  • Need to upgrade from 8i OCP to 11g OCP

I had my 8i DBA OCP a long time ago (2002). Now I'm planning to upgrade it to 11g OCP. I have a couple of questions about my options.
I know one of my options is to upgrade to 10g first and them upgrade from 10g to 11g.
But what about if I would like to take 11g tests, such as 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053? This will be my second option.
    1) In my second option, will my exsiting IZO-001 (Introduction to Oracle SQL and PL/SQL) pass remains valide as an SQL exemption?
    2) Since I already have OCP, will I exempt for oracle hands on training?
BTW, I already have an account in CertView and see all my certification information.
Thanks very much for any help.

CindyI dont have time to seek out the authorive posts from times past.
But for an 8i DBA OCP with 1z0-001 then passes in 1z0-052 + 1z0-053 will achieve 11g DBA OCP certification with no additional training.
I will often recommend raising an Service Request to confirm this; as it would be a very expensive investment in money/time if it were not to be the case.
Thankou for giving all relevant information which has made the answer easy for me to give.

  • Differences between 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 and 11g OCP

    Hi All
    I have a small dilemma
For Christmas I was given a copy of OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam Guide with CD-ROM: Exams 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5|http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5]
As you will see in the book title it covers 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053
About a year ago I attended the following courses
    TT - Oracle D/B 10g Program PL/SQL-QA-IQ
    TT - Oracle PL/SQL - GK
TT - Oracle 10g Intro to SQL
I have been meaning to get round to taking my exams and OCA qualification is no problem as I can take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 using the above book and the knowledge I gained on the course (even though the course was 10g).
But my question surrounds 11g OCP and how it requires instructor led training - now I have done my 10g course but I guess this wont count as an instructor led course for 11g OCP.
If not then im going to need to take the route of 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 to get OCP and 1Z0-050 to upgrade to 11g
So I would ask how safe I would be learning the above mentioned book and taking the 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 exams. I understand there is no accurate answer as it is subjective but if 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 (11g) knowledge covers 1Z0-042 and 1Z0-043 (10g) knowledge then there should be no problem, right?
I really dont want to have to take the book back or purchase another.
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

RobYour'e thinking sensibly about this. Well done. And the hands on course needs to be considered carefully and I often say this can be deciding factor in planning.
IMHO there is at least 80% commonality between the topics for 1z0-042 AND 1Z0-052 .... and probably similar for 1z0-043 and 1z0-053 whoug I've never directly checked this and there may be a greater divergence there.
Be aware some topics in 1z0-050 will not be covered in the books you have as far as I am aware.
One option you have not considered is taking exams in this order ..... this will give you 10g OCP and 11g OCP. This is wha I did .... but it mainly occured that for me way as the 1z0-053 was fairly delayed into production and I wanted the certificates I could have as soon as possilble .... ie 10gDBAOCP and 11gDBAOCA. I actually did the 1z1-053 beta for my 11g DBA OCP ... cheaper than 1z0-050 as I already had 11g DBA OCA.
    1z0-051 1z0-042 1z0-052 1z0-043 1z0-053.
I know you dont want to buy another book, but the 10g ones from Sybex (and associated CDROM's) give a slightly different viewpoint (though they are for 10gR1 and are not updated for 10gR2 topics). IMHO the sybex books can ometimes go a little over the top in some areas. But all these books can contain some errors ... however they do provide an extra set of practice questions. However it is an option for you.
Its worth registering your 10g course as a hands on course as soon as reasonably possible to ensure there are no issues with it (I assume you have attended the course from Oracle University).
Anyway these are my thoughts. But you know your own circumstances and are responsible for your own decisions. Good Luck.

  • Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?

    Hi all,
I am lil bit confuse to decide about my oracle core dba certification.
Please help me to know, as per the present requirements of the business organizations.
    ***Should I go for Oracle 10g OCA/OCP or 11g OCA/OCP Certification?***
Hope u guys answer me earliest.
    Thanks & Regards,

Most likely, it doesn't matter too much. I doubt that most employers are terribly concerned with what recent version of Oracle you have a certification on.
    That said, if it matters
    - What does your organization use? What are their plans to upgrade? If your company still uses 9.2 primarily and has plans to upgrade to 10.2 this year, you're probably better off with a 10g certification. If your company is already running mostly 11.2, you're probably better off with an 11g certification.
    - What do most employers in your particular part of the world tend to use? What do job postings in your particular part of the world generally list?

  • 9i oca to 11g ocp

    Hi
1-) What is the correct path to upgrade 9i OCA to 11g OCP?
2-) Is it compulsary to take lessons, or is it enough to pass the exams?
    Many thanks

In order to upgrade 9i ocp from 9i oca, Is it compulsary to take a course?
    or
Can I upgrade it by passing the exam without taking a course? The term 'upgrade' is this context is really to upgrade from DBA OCP/OCM at one oracle version to another. For instance from 9i OCP DBA to 11g DBA OCP.
The first time you wish to achieve a DBA OCP certiifcation at some level you will need to, as part of the requirement, submit a hands-on course and get verified that you have attended a course suitable for that certification.
This list is different for 9i DBA OCP , 10g DBA OCP and 11g DBA OCP. (To upgrade from 9i DBA OCP to 10/11g DBA then you dont need a course).
You can choose to believe me or not, or attempt to see if you can wriggle round it, but don't cry if you find yourself not receiving a certification even though you've passed the exams.
    - The choice of courses are quite wide, so those you are already sufficently familiar with the exam topics can choose a course that will cover useful topics that are new to them.

