    Direct X version doesn't matter
And all starts after the first catalyst driver installation after the fresh windows install.
    Please help,
If you think there's some info missing, don't hesitate to ask, I'm an experience PC user so you can ask me pretty much everything about anything (I think) and I'll followup this post frequently. Anything that can help me find the cause will be appreciated. Until now I didn't want to return the card under warranty because I know I'll have to miss it quite some time then. :(
    PC spec:
    MSI 6547 (Sis645) Mobo
    P4 1.6A (OC'ed or not, doesn't change anything)
    Hercules Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb
    Windows XP Pro - SP1

i read that the bios update adds the "enable fast write" function, but at what value is it whitout the update ?
if it's enabled by default, then it could be the problem
but i'll look into the site you gave and try to flash the bios tomorrow
i'll post the results and try the card in another pc if it didn't work :\

  • Installed 9800 Pro Radeon are drivers need?

    Greetings Apple Discussions:
Just installed a PC flashed 128MB 9800 Pro Radeon, Zalman VF700 VGA cooler and upgraded the stock PSU to 450W. Everything went well. I also have a PCI slot exhaust cooler.
I am considering using Thomas Perrier's AtIccelerator II to reasonably increase the processor & memory frequencies.
    http://thomas.perrier.name/index.html
The stock processor & memory frequencies read as (processor 351MHz)(Memory 324MHz). How much is a safe increase from these values?
Also do I need to update the ROM drivers?
    http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/macosx10-4x-3x-radeon.html
    I am running Leopard 10.5.2
I would appreciate if anyone could help me with these issues.

    Hi again-
The Zalman will do a good job of keeping the 9800 cool. I have a Zalman 900Cu on a 9800 (in a GE), and the card never shows any sign of heat related problems.
I set mines to 389 and 344 respectively. Everything appears cool.
Stability and reasonable temperatures, no artifacts, that's what you need. Like I said, all chips are a bit different, so the limit is only found through trial and error. With the cooling mods, you won't need to worry about the heat killing the card.
How useful is the ATI Displays Panel?
If you want to rotate the display, the display control panel will support this. Also, the extension allows scaling, controls for the S-video, and Open GL overides for gaming. It is worth having in your system.
that the intake vent holes behind the case fan were clogged with dust/lint. I could only clean these vent holes thoroughly by removing the case fan. I am assuming these are intake holes.
Yes, those are intake holes. The air comes in through a gap at the bottom of the acrylic side panel, then through the holes in the steel case. They can get really nasty, so it's good to keep an eye on them. Also, good to keep dust buildup around/under the Tower to a minimum.

  • ATI Radeon1900 XT vs ATI Radeon 9800 Pro + 30" Cinema Display

I bought a used G5 2.5 quad (PPC). It has two graphics cards one is an ati radeon x1900. In order to use my cinema display with this card I have to have that cute extra little white power supply box, oh joy! My G5 1.8 single has a Radeon 9800 Pro and the 30" plugs right in without need of xtra power supply. Can I switch the 9800 in the 1.8 single and the x1900 in the 2.5 quad? Isn't the 9800 Pro a better graphics card than the x1900 anyway? I don't mind using the power supply on the 1.8 as I won't use it that much any more anyway and prefer less "stuff" on my main "new" unit. Most of my work involves flash, photoshop and FCP.
Advice on this would be much appreciated. (PS. Leopard really ROCKS, just got it!)

Thanks tons for you help. I hadn't opened the machine up yet to see what the heck, or done any research on the quad in regards to slots, guess I was too excited about SPEED! The card/slot type would definitely pose a problem. Good thing I had a spare power supply around for the monitor! Thanks for the input on the quality of the card. I don't know my p's and q's around monitors and cards so I really didn't know what I was looking for in regards to this.
    Thanks Again.

  • Can I add a ATI 9800 PRO AGP card?

