-9972 upon trying to verify harddrive (Kernal panic linked...)
Hey everyone, I having a major kernalpanic that I am having major trouble repairing. I tried running first aid (I do not own Disk warrior- and I'm on a student budget) and it was not able to successfully verify and repair my disk. I was returned the code -9972. Does anyone know what this code means? I am able to access my drive through another computer via firewire. When accessing the drive through firewire mode, everything appears to be fine (all files are in tact). Please help! Of coarse, your time is GREATLY appreciated.
Best,
John

I'd copy or backup them asap.
What does DU say when run from the other computer?

After install of Mavericks, it looks like my system kernal panics and just sits there. I tried waiting over two nights. Tried reinstalling twice, booting ro the repair partition and repairs permissions/drive/verify , with no problems. Tried reseting PVRAM(or whateverit called). Recovery partition now has Mavericks as OS. Im running a iMac i3 27 inch circa 2011. Any ideas? Can still bootcamp into windows.
Thank youbhadotia wrote:Anyway's the file downloaded from dell to update the partition for Studio 1555 is corrupted (checksums don't match). My partition still doesn't boot. I'm working to fix this and will update my post when I'm done.
The file seems to create the CD/DVD/Image and USB just fine. So I used this only to create a CD image which I then wrote on a blank CD which seems to work fine. Also, I played around a bit and had some partial success in booting the partition. I've updated my original opening post with the new findings.
Whew!! what a waste of time! Never want to do all of this again .

Kernal Panic upon Boot from Server OSX 10.4 Install DVD Disk
I'm getting Kernal Panic upon booting from Server OSX 10.4 Install DVD Disk.
I wanted to statup from the install DVD to do a repair permissions and repair disk and i'm getting a kernal panic screen. Anyone know why?
Using a Dual 2.3 GHz Power PC G5, OSX 10.4.10, working fine.
Will no longer boot from dvd disk, not even install cds.
Tried other macs same deal, I can't belive that both sets of disks went bad.
Dual 2.3 GHz Power PC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.10) 2 GB SDRAMHi moeminator-
You can start the server in FireWire target disk mode and use the drive in the Power Mac to do the deed.

Trying to find source of Macbook Pro Retina kernal panics (system report in post)
My Macbook Pro Retina running Mountain Lion has at least one kernal panic a day. Sometimes the wallpaper resets to default. It only happens while it's asleep and I have only ever once caught it on the error screen (meaning it's not happening as I wake it up but rather while the screen is off). I have had my computer and this problem for a while so I finally tried taking it to Apple to resolve the problem. It's been confirmed twice not to be a hardware problem and I have had the entire logic board replaced.
All other threads seem to say the problem is bluetooth but I never use bluetooth and it is always off. I DID do a full system reset and the problem went away but restoring the computer from time machine brought it back after a couple days. Is there any way of figuring out what software is causing the problem? Is there a way to use time machine to migrate applications and files to a reset computer instead of doing a full system recover and would that possibly fix the problem?
I would like to avoid updating to the newest OS if possible for reasons.

Kernal Panic upon waking from sleep
Has anyone had an issue with kernal panics upon opening the macbook pro after it has been sleeping for a bit. It seems to happen when the computer is closed and I open it and it has been unplugged and then plugged in right when the computer is turned on it kernal panics, below is the entire error log, not sure if this will help anyone help me find a solution to this very annoying problem! Any help would be appreciated and I am curious if others have this issue. I am hoping that it is something that I can fix though..
Thanks!

It seems as if I have the computer closed for an extended period of time, I would get an immediate kernel panic when I opened up the computer. So far, according to my panic.log, i have had 9 such crashes.
I did a reset of the PMU, disabled hibernatemode and none of that solved the problem. I'll try reinstalling everything (next week after I get my new external HD) and see if that solves the problem. Maybe this is caused by a hardware flaw? It just recently started to happen, and when I first got my MBP, this type of crash didn't happen. Other than that, my computer has been perfectly stable. Here's a sample of my panic.log

