990fxa-gd65 bios setting

I need to know the best setting to my bios 990fxa-gd65 to make it more stable and long life time.

At the very minimum what CPU you have and the brand, model, capacity & number of modules of the RAM you have.

  • 990FXA-GD65 BIOS won't remember DRAM settings

    Hi people
have you realised there exists a serious bug that upon you press 'Save & exit' or press F10 to save your settings,
the board won't remember the settings you made
e.g. in order to change DRAM from Auto to DDR3-1333, i gotta perform: set to 1600 first; reboot; set to 1333; reboot
otherwise no matter how many times you press 'Save & exit', DRAM still stays on Auto, which is DDR-1066
Technical support please do look into this issue as it has been so annoying since there is no way to roll back to v19.x BIOS
    Thanks

What BIOS version do you have?
I have come across this bug at 20.2 BIOS, after trying different RAM settings (some times instead of Dual Channel, it was shown as Single too)
    having 20.2 here
i rebooted dozen times problem still persists
finally got the bios memorising function working again by:
turned off pc, power supply > cleared cmos > wait a couple minutes to ensure BIOS date is erased
however i still have a feeling that the 20.x BIOS is not ready

  • 990fxa gd65 Weird Boot Windows 8.1

So, I just upgraded my pc and bought the 990fxa gd65 with fx 8385 CPU. I installed windows 8.1 on my ssd, and set the first boot priority to the ssd.
Here is the weird part. Whenever I start / restart my pc, if I let it to boot automatically from the ssd, I get stucked in a Windows 8 Logo Boot Loop.. BUT if I select my ssd from the boot menu ( by pressing f11), everything works like a charm. This even happened during the auto restarts in the Windows 8.1 installation progress.
I tried see if something in the bios is set incorrectly but couldn't find anything odd. I Even disabled all the boot priorities and left only the ssd active and still the same thing happens.
    Thank you for your time

and if you use F11 instead it load just fine?
    Yes

that's very strange and don't make much sense
    exactly

have you tried different sata port and sata cable for the SSD?
Yup , I've changed both sata ports and cables, multiple times.. Nothing is changing
By the way thank you for your time
EDIT : Ok so , I changed my HDD and tried to install Windows 7 on it, same thing happens.. So its not a disk failure.. Maybe MB is DoA ?

  • 990FXA-GD65 & 970A-g45 Bios Question-HPC

I have 2 systems with pretty close to the same bios Feature. My question is a quick one, and I hope a simple one?
What is HPC-I know it stands for High Performance Computing-I know that it has to do with the throttling, under load.
What is the exact reason for this? Why was it added to the bios? Is this just for FX cpu's
    Looking for a quick rundown.
When enabling in Bios-with everything on default-do you just enable? Do you need to turn anything off-C & Q? or do you just turn in on and go?

HPC locks the multiplier for the CPU at maximum setting so it has no LAG when asked to do a demanding job as its already running at maximum performance levels and doesn't have to wait for the CPU to realize that it needs to up the clocks from idle clocks(powersaving mode) to high performance clocks!
if you want no delay in performance thats what HPC is for as it will hold the CPU at its full clocks all the time...
as for C & Q that should be disabled as it may interfere with HPC mode and continue trying to throttle the CPU to lower clocks and voltages! if C&Q is off just enable HPC and it should function properly!