    Hello,
I am seriously looking at this cool MEGA PC as HT add-on. I am thinking of adding a ATI 9800 PRO card. Can I do it? :O

I don't know if it will fit, but let me say this about those Flex-ATX 200W PSU's.  Don't count the smaller PSU's out.  And don't think that a higher number is better.  Because when it comes down to it,  it's about quality not quantity.
I have a Shuttle SB51G with the ACHME 200W PSU.  Just 200 little watts, but yet it runs 100% stable with the following:
    P4 3.06G @ 145FSB (3.35G)and polished/lapped heatpipe
    Kingston HyperX DDR434 (2x256) @ 2-2-3-5-8 1T

    Pioneer DVR-105 (1.33b unlocked)
    WD1200JB 120GB 8MB Buffer Drive
    Atek Pro III flash reader
2 60mm fans (from Coolermaster Dual P4 Xeon coolers)
    EL Glowing faceplate
    ANTEC Tri-Led fan for heatpipe

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro???

Hi I recently bought a refurbished G5 2.0 DP over at geeks.com It came with the stock ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with the 64mb. Now I mainly purchased it because my job required a lot of HD Video editing and I have successfully installed Final Cut Pro Studio 2.0. But Final Cut Pro 5 is so choppy on the HD playback. My educated guess is because of the 64mb. Should I just hunt for another 9600 Pro with more ram or upgrade to the 9800 Pro/XT or shoot for a flashed/Mac edition X800 XT? Any recommendation I would greatly appreciate.
P.S. I recently posted something similar but my situation has changed, so I need a little more help

Ok thanks, now I have a better mindset in what I'm looking for. I found a mac edition of an X800 XT for 150 buy it now with $30 shipping so not that bad. But those flashed 6800 GT are $115, I think I will go with that, the 6800 GT. Since they are flashed is that the only modification to them? no pin modification needed?
For example like this card: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Mac-Nvidia-Geforce-6800-GT-256MB-G5-6800GT-Ultra-/1404 29536600?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PCCVideo_TV_Cards&hash=item20b240ad58#ht_500wt1154
It says its an AGP but the pins look a lot different than the other AGP connectors I have seen.
And could you look at this could this be something I could look into as well: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320554062168&ssPageName=STRK: MEWAX:IT#ht5478wt1139

  • 5900xt or a 9800 pro

just a bit of a dilema currently have a herculees 9800 pro which works fine, and even scores 6000+ on 3dmark03 without overclocking, just got hold of a very cheap leadtek 5900xt brand new + boxed (not oem), just wondering what your opinions are on choosing one ? personally i have no prefrance for ati or geforce just want a better graphics.

My last card was a Herc 9700 Pro. The damned thing just wouldnt die!
I had to make a choice of cards for my new mid-line rig, and it was a tough choice between a BFG 5900, 5950 Ultra (which made no sense since most 5900's can be safely flashed to read as 5950's), 6800, and the Radeons. I nabbed a great deal on an Asus 9800xt that I couldnt walk away from, and I have to say that combined with a gig of Kingston 400 DDR, and a 64 2800, Farcry looks/runs like no other video game ever designed, and Doom 3 plays flawlessly with superb frame rate at high settings and high res. But.......BUTTTTTTTT...make sure you use the absolute latest drivers from the ATI site...anything before  the CAT 8's can be buggy as hell even with a 256 meg XT!
    Cheers!

