9i Version of Designer

Is there any information about possible new version of Designer and for that matter a new version of Developer.
I've heard that release may be due this month to certify it on 9i, this is not the same as a version that supports 9i features and uses 9i DLLs.
The version I have seen still uses 8.0.5 DLLs and I've been waiting for an upgrade for a long time.

Oracle9i Designer will support the 9i Database and use the 9i DLLs. 9i Designer will be
available as part of the forthcoming Oracle9i Developer Suite (9iDS) pack, currently due in
the second quarter of this year.
Designer 6i Release 4.2 is the 6i release that is planned to be certified on the 9i database.
Please note that this release still uses the old DLLs, but works fine in terms of being able to
install and use a repository for your Designer/SCM purposes.
Please note that you will have to install and use the 9i Import and Export tools for 6i Release
4.2, as previous releases used the Oracle 8 Import/Export, but the Install Wizard and Guide
will provide all the relevant details.
Designer 6i Release 4.2 is finished and going through the usual release processes. Check
Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com) for it's availability.

Keeping older versions of Design Standard

This question is for professionals who've been using previous versions of Design Suites of any kind. I currently have a Student License version of Design Standard CS5. I've purchased hard copy versions of the same edition since CS3, and still have both previous versions on my MacBook Pro. The old versions are taking up quite a bit of space on my hard drive.
I'm wondering if I need to keep these older versions for any reason, or if I can put them on my external hard drive for the moment. I'm wondering, more than anything, if a client gives me files from older versions if they're backwards compatible in CS5, or if I'll need the older versions in order to be able to properly open and use them?
I would appreciate any feedback.

This would be a great question in the InDesign forum.
InDesign limits you to backsaving only one version at a time with the INX format. So you may want to keep older versions installed if you have to convert a CS5 document to CS3 via CS4 (caution, backsaving might muddle newer features). You might also work with a client that requires a document to be created in CS3 to match their own CS3 installation.
Adobe apps are not easily installed on external drives.
To save space, you can uninstall unnecessary components of the older Creative Suites (Illustrator, Photoshop) while still leaving InDesign. Run the installer to do this.

I know about versions 1.3 , 6 and 6i, but I dont know what are the other versions, and when they were released?

Designer 6i release 2, for about one years
Designer 6, for about two or three years
Designer/2000, for about three or four years

Possible or not upgrade PC version CS4 Design Premium to Apple Mac version

I have a big problem. Last year I bought a CS4 Design Premium package for the PC. However, I am switching systems to Apple (iMac) in a month and my CS4 for the PC won't work on an Apple Mac system. Buying new photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign is more expensive than I can afford. Is there a way to change or upgrade from PC to Mac? I hope anyone can help me.

Yes its called a Cross-Grade. You need to call Sales dept at Adobe There may or may not be some fee involved. Most software companies allow it. You may be asked to Destroy your PC Disk. Or
You and buy Parallels for your new Mac then install windows on the Parallels Partition (if you already have a Separate Windows install DVD). To get up and running if you don't have a packaged version (not OEM) of windows would be buy buy the cross Grade. If you have a Packaged version of Office laying around then buying Parallels for the Mac would be cheaper.

Invalid Eclipse platform version - BPEL Designer

Hello, when I try to install the BPEL designer, I get a popup "Invalid Eclipse platform version", "The version of the Eclipse platform installed at C:\Java\eclipse must be at least 3.0 (release)". I have Eclipse 3.0.1. Thank you.

Version control design for multi department collaboration

Hi all,
I've just implemented my first Hyperion Planning project. As a new commer, my design seem not good for the client.
- Requirement (Data flow): Marketing => Sales => Production (Manufacturing)
- Design: Each department data has its own version of data and use business rule to move data between versions
     + Marketing - Working version
     + Sales - Working version
     + Production - Working version
Each version is then assigned to a planning unit hierarchy for approval.
Is there any other way to resolve this data flow between departments? There's guy who suggests I should use Data Validation Rule and change approval path dynamically. Is it the best way to resolve my problem?
I really need a solution so that departments can collaborate with each other (result of previous department is base data for next department. If a department didn't finish their job, then next department can't enter data) but don't know how to implement it in Hyperion. Please help. Thank you so much.

Hi,
You seem to have over-designed the requirement. I think if you had used a single version (i.e. Working) for all the departments involved, you wouldn't have faced most of these issues. The key thing to remember is that Planning allows one planning unit to be edited by one user at a time. So when a particular user is done with the inputs (s)he can forward to another user (i.e. Department) for the next set of inputs.

Flash player version of Design View in FB3?

