9i for solaris on intel?

Hi,
I have a 8.1.7 running on Solaris 8 for Intel. In the download area I can find only 9i for Solaris on SunSparc. Is there no version for Intel based Computers? The Sparc 32 bit version produces an error, if I try to install.
Thank you
Emil

  • SMP results for Solaris on Intel

Does anyone have or know where I can find SMP results for Solaris on Intel?
I work for a .com that is trying to decide whether or not to use 8-way Dell's or SPARC.
    Opinions welcome.
    Thanks in advance -

Solaris Intel version has existed since around 1992; source trees for Sparc and Intel were merged at 2.4 so the products (ignoring HW differences) are identical.
2.6 has reached "End Of Life" - contact your Sun sales representative if you have requiremnts for product/support going into the future.
Otherwise focus on Solaris 8, the currently shipping **FREE** version (subject to terms) at www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries

  • JDK 1.5.0_08 for Solaris 10 Intel 64 bit

    Hi,
I need the JDK 1.5.0_08 installation for Solaris 10 running on an Intel 64 bit machine.
I searched the Sun site for this but I can't seem to find it and I don't know if it exists.
Ideally I require JDK 1.5.0_08 but if it doesn't exist I can move up versions.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi all,
Does anyone know the date when Solaris first became available on the Intel Platform? Also, is 2.6 available on Intel?

  • Install error for Solaris 8 intel

When my Solaris 8 install gets to the spot where it asks for the language to use (0-9, english is 0, which I want), anything I hit on my keyboard sends bogus VT codes to the screen. Earlier in the install process (when it asks for solaris interactive vs custom for example), my keyboard works fine, I can choose 1 or 2 there.
Has anyone else seen the problem? I've tried multiple keyboards, and they all do the same thing.

Sounds like the dell keyboard problem:

The workaround is to attach an USB keyboard.

  • SIS 6326 driver for Solaris Intel platform

Apparently those who used a SiS 6326 chip on the graphics card
cannot find a proper driver for Solaris 8 Intel.
I am having the same problem, is there any way of resolve this problem
so I can make my graphics card work at 100% or does this mean I have to get a different graphics card which is supported by Solaris 8 Intel.

Do you know if there is any other old SiS drivers for Sun? Maybe we can make it work good (at least 50% fine) using an old driver...
PS: If you can, please answer to my email: [email protected]

  • Adding 3COM 3C905C-TX for Solaris Intel

    Hi there,
    I am trying to add a 3COM 3C905C-TX card for Solaris 8/Intel.
Since it's a PCI card, do i have to specify the irq, address etc
in /platform/../elx.conf, if yes how and where do i get this
info from? i followed the other procedures in the sun doc link
provided several threads ago but ifconfig is still not recognizing
the interface. how do i know for sure if the NIC itself is installed
or not? any insights would be greatly appreciated!!!
    vinny.

First you should probably install the latest solaris 8 elxl driver patch 109867-03 / 109866-XX because this patch adds support for the 3C905C cards.
See the "Patches" link on the
    Solaris Driver Download page.
(People have also reported that the 3C905C card works without the
    patch, but you have to
add entries to certain system files).
PCI cards are self-identifying, so there's not need to add irq's
dma channels or I/O ports to
    a driver conf file.
Make sure you perform a reconfiguration boot (either by
specifying option "-r" on the boot command line or by a
"touch /reconfigure" before you reboot solaris).
The command "ifconfig elxl0 plumb" should add an interface
for the 3com network card, afterwards you can use
"ifconfig elxl0 inet 12.34.56.78", ... to configure ip addresses, etc.
If this all works OK, create a new file "/etc/hostname.elxl0" and
insert a single line with the IP-address for the 3com interface
    into that file.

  • Can't find gunzip on Solaris 7 intel

I'm sure this is a total newbie problem, but I can't find gunzip for Solaris 7 intel. I've searched my hard drive, and I can't find it. I've even installed the entire distribution. What am I doing wrong?

    Mike:
gunzip is not a part of the distribution.
Download gzip from www.sunfreeware.com and install.

  • Minimizing Solaris 9 Intel

    Hi,
Does anyone know what the minimum package set is for solaris 9 intel?
I'd still like to be able to use ssh and sunscreen that now ship with it.
I checked out the updated "Minimizing the Solaris Operating Environment for Security" blueprint but it only seems to cover sparc 64bit.
    Cheers
    Al

I have a minimum development environment with a total of 105 packages. It is 120 MB compressed
with flarcreate. If you don't want the development environment with all of its libraries and tools
you could do with a lot less packages and disk space.
