9i application server and oracle 7.3.3.5

we are planning to deploy 9i application server and have an origin database(8.1.6). however we have an old database(7.3.3.5) running on IBm mainframe and I am wondering wilkl it be possible to access that database using 9i application server. if yes, pls. help.
Thanks---

We have developed several form apps using the products in
question. We have experianced minor GUI problems but many of
these had patches. You can check by going to: ftp://oracle-
ftp.oracle.com/dev_tools/patchsets/dev2k/Win95NT/2.1/
I never experianced the scroll-bar problem the first response
talks about, not saying it isn't possible. Possibly a different
database platform.
All in all we have had good luck with the applications, little
bit of a setup learning curve, but once we were up and running
we produced some very effective web applications.

  • Application Server and Oracle Apps - basic doubts

    Hello
    I am pretty new to Oracle 9iAS and Oracle Apps 11i
    Please clarify my basic doubts
    Read that Oracle9i AS Components are :
    - J2EE and Internet Applications (sub-components are Oracle HTTP Server, OC4J, Web services etc)
    - Portals
    - Wireless
    - Web cache
    - Business Intelligence
    - E-Business Integration
    Read that middle tier of Oracle Apps has following servers
    - Web server
    - Forms server
    - Concurrent Processing server
    - Reports server
    - Discoverer server (optional)
    - Admin server
    My doubts are -
    1. When Oracle Apps 11i is installed, Oracle 9iAS becomes the middle tier of it
    Yes / No / Partailly ?
    2. If partially, then only the 'J2EE and Internet Applications' component is installed
    Yes / No / Partially ?
    3. If partially, then Web server (Oracle HTTP Server) and Forms server come from Oracle 9iAS and Report Server, Concurrent Processing server, Admin server etc seperate components only specific to Oracle Apps 11i ?
    Yes / No
    Please let me know the answers with the explanation
    Thanks a ton

    Oracle Applications 11i uses Oracle 9iASv1 (10222, specifically) as the underlying midtier technology stack. The latest release of 11i (11.5.10), to be released this summer, can leverage specific features of Oracle AS 10g (904), namely SSO authentication and OID user management, Portal, and Discoverer. This capability will be backported to 11i releases 11.5.8 and 11.5.9, and is currently available now to limited customers through the Early Adopter program. When installed in this configuration, there is a 9iASv1 tech stack installed as part of the 11i installation, and a separate AS 10g installed for SSO, OID, Portal, Discoverer, and any other AS products the customer may be using. Aside from SSO, OID, Portal, and Disco, 11i does not yet run on other components of 9iAS or 10g (e.g., OC4J). Applications plans to move to 10g as the underlying tech stack in a future release.

  • What is diff between oracle application server and weblogic server?

    what is the exact difference between oracle application server and weblogic application server?

    The difference between Oracle Application Server AND WebLogic Server has been discussed in a lot of forums dated 2008 and earlier comparing OAS10g with WebLogic10.0/WebLogic9.2
    But, now since Oracle has taken over WebLogic, this is not really important.
    Now, OAS has no further releases post 10g. WebLogic Server will be the Oracle's strategic application server going forward.
    So, if your query is for choosing one of them for a new environment, you are better of with WebLogic Server 10.3.6 OR WebLogic Server 12g
    As we will not have further releases of OAS and also OAS10g will be end of life soon, we recommend Oracle WebLogic Server.
    If you still want to know the differences, here is one such old oracle documentation link that talks about it
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B10467_16/migrate.904/b10425/asmwl02.htm

  • Compare SQL Server and Oracle syntax

    Hello, I am very new to the Oracle DB as I have been working with MS SQL Server for many years. I have a SQL statement that works fine in MSSQL but seems to not work in Oracle. Is this a syntax problem or do I need to look elsewhere?
    DECLARE @as_master_key varchar(26)
    EXEC [dbo].[GET_UNIQUE_MASTER_KEY]
         @as_project_name = N'CMDEMO',
         @as_database_site = N'CMPL',
         @as_user_initials = N'SK',
         @as_table = N'SUBMITTAL_CATEGORY',
         @as_master_key =
         @as_master_key
    OUTPUT SELECT @as_master_key as N'master_key'
    This is what I use in MSSQL and it works fine - but I am porting this application to an Oracle backend and it fails. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance to this newbie. :)

