9i R2 -  SUSE Installation

Hi,
could not install 9i R2 on SUSE9.
Copying process hung when it started to copy JRE. and the copy status says "Link Pending". My error log shows :
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/OraInstall2005-07-14_07-5doPost=true

Look at http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_suse.html
This is step by step guide how to install Oracle 9iR2 on Suse. If you will follow (exactly) all steps then your installation will be succesful.

Is there anyone who managed to get the installation done on SuSE
Linux? I tried everything that was posted in this forum and still
didn't get it to install correctly.
I am using SuSE 5.3 with the rpm glibc upgrade from SuSE.com.

I have had success with SuSe 5.2.
At some point l tried the glibc upgrade from SuSE and had to
uninstall it as it crashed everything.
To get your installation working do the following exactly:
    1. Remove the SuSE glibc upgrade using yast.
    2. Got to ftp//cdrom.com [I cannot remember the rest of the path
but I published it in past postings you may want to searcj for
    it.
    3. Download the following
glibc runtime version 2.0.5c including its readme file
glibc development version 2.0.5c including its readme file
    4. Install the glibc runtime version following instructions
    5. Install the development version following istructions.. you
    needn't recompile the kernel. I don't think I did.
    6. Add ORA_HOME/lib to /etc/ld-conf-so (not too sure of whole
name) as the last line. It will have some rubbish about not to be
edited directly at the top of it .. ignore this ad add the line
    anyway.
Try installing and relinking your Oracle.
    It should work...
As I have said many times.. if you do not try the above.. don't
waste anyone's time asking the same questions..

  • PO - Document Type FO and Item Category B - Can they be transferred to SUS?

    Hi SDN
We are using R/3 4.7 with SRM 5.0 - Classic Scenario and XI 4.0.  We are just about to launch an SUS project to put our PO's on SUS for our suppliers.  Our organization is dealing with PO's for both Goods and Services.  As we know that there are no problems about putting the GR-Type PO's (NB type) on SUS but I would like to know if it is possible to transfer PO's that would be from the Document Type FO and Item Category B (Blanket PO) to SUS and ensure that our suppliers can do the entire PO Acknowledgement, PO Change and post the Invoice via SUS.  If not, what are the options for our R/3 - SUS installation?
    Thanks!

  • SUSE Linux 8.0 + 9iAS r2 = Success

Hi PPL, just reporting success and performance inscrease under Suse Linux 8.0:
I can say that Oracle 9iAS under Linux for me performs at least 25-30% faster than Windows. I've installed IAS and INFRA in only one machine:
    Pentium 4 1.8Ghz
    1 GB RAM
    1 SCSI 15kRPM IB DISK
    Adaptec Ultra 160 controller
    2 GB SWAP
I use PORTAL, FORMS, REPORTS and WIRELESS... I've installed the BUNDLED INTER-OPERABILITY PATCH Version of 9iAS r2, so i did not had to apply that patch. I've just applied today one CORE patch that was released in September for Linux/Unix versions and yesterday for Windows versions (patch 2542920)
I've used SUSE 8.0, installed the Korn Shell package (KSH) and followed instruction on this VERY USEFULL whitepaper at htis site : www.stute.net !
Remember to change SHMMAX parameters for the kernel as explained in www.puschitz.com !
My last installation was made in 3 hours (SUSE installation included)
Other tricks was i had to execute: xhost + as root to let oracle set DISPLAY and runInstaller! The linking errors were easily solved as explained in www.stute.net whitepaper.
I've created a script to startup the INFRA database, but i couldnt start up automatically all services (OC4J's, HTTP, WEBCACHE), so i start them manually in OEM site http://mysite:1810
I'm not a Linux GURU, but now i feels satisfied with performance and with stability.
More... in Linux i can compile my FORMS files (FMX) even when they are used by someone user in a forms session.
And even better is that PATCHS for Linux/Solaris usually are on "street" 1 month before Windows versions.
Of course, I go crazy everytime i found bugs, but usually they are not plataform related.