  • Oracle 11g OCP

    Hi,
I'm an OCA Oracle 9i PL/SQL and OCP Oracle 9i DBA. I wish to earn Oracle 11g OCP in PL/SQL now. Can anyone update me on how can I do that directly (bypassing exams for 10g).
On http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=155 I found following information which show I needs to pass only Oracle 11g Advanced PL/SQL 1Z0-146 to become OCP 11g PL/SQL as I'm already an OCA PL/SQL.
    Am I correct?

  • OCE: 1z1-054: passing beta exam without being 11g OCP DBA ?

    Hello,
I've question: can I take beta exam 1z1-054 (OCE performance tunning for 11g) without being 11g OCP DBA certified ? After sucessful passing of 1z1-054 I would go for 11g DBA OCP certification, and then submit hands-on-course... is it possbile? I'm aware that I wouldn't be allowed to claim that I've passed this OCE certification until I've gained 11g OCP DBA.
    Thanks for reply.

You do not have to be an 11g DBA OCP prior to sitting for the 1Z1-054 beta exam. As a matter of fact, you do not have to be an 11g DBA OCP to obtain this certification. You may also obtain the certification by completing the required training course. You can see your two options on our website at http://education-dev.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=287.

  • 11g ocp hands on course

    Hi
I want to become 11g ocp.
I know that I have to take one hands on course to achieve this.
I am not new to oracle thefore I am not interested in subjects in 11g workshop1 and 11g workshop2.
I am just wondering, if I can take "11g R2 New Features for Administrator" course as a hands on course?

The fact that the course is now 11gR2 based rather than just '11g' (R1) is not relevant in your context. (I dont have an athorative reference on that but essentailly 11gR2 based courses are replacing 11gR1 based ones not supplementing them)

  • Need suggestion about 11g OCP

    Hi All,
I'm 9i OCA and now want to 11g OCP. What is my certification path, is 9i OCA certification help me or I will need to do fresh certification in 11g.
    Waiting for your valuable suggestion.
    Regards,
    Mritunjay

You have a couple of options:
    1. you can go ahead and finish your path to 9i DBA OCP and then upgrade to 11g DBA OCP
    - pass exam 032
    - pass exam 033
    - complete training
    - complete course submission form
    - receive 9i DBA OCP
    - pass upgrade exam 055
    - receive 11g DBA OCP
    2. you can do the full path for 11g DBA OCP (which will include first obtaining 11g DBA OCA)
    - pass exam 007, 047, or 051 (since you already have 9i DBA OCA, you probably have already passed one of these exams, or the 001 exam which will exempt you from repeating this step)
    - pass exam 052
    - receive 11g DBA OCA
    - pass exam 053
    - complete training
    - complete course submission form
    - receive 11g DBA OCP

  • OCA for 10g ------- 11g OCP?

So, I just passed my OCA exam for 10g, but my question now is what do I do about the OCP? Do I take the OCP exam for 11g, or 10g? I know they were changing the format as of December 1st. Anyone have any idea? Thank you.

You need to complete Oracle 10g OCP DBA then you can upgrade to 11g OCP DBA (by passing 1Z0-050, Oracle Database 11g: New Features for Administrators).

  • 11g OCP

    Hi
I have completed the oracle 11g exams for OCA. I have left with one paper 1z0-053 admin workshop II to get OCP.
    the url :http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=198&p_org_id=&lang=
    says. Training+exam+form
What is training / form is it optional or must.
training cost is seems to be very high if its must. Please comment on this.
    thanks
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
The training is compulsory and is very expensive as you said. Try and see about your employer covering the cost.
List of training options valid for the 11g OCP are found here: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#5
Edit: Remember that the self-study CD Rom is not acceptable as a form of training...it has to be the instructor-led training or virtual class (because it makes more money).

I passed the 10g OCP exam... (1z0-042 and 1z0-043) However the certificate was not recognized.
    My 11g OCP is ok...
Are you sure I do not need to submit the 11g Administration Workshop 2 for 10g OCP cert. Path??
Should I review any step? Can I submit the same course twice for different 11g and 10g certification path??

    Hi,
I recently cleared 1z0-051 and 1z0-052 and awaiting OCA certificate.
    Congratulations.
Can any one please assist and guide me on how to proceed to 1z0-053 as Oracle University in my area is not offering any 11g course yet; they are still offering 10g courses?
    Thats unfortunate ...
Can I confirm you have checked ...
and checked your country and selected course schedule. I dont know what your country is but i see both India and Saudi Arabia are offering 11g courses.
You could try contacting your local Oracle university by phone, other options might be a Live Virtual Class instructor led course which i believe still satifies the requirement, or attending a course out of country / area.
I do not see any 10g course on list of courses for 11g hands on:
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#5
    Agreed.
My question is, should i invest on 10g hand on to pursue 11g ocp?
In my opinion probably not. But I dont know your exact situation.
One option would be to sit 1z0-042 .. ( i think the topics are 80% common with 1z0-052) , so if your head is currently filled with 1z0-052 then its possilby not too difficult to adject to 1z0-042 ... checkout the topics. You could then take 1z0-043 , take 10g training to get your 10g OCP, then take 1z0-050 to get your 11g OCP. Thats a long way round and a lot of exams to get to 11g OCP from where your are, and if you've not much experience of earlier versions of Oracle you might want to stick with 11g so you dont get confused between slight differences between the two.
Another thing to note is that the 1z1-053/1z0-053 has today 30-jun-2009 finished beta ... so it will not now be possilble to take 1z0-053 until the production exam is released which should be sometime in september, and you may want to plan round that.
If you really cant see any 11g courses , and have contacted your local Oracle University, then you could go to [www.oracle.com/education/certification] and look up the FAQ's under support and if your're really stuck then use support/contact-us.
    thanks and kind regards,
    Moiz