Getting kernal panic when trying to install OS after HDD install
I just replaced the HD in an iBook G3 I have laying around with a toshiba 40gb. The install went fine and I formatted it in disk utility using mac os x extended (journaled). I ran it for errors and it checked out fine. I also ran the apple hardware test CD and everything checked out there too.
The problem is I am getting a kernal panic no matter what I do. I started off installing 10.3 and the first disc installs fine, but then when it restarts it gets an instant kernal panic. I tried 10.4 with the same results. Then I tried the 10.2 discs that the iBook came with and it would get the very last step of the install on the 1st disc and would not go any farther. It said "one minute remaining" for over an hour.
I have taken a picture of the error log that shows up and you can see it at the following link:
The top line got cut off but it says "panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook4,3"
Like I said, everything checks out hardware wise and i have tried three different versions of OS X. I'm at a loss of what to do so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!Did you format the hard drive before attempting the installation(s)?
In order to format the hard drive:
Start up from the Install disc by holding down the c key as the startup chime is ending. Hold down the c key until you see the progress indicator (which looks like a spinning gear).
In Tiger, select the language and continue. (In Panther, click continue, but do not go further.)
In Tiger, go to the Utilities menu (in Panther, the Installer menu) and open Disk Utility.
Click on the top hard drive icon in the left side panel.
Choose the "Partition" tab in order to format the drive to a single partition.
Click the Options button.
For PowerPC Macs, choose "Apple Partition Map." For Intel Macs, choose "GUID Partition Table."
Click OK.
Choose to format as one partition.
Name the hard drive by typing the name in the "Name" field.
Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Volume Format.
Click on the "Partition" button.
Choose Erase tab.
Select the named volume of your hard drive in the left-side panel. (The hard drive icon which appears under the top hard drive icon.)
Click "Erase."
The hard drive is now ready for the installation of the OS.
Go to First Aid Tab and Repair Disk, then Repair Disk Permissions.
Quit Disk Utility.
Be certain to use either the install discs that came with the iBook or a retail version of the later OS. Installation discs made for other Mac models may not work on the iBook.
Good luck. -

So the mac book pro reboots, and at the end of the startup I get a kernal panic.

Hello Apple pros! My iBook G3 running 10.4.8 works flawlessly as long as I don't put it to sleep. If it sleeps, say overnight, I get a kernal panic as soon as I open the lid. I have to restart by holding the power button down. It restarts fine. I have tried MacJanitor, Cocktail, Techtool Deluxe, Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, re-install the OS from the original disk. There are no peripherals attached to the machine. Disk Warrior told me the first time that I ran it that my original directory was too damaged to replace with a new one. I ran it again and it created a new directory that I was able to use as a replacement. This started all of a sudden for no apparent reason and it doesn't do it all of the time. I updated to Tiger back in July with no problems. I am only using 70% of my disk space and I have 640 mb of ram. The logs all start off with "unresolved kernal trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - data access DAR=..." Should I head off to the Genius Bar or can I resolve this issue myself? Is this a hardware or software issue?
iBook G3 14 inch Mac OS X (10.4.8) MacBook Intel core duoHave you tried resetting the PMU? The PMU (Power Management Unit) has control over sleep issues, so resetting it may help.
If that doesn't help (and it may not), try removing the extra RAM, and see if that stops the kernel panics. RAM which has failed is one of the most common causes of kernel panics. If RAM turns out to be the problem, many vendors have a lifetime warranty on RAM. -
Kernal Panic in Late 2010 MacBook Air...on Shutdown
I have tried several sources of information in Apple Discussions to try to address this problem but to no avail (including the link to debug kernal panics). I have a late 2010 MacBook Air (4GB RAM 1067 DDR runing 10.8.5--the SSD drive is an OWC 240 GB Aura Pro made especially for the late 2010 MBAs) which is now experiencing kernal panics on every other shutdown (Shutdown only). I have reset the PRAM and SMC which seemed to work for awhile, but then it went back to frequent kernal panics on shutdown a day or so after resetting the PRAM/SMC. I have repaired disk permissions and also deleted old programs, but again to no avail. I am enclosing a copy of the Kernal Panic, and if anyone has any suggestions at this point, I would greatly appreciate it as I can't afford an expensive repair at this point. Also, is there anyway I can test if my memory and SSD harddrive are still ok?
Thanks very much,
Rob

Kernal panic error - Etrecheck report inside
So I just tried upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion and got the dreaded kernal errors upon reboot. From reading these posts, it seems 3rd party software may be the problem.
I ran Etrecheck, but I can't decipher it enough to figure out where my problem lies.
Can someone walk me through the problem here, and how to rid it?