  • P67A-GD65 new system bios setting recommendations and sata connections

    Hey all,
My old dual core HTPC (after many hours of use) finally gave up the ghost and moved on to the great PC grave yard . I have ordered all the new upgrade parts from Newegg and am looking for recommendations on what bios settings and setup procedures I should use on the initial bootup and Windows load. I'm not looking to overclock I just want a fast stable system for video decoding and playback. It's my understanding from the manual that SATA 1-2 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and 7-8 are controlled by the Marvell chip but I am unsure of SATA 3-6. Can SATA 3-6 do raid 0? I want to use the Crucial SSD as my primary boot drive and the 2 WD drives on raid 0 as my secondary drive. SATA connection advice (which SATA ports) and Raid Bios setting would be helpful. Should I install the raid 0 drives after I have Windows 7 loaded on the SSD? Any other setup advice is appreciated.
    Here is my setup.
    Windows 7 64bit
    Bach HTPC case
    Ultra LSP 750Pro PSU
    Intel i5-2500 3.3G CPU
    MSI P67A-GD65 Motherboard
Sapphire HD5570 1G RT Video Card
Crucial CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 SSD 6.0Gb/s SATAIII (Primary boot drive)
    2 WD3200KS Hard Drives SATA 3.0Gb/s (Raid 0)
    Lite-on 12X Blu-Ray Burner SATA
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Two questions answered. SATA 3-6 are controlled by the Intel P67 chip and do support Raid 0 but I still wonder if I should wait to install the drives until Windows has finished it's install.
SATAIII controller integrated in Intel® P67 & Marvell SE9128 chipsets
    - Up to 6Gb/s transfer speed.
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA1~2) by P67 PCH
    - Supports two SATAIII ports (SATA7~8) by Marvell SE9128
    - SATA1~6 ports support RAID 0/1/5/10 mode by Intel P67 PCH
    - SATA7~8 ports support RAID 0/1 mode by Marvell SE9128

  • Limited vcore 990FXA-GD65

I have a 990FXA-GD65 and from what I can tell there is a revision 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.  What is the best, most accurate way of finding out the revision of the board?  Also, do any of the beta bioses allow more voltage adjustment?  The vcore can only be set to 1.45v in the bios, it can go higher in AMD Overdrive.  I'd like to not use overdrive anymore but the board doesnt allow enough Vcore adjustment for me to do so.

Its been a BIOS restriction for a long time, and it was introduced when the FX8000 series were launched.
These CPUs start spiking to over 200Watt TDP when overclcoking. The board was designed before these CPUs were launched and thus the VRMs are not safe at those power requirement levels. To protect the VRMs from burning up, the restriction was added.

  • 990FXA-GD65 Northbridge Temperature

I've recently bought myself a 990FXA-GD65 and it is all set up now in my rig.
I then went into SpeedFan to check the temperature of my PC and I see that my Northbridge is running at 127°C!
Is this temperature right? Or is this a faulty board?
    Thanks,
    Alex.

Its named "Control Center" not "CoreCenter"

  • 990FXA GD65 CPU voltage reading

Hi,  I Have an MSI 990FXA GD65 with an AMD FX 6100 cpu.
I have been struggling with this board for a while trying to match the voltage I set in the bios to the readings I am getting from CPU-Z and HWMonitor.
at default with CPU voltage set to auto in the bios cpu-Z and HWMonitor show 1.32v at idle and about 1.30v under load with P95, if I set the cpu voltage to 1.4 in bios they show about 1.48 at idle and 1.44 under load.
What puzzles me is that my CPU needs 1.4v in bios to run at 4.2 ghz, this seems to match what a lot of other people are getting with this CPU but if I am to trust CPU-Z's readings then I am needing 1.44v so should I be trusting what I set in the Bios or should I go with CPU-Z and face that I need a lot of volts to run stable and 4.2ghz is as far as I can go.
I also seem to have very low temperatures for running such high voltages, if it's really at 1.48v then surely it should be getting hotter than 46 degrees running P95 even with a corsair H80. Temps were even lower with a thor's hammer in push/pull on there.
For some reason I cannot run MSI ControlCentre in windows 8.1 so I have no idea what that will tell me.
So just joined up here to see if anybody else has the same issue and can give me some advice.
    Thanks,

