990XA-GD55 - USB bluetooth adapter becomes unrecognised if left plugged in

Hello all, I just bought and set up my new MSI 990XA-GD55 (bios 11.2) with an AMD FX-4100 3.6 GHz and I'm having a really weird problem with my usb bluetooth adapter. If I plug it in after Windows 7 (Pro 64-bit) is loaded it's recognized, installs drivers, etc. and works fine, but if I leave it plugged in and restart the machine the next time Windows loads up it shows as unrecognized until I unplug it and reinsert.
The same bluetooth adapter has been used on my old computer and worked fine attached to an internal usb header cable (which is what I'd like to do with this one). Any ideas?

Did windows do an 'auto' driver install? You might need to go to the manufacturers website for the specific driver package. If only a generic driver is installed, it can make the bluetooth unit do what you are experiencing.
AMD FX-4100 3.60GHz
MSI 990XA-GD55, bios v22.2
G.SKILL  (2 x 4GB) DDR3 F3-17000CL11D-8GBSR
EVGA Nvidia Ge-Force 460 GTX 1 GB RAM
Hitachi 2 TB SATA III, 5400rpm (GPT formatted)
LG Blu-ray RW SATA
Intel Wifi Link 1000 bgn (Mini Pci-E to Pci-e adapter)
Corsair 600Watt PSU (+12V@40A)
Windows 7 Professional sp1 x64
It did do an auto driver install, but it's not just a generic driver. It shows up as an ASUS bluetooth adapter and it works when you plug it in while Windows is running, but when you restart with it plugged it it won't work anymore.

Was that in a home built PC or something like a Dell or Sony?

Which is the oldest, the motherboard or the Windows installation?
They're both the same age, this is a freshly built system. This was the first thing I noticed when I completed Windows setup.

  • Need suggestion for USB Bluetooth Adapter for HP Z230 Workstation

I've just purchased an HP Z230 Workstation, with an I7 processor.  I need to equip it with Bluetooth capability so that I can connect the computer to an old Palm Tungsten T2.
There are gobs of USB 4.0 Bluetooth adapters / dongles on the market, but reading buyer's comments, they all seem to have some type of problem with compatibility or installation issues on something.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a USB Bluetooth adapter that has worked well with the Z230?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • USB Bluetooth adapter stops working after 10.8.5 upgrade

For several months I've been using an IOGear USB Bluetooth adapter and a USB KVM to share my Magic Trackpad between a Mac Mini and a MBP, both machines happily running 10.8.4.
Tonight I upgraded my MBP to 10.8.5 and now Bluetooth is apparently disabled when I have the USB adapter plugged in:
Now I'm left with the unappealing decision of using my Trackpad with only my Mac Mini, my MBP, or constantly repairing it with either to share.
I've been shockingly happy with this little trick, but I guess it was too good to last. Anyone have any ideas why using a USB Bluetooth adapter would stop working? Maybe I need a different adapter now?

Thanks! That solved my problem. I just had to swap in my device id which was different than yours.
I converted my USB adapter's idProduct value from hexidecimal (0x2101) into decimal (8449) and added this configuration:

  • Mac OS 10.5.5 and Belkin USB Bluetooth Adapter

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.5. this morning and upon restart I lost the ability to turn on Bluetooth (Belkin USB bluetooth adapter). The adapter is visible to the computer, but it can no longer be turned on so I can benefit from its use. I checked Belkin's site -- no upgrade there. I believe it is an OS 10.5.5. issue since it worked before the upgrade. I have tried looking at Bluetooth preferences -- the option to turn on is "greyed" out. File Sharing, Network, and Security system preferences were of no help. Anyone have any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi there,
Did you ever resolve this problem, because I am having exactly the same problem with my Intel iMac running 10.5.5 and Belkin F8T012 USB Bluetooth.
I too have found that using "Bluetooth file exchange" seems to turn on Bluetooth, so thanks for that advice, but it's hardly acceptable is it?
I can plug the same USB into my laptop (running 10.4) and it turns on perfectly!