  • 875P INF Drivers and Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder

Please help; I am at my absolute wits end.  I will try to be brief but I doubt that there is much chance that it will be.  Basically I have narrowed things down to this.  My video card is a Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder 128mb version.  My motherboard is a MSI 875p.  Lately I realized (long story not important) that I did not have the inf drivers from intel installed for my mobo.  This seemed to make sense as to why I was having display issues in games; IE Morrowind.  So I installed them, and when I rebooted I was pleasantly surprised to find that the monitor would simply turn off right before I could get to the login.  Now I have reinstalled windows several times and installed several different combinations of intel inf updates with different version of the Catalyst drivers.  Pretty much, if I have the INF drivers installed, I will not be able to get into windows.  However, if I don't have them installed (like right now) normal things, like typing this message, I can do, but I can't play any games   .  From what I have read I am thinking that it is one of a few things.  A, it has something to do with the AGP driver/ and voltage setting things.  Many people were talking about issues like this with the 9600, and 9800 pro (not all in wonder).  So there might be some bios settings that would help; though I have no knowledge of how such things work. B, is that the card is just a dud and I should just give it up and try to send it back in.  I am afraid of option B mainly because I know it will take forever, and then I have no comp, and because of dreaded option C.  The motherboard is simply incompatabile with the Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder 128mb version.  Please let me know if anyone has had similiar problems, if I am up a creek, or how to set the bios...  Here is my system specs; I will check back to see if I need to add anything.  Thanks a bunch.
    p4 2.6gigahertz
    MSI 875P
    1gig ram kingston hyper x
    120gig western digital harddrive

Radeon 9800 Pro All in Wonder 128mb
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Antec Performance Plus SOHO File Server Case ATX12V
(There doesn't seem to be anything in the Bios updates that will help me luckily, because I want to avoid flashing it if I can.)

Okay, I will try to answer any questions as they came.  First off, Windows XP Professional is what I have.  I tried to install the video drivers with both the inf update from intel, and the one from MSI installed.  Again it crashes at login screen with any sort of inf update (ie agp drivers) installed.  Radeon is running at 4x with fast writes disabled, however there is one interesting thing I learned Another thing to note about the problem is when I got to the ATI SMARTGART advanced settings little program (within the ati folder under program files) I can see that PCI write, and read are both on, and AGP read and write are both off. I am not a genius in relation to computers, but how could this card be acting as a PCI card, when it is installed in a AGP slot?  Is this because since I don't have the inf update installed, so as far as the computer knows that agp slot is a PCI one? A further thing to note is that whenever I install the video card driver for my All in Wonder 9800 Pro, is that it installs two cards from what device manager shows. One is "ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 SERIES" the other is ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 SERIES - Secondary". According to device manager they are both located on PCI Bus 1, device 0. Disabling one or the other does not seem to make difference. A final thing to note is that I took an All in Wonder 9000 out of a friends comp and put it into my with the inf update installed; it booted windows and detected it fine. Does this mean my card is a dud and needs to be sent in for repairs, or is there some kind of voltage issue?  As for other PCI cards, I have a modem that is not even installed at:
PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 3, device 1, function 0)
Sound card at PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 3, device 2, function 0)
Again Video Card (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0)
The onboard Gigabit Ethernet is at (PCI bus 2, device 1, function 0)
Another thing that might help clue someone in is that I have
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
    Listed 5 times; IRQ's are 23, 16, 19, 18, 16
The IRQ of my All-In-Wonder is also 16 if this means anything. No conflicts listed of course.  Another note is that my onboard ethernet's irq is 18, same as one of the usb host controllers, and it works fine...
I can't think of anything else to add, let me know what you think.  Thanks a ton so far guys.

  • Huge artifacts with PowerMac G5 and Radeon 9800 Pro (Could be 10.4.11)

    Hi!
During installation, my graphics got all screwed up. You can see a screenshot of what's going on at this link:
    http://www.gchoquette.com/files/Picture2.png
I think you guys can see it too. I'm actually writing on the defective computer, so it's hard for me to see what's in the screenshot.
Here's what I did so far. I tried removing half of the RAM first, then the second half, the problem persist. I rebooted on a different system, it's still there (so not software). I tried Hardware Test utility, it says everything is fine. I unplugged the Video Card, cleaned it a little along with the connectors, nothing.
Here's what we know. It happened DURING the update to 10.4.11 (not after I rebooted). I'm pretty sure I can take screenshots of it, so it's not simply in the connectors to the monitors. It happens on both my monitors (also when I unplug one of them).
You guys have any idea of what I can do or what is going on?
    Thanks!

I have a flashed 9800 pro and I've noticed that if I turn the computer on before the monitor, I'l get nearly identical artifacts. If I turn the monitor on before the computer all's well. Maybe its for flashed cards only. Good luck.