In FB3, the flash player version, which the design view uses is 9.
Can it be assigned to 10?
If the Vector class is used in some UI, it cannot be drawed in the design view.
(Although the target player is asigned to 10.)

What exactly does IE say you have in the Add Ons manager (name of the component and version number)?
If you're worried about conflicting versions, you can always try to do a clean install to make sure you have the latest version.

Grouping collected versions of Designer 6 application systems in 10g

Hello,
I wasn't sure how to make the Subject clear, hopefully I'll explain my problem anyway.
I'm testing the migration of application systems from Designer 6 to Designer 10g. Some of the v6 application systems are versioned in the sense that we created new versions and froze the current one, i.e in the RON, select Application > New Version in v6. So, we may have several 'versions' of an application system called TEST, i.e.
TEST (1)
TEST (2)
TEST (3)
... and so on to TEST (X). X is live, the rest are frozen.
In the 10g RON, each version (all frozen and live) of TEST appears as a separate Container in its own right. Imagine we have this situation with other named application systems we've migrated - we're dealing with a big list in the RON.
What I want to do is group all my TEST containers under a 'TEST' top level container to make navigating a bit easier (so I can expand the top level only if I want to see all the versions underneath). I did this and used the option 'Copy Application System' to copy TEST (1) and TEST (2) into this TEST top level. Unfortunately the audit info for TEST (1) and TEST (2) under the new TEST container has been lost - they now have today's date. As they're copies, I still have TEST (1) and TEST (2) as explicit Containers in their own right, but I can't see how to group them as I'd like without losing this audit info.
So - is this possible? If so, what am I doing wrong?
Hope I've explained myself. I should add we're not switching versioning on in 10g yet, so we've the GLOBAL_SHARED_WORKAREA for the moment.

Thanks again. We need to bring older versions of the frozen application systems, e.g. TEST(4), as we have interdependencies with other application systems (in terms of shared objects). Otherwise we would have only brought the latest versions over to simplify things.
When you say at the end of your reponse to 'start the SCM's method of versioning', you're talking about switching the versioning on in 10g, right? We were going to migrate our v6 content and use the GLOBAL_SHARED_WORKAREA for the moment, and enabling versioning and all that entails would be the next phase.

Setting Target Version in Designer ES Not Working

I am using LiveCycle Designer ES and I save the form target version to Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8.0 or later. However, whenever I open the form in Acrobat I receive the JavaScript Warning Window telling me that "The PDF form requires a new version of Adobe Acrobat....". However it opens in Reader perfectly fine.
Is there a fix for this?

Thanks. Designer generates a PDF version 1.7 for the target versions 8.0 and 8.1. Acrobat is able to tell the difference from the xfa template version. So an xfa template version of 2.5 is 8.0 compatible while 2.6 is 8.1 compatible. The xfa template of your form is 2.6 therefore Acrobat thinks its an 8.1 compatible form. <template xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-template/2.1/" xmlns="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-template/2.6/"> The xfa template is set based on the target version. However, it will be bumped up if the form contains features not supported by the target version. So to fix your problem, you need to find out which xfa 2.6 feature the form is using and disable it. See if there is any target version warnings in the Report palette. Does that help solve your problem? Hélène Adobe Systems

How can I buy a student version of Design Standard?

I have downloaded a trial of Design Standard cs6 and I would like to activate it as a student version. When I click on the link to buy the software it tells me that I can't buy it in my country. When I go to the specific NZ page and click the link to buy it (this link exists, therefore the software should be available) I am sent back to the US page. Everyone I have contacted at adobe seems to think that the free trial I downloaded came on a disk and won't tell me how to buy a serial number. Is there any way to actually pay for this software? Or should I just give up on Adobe altogether? At this point it's looking like it will take weeks to get hold of legal software.

Running two versions of Designer?

I have Designer 7.0 installed as part of CS2 and was wanting to install a trial version of 7.1 (?) to test out the tables feature. Is it possible to keep both versions on one machine without any problems? If not, and I install the trial, can I simply reinstall 7.0 from my CS disks after using the trial?

Cluster Version control Design question

Hi All,
I have an application where I store the data in a cluster. Suppose this is my ver. 1 of the application and the cluster consists of 3 I32. and I ship this application to the customer.
Now for the ver 2 I want to store a string to the cluster so I updated my cluster to 3 I32 and 1 String. But this ver 2 should also be able to read ver 1. just like MS Word 2007 is able to read .doc files
In my design, I am stroing the version number and data(as variant) in a cluster and convert that cluster to variant and do a 'variant to flattened string' before saving it to a file.
I am attaching my desing protoype here so you get a better idea of what I am talking about and suggest me if you think it can be done in a better way.
