9i and 10g Clients install

Hello,
I want to have two versions of Oracle Client on my computer.
The OS is WinXP and the database is 10.2 version.
I've installed 9i Client and it's working. Then I've tried with 10g. I chose different home directory and gave it a different name. But the Assistant stopped at Net Service Configuration step. What can be going on? Can I do something with it?
Thanks in advance
Aliq

Well, I didn't notice one thing. It's all ok now.

  • Active ODP when both 9 and 10g are installed...

I have both ODP 9i and ODP 10g (along with the Oracle 10g client) installed on my workstation. How does one set up one or the other to be the 'active' ODP client? For instance, I have an application that I developed under ODP 9i... because I developed this under ODP 9, I want it to run under ODP 9 on my or anyone else's workstation. However, when I view it in the Visual Studio 2003 IDE, it shows ODP 10 as the 'active' client. Even when I run it, I find it is using ODP 10 (I know this because I have a Help...About screen in my runtime that displays the loaded assemblies) Even if I install it on a plain workstation (i.e. no Visual Studio 2003) with both 9i and 10g installed, and even though it was fully compiled using 9i, it still shows up as using the 10g ODP client. I don't want that at this time - if I compile it under 9i I want it to use Oracle 9i... Otherwise, what is the sense of having both clients on the machine?
So.... bottom line... is there a way to set one of the ODP clients to be 'active' even though both clients are installed?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

    Hi,
By default, ODP installs publisher policy files to redirect to the latest version of ODP, which would make an app compiled with 92x odp use the 10x odp instead. If you dont want that to happen, delete the oracle.dataaccess publisher policy files from the GAC, but then you'll get no redirection at all. IE, you'll have to have the exact version the app was compiled with on that box to run the app.
Or, as msolnit pointed you to above, there's an article on the MS site that explains more about it, and other ways to prevent it on a per-application basis (see the Bypassing Publisher Policy section of that article)
    Cheers, hope it helps.

  • Co-existing 9i and 10g clients

I have a mobile application running on about 300 9i Lite clients on WinCE 3.01 syncing over GPRS with 9i Mobile Server and a 9i database. I'm planning to upgrade the clients to a WM5/6 device and want to avoid a big bang cutover.
My initial thought is to upgrade Mobile Server to 10gR3, keeping 9i DB and the existing devices on 9i Lite. I would then introduce 10g Lite clients in phases so that the 9i Lite clients would be replaced over a couple of months.
I've had various reponses from Oracle about how well 9i and 10g clients will co-exist against a 10g Mobile Server - the summary of which is that it should work but it's not recommended or supported.
Does anyone have experience of whether this is a viable production solution during the transition period? Or are there any better ways to do a phased client cutover?
    Thanks.

I am in a similar predicament at the moment as well. I know they can co-exist, but I have run into issues on a win32/webtogo platform. I will update this post if I find a bullet proof way of doing it.

  • 10g client install -- "Error in accessing system registry"

Yes, I am the administrator - there is just one account on my machine and it is me.
I am attempting to install 10g client in hopes of fixing another problem. Everything is a problem it seems.
    When I launch setup.exe I get ...
"Error in accessing system registry. You may not have enough permissions to modify registry. Installation cannot continue."
My environment is ... Windows 7 Pro, I do have an Oracle Express Edition installed but since I am having a 32-bit vs. 64-bit issue with an app I am developing in C# 2008 Express, I thought I would try installing the 64-bit 10g standard edition client.

    I didn't know this about Windows 7...
    http://www.blogsdna.com/2168/windows-7-how-to-open-elevated-command-prompt-with-administrator-privileges.htm
I had to open a command prompt with Administrator privileges. I was tipped off by your link which had paragraph 1.4 Managing User Accounts with User Account Control and states,
To ensure that only trusted applications run on your computer, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7 provide User Account Control. If you have enabled this security feature, then, depending on how you have configured it, Oracle Universal Installer prompts you for either your consent or your credentials when installing Oracle Database. Provide either the consent or your Windows Administrator credentials as appropriate.
You must have Administrator privileges to run some Oracle tools, such as Database Configuration Assistant, Net Configuration Assistant, and OPatch, or to run any tool or application that writes to any directory within the Oracle home. If User Account Control is enabled, and you are logged in as the local Administrator, then you can successfully run each of these commands in the usual way. However, if you are logged in as "a member of the Administrator group," then you must explicitly invoke these tasks with Windows Administrator privileges. All the Oracle shortcuts that require Administrator privileges will be invoked as "Administrator" automatically when you click the shortcuts. However, if you run the above tools from a Windows command prompt, you must run them from an Administrator command prompt. OPatch does not have a shortcut and has to be run from an Administrator command prompt.
I followed the instructions concerning the elevated command prompt and then tried the Oracle 10g standard edition client install. I got past the registry problem but then I ran into a Universal Installer 10.2 problem. A window popped up stating, "Abnormal program termination. An internal error has occurred. Please provide the following files to Oracle Support:"
    "Unknown"
    "Unknown"
    "Unknown"
Maybe that is due to 10g not being supported on Windows 7. So NOW I will try 11gR2. :-)

  • Perl and Oracle Client Install

    Hi,
When installing the Oracle Client on user machines, does it not install Perl as well? Something like $ORACLE_HOME/perl/.....
I am installing the client and I am not seeing this. Or this only for the non-client versions?
By the way I am installing Oracle 10gR1 (10.2.0.1)

Ya I did the client install as well and noticed that I had it as well, but for the client install on 10gR1 it is not. This is weird. Basically I am trying to apply a patch using OPatch and it keeps saying that Perl is needed. When I downloaded the Perl manually, it still said that it could not reconize Perl. Any thoughts?