  • USB Bluetooth adapter... WHAT'S GOOD?

Okay, so I've realised that Bluetooth is the only way to sync my SE v630i mobile phone to my Mac.
Now I need to buy a USB Bluetooth adapter, I've seen the D-Link but it's like $80 as opposed to a Tianlang one on eBay for around $7 plus p/h.
Is the D-Link a rip-off? Is the Tianlang a piece of junk (both are Blutooth 1.2)?
Can anyone help me out on this one?
    Thanks... Khyam.

I'm not sure where you've seen the D-Link for $80.
On Amazon.com its $27.99 plus you get a $10 rebate, making it $17.99
    http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DBT-120-Bluetooth-USB-Adapter/dp/B00006B7DB/sr=8-1/ qid=1164375834/ref=pdbbs_sr1/105-9574619-4281210?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
As previously mentioned, the D-Link is the only one officially supported by Apple - they even release firmware updates for this model. There may be others that work, but without trying them, you won't know for sure.
Alot of the cheaper USB Bluetooth adapters will allow you to pair and transfer files, but won't allow a full sync. It's not known why. And they all come with Windows drivers only.
Here's a list of adapters that reportedly don't work fully:
    Belkin F8T012
    Formosa Teletek
    Jensen Blue:Link 201

  • D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter: connecting to headsets or not???

    Hi there!
I want to use a headset with my G5, using a BT USB adapter. Mine doesn't work, so I'm thinking - unhappily - of buying a D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter.
But: in the Apple Store, they say it does not work with headsets!!!
On the other side, people in the board here are claiming that it works, if you apply the firmware updater.
Which one is right??? I can hardly belive that Apple using untrue negatif customer feedback as a marketing strategie... so I'm a bit confused.
==>>> I would like to hear from people who are using the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter if they are able to connect to a headset or not (even people not having a headset can test this, just run the BT hardware wizard, selecting headset, and see if there is the error or not).
    Thanks a lot.
    Gilbert

Using a headset needs several steps even needed if you have the latest computer or Mac OS X release. Please make sure to follow them in order.
Download the Apple Bluetooth Firmware Updater
    Install it
Launch it from Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth Updater
Apply it to your adapter (takes very long).
Start the Apple Bluetooth Assistant and select Headset. Do not use anything else!
Make your headset Bluetooth visible. Look up the manual of your headset how to do that.
Now select the headset in System Preferences > Sound.
In most cases step 3 is missed. You have to start the already installed updater yourself (do not ask me why).

  • Bluetooth hardware failure, cause by using a usb bluetooth adapter

My laptop is MBP 13" early 2011,  after using a usb bluetooth adapter( built-in bluetooth had compatiblity problem with my mobile phone) and unplug it,  and then found the built-in bluetooth is not working any more, it can search devices, but it won't establish connections or pair with other devices.  At firs I thought it was the bluetooth driver or configuration problem, I try to reset factory setting using the develper tool Bluetooth Explorer,  then reset kext file, even tried installing a new lion,  but the problem remains.  So I think it's not driver/configuration problem now, it's hardware failure, but wait.. just caused by using other usb bluetooth adapter?  I really can't understand why apple will let such thing happen....

it turns out the hardware is fine , the problem is solved after resetting SMC : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • USB Speaker & USB Bluetooth Adapter Not Working

    hi there,
my USB external speaker and USB bluetooth adapter (for my plantronics headset) is not working.  I believe this had to do me removing a critical program (from add/remove programs) about half a year ago - i can no longer do a system recovery to retrieve the program.  I'm currently operating on windows 7x64-bit.  all drivers are up to date and working.  the usb drives work fine - i've tried testing each slot by  connecting my external mouse and all seems functional.  it's only when i plug in the external speaker or usb bluetooth adapter that things go wrong - see screen shots below.  my internal speaker and internal mic work perfectly fine.  it appears to be only an issue with usb audio-related devices.  these devices work with other systems and computers, so i know that it is not the device itself.  i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling conexant audio, but that did not work.  i've gone into the device manager and all looks ok there. i've disabled and renabled, updated all drivers, and still nothing....any help would be much appreciated.
thanks so much for any help or guidance you can provide.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it pair/work in the new account?

