    Hi
I am trying to use more than 4 GPU of 7870XT Tahiti working on MSI 990FXA-GD65, but only 4 GPUs are visible. In control panel (device lists) there is 5th when I use all x16 slots, but it looks as below:
I use PCI-E 1x-16x and 16x-16x risers, also tried to short pins responbile for graphic card detection.
    Win 7 64-bit , tried Catalyst 13.1, 13.4 , power supply Lepa 1600W, CPU Sempron x2 190, 2GB RAM
    Please help with this issue.

You have already been advised using more graphics cards than what is supported is not going to work. That is a user to user support answer that was provided. This is not MSI but a user to user forum of MSI products. MSI is not involved here, and the opinions & statements here are not connected to them in any official manner. Your question has been answered. This thread should now probably be locked.

It is sad MSI cannot support their customers in professional way no matter what they are using their equipment for. It is my private matter and counted on support. Thanks anyway
Sorry, that is not going to fly! Would Ford Motor Company or Smith & Wesson willingly offer support to a bank robber knowing the intended purpose of their product?

  • 990fxa GD65 and Sound Blaster Problems

    Hi Everyone,
Upgraded my motherboard to a 990fxa GD65 with 2 XFX hd7970 in Xfire.  Only 1 slot can be used to set up the sound card, which is a SB Titainium Fatality Professional PCIe sound card into PCIe2 slot.  The motherboard see's it, and the device manager see's it.  Even put test sound through the "primary sound device" manager and see the green sound bars move when I select a test sound.  PCIe2 slot should be fine for this card I would assume.  ..........and yes, the boards sound card is disabled in bios.  No conflicts with any other sound drivers or hardware that I can detect.  Any thoughts???????????????????

This card needs one PCI-E x 1, right?
By that "Only 1 slot can be used to set up the sound card, which is a SB Titainium Fatality Professional PCIe sound card into PCIe2 slot" you mean that you installed your sound card into the second PCI-E x 1 (above the first PCI-E x 16 slot)?
I'm using the same PCI-E x 1 slot for my Sound Blaster Z sound card without a problem, didn't try other slots though.
Correct.  Sound Blaster card in slot #2 which is a PCIe x 1 slot.  Can't put this in any other slot because of the Xfire set up.  PCIe #1 slot can not be used because of the 990 chip set that is right in the way.  It is PCIe slot #2 or nothing.  But, slot PCIe #2 should work without a hitch.  Once again, card works fine.  FUBAR with the motherboard or drivers.  I am putting my chips on drivers.  Or, something is not good with the mobo.

  • 990FXA-GD65 Vs. 990FXA-GD80

    Hello to every-one
I'm hoping someone can tell the difference between the "990FXA-GD65" and the "990FXA-GD80" in regards to performance and durability.
I've seen some people say that the GD65's Northbridge gets hot and that the GD80's does not, Would a hot Northbridge be a problem ?
I may do some light OC'ing.
Basically i would like to know which one would be better
What i will be doing: Game Programing, Gaming, Some rendering and Video conversion.
    I'm getting the FX-8120 BTW.
    Many thanks.

Dr Mos:In order to provide customers stable and high quality products, starting from P45 series mainboards, MSI is leading the industry to introduce the world's most advanced power supply component, DrMOS (Driver-MOSFET), which integrates Driver IC, Top MOSFET and Bottom MOSFET into one chip. Except for its outstanding performance in power saving, DrMOS possesses switch frequency which is 400% faster than traditional MOSFET and has great improvement in stabilizing power supply and voltage control. Even under heavy loading and overclocking conditions, DrMOS can still provide the most stable and efficient power supply and quality.

Sideport Memory(Useful you buy a vga that support hybrid SLI or use onboard vga):  is used by ati tech. as dedicated buffer memory for integrated
graphics, located on the motherboard. It is usually higher clocked ddr2 or ddr3 memory
which is faster than usual system memory providing better performance for integrated graphics.
Motherboards claim for an increased >10% performance by using sideport memory.

