9i's Oracle Universal Installer problem in W2K server! Please Help.
Hi all,
I am trying to install Oracle database 9i on my w2k server (domain controller). The Oracle Universal Installer quits right after I choose install in autorun menu with this message:
'Error in writing to directory C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall. Please ensure that this directory is writable and has at least 25 MB of Disk Space. Installation could not continue.'
I am installing as the administrator of the domain/server and I have 17GB left on my harddisk. I am using a P3 600 with 384 MB of RAM. My HD is Seagate ATAIV Baracuda and my motherboard uses VIA chipset.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Hartono
I am using Diamond TNT2 video card. I have tried to install new (not newest) detonator drive and VIA 4 in 1 driver ver4.29 but it still gives me the error. Would it help if I install Java2 runtime on this computer?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.Hi Helios
Thanks for the response. The database is still not created to check in the Alert log .It is still in the phase of pre-requisite checks. I did not go with Silent installation. It is a plain single instance installation.

For this error:
[03/Oct/2008:11:58:25 -0600] - DEBUG - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - PR_SetSocketOption(PR_SockOpt_NoDelay) failed, error -5962 (The value requested is too large to be stored in the data buffer provided.)

Solution/Notes:_
The below errors are "informational" in nature.
This is not an issue with the directory server, but with a connection to the directory server and whatever(device, script, or application) is attempting this connection.
These informational errors you are seeing in the logs are typically related to incoming connections from a load balancer or switch.
It is usually some device, script or application doing monitoring of the LDAP server, port or connection.
It is found that one of the biggest culprits to be the Cisco Content Switch or load balancer.
Generally the cause of this error is a "sticky bit" setting within the Cisco Content Services Switch that is causing these errors.
These load balancers periodically ping the servers (every five seconds) to verify that they are alive.
After turning off the "sticky bit" setting, which disables the ping to the server every 5 seconds, the errors will no longer show up.
The best course of action is to find the client doing this kind of monitoring and change it's behavior. You can look at the directory server's access log for B1 errors (the same client causing the PR accept errors in the errors log will cause B1 errors in the access log) at the same time you see these errors in the errors log. Then back track the connection in the access log to find the connectiing IP address of the clienton the first BIND.
If you can not determine the client causing these errors and are concerned about your errors logs filling up then you can either turn off this error logging.
This can be done dynamically on the server with a ldapmodify command:
cd /install-root/shared/bin or cd /var/opt/mps/serverroot/shared/bin
./ldapmodify -p port -h hostname -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w password
dn: cn=config
changetype: modify
replace: nsslapd-infolog-area
nsslapd-infolog-area: 0
If you don't want to do that then you can try and modify this attribute.
"nsslapd-nagle
When the value of this attribute is off, the TCP_NODELAY option is set so that LDAP responses
(such as entries or result messages) are sent back to a client immediately.
When the attribute is turned on, default TCP behavior applies.
That is, the sending of data is delayed, in the hope that this will enable additional data to be grouped into
one packet of the underlying network MTU size (typically 1500 bytes for Ethernet)."
This will require you to stop and restart the server.
NOTE: Below is the suggested fix, however, please apply this at your own discretion as this may or may not fix the issue. It depends on the client making these connections.
1. Stop the directory server
2. Edit the dse.ldif configuration file
3. In the "cn=config
" entry, add the attribute "nsslapd-nagle" with a value of "on".
4. Start the directory server. -
Hi Experts,
Trying to Deinstall the OBIEE 11g. OUI is not launching... after digging the issue find out that "Java RunTime Environment was not found".
But Java software is available at the specified path.
"C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-05_01-10-08PM\jre\bin\javaw.exe"
Can you please help me on this... The complete error is...
Oracle Universal Installer
The Java RunTime Environment was not found at C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-05_01-10-08PM\jre\bin\javaw.exe. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again.
OK
ArjunHi Srini,
I have tried as you mentioned like installing Java in C:\Java... and I have tried the by setting the JRE_LOCATION of local path. No use of it.
tried with -jreloc and setting the java path in environment variables too.
As I understand, the problem i have seen at files copied path is not expected as required. Please see the path below...
C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-06_03-36-31PM\jre\bin\javaw.exe.
After running the Setup.exe -deinstall... temporary folder is creating with timestamp and all the required files are coping here...
"jre" folder also created and copied required java files directly into jre folder, but not in jre\bin folder.
folder path is like this
C:\DOCUME~1\v859971\LOCALS~1\Temp\OraInstall2013-09-06_03-36-31PM\jre\javaw.exe.
Setup application is expecting jre\bin\javaw.exe, but folder structure is created as jre\javaw.exe. There it is coming the issue.
I have even tried with copying all the files into bin folder and executed the setup.exe, it again creating a new temporary file
not able to resolve it... -