  • Driver Install Failure (Bluetooth Device: Broadcom BCM20702A0/Kinivo 4.0 USB Bluetooth Adapter)

About a week ago I purchased the Kinivo BTD-300 4.0 USB Adapter from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-BTD-400-Bluetooth-4-0-adapter/dp/B007Q45EF4). When I go into the control panel it shows up as a Broadcom device. I have ran the software available on the disk and installed it multiple times and downloaded drivers straight from the Kinivo and Broadcom website and installed both of those to no avail. I have successfully connected my phone with the device, but since then it has shown up with the troubleshooting symbol. I have also ran the Microsoft Fixit and HP Troubleshooter which both came up as a driver error, but when downloaded it would come up as "Driver install failed". I've tried all of these steps multiple time with the error everytime. Any possible fix or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    JJ H

    Hello @leafgreen7,
I understand that you are having issues getting the Kinivo BTD-300 4.0 USB Adapter to work on your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1124 Desktop PC running Windows 7 and having no luck. As it is the driver that will not install I would advise you to contact Kinivo at their Support Site as they will have more specific information on what can interfere with their drivers installing.
I hope  this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • D-Link DBT-122 USB Bluetooth Adapter - how to make it support 2 devices?

For Macs not originally equipped with Bluetooth hardware Apple used to recommend purchasing D-Link's DBT-120 (rev. B or later). If I understand correctly, after pluggin-in the device it was necessary to run Apple's Bluetooth Firmware update 1.3.3 to get it working.
The DBT-120 device may still be available for purchase in some parts of the world but in Europe D-Link is now selling the replacement DBT-122 (no revision is indicated). The device is advertised as being 'Mac-compatible (check, for instance, http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=gNTyP9CgrdFOIC4AStFCF834mptYKO9ZTdvhLPG3yV3oVIF+h6ltb NlwaaFp6DQoHDrqyyRF/okIB9vv ).
My problem is after having plugged-in my brand new DBT-122 onto an USB port of my 'old' G4 eMac, I can get my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse working, or my Bluetooth Apple Keyboard working, BUT NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. When I have them both connected, disconnections occur all the time (either the mouse or the keyboard, apparently at random).
Tried to run Bluetooth Updater 1.3.3 but the thing tells me that there is no Bluetooth device to update. I suppose it is loooking for a DBT-120 and I have a DBT-122.
Anyone with a suggestion on anything I should try to have both my mouse and keyboard working via my new bluetooth adpater?
(No use to contact D-Link support, they don't know anything about Macs and the only thing they have been instructed to respond is 'its an Apple problem'. And they charge you for that - the hotline is expensive!)
    Cheers

    Hi,
i'm having the same problem. The Apple Store recommends purchasing the D-Link DBT-120, but doesn't actually sell it since it has been superceded by the DBT-122 in Europe. Apple should know this. While D-Link market the DBT-122 as the replacement for the DBT-120 that is also compatible with Macs, from what i have been able to find out the 120 and the 122 use different chipsets and OSX cannot recognize all the features of the DBT-122's firmware. That is also why OSX's firmware updater software doesn't work with the DBT-122.
Like you, i can get the DBT-122 to work with either the keyboard or mouse but not both at the same time.
In any case even if you got both the keyboard and mouse working wirelessly there would be no way of waking the computer from sleep since the 'allow bluetooth device to wake computer from sleep' option is greyed out - this is only available if the firmware is supported. Presumably Apple will have to release software to support the DBT-122, if the earlier model is no longer in production. I think both Apple and D-Link are at fault here.