APS:Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s mainboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.
Generally speaking with MSI boards, the first part of the model indicates the chipset ie 990fxa or z77 and the last set the tier. ie gd 65 / gd 80
Generally the higher the number at the end the higher end the motherboard.

  • Front Panel USB3 solution for 990FXA-GD65?

I just got a 990FXA-GD65 and a case with front panel USB3. I assumed (incorrectly) that there would be a USB3 header on the MB. Is there any way to hook up the front panel USB3 male plug (20-pin I believe) to one of the back panel USB ports with some kind of adapter?
    Thanks.

Yes they make those adapters and they make adapters for plugging those ports into the USB header on the motherboard. Then you can always put an add on card for USB3 connection.

  • Limited vcore 990FXA-GD65

I have a 990FXA-GD65 and from what I can tell there is a revision 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.  What is the best, most accurate way of finding out the revision of the board?  Also, do any of the beta bioses allow more voltage adjustment?  The vcore can only be set to 1.45v in the bios, it can go higher in AMD Overdrive.  I'd like to not use overdrive anymore but the board doesnt allow enough Vcore adjustment for me to do so.

Its been a BIOS restriction for a long time, and it was introduced when the FX8000 series were launched.
These CPUs start spiking to over 200Watt TDP when overclcoking. The board was designed before these CPUs were launched and thus the VRMs are not safe at those power requirement levels. To protect the VRMs from burning up, the restriction was added.

  • 990FXA-GD65 Northbridge Temperature

I've recently bought myself a 990FXA-GD65 and it is all set up now in my rig.
I then went into SpeedFan to check the temperature of my PC and I see that my Northbridge is running at 127°C!
Is this temperature right? Or is this a faulty board?
    Thanks,
    Alex.

its on the link that already give you, and its downloading fine
Its named "Control Center" not "CoreCenter"

  • 990FXA-GD65v2 and New SSD

I'm starting to pull my hair out over this because I'm not sure what's going on!
My system includes the 990FXA-GD65v2 on BIOS version 19.9, which it came with. I have two (2) x 2TB HDDs in a RAID 1 configuration for redundant data storage, and a single Samsung 840 Pro 250GB with the OS on it. I recently purchased a new Samsung 850 EVO 500GB to replace the 840 Pro that was constantly running low on space. With no requirement to retain the existing Windows 8.1 Pro operating system, I opted to load the operating system fresh. After installing the new SSD in place of the old one, I was able to see it in BIOS, as well as in the RAID controller (though it is set as a "Single Disk" like the previous SSD). However, I'm not able to see it in the Windows 8.1 Pro installation DVD.
Curious, I replaced my original SSD, and hooked the new SSD into another SATA port. Once booted into my original OS, I was unable to see the new SSD in device manager.
I also attempted to clone the old SSD to the new SSD using Acronis 2014 on a boot CD. The clone was successful, but on restart, the computer was not able to boot to the new SSD.
Both new and old SSDs are on the latest firmware. I attempted to provide the RAID driver for the board while trying to install Windows, even though the RAID 1 configuration shows up already, but the new SSD still does not show up.
    Help me!
Thank you so much in advance for any replies.

k.4 the version of the 990FXA-GD65 is compatible with the 990FXA-GD65V2?
the 990FXA-GD65 and 990FXA-GD65V2 are exactly the same the only difference is the V2 version shipped with a newer version of the VBIOS back when the FX CPU's first hit the market as the normal ones did not have a BIOS that supported them!
In essence they are the exact same product and use the exact same BIOS versions as each other the V2 just points out it will support a FX processor out the box!