Can someone help kick off the OUI installer. Our customer if getting impatient in not getting it to run. Any help appreicaited
ThanksThanks for the replies...
FYI.
I have cloned an Oracle 9i database on a DR test server.
Now I am installing Oracle Application server 10g Forms and Reports (9.0.4) on Solaris 5.10
This is using a Oracle CD which is for Solaris 5.9 but using twp patches supplied by oracle to run the CD from. So it is able to run on Solaris 5.10. It has been done before but by some past DBA some 5 years ago. This is the first time I am attempting this being a new employee here.
I have implemented these suggestions.
Especially the fact that it was looking for a gunzip utuility which it couldn't find. To make it easirer Ij ust copied the gunzip utility to the place it was looking for, and renamed it unzip. As it was loooking for unzip
This worked and passed through.
Created the temp temp directory as welll so it would not have issues in not writting to the tmp directory.
The error I'm getting is below
bash-3.2$ pwd

bash-3.2$ /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/SOLARIS/RUNINSTA -paramFile /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701/ORAPARAM.INI

However I would prbably still get the java error. Should this not be resolved using Exceed though? -

Cygwin X Server to run Oracle Universal Installer
Hi,
I used to run Oracle Universal Installer on my unix server using an Exceed X Server on my Windows laptop. Recently my laptop was upgraded to Windows 7 and I can no longer use my version of Exceed on this version of Windows.
Therefore I was going to try and use the freeware Cygwin X Server on my laptop instead.
I connected to the Cygwin X Server site http://x.cygwin.com/ - I wasn't sure what to download, so I downloaded the following using their setup.exe program ( which gets downloaded to my windows pc )
- X Console
- Xhost
- Xinit
- Xorg Server
- XTerm
Q1. In order to run the Oracle OUI, I am not sure I needed anything other than Xorg Server - is that correct ? I am not really sure what the others do
Q2. I was surprised when I downloaded these components they were supplied as packages with an extension of *.tar.bz2. To me these are components you would not / could not install onto a windows pc ?
All I am simply trying to is - to run an X Server solution ( in this case I was hoping Cygwin ) on my pc, set the $DISPLAY ( as approrpiate ) on my backend unix server, launch the OUI on the unix server and have the OUI appear on the X Server running on my pc.
But alas I am a bit stuck around getting the correct Cygwin X Server solution for my pc
Any ideas where I am gong wrong ?
thanks,

JimAs sb alluded to by giving a link to the site, you can use xming as your x-server. It's free, lightweight, and drop-dead simple to install. No bells and whistles. Just a solid x-server.
And once I discovered x11 port forwarding, I no longer even have to set DISPLAY to match the ever-changing DHCP-assigned ip address of my pc. I use PuTTY as my ssh client, and configure the session to allow x11 port forwarding. I can't remember the last time I had to monkey around with DISPLAY. -
Hi all,
Situation
I'm trying to install ODBC 8.1.7.4 - however when having selected the products.jar the OUI (1.7.0.something) says that this package needs OUI 1.7.1.3.0 to be installed.
Problem
The OSP (which is the only component I can find on OTN that has the OUI) on the OTN download - is version 1.7.0.something).
Does anyone know where to get the latest - required - OUI ??
Extra Q
Do I need more than the ODBC to connect from a W2K to a SUN based Oracle ?
(I saw something about Net8 - but have no clue if that's part of the ODBC package)
Best regards and (urgent :-) thanks
VitusThe ODBC driver relies on a lot of different libraries that are part of the Oracle client. The Net8 protocol, the NLS libraries, etc. in addition to the Oracle Universal Installer. If you do a custom install of the Oracle client, you can get the minimal set of libraries required by the ODBC driver.
Client/ server systems like ODBC, however, aren't designed to be particularly lightweight. A protocol like JDBC, which is designed to be used with thin clients, is designed to be used without the Oracle client.