24" iMac refurb - kernal panic after apple logo
I received a refurbished 24" C2D iMac on Friday and it seemed to be in perfect condition. Everything worked, and all of the updates were applied.
Upon returning to the office on Monday, there was a kernal panic when awakening it. It also consistently panics at the blue screen before "Loading Mac OS X..." and after the gray apple logo screen.
Starting in safe mode works fine. Starting from CD works fine.
I have wiped the drive and reloaded OS X 10.4.7, with no change, and have updated to 10.4.8 and all the latest updates (including airport 2007_002), with no change.
Apple Hardware Test from the install CD shows that everything checks out ok. The hard drive also passed all tests. I have tried each RAM module separately.
The panic.log file indicates that there may be an issue with the video card:
"invalid frame pointer" and
"Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependecies):
com.apple.GeForce(4.3.8)@0x2c0e6000"
Is there anything I can to single out the video card? Should I just put it back in the box and return it?First, I'd check this to see if the firmware is actually updated:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imacefifirmwareupdate11.html
If not, read the read-me information available. It may be that upon restart you didn't hold down the button long enough for the indicator light to start flashing, which is the beginning of the actual installation (separate matter from the download). Remember that AirPort is an application, and preferably should be turned off post-download, pre-installation, for installation to be trouble-free. -
MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 2,3Ghz - Random Kernal Panics
Have random kernal panics on my MacBook Pro.. Often when useing more more than one app but it still happens randomly tho.
Have tried different harddrives, re-installed mavericks, memtest on bootable cd for 12h, smc fancontrol with higher rpm settings.
Original ram. Not that high temps.
Anyone have an idea what the issue could be?
Sorry for my english. Thnx.

Kernal Panic Cost Me Money and No Cure
Hi All
There is a history to this problem and so I will try and set it out so it is easy to read:
Macbook Pro Unibody Late 2008 and early 2009. 2.4 Ghz, 4 gig ram upgraeded from 2 gb in 2009 and woked fine since. Did have OSX 10.5.8
1. For a few months in 2012 I had a problem where I kept getting a kernal panic on boot up BUT I lived with it as I could do a PRAM reset or remove battery and put back in and usuallly worked
2. Late 2012 - problem becoming very frequent and so I run lots of diagnostics online hardware test and everything listed on previous posts......no obvious problem
3. In December I decided to get an SSD and installed this however still getting intermitant problem afer initail success
4. After I had tested without I added old hardrive to dvd bay and still intermitant problem but no chnge from when without adding old harddrive
5. I took to a shop to sure it
6. They said they could not find problem but then fixed the chip [suspicious as to what fixed I think they just installed lion] and installed Lion and working but that they had disabled the old drive and said my warranty would tun out if i reconnected - now I am confident that nothing to do with my old drive.
7. I got it back after paying over £100 and looked like it was working at first.
8. I reconnected mu old hard drive and still working no problem
9. I installed live and still working ok
10. I had bought a apple super drive for loading dvds etc and tried to connect - no success - but the guy at the shop said he had connected a dvd drive no problem
11. After a bit oif reseach i discovered that apple in their wisdom disable apple super drvie from macbook pro that origianally had an internel dvd
12. I opened up /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and chaned to:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>mbasd=1</string>
</dict>
</plist>
basically add the mbasd=1 into the <string>
Now this worked fine but when I first tried to do it I struggled as there is no password set on my mac the guy at shop removed and so i had to add it - this caused a kernal panic at first but then it was ok again
13. I loaded Logic Pro from my super drive
14. Not work initially so download updates etc
15. Logic works great
16. At some point it sarted getting kernal panics again and getting as bad as before
17. I disconnect my old har drive and still getting kernal problems
18. Safe mode has worked a couple of times and once just hung with spinning thing
19. I probably need to get my money back from the guy who tried to fix it but more importantly - I would prefer to get another 2 years out of this macbook pro rather than having to buy a new one or even switching windows etc...
I have so kernal paics below - if anyone could shed any light I would be very gratefull as I have spent far too much time and money on trying to rescue this macbook pro.