  • Msi 990fxa-gd65 vrm burned , refused rma :(

Hello firstly a happy x-mas to everyone
Let me state my story i bought msi 990fxa-gd65 and amd fx-8120 bulldozer cpu a few weeks back.
i installed it and it ran was very happy for 2 days , then it happened... , seems the vrm's burned !
let me explain you why i think was a faulty board.
when it did ran it gave 1.37volts to cpu at idle , stock 3.1ghz turbo disabled, was all ready high for me , but i thought i will try newer bios later , as wanted to play some bf3.
then i just ran 5min to see if all my memory is working , with blend test, and msi board gave 1.48 volts to cpu all stock settings nothing changed in bios except memory settings o.0
1.48 was why to high looking at other reports etc.
so when in bios to change last setting on my memory , and boom did not boot, try booting it few times, and boom there was smoke , vrms blown , without the pc even booting .
so it seems board and cpu died, they rma the cpu but the board they refused to.
the retail store told me they tried there best and only way i can get rma is with rma number from msi, i logged ticket on msi website no reply yet, hoping this post will get me a reply.

  • 990fxa gd65+win8.1 are the latest AMD chipset drivers needed?

990fxa gd65+win8.1 are the latest AMD chipset drivers needed? any benefit?
    http://support.amd.com/it-it/download/chipset?os=Windows+8.1+-+64
    Thanks

it just depends if you have problems you have with your chipset!
if the answer is its working perfectly well and all the ports speeds are normal leave it alone and use your current ones!
if the answer is you are having issues with your USB ports or something else then update them!
(Newer drivers can sometimes induce problems with your system and it just depends if you have problems or not if its a good idea to update)

  • 990FXA-GD65 MAINBOARD POWER CONNECTORS

    hi,
I am building a new system using your 990FXA-GD65 board and an AMD 8320 chip.
I am at the part where I must connect power connectors.  I see that there are 3 connectors:  JPWR1,  JPWR2 and PWRCONN1.
My Power Supply has the 24-pin cable for JPWR1 OK.    But it does not have the 8-pin cable for the 8-pin JPWR2.   It only has 2 x 6-pin connectors labelled PCI E1 and PCI E2 and another 2 x 4-pin connectors labelled CPU1 and CPU2.
The power supply I have is a OCZ 700W unit (OCZGXS700) and its about 4 years old.
What to do?  Can I just leave the connector JPWR2 unplugged?  Or will I have to purchase another Power Supply?

connect both 4pin CPU ones to JPWR2 as that is a 4+4 connection and if you look at the pins its 2 identical pin sets as a 4 pin so use both.

  • Starting New Build with 990FXA-GD65

    I received my 990FXA-GD65 Motherboard.
Waiting for delivery of the CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb.
    Memory: AMD Entertainment Edition 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333.
Heatsink: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus.
Question 1. On the 990FXA-GD65 motherboard there is a 4/8pin power connector (JPWR2). My power supply has both 4 & 8. which should i use?
Question 2: The board has an ATX 6-pin Power Connector (PWRCONN1) for the Graphics Card. My GeForce 8800GT card has a 6pin connector attached to it. Should i plug the power supply connector into the mainboard, graphic card, or both?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
This is a build in progress and i plan on upgrading the graphic card and a few other things.

  • 990FXA-GD65 & 970A-g45 Bios Question-HPC

I have 2 systems with pretty close to the same bios Feature. My question is a quick one, and I hope a simple one?
What is HPC-I know it stands for High Performance Computing-I know that it has to do with the throttling, under load.
What is the exact reason for this? Why was it added to the bios? Is this just for FX cpu's
    Looking for a quick rundown.
When enabling in Bios-with everything on default-do you just enable? Do you need to turn anything off-C & Q? or do you just turn in on and go?

    Thanks for your help guys

HPC locks the multiplier for the CPU at maximum setting so it has no LAG when asked to do a demanding job as its already running at maximum performance levels and doesn't have to wait for the CPU to realize that it needs to up the clocks from idle clocks(powersaving mode) to high performance clocks!
if you want no delay in performance thats what HPC is for as it will hold the CPU at its full clocks all the time...
as for C & Q that should be disabled as it may interfere with HPC mode and continue trying to throttle the CPU to lower clocks and voltages! if C&Q is off just enable HPC and it should function properly!