Mandrake Linux 8.0 - can't get Oracle Universal Installer to run
Hi all.
I'm having trouble getting Oracle's Universal Installer to run.
I'm trying to become DBA certified, so I went and purchased
(among
other materials) a book titled "Oracle8i for LINUX Starter Kit",
authored by Steve Bobrowski, published by Oracle Press / Osborne
McGraw-Hill, ISBN 0-07-212442-3.
The book includes a CD-ROM with Oracle8i Enterprise Edition,
Release 2, version 8.1.6 for LINUX.
I'm running an Intel P-III 500 MHz with 512MB RAM, 30GB hard disk
exclusively configured for Linux (no other O/S on it) and Oracle
(so LOTS of hard disk space is available), Matrox Millennium G400
video card (32MB).
My hardware exceeds all requirements listed in aforementioned
book, and also in Oracle's own documentation (from their web
site).
I'm running Mandrake's Linux 8.0, PowerPack Edition, with:
kernel = 2.4.3
XFree 4.0.3 (and I've also tried 3.3.6, with identical results
to those listed below)
glibc 2.2.2
I've followed the book's instructions to the letter, and set up
the environment variables, oracle user, and subdirectories as
required.
So far, so good.
OK. Now, here's where the problem appears:
I log in as the oracle user, and try to start the Oracle
Universal Installer (following the instructions in the book)
as follows:
cd /mnt/cdrom
./runInstaller
The computer tries to do some stuff, then spews the information
listed at the bottom of this posting to the screen. I press
<ENTER> after "OK" and get dumped back to the bash prompt.
That's it. I can't go any further. No Oracle Universal
Installer.
By the way, I've also downloaded Oracle8i Enterprise Edition
Release 3, version 8.1.7 from Oracle's website, and tried to
install that, too. Exactly same results.
The nice folks at Oracle have politely told me to get lost,
and not bug them for unpaid support.
I'd really like to get this stuff up and running, so I can
start studying and practicing for DBA, but I need help 'cause
this problem is beyond me.
So... can anyone help??
Thanks in advance.

Please tell me all reasons may be!Sorry the Oracle version should be 1.7 not 1.1.7. I downloaded it from the web site. The JRE I downloaded is jre 1.18 because the installer asked for this version.

Hi,
I've installed HTTP_Server from [Oracle HTTP Server (Apache 2.0) (10.1.3.3.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)|http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html] ; unfortunately, I was unable to control the installation process (select advanced install, password, hostname, port number...), because I got the "Oracle Universal Installer" instead of the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" screen, as shown in the installation documentation.
Although I suspect I'll be able to configure via the various configuration files, I've had to install every single component, instead of just the one I need. Has anyone encountered the same problem and know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Chris.Actually, my problem is that I was not prompted to choose between basic and advanced; that's in the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" screens, as seen in the installation instructions. But the "Oracle Universal Installer" screen that I get when I click setup.exe doesn't give you that choice.
This isn't actually a big deal, because HTTP_Server was still correctly installed, but I had to configure it manually. I'm just trying to figure out why it is that I didn't get the correct installer.
Does anyone know how I can get the "Oracle Webcenter Suite 10.1.3.2.0 Installation" application instead of the "Oracle Universal Installer"?

Oracle Universal Installer response files and platform independency
Hi all,
The Oracle Universal Installer is a platform-independent system, to what extent are Oracle Universal Installer response files platform-independent? For sure it's not completely platform-independent, because path definitions aren't portable - Windows versus Linux for example. My hope is that all possible variables within response files are exactly the same as on different platforms. Also the possible values for the variables should be portable, except for the path definitions, of course.
Can anyone confirm that my thoughts are true?
DurkHi,
This problem frequently occurs because of the wrong DISPLAY settings. Please perform the steps on a X-term terminal screen;
1) under root user
2) xhost +
3) su - ora<sid>
4) echo $DISPLAY
5) setenv DISPLAY <client ip>:(result of echo $DISPLAY) (for example setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.100:0.0)
6) xclock (test X-Client)
If it works then you will be able to run "./runInstaller", for example
cd /oracle/stage/102_64/database/Disk1/SAP
./RUNINSTALLER
You can check the [installation guide|https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000359232008E], also. Search for "4.4.3 Running the Oracle Universal Installer" title and read the details,
