9ias Database?

Could I install the portal repository on the same Designer 6i repositiry database or should I create a new database for oracle 9ias.
Thanks Amtiaz

If you give them different names, I don't see why not!

  • Using 9iAS Database for BI Applications?

We have a 9205 Database that is serving as our data warehouse. I have created several servlets and java client classes using BI Beans and JDeveloper. I want to deploy them using 9i Application Server. The 9iAS install installs another database. Should I use the database that 9iAS installs instead of my pre-existing database, or keep using the 9205 warehouse and have two complete databases on the same machine?
    Thanks

I have used HSQLDB for awhile. I have found it to be very useful, though I've mostly used it for simple, read-only databases. Definitely what I would recommend for your situation.

SuSE has a nice collection of the version
combos they found to be compatible at http://www.suse.de/en/support/oracle/
..scroll to the bottom of the page.
They seem to be working closely with ORACLE,
    even supporting 9i,9iAS and OPS!
    (this doesn't prevent developer's f60desm
to coredump on my SuSE 7.0 box, though :)

  • Oracle 9iAS Database cache

    Hi
We are using Oracle 9iAS 9.0.3.
I am interested to confirm if the Database Cache technology supplied with previous versions of Oracle 9iAS app server has been phased out. Does Oracle 9iAS 9.0.3 support it?
    Waiting for a quick reply.
    Thanks All

kishore, I don't see any problem installing iAS on two different machines, if that's what you mean. Whatever you install on the 'second' machine will not affect the first. Since they have the different oraInventory location.

  • Database Cache and Gateways

We are considering using Oracle Database Cache to speed up a web application that reads data from a mainframe database. Since Database Cache only works with Oracle databases, we plan to create a new Oracle database that acts as a gateway (using ODBC) to the mainframe.
The question we have is whether this would be possible and would make sense from a performance perspective. It is possible that Database Cache makes clever use of Oracle metadata (table update timestamps, etc) which would not be available for tables linked through ODBC. In this case, Database Cache might not work properly.
Is it possible to configure Database Cache in such a way that that the application reads data from the mainframe only when the data in the cache is more than an hour old?

    moving up...
    Hi
I have a question regarding the 9iAS database cache: when I
select a table to be cached, does the cache also pull up the
indexes definition from the origin database? Another way to put
it: if I cache a table which has an index on the PK ( on the
origin database ), is the index also created on the db cache or
it performs a full scan for every query?
    Thanks

  • Install 9iAS on Solaris

Can anyone tell me what kind of person my company will need to hire, in order to perform the install of Oracle 9iAS, database, webserver (and anything else that is needed). Do we need a system administrator who is not only proficient in setting up a Unix machine, but also someone who is familiar in Oracle specifics?
    Many thanks.

Eva, You don't necessarily have to go thru Oracle to find a technical person to do the install. I am one of their 9iAS strategic partners from the installation / integration side.
Email me the specifics of what you are looking for and I'll see if I can help.

  • Portal30 Installation/configuration problems.