  • D-Link DBT-120 USB bluetooth adapter.

Hi all, does anyone know please if the led(s) on this should light up when it is inserted into a USB socket? I've tried several sockets on 2 macs, re-starts etc. but get "no bluetooth h/w" message. I wonder if the led should come on as soon as it's plugged in, and the fact that it doesn't means it's defective? TIA - Terry.

    I have the same problem...
I plug in the external DBT-120 and it just seems as though the built-in bluetooth takes over... ie - the light don't come on.
(ps, they should come on to indicate that the device is working, because mine has worked in the past, taking over the built-in BT but at seemingly random intervals, the dongle cuts out and I get the "bluetooth unavailable" symbol in the menubar)

  • Satellite A500-011 PSAR0C-01100D - internal Bluetooth adapter

I have Satellite A500-011 PSAR0C-01100D, I'm looking for an internal Bluetooth PCI adapter that slides in, on the side of the laptop into the pci card slot. without opening the computer)
Can someone help me find the part number ?
I remember seeing it in the toshiba site,a while back, but not there anymore, can't find it. I would like to order one.
i have an external USB Bluetooth adapter but it's a bit flaky and it sticks out and gets caught in the bag etc.
There is a internal module available but I don't want to open up the case and damage it.
    thanks

*Replacing Wireless Card with WiFi & BT Combination Card.*
Hopefully it will be compatible with the computer. Make sure that it is half PCI-e size.
Example of what it should look like: http://www.compactpci-systems.com/products/id/?45200
First, the laptop should be placed bottom side up to expose the doors.
The centre most door that uses one screw to open should be the one to open.
When open, you should see the RAM exposed.
In addition to this, there is the wireless modem card.
Unscrew two 2.5x3 screws that secure the card.
    Remove from the slot.
Take the Wireless WiFi & BT combination card, and slip it into the slot.
    Secure with the two screws.
Close the lid, and secure with screw.
Install any necessary software and drivers. . .
    *For dedicated BT:*
For A500 models, you need a version 2.1 + EDR (antenna on mobile type) model for bluetooth.
This would involve removing the keyboard and acccessing the top of the motherboard; a more intriciate process.

    Hi adam,
I'm running 64bit Arch on a Studio 1557 with an integrated usb bluetooth adapter (BCM2046).
In 2011 I had the very same problem you describe and got it fixed. Let me explain:
The bluetooth adapter has 2 modes of operation: HID mode and HCI mode.
In HID mode, it presents itself as a keyboard/mouse input device (in your case 413c:815[8/7]).
This allows you to use e.g. a bluetooth mouse that has been paired earlier - even if your OS doesn't support bluetooth.
In HCI mode, the device presents itself as a regular bluetooth adapter which can be used by your bluetooth stack (e.g. bluez) - that's what we want.
The problem back in 2011 was, that my adapter would default to HID mode and to switch it to HCI mode I had to use the 'hid2hci' tool (now part of bluez-utils).
For some time now bluez ships a udev rule which takes care of switching modes so everything worked flawlessly.
A couple of weeks ago, however, the problem resurfaced and I haven't found a fix yet.
I noticed that the udev rule isn't triggered anymore and running hid2hci (/lib/udev/hid2hci) manually doesn't work either (gives an error saying 'unable to handle [devpath]').
The only way to use the bluetooth adapter in arch for me is to boot Windows inside a Virtual machine, attach the USB touchpad device (the HID proxy) and let Windows switch it to HCI mode.
This, however, only lasts until I reboot/resume from standby.
I believe this regression was caused by a package upgrade, since an older arch installation I had lying around still recogniced the adapter while an up-to-date installation wouldn't.
Unfortunately, said lecacy installation is now gone and downgrading arch to a point before the regression doesn't seem feasible.
Any suggestions are more than welcome!
    So long,
    rev