  • Mobile devlopment workstation and Mobile client install on same server

    Hi,
Can we install Mobile development workstation and mobile client on same server?
I have already installed mobile development workstation , but when i try to install mobile client on same server it says that add, remove ,modify option install screen. It lis not allowing me to enter new screen.
    Any idea.

When you install the MD Workstation you are opted to choose among different applications i.e. mobile sales, mobile service, mobile system maintenance or authorization management tool. You can there choose the application to install besides the installation of the MD Workstation.
If you want to add application(s) later, you have to choose 'modify' and choose all parts for the MD Workstation plus the applications. If you omit options chosen before when doing the first installation then these will be removed. So be shure to choose ALL relevant things for the application as well as for the MD Workstation.
You can also generate the application from the installed repository, there are several notes on this subject available ('how to generate an application') which are referred to in about any installation guide or note changing the msa coding.

  • Oracle 10G client Install on Windows

We recently had our Oracle client upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10G. Now when we sign into the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, select a user schema and right click on a table to View/Edit Contents, the records display but when i select a record and try to right click to Add Row / Delete all i get is a solid gray bar, so i can't delete the record. I am thinking this may be a permission problem of how the client was installed, but have no idea where to start. Any help from anyone will be greatly appreciated.

  • 10g Client install hangs

Anyone have issues installing the 10g release 2 client? The install begins, but hangs when the UI should popup and then nothing......

According to your post, I imagine the graphical environment is not launched, only the prerrequisite checking text mode window. Check your environment variables, i.e. PATH, CLASSPATH, and make sure the JVM included with the OUI is invoked first. If you have any other incompatible java environment, it will prevent OUI from being launched.

<p>One way to install the missing packages is to open a terminal session as root and enter this on the command line:</p>

  • Windows 2003 64 bit and Oracle Client install issues

A bit of background. We are a Microsoft shop using SQL Server 2005 / Windows 2003 64 bit servers. We need to have ODBC drivers and Oracle OLE provider to connect and transfer data vis SSIS.
We have installed a package (ODAC10203x64.zip) for OADC 10.0.2.3 which we downloaded from the Oracle website.
We see the software in the program file group. We cannot find the Oracle ODBC drivers, also can't find the Oracle OLE Provider. However the Oracle installation package shows the Oracle OLE Provider has been installed even though we cannot find it anywhere.
    Any suggestions?

  • Multiple Oracle Home support 9i and 10g

  • Oracle 10g Client and ODAC Side-By-Side

Hi there, I was unable to find an answer to my query by using search, but apologies if this is a double-post.
I'm having some issues with a ASP.NET application running on a Windows XP Pro machine. The machine has Oracle 10g client installed (oraClient10g_home1), and also ODAC (ODACHome2).
The part of my web application that accesses our Oracle DB (10g), always gets a ORA-12154 error when it tries to connect, but SQL*Plus and tnsping for this TNS both work on the machine.
When I use tnsping from the command line it looks like its using parameter files from the ODAC home, rather than the 10g client home.
On my development machine (where ODAC is not installed), the application works fine.
Does anyone have any idea if there are any issues having both of these clients installed?
Or otherwise where my problem could be?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    James Simm

Thanks for the link, however it hasn't solved my issues:
The version of ODP.Net installed is 10.2.0.2.20, and the Oracle Client is 10.2, so according to that link it should be able to automatically switch between Oracle Homes.
The application I'm troubleshooting doesn't actually use ODP.Net, it uses System.Data.OracleClient, but ODP.Net is required for another application.
I'm extremely stuck, as I cannot understand why I'm getting ORA-12154 when every other Oracle application on the machine can access it.
Please let me know if there are any other things I can try, or if you need any information from me?
    Thanks in advance,
    James Simm

  • Oracle 10g client and Outlook Address Book

I have looked everywhere that I can think of, and nobody seems to have an answer to this problem. I support an extensive VB6 application, and one piece of functionality, which has been working without problems using Oracle 8i and 9i client, is now having problems when we use it on a client with 10g client installed.
The functionality in question is the ability to click a button that opens the user's Outlook Global Address Book, and return the e-mail address of the address selected. When the application is initially opened, the address book opens without problem. Once the user connects to Oracle (from within the application), from that point on, until the application is closed and restarted, clicking the button to open the address book produces the not-so-helpful error message "This application has failed to start because BJABLR32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." The .dll is present, and the error only occurs AFTER an Oracle connection has been opened. I'm using an ADODB connection to connect to Oracle.
I have tried closing the connection, and setting the connection object to nothing, but this doesn't seem to make any difference. The Oracle connection appears to be working fine, the recordsets that are returned have the correct data in them, and updates perform correctly as well.
I have a sample application (about 175 lines of code) that I can use to consistantly reproduce the error.
If anyone can shine some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. If this needs to be posted to a different forum, please let me know that as well. This forum seemed to be the closest match that I could find for this problem.

I am having the same problem, did you find an answer? other than resetting the Path, I shouldn't change all the client machines path