    Subject: Portal30
Please share your solution in installing th Oracle Portal 3.0 (included in Oracle 9iAS installation.).
I am facing problem in its installation on WINDOWS 2000 server.
The first time I installed the Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2, the Portal30 and Portal30_sso were started . however while trying to configure the Porta-to-go I made some mistakes (What is to be given in the HTTP and HTTPS ports for the Web Integration developer preferences configuration and what is to be given in the settings of Web Integration Server at HTTP/HTTPS Port, User, etc.??).
Then I made mistake in uninstalling the 9iAS as I straightaway started the Universal Installer for deinstallation without first uninstalling the forms server, report server , etc, using oracle installer, then uninstalling the Portal30 7 Porta30_sso.
Any way I removed all the entries from the registry and also removed the directories from the disk.
When I started my installation for 9iAS database cache and Web cache configuration failed. But Portal 30 showed successfull . However there were some error messages dispalyed during the configuration of Portal30 as below:
    loading org/w3c/dom/html/HTMLHeadingElement
    Error while loading
    org/w3c/dom/html/HTMLHeadingElement
ORA-29506 invalid query derived from using clause.
ORA-00942 table or view does not exist.
    Error while accessing MD5 table.
When I did the other post installation configuration and tried to access the Portal30 home page error message as below was displayed :
    call to WPG_SESSION failed.
    error code 4068
Database login failed. TNS is unable to connect to destination. Invalid TNS address
supplied or destination is not listeneing.
The problem could be due to in correct TNS String or it may be due to Listener not started or due to underlying network.
I checked everything. Listener was started, TNS service name was correct (in the ORACLE_HOME of 9iAS \network\admin directory) and the underlying network was proper. DAD parameters were also correct.
However, when I checked the PWG_SESSION PACKAGE BODY status It was showing INVALID. When I checked the installation log..it showed error messages like table MD5 not found...
I am unable to configure my PORTAL30..Please help...or where can I get the solution...
    Thanks with regards

  • I want Report Server details.

In which Version of CD, Oracle Developer Server (especially Report Server) is available.
What is the deployment restrictions available in report server? and Let me know the Price of it.

Forms and Reports Server are part of Oracle 9iAS Enterprise Edition. You can download it from OTN (Downloads link at the top of this page).
I don't know exactly what you mean by deployment restrictions. Do you mean certified combinations of 9iAS, database and OS? Check out on:
    http://otn.oracle.com/support/metalink/index.html
For pricing info, go to the Oracle Store link, also at the top of this page.

I'm experiencing the same issue. There is no way to implement your solution, because we CAN'T connect to SQL*PLUS. If we do, we simply get the same error.

  • How to determine if user is a portal user

I am running a java servlet OUTSIDE of portal. I require a username. But I must first see if that person is also a Portal user.
Does anyone know of some way I can accomplish this? The only idea I have so far is to make a database link to the 9ias database and expose the wwsec_person view to my servlet. I am running into trouble since my wwsec_person view isn't populated for some reason.
I also thought about trying to find an api that returned user information from the oid, but since I am running outside of portal, I don't know if this is possible either.
    I would appreciated any ideas.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I think you have to set the context first with the plsql call wwctx_api.set_context all views are influenced by user & groups privilegs... see secure content repository views p 2-18

  • OC4J memory setting

I am testing Java uploadbean, which used to upload files (>200 MB) to Oracle 9iAS database, on our development server, win2k, 1G RAM + 4G Virtual Memory. The uploadbean tested ok on stand along OC4J with java option set upto 640 MB, but got java.outofmemory error on Dev with -Xsx128mb -Xmx256mb. Oracle Enterprise Manager's memory usage pie chart indicates that 800 MB of 1G RAM are used by other programs and only 200 MB can be used for application server. Where and how can I increase the memory allocation to the application server?
    Thanks

  • Problem Apache.exe, help me please!!!!!!

I have a problem, it appears to me the following error
    with Dr. Watson:
    Apache.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc000005), address: 0x60234d16
    my versions are:
    ORACLE Portal:3.0.7.6.2
    db ORACLE 8i:8.1.7.0.0
    how can to resolve this?
    thank by any idea

Apply the 8.1.7.1 patch to the 9ias database (and I'd recommend doing it to the database where portal is installed). There were some fixes to the Net8 listener that fix this. Ever since I applied the patch I haven't had anymore Dr. Watson's.

i don't know what is this error..
    anybody please help me

That's a mysterious error. But since it sounds like it's a Java class error, you might want to check the size of the java_pool_size and large_pool_size in the initialization file of your 9iAS database instance. I've seen other class errors come from having these settings way too low. If there's no room in memory, the classes can't get loaded and many times you won't even see this problem.
Be SURE to check the file "error_log" in your Apache directory for further clues.