I have the sunbeam twister 120, and it's AMAZING!  The fans on it rotate in different directions making the airflow VERY quiet even at 3k RPM.  It's a dual fan push pull with 3 DirectCU Healpipes, and an amazingly smooth base.  I purchased mine for just under 30 bucks from Newegg (discontinued on their site) and it allows me to push my AMD Athlon ii X4 640 (3.0Ghz) to 3.8 with a 1v change, and still keeps it around stock temps.  @ 3.5Ghz (what I run @ stable due to motherboard limitations) I hit a max of 40c core temp and an idle of anywhere between 16c-20c.
Stock temps were about 19-21c idle, and 38-40 under load.
Stock cooler was almost 20c more idle, and under load, so this is DEFINITELY a badass cooler.
It also comes with a fairly decent size tube of TX-4 Tuniq paste which is apparently one of the best in the game, so I went ahead, and used some of that on my HIS HD 6850, and I'll be damned, the paste alone dropped my temps enough to get a world record breaking overclock on stock air cooling.  The heatsink also comes with a "RheoSmart" rheostat controller that also plugs into the four, or three pin cpu fan connector, to allow you to switch between manual, or motherboard controller speeds. (Which is pretty awesome IMHO)  I absolutely LOVE this thing, and am 150% confident it'll be able ot cool my 8350 efficiently when I get it (if I don't end up waiting on the Steamroller cpu line.)
This is what you're looking for.  According to several testers across the internet, this is right on par with a V6-V8 cooler...and over 30 bucks cheaper.

This is the validation for my CPU using the paste that comes in the box with the Twister 120 - btw, that's on the standard stock HS...nothing special at ALL.

  • 990fxa GD65 and Sound Blaster Problems

    Hi Everyone,
Upgraded my motherboard to a 990fxa GD65 with 2 XFX hd7970 in Xfire.  Only 1 slot can be used to set up the sound card, which is a SB Titainium Fatality Professional PCIe sound card into PCIe2 slot.  The motherboard see's it, and the device manager see's it.  Even put test sound through the "primary sound device" manager and see the green sound bars move when I select a test sound.  PCIe2 slot should be fine for this card I would assume.  ..........and yes, the boards sound card is disabled in bios.  No conflicts with any other sound drivers or hardware that I can detect.  Any thoughts???????????????????

Quote from: exileLyk on 29-December-13, 18:28:15
This card needs one PCI-E x 1, right?
By that "Only 1 slot can be used to set up the sound card, which is a SB Titainium Fatality Professional PCIe sound card into PCIe2 slot" you mean that you installed your sound card into the second PCI-E x 1 (above the first PCI-E x 16 slot)?
I'm using the same PCI-E x 1 slot for my Sound Blaster Z sound card without a problem, didn't try other slots though.
Correct.  Sound Blaster card in slot #2 which is a PCIe x 1 slot.  Can't put this in any other slot because of the Xfire set up.  PCIe #1 slot can not be used because of the 990 chip set that is right in the way.  It is PCIe slot #2 or nothing.  But, slot PCIe #2 should work without a hitch.  Once again, card works fine.  FUBAR with the motherboard or drivers.  I am putting my chips on drivers.  Or, something is not good with the mobo.

  • Msi 990fxa-gd65 vrm burned , refused rma :(

Hello firstly a happy x-mas to everyone
Let me state my story i bought msi 990fxa-gd65 and amd fx-8120 bulldozer cpu a few weeks back.
i installed it and it ran was very happy for 2 days , then it happened... , seems the vrm's burned !
let me explain you why i think was a faulty board.
when it did ran it gave 1.37volts to cpu at idle , stock 3.1ghz turbo disabled, was all ready high for me , but i thought i will try newer bios later , as wanted to play some bf3.
then i just ran 5min to see if all my memory is working , with blend test, and msi board gave 1.48 volts to cpu all stock settings nothing changed in bios except memory settings o.0
1.48 was why to high looking at other reports etc.
so when in bios to change last setting on my memory , and boom did not boot, try booting it few times, and boom there was smoke , vrms blown , without the pc even booting .
so it seems board and cpu died, they rma the cpu but the board they refused to.
the retail store told me they tried there best and only way i can get rma is with rma number from msi, i logged ticket on msi website no reply yet, hoping this post will get me a reply.
    CPU: fx8120 with noctua d14

