99 Video Track Limit - Have 240 mini movies to cram on disk...

Is there a way to place more than one movie on a video track but to have a separate link to each movie in my scene selection menus?
I am creating a teaching DVD for a client with 240 small movies, and each one must be linked individually according to its topic from one of the 26 menus (arranged alphabetically).
According to the DVD Studio Pro/Apple Certified guide book, the first chapter has a list of the DVD-Video Specifications (which states that a DVD-Video disc can contain up to 99 tracks of content, each of which can have 9 streams of video and 8 streams of audio. I am just wondering how (or if) these 9 streams of video can be viewed individually when linked to the disk menus...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andrea - don't make the assumption that a DVD track is like a CD track. On a DVD a track refers to the container for your footage, and you can add many different pieces of footage to a single track, using markers or stories to divide it up into the individual pieces.
You are limited to 99 tracks, stories and slideshows in a DVDSP project. This means one track and 98 stories, or any combination of the three to a total of 99. You will therefore struggle to get 240 individual clips to play back individually without using chapter markers with end jumps and multiple tracks (at least three as there is a limit of 99 markers per track).
This is OK if you don't want to do a 'play all' for every single clip. If you do, then you'll probably need to get into writing a few scripts, or find some other way around linking the tracks together.

You would need to transfer it to a computer that has a DVD burner and appropriate software.

  • Multiple video tracks and slow render

I have two video tracks. Everytime that I move the video on either track it has to re-render all the affected areas of the movie, but all I need it to do is switch to the highest video track. I don't need it to render at all. I'm sure I never had this problem before. Was this introduced by a newer version of Final Cut or have I introduced a new setting? This version is much slower on my C2D than it ever was on my iMac G3.

Check item properties for your clips and see if they match item properties for the sequence. They should be exactly the same.

  • Transition only for one video track?

I have 4 parallel video tracks to have 4 videos run simultaniously in every corner of the screen. I want to fade in and out each video clip separately. When I add a transition to a video track, all other tracks below are faded as well. Is this a bug? The only but inconvenient solution is to set keypoints and manually fade the transparency.
How can I prevent the lower video tracks from beeing influenced from the transition in the upper tracks?

It doesn't matter whether I convert the clips into compound clips or not. In the first picture you see the bad result with normal clips, in the second with compound clips. It also doesn't matter when I put the transition inside the compound track by double clicking it (picture 3). It is all the same: The track with the transition influences all tracks below. If I had more than two clips, all other lower tracks are faded by the single transition in the upper track. Any idea?
It is Final Cut Pro X 10.0.2.

  • Video Tracks

How many video tracks can one have in Elements 9? I pretty sure you can have 99 audio tracks but what about video?

You can have 99 tracks of video and of audio -- although you can technically add more, if you're crazy enough to!
Obviously, the more video tracks you have, though, the more power the program will demand. So have lots of RAM and processor power if you're going to add more than 10 or so!

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • 1 Movie file has video track for appletv & 1 for iphone

Does anyone know how when you purchase a movie on itunes in HD, you get a beautiful HD movie to watch on your AppleTV that is a fairly large file, but when you choose to sync it to your iphone the movie file is MUCH smaller, made just for the iphone. There are not two files, so I assume the file has 2 video tracks in it and syncing just extracts the smaller file. Any one have insight on this? I'm ripping my own movies and want to create the same thing. Once file with a HD track and an iphone track.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
When you purchase HD files from itunes you DO get two files.
Quicktime can create multi tracked files but I don't believe they will play on the tv or the ipod. Neither device to my knowledge supports sprites

  • MP4 movie error: No audio and video tracks found.

I recently move all my movies to a better performance hard drive. I imported the movies or playlists to iTunes. All movies were playing flawlessly until one day I get the dialog "Can't access file" ... I tried several things I encounter on this communities but the files still not played.
I can see all the files with their size on the hard drive, but when I try to imported or drag to iTunes, they simply not appear or they don't import at all.
In one of my test I found a dialog appear indicating "Error opening file: No audio or video tracks found" ...
I need the way to fix this situation, since I have over 500 movies on that drive. Would somebody help me ???
My email is [email protected], just in case you want to help me directly.
I can even pay a nice reward to the person who help me fix this issue. Seriously.

What is a better performance hard drive and what operating system? Kind of sounds like this should be posted to the morons over at Power Mac forum and the bozo that moderates it

  • Can ATV play multi layered video track .mov files?

    Hi all,
Front Row 2 cannot play multi layered video track .mov files for now,
so I wonder if an ATV take 2 can play .mov files with 2 or more video track?

    HeyJP wrote:
yeah, so far, it looks like it has to be pretty vanilla. Only a single h.264 track and an audio track.
The new 5.1 rentals supposedly have 2 audio tracks - stereo for devices that can't handle 5.1 via HDMI and presmably to give stereo audio out via the RCA sockets, and the 5.1 passthrough.
It may be that with time more fucntionality will be added to movie playback, but I'm not holding my breath.

When you converted the original files via MPEG Streamclip, what did you convert them to?
Have you tried trashing your preferences in FCP? Trashing FCP prefs is usually the first step when FCP is performing strangely.

  • Syncronize movie w/ separate sound/video track

    I need to embed a movie into a flash-file (there's only the
movie with sound in the project).
at importing the avi, I had to separate the sound-track from
the video-track because I needed to add an improved version of the
    audio.
Since I don't know much about Flash, I put the Movie into the
timeline of a layer and then I put the new audio on top of it.
Now I have the problem, that on every machine the movie is
ending not at the same time like the audio.
Is there a way to synchronize them without the need to
reimport the movie? does loadMovie help? (Reimport of the movie
with joined tracks is a pain because I would need to redefine
import-scale and -clipping dimensions on 5 movies.)
The Flash-movie should be compatible with as many players as
possible, I think the minimum therefore would be player version
    6?

You can move clips by frames on timeline by using the keyboard.
First select the clip you want to move, then hold down the option key and press either the left or right arrows.

  • Move Video Tracks

I haven't touched FCP in over a year and I beyond rusty. I have three video clips(different camera angles of an interview) that are on individual video tracks. I want to rearrange the tracks (move the bottom to the top) and also maybe toggle the video off so I can see a track below. I have no idea how to do this.

Hold the shift key to prevent the track from moving horizontally (in time), click and drag it. Start with the lowest track and drag it to say V4 or V5 -this will give you some working space to rearrange the others.
When you have them in the right order, select them all, hold shift and drag back to tracks V1-3. Note that you don't have to do this, but it keeps the timeline neat and tidy.
To turn off a particular track's visibilty, click its green button at the left of the timeline. It will change to a darker green. In some circumstances, turning a tracks visibility on and off may require you to re-render.