    Hi
I installed on SUSE Linux 8.0 the 9iAS R2, only the option A - J2EE and WebChache. Now I have following problems.
    1. Some configuration tools (OC4J, OPMN, DCM)were not initialized in the end of the installation. I read other postings with the same problems, but i never read a solution of these problems.
    2. After installation, i want to start the http server manually (dctml start -ct ohs) , but it doesn't work. I got the error message ADMN 100999, i dont know why !
If i want to start the http-server with enterprise manager (EM worked partically) I got an EMException.
I have no idea to resolve the problems, perhaps you

  • SUSE Linux 9.2 on K8N Neo Plat

    Hi,
I tried installing SUSE 9.2 on my PC this weekend.
The YAST installer only picked up my SATA Drive on SATA connector 1 and 2. It did not find it on 3 or 4.
Any one know of a reason for this? I always run my SATA drive of SATA 3 (Read in a number of places that SATA 3 & 4 is safer).
Anyway of fixing the SUSE installer?
    Thanks for the help,
    D.

I have the Fedora 3 (64bit version) up and running. But i'm not using SATA disks, but SCIS disks. I noticed several OS related problems. Like when I want to add some tools/software from the Fedora CD's, it says it an't find them. So I need to leave the disks in the cdrom drive, then I need to reboot, and the reinstalling the soft. When I want to add another soft, I again to change cd's, reboot and then to start the installation all over. (I was trying to install the boot disk manager).
Also the installation from DVD didn't work, I had to re-download everything so that I could burn the cd version.

You mean you actually got runInstaller to run????
    How did you do that????
I've been trying for weeks and all I get is a SIGSEGV.
I'll add to your comments about Oracle by asking why they don't use either curses or (if they MUST have a GUI) Tcl/Tk for the installer program instead of this java rubbish.
8.0.5 installed with no problem on my Linux box (curses based installer).

  • Database is very slow in oracle 9i with Suse Linux

    Hello All,
We are using Suse linux and installed Oracle 9i on it. Our ERP product is running on this database. It is very slow. But linux configuration seems Ok. Oracle's performance is very slow. But The same thing is working fast in oracle 8.1.6 and 8.1.7. Is there any special linux configuration parameters should we consider for this or we have to do something in init.ora file?. I added the size of the JAVA_POOL_SIZE, SHARED_POOL_SIZE and LARGE_POOL_SIZE to 300 MB each.
Thanks in advance and expecting your reply.
    with regards,

Which version of SuSE Linux would possibly help here. I'm using version 7.3 Pro and it is only 10 minutes slower than my installation on XP Pro (the script is 16 pages long and takes 8,000,000 records and converts them into 30,000 records of useful information-takes 20 minutes in XP, 30 minutes in SuSE 7.3 on a personal computer). I used the orarun9i script and followed the directions for re-compiling the genclntsh from the SuSE installations online.

  • Cant start installer 8i

    Using Suse Linux 8.
Trying to start with runInstaller, but it stops immediately with an SIGSEGV when intializing the java virtual machine.

Check the value of the LANG environment variable.
If had the same problem when LANG was set to "de_DE", which is the default in german SuSE installation.
After doing an "unset LANG" the installer runs fine.
It seems, the the 8i installer needs the LANG variable set to "C".
Unsetting the LANG variable will have the same effect, because the default if LANG is not set is "C".
Installing 9i R2 works fine, no matter to what value the LANG variable was set.
If I dont miss, the same is true for 9i R1.

  • Missing compat-db package on SUSE

Triyng to install htmldb on SUSE 10 and the oracle installation assistant says that compat-db package is not installed. True, the package is not installed but according to the installation manual this package is not even required for SUSE installations. Even if it is, there is no compat-db package for SUSE 10 that I know of. Compact-db is a Redhat package reqired for htmldb.
    Any suggestions?