com.apple.kext.AppleMatch 1.0.0d1Do a search of this forum for "Problems with Seagate 750GB XT series drive". There is a long thread on users of 2009 MBPs that had many problems with that series drive Until they Replaced the drive cable. Other have posted to that thread with the exact model number of the Updated cable.
It can be found online at places like iFixit.com and maybe OWC, macsales.com.
Funny part about that thread is there was more then one user that kept sending the Seagate drives back to Seagate as defective, Many of them, over and over and that just can't happen. I always contended that it was not a drive problem but a Computer problem. After the original poster, and others that were having the same problems, replaced the cable they never had another problem. -
Kernal Panic early in boot up.
Got myself a brand spankin new MBP 15in 2.4 the other day!
But, first time bootin the sucker up, got a kernal panic not 2 seconds into boot. Didn't even get past the white screen with the apple logo. Hm... Not a good sign... Especially when you're booting it up for the first time at the apple store
Ok, shut down, boot up again. Oh! Kernal panick again. Hmmmm... Shut down, boot up. No problems this time.
So I thought, well, I guess that's that.
Then just last night, tried booting up again, got the same kernal panic at early boot.
So I figure it's probably only when the computer is cold booting. Which seems to me like it would be some kind of hardware issue.
Good thing for me I got AppleCare after learning my lesson with a harddrive on a powerbook but I wanted to see what everyone else thinks of this just for my knowledge.
Laptop is sitting in my car right now, off, hopefully cold enough so that when I go to the Apple store later today it'll panic for the nice guys at the store.
By the way, this is the first product I got with AppleCare, am I supposed to set up some kind of appt. with them or can I just show up?
Message was edited by: Musashi StrebeWell, I took it back to the store to get it exchanged, but they decided to run an Airport upgrade that apparently isn't released through software update... AirportExtremeUpdate2007004.dmg is the file.
So far, no kernal panics... and it's been 2 weeks. Granted, I don't shut down my computer often now that I've completely transferred from my old powerbook.
The laptop does freeze occasionally coming out of sleep, I don't think it's a related issue, but I'll search on it anyway. -
I'm having kernal panics even in single user mode
My new Mac Pro has been having kernal panics left and right. I've done everything suggested here plus everything the Apple people have been telling me to do both on the phone and at the local Apple store. Nothing helps and the last call I made the Apple tech suggested I install a new hard drive which he is sending me. I also have his extension number so I can call him when the install is done. In the meantime while I'm waiting for the new hard drive I manage to reinstall the system after a couple of tries and just for grins boot into single user mode and let the computer sit for awhile. When I get back I find the computer has once again crashed and this one line stands out "simple lock deadlock detection". What this means I have no clue but I'm beginning to suspect what I have is a real lemon. If anyone has some insight they'ld like to share on this I'm open to suggestions.
P.S. And just to let you know I've done the following:
1. I've booted into safe boot mode and it crashes
2. I've booted off the install DVD and let it stand and it crashes
3. I've disconected everything but the mouse and keyboard and it crashes
4. I've reinstalled the system numerous times and it still crashes
5. I've taken it to the local Apple store where they replaced the memory and it still crashes
6. I've called the Apple help line and followed their suggestions which included unplugging the computer for 15 seconds to clear the SMU and it crashes even worse.
7. I've zapped the pram and reset the nvram and it still crashes
8. Even when I left it at the local Apple Store where they used their monitor, mouse, keyboard, and power cord it still crashes
9. It crashes on startup from time to time
10. And last but not least it crashes in single user mode even though I've done fsck -fy and then let it just sit
11. Oh yes and one more thing, the crashes are completely random and unpredictable.
Mac Pro duel core intel xeon 2.66mhz Mac OS X (10.4.9)Well I finally resolved my issue, hopefully. Upon installing the new hard drive I had no problems for a week or so and decided to add a second drive and put my old system on it and see what would happen when I booted from the second drive. All went well for a week and then boom the crashes began again. I then switched back to the new drive with the fresh system and all went well for a little over a week when boom the panics returned. I called Apple and they made an appointment for me at the local Apple store. After looking at my files which included about 7 phone calls and several visits to the Apple store the best solution was a brand new Mac Pro. All this has been covered under warranty which is awesome. The only crashing I've had to date had to do with something called "mdimportserver" whatever that is. I also can only use one ethernet connector which is strange. I figured it might have to do with the new hard drive so I booted over to the old drive and everything is working fine except for the ethernet port which I haven't tried yet. I figure for now it's best to let that sleeping dog alone since everything else is working so good. When I'm sure this new Mac is working ok I'll wipe the new drive and use Super Duper to clone this system over rather than use Apple's migration assistant which evidently didn't do such a good job of migrating my system over. I'll let you all know how it goes several weeks from now hopefully.