    SQL Server and Oracle are two completely different RDBMS'.
    You'd be best not to try and port SQL Server code to Oracle SQL or PL/SQL directly as it will not favour the power of Oracle's features correctly.
    I'm not sure what your code is supposed to be doing (I find SQL Server code awful to read, and never understand the need for "@" before variable names, that just seems to show a lazy parser (or lazy coder who designed the parser)).
    From what I can guess it's going to be something like...
    SQL code...
    create or replace sequence my_master_key;PL/SQL code...
    DECLARE
      as_master_key number;
      as_project_name varchar2(20) := 'CMDEMO';
      as_database_site varchar2(20) := 'CMPL';
      as_user_initials varckar2(5) := 'SK';
      as_table varchar2(30) := 'SUBMITTAL_CATEGORY';
    BEGIN
      select my_master_key.nextval
      into as_master_key
      from dual;
      -- In 11g you could replace this select with just:
      -- as_master_key = my_master_key.nextval;
    END;This get's a unique sequence value into a variable and declares all the other variables. What you want to do with them after that I don't know.

  • Difference between Oracle Application Express and Oracle Forms/Reports

    hi guys,
    i have just use oracle apex to create some report generation tools through the web. know that this is what is known as html db in the past.
    however, i have not really touch oracle forms and reports before, neither have i really seen how they work.. but soemhow i feel oracle report/forms seems to be more.. then this oracle apex.
    it includes integration with web services, java and pl/sql .
    but i still cant really figure out what is the actual general main difference ?
    is it that for oracle forms there can be some programming logic inside , whereas for apex , it is just using what is available from what oracle provides ..
    i am read oracle form white paper, but seriously, i am not a very web guy. it has alot of components that i am not familiar with.
    so i hope you guys can just give me a more general rough idea.
    regards,
    Noob.

    Hi, my .05$
    ... most Forms & Reports users will tend to be old installed base customers using applications developed many years ago in F&R such as insurance company cores and even banking cores. Going from client/server F&R6 to "web" F&R10g is costly as you have to license an application server and most likely need to migrate to recent versions of the DB in case the customer is still on oracle 8 (common occurrence). So many customers opt. to not migrate or to simply invest in new web enabled solutions.
    Using the migration tool f&r installed base will have an easier job of migrating and at a price of whatever DB edition they are using and probably be able to do it with the same people who maintain their f&r systems provided they learn a bit about web technologies.
    what might be interesting to see is performance perception of users on f&r vs. apex...

    Hi,
    You can create procedure to move file from application server to oracle server.
    Code for list all files in directory
    ops$tkyte@8i> GRANT JAVAUSERPRIV to ops$tkyte

  • What are the commands available to read a file from application server and

    What are the commands available to read a file from application server and store the file into an internal table?

    Hi,
    To read a file from an Application Server to an Object there is a command in ABAP called <b>READ DATASET</b>. After that file is transported to that object you have to do a loop and put that data in an Internal Table.
    This statement exports data from the file specified in dset into the data object dobj. For dobj, variables with elementary data types and flat structures can be specified. In Unicode programs, dobj must be character-type if the file was opened as a text file.
    For dset, a character-type data object is expected - that is, an object that contains the platform-specific name of the file. The content is read from the file starting from the current file pointer. After the data transfer, the file pointer is positioned after the section that was read. Using the MAXIMUM LENGTH addition, the number of characters or bytes to be read from the file can be limited. Using ACTUAL LENGTH, the number of characters or bytes actually used can be determined.
    In a Unicode program, the file must be opened with an arbitrary access type; otherwise, an exception that cannot be handled will be triggered.
    If the file has not yet been opened in anon-Unicode program, it will be implicitly opened as a binary file for read access using the statement
    OPEN DATASET dset FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
    . If a non-existing file is accessed, an exception that can be handled can be triggered.
    Influence of Access Type
    Files can be read independently of the access type. Whether data can be read or not depends solely on the position of the file pointer. If the latter is at the end of the file or after the file, no data can be read and sy-subrc will be set to 4.
    Influence of the Storage Type
    The import function will take place irrespective of the storage type in which the file was opened with the statement OPEN DATASET.
    If the file was opened as a text file or as a legacy text file, the data is normally read from the current position of the file pointer to the next end-of-line marking, and the file pointer is positioned after the end-of-line marking. If the data object dobj is too short for the number of read characters, the superfluous characters and bytes are cut off. If it is longer, it will be filled with blanks to the right.
    If the file was opened as a binary file or as a legacy-binary file, as much data is read that fits into the data object dobj. If the data object dobj is longer than the number of exported characters, it is filled with hexadecimal 0 on the right.
    If the specified storage type makes conversion necessary, this is executed before the assignment to the data object dobj. Afterwards, the read data is placed, byte by byte, into the data object.
    System Fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
    0 Data was read without reaching end of file.
    4 Data was read and the end of the file was reached or there was an attempt to read after the end of the file.
    Thanks,
    Samantak.