I checked my installation, where Apex is working (suse 10 x86_64), and the packages that I've installed are:
db and db1, the 32 bit and the devel dependent packages.
    Its important using runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs

There  was http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3127?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US -- similar symptions fixed by the 10.6.3 update, but by now I'm at 10.6.8.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you, but at least we can comiserate about the problem. I have 3 different 10.6 SUS installations that are having this problem. I've been trying to directly manipulate the downloaded files, settings, etc. I'm seeing that the downloaded files here:
    /var/db/swupd/html/content/downloads/35/57/091-7360/
do not have any of the ".dst" distribution files for the various languages that should be there. I believe that must be the "incomplete download" part, but I've even copied those files from a 10.5 SUS download (all of the 10.5 SUS engines work w/ this Java update, BTW), still to no avail.
I've also tried manipulating the list of updates in the .plist here:
    /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist
by changing the flags for 091-7360 to "Mirrored" instead of "PleaseMirror", changing Enabled to "true", and things like that. I still cannot get SUS to be happy w/ this update. I think that if I had a better understanding of how all of these files tie together (you've got lists of updates in /etc/swupd, but also multiple catalog files in /var/db/swupd/html), I might be able to fool the thing into working. Alas, it appears to be beyond me, and I may have to just wait until another Java update for 10.6 is issued to be able to use SUS for it again.
Any further observations you may have would be quite welcome. Maybe we can put our heads together and figure this out.
    Thx,
    Fred

  • A ban for Update Service cause in dirty shoes into our house

A ban for Update Service cause in dirty shoes into our house
We raised a ban on all our devices for Sony Update Service.
It does not respect the existing setup, instead it coming in into our house in dirty shoes.
    How uncool!!!!!
The workstations have JRE installed, every time JRE of the newest available official version is installed.
What does the SUS on its installation do?
It installs additional JRE in own installation directory, does not check if some already present on the system.
But much more bad is, the version of JRE installed by SUS is obsolete and vulnerable.
By doing so it just raise w security hole in the system.
    It is not acceptable.
We found recentlly in the SUS installation directory two JRE deployments: one installer, and one installed JRE.
    It was JRE 7u51.
A ban for SUS on our systems.

Shame on you sony if you are not shameless

    Hi,
We are planning to install HANA SPS8 on a Vitual Machine with SLES 11 SP3 for SAP.
ABAP 7.4 and HANA on the Same virtual Machine
During the Installation of SUSE in the software selection screen, we found the options as
    - SAP Netweaver Server Base
    - SAP HANA Server Base
We would like to know, whether we have to select these options for the SUSE Installation or only
SAP Application Server Base would be enough.

    Hi,
Tuxedo 10.0 extended support ends in September of this year.  If you are making the move from 32 bit versions to 64 bit versions you should definitely move to newer versions of Tuxedo.  Tuxedo 12.1.1 has been out nearly three years at this point and is certified for Suse Linux 11 64 bit.  Is there a reason you are staying on such an old version of Tuxedo while upgrading the OS?

    Hi,
I'm joining this thread late as I've just encountered the same problem.
None of the ports specified in the error message are in the etc/services file, and none of them are in use according to netstat either. sysctl.conf and ip_local_port_range are both correct too.
SEVERE: Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range for the following process(es): JMS [5540-5559],RMI [5520-5539],Database Control [5500-5519],EM agent [1830-1849]
Werner Puschitz has something about this on his Suse installation page in the Troubleshooting section (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10gOnSUSE.shtml ) , but is does not seem to have got into his Red Hat page:
The problem is that ports listed in /etc/services are discounted.
The workaround is to specify the ports manually, see emca -h.
Use the following options and use the port ranges as specified in the above error message:
    emca -RMI_PORT <port> -JMS_PORT <port> -AGENT_PORT <port> -DBCONSOLE_HTTP_PORT <port>
so it may be worth giving that a try.