  • MSI 990FXA-GD65 + AMD FX-6300 + 16GB 1866MHz RAM Won't Boot

    Hello,
Today I received parts for my new gaming system (sans water cooler, using the stock heatsink+fan until then), however I'm experiencing problems with the setup.  The specs are as follows:
    - MSI 990FXA-GD65
    - AMD FX-6300 CPU
    - GSKILL 16GB (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 RAM
    - Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD
    - 2x MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti
    - EVGA NEX750B1 PSU
    - BitFenix Comrade case
Upon powering on (after assembly), the Phase Indicator only has the first two LEDs lit up (Phase 2 Power Mode, according to the manual).  No output is displayed on screen.  I've tried removing and re-inserting the CPU and removing one of the graphics cards, to no avail.
I would appreciate any help/advise that could be offered, that I might get this system up and running!
    Kind Regards

Try to run this system out of the case on non conductive area (e.g. plain cardboard) with 1 stick of RAM only, 1 GPU (try without any graphics cards too), single HDD/SSD, PSU of course, CPU+cooler and monitor+keyboard and mouse. When booting spam Delete and it should take you to the BIOS where you have to change timings of RAM suggested in the post about GSkill memory.
If possible, borrow different brand of RAM to test your PC with.
Make sure that if you're running single GPU, that video cable is connected to the card. If no GPU, then to the motherboard.

  • 990FXA-GD65 MAINBOARD POWER CONNECTORS

    hi,
I am building a new system using your 990FXA-GD65 board and an AMD 8320 chip.
I am at the part where I must connect power connectors.  I see that there are 3 connectors:  JPWR1,  JPWR2 and PWRCONN1.
My Power Supply has the 24-pin cable for JPWR1 OK.    But it does not have the 8-pin cable for the 8-pin JPWR2.   It only has 2 x 6-pin connectors labelled PCI E1 and PCI E2 and another 2 x 4-pin connectors labelled CPU1 and CPU2.
The power supply I have is a OCZ 700W unit (OCZGXS700) and its about 4 years old.
What to do?  Can I just leave the connector JPWR2 unplugged?  Or will I have to purchase another Power Supply?

connect both 4pin CPU ones to JPWR2 as that is a 4+4 connection and if you look at the pins its 2 identical pin sets as a 4 pin so use both.

No, they don't. If they did, they would have the same name.
    http://us.msi.com/support/mb/990FXAGD65V2.html#down-bios
That should be a link for the 990FXA-GD65V2 bios download page.
Actually they do use the same BIOS. The link you provided stopped at BIOS 19.7 (7640vJ7.zip), BIOS files for the V2 are way out of date but the 990FXA-GD65 has updated BIOS files up to 19.9 (7640vJ9.zip) + K.x for W8. K.x should only be used with W8, not XP or W7.
    http://us.msi.com/support/mb/990FXAGD65.html#support_download
For the FX 8320 CPU you would have needed 19.9 (7640vJ9.zip)
     Funki,
     What OS do you have?

  • 990fxa-gd65

hi i have a msi 990fxa-gd65 whit fx4130 cpu and i wonder why the cpu temp is inkorekt in bios ? can somone tell mi why ?

When you are in your bios at startup, not ClickBiosII, the temp is likely correct but:
Your CPU will be running at max clocks and not running any powersaving feature like Cool and Quiet.  Therefore the temp will be somewhat higher.  On mine it wil run anywhere from 38C to 48C depending on if it was running prior or not.  After windows login, where the power stages are run like C&Q, It will operate like normal and for mne those temps are as low 27C and only ever really get to 45C under some moderate load.  All these tamps are socket temps.  It is no big deal.