  • Entity Framework - Code First - Migration - How to access SQL Server and Oracle using the same context?

    Hello,
    I use Entity Framework code first approach.
    My project is working fine with SQL Server. But, I want to access Oracle too. I want to switch SQL Server and Oracle in run time.
    I am able to access Oracle using "Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.EntityFramework.dl" in a new project.
    But, Is this possible to access SQL Server and Oracle in the same project.
    Thanks,
    Murugan

    This should be possible with a Code-First workflow.  In Code-First the database mapping layer is generated at runtime.

    4 g 4
    3 h 3
    1 g 1
    2 m 2
    If you notice the first column in both output. It is sorted in sql server and not in oracle.
    Why it is behaving differently in oracle? Is there any way I can solve this in oracle?
    Thanks,
    Jigs

    It is NOT behaving "differently" in Oracle; you just haven't specified an order that you expect your results to be in, so you're going to get output in whatever order the database fancies displaying it (ie. no guarenteed order). This is an artifact of how the database chooses to put together the data, and different databases (or even datasets within the same database) can and most likely will behave differently.
    Even SQL Server won't guarentee to always get your data in an ordered fashion if you exclude the order by clause, even if you think it has always output the data in an ordered fashion.
    Your solution is to add an order by clause, in BOTH databases, to force the order of the output data.

    Okay, pls check that you are logged in as administrator and installed and now you are logged in as administrator and registering the iAS server. Did you get any installation failures while installing and are you able to register the server using iASAT ?

    The migration tool has converted NVARCHAR columns to be twice their size as NVARCH2 in Oracle. Example, a table whose column is mycol NVARCHAR(40) gets migrated as mycol NVARCHAR2(80).
    In SQL Server land, the designation of a column as NVARCHAR(40) will physically store the column as 80 bytes. However, as I understand from this excerpt (taken from here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/03-nov/o63tech_glob.html), that Oracle in essence will do the same thing for NVARCHAR2:
    To make it easy to allocate proper storage for Unicode values, Oracle9i Database introduced character semantics. You can now use a declaration such as VARCHAR2(3 CHAR), and Oracle will set aside the correct number of bytes to accommodate three characters in the underlying character set. In the case of AL32UTF8, Oracle will allocate 12 bytes, because the maximum length of a UTF-8 character encoding is four bytes (3 characters * 4 bytes/character = 12 bytes). On the other hand, if you're using AL16UTF16, in which case your declaration would be NVARCHAR2(3), Oracle allocates just six bytes (3 characters * 2 bytes/character = 6 bytes). One difference worth noting is that for UTF-8, a declaration using character semantics allows enough room for surrogate characters, whereas for UTF-16 that is not the case. A declaration such as NVARCHAR2(3) provides room for three UTF-16 code units, but a single supplementary character may consume two of those code units.
    As I read this, NVARCHAR(40) in sql server should be equivalent to NVARCHAR2(40) in Oracle and not NVARCHAR2(80) as it gets translated to - am I missing something? We have a rather large database to migrate so I need to get this size allocation right (and I obviously don't want to truncate any data).
    Thanks -

    Right - well, that's what I'm suggesting is that NVARCHAR(8) in SQL Server is equivalent to NVARCHAR2(8) in Oracle. Truncation will occur after 8 of any character, including, say, double byte Kanjii characters, which would physically store 16 bytes in the NVARCHAR(8) NVARCHAR2(8) column defn. I tried that in both SQL Server and Oracle, and the behavior is the same.
    Also, technically, NVARCHAR2(8) and VARCHAR2(8 CHAR) is roughly the same in terms of behavior, except that in the first case, the physical storage is 16 bytes, while in the second case, it's 24 bytes (to account for 'supplemental' characters or true UTF-8 compliance). Same truncation occurs after 8 of -any- character be it single byte ascii or double byte kanjii, which is the behavior I expect.
    Thanks for looking into this. What I decided to do was the following:
    What was originally defined in SQL Server as varchar (and translated to VARCHAR2 with the CHAR designation), I removed the CHAR designation since I truly want that number of bytes to be stored, and not characters (for columns I do not care about UTF8 or 16 compliance - that will also mimic the same behavior I currently have on the SQL Server side. For anything that was nvarchar in SQL Server, I went ahead and created them as VARCHAR2 with the CHAR designation, with the same size (not double the value as was in SQL Server which the documentation says it gets translated to). I did this since we probably will need true UTF-8 compliance down the line, and since I had the hood open, it was easy enough to do. I could also have converted NVARCHAR(n) to NVARCHAR2(n) (and not n*2) as what was happening in the migration.
    I tested strings in both cases, and I think I have my solution.
