9ias Discoverer on TRU64

I have been led to believe that COMPAQ TRU64 is a tier 1 platform for Oracle Products.
With this in mind we have spent upwards of 0.5 Million Dollars on our database servers
to provide a fast and reliable Oracle service to our users.
I have since found out that Oracle Discoverer will still not run on this platform, even in
9ias release 2.
Can anyone tell me whether Oracle are actually doing anything about this?

Hi ,
Follow the document, it will work.

  • Performance when executing query on 9iAS Discoverer Plus 1.0.2.2

    Hi, anybody knows when there's information about Discoverer Plus configuration (9iAS release 1) to get a good performance? Because, when I run queries, the response time is not good enough.
    I have configured the pref.txt file based on the advises of "Oracle 9iAS Discoverer: Best Practices for Release 1.0.2.2 (Discoverer 4i Version 4.1.42x and later)" paper, but without the expected results. Does exist another document about that?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Pablo Ibarra.

    Hi,
    I'm a Pablo´s partner, he is on vacation now and is very sorried about not answering this forum. In particular, we need documentation about the improvement of running Discoverer queries on 9iAS, may be through configurations on the web server.
    We have tunned the queries on client/server, and they run on expected response times, do you know if there's a document "9iAS Discoverer Tunning"?, or something like that?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

  • 9iAS on Compaq Tru64 Unix

    Hi all,
    I plan to install 9i Application Server Enterprise Edition on Compaq Tru64 Unix
    running v5.0a.
    This will mean that the Unix Sever will
    act as a Database Server,Web server,
    Forms and Reports Server.
    The Developer Server will be on Windows NT
    which will be used to compile forms an reports and transferred to Unix.
    Will this work?
    Is this all possible?????

    Dont know 100% for sure.
    But i think, you have to recompile your
    Forms & Reports Application on your UNIX server.
    Its not portable through platforms as Java.
    But correct me if i'm wrong.
    Also just one remark to avoid confusion:
    There is no Database Server included in

  • Cannot find discoverer portlet in portlet repository (9iAS rel2)

    I would like to use discoverer portlet in my portal page. I have already install 9iAS 9.0.2.0.1 + 9iAS discoverer patch (9.0.2.5.3) and also patch 9iDS Discoverer to the same version (all products on Windows 2000). Then register the discoverer provider, it was successfully. But when I tried to add discoverer portlet from my portal page, I cannot find discoverer portlet provider in the repository. This happen without any errors. Any suggestion ?

    Try to refresh your Discoverer Portlet Provider. It should do the trick.

    Hi there,
    Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
    1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
    2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
    3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
    This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
    Hope this helps

  • Portal Integration with Discoverer

    How can discoverer application and workbooks be integrated with Portal? Currently designing for Data Warehouse project with webbased front end using 9iAs, Discoverer +, Reports.

    I have tried to do the thing you have described about hacking the disco_frame.htm code. But it will not work for me.
    The discoverer will not start. If I starts it, it will not take the undocumented parameters. Do you have any sugestions ?

    Even better than that you can get the properties of the URL (by right clicking -> Copy Shortcut) and then use that ANYWHERE in Portal not just under the External Apps Portlet. This also means that you can manage the External Application centrally and any url referencing it will be updated.
    If you want to be really smart you can embed the Discoverer Plus inside and HTML Portlet. This means the full application/report can be viewed through a Portlet.
    You need to basically hack the disco_frame.htm code and take out the following code:
    <script src="http://webserver/disco4i/scripts/htmlvars.js"></script>
    <script src="http://webserver/disco4i/scripts/browser.js"></script>
    <script src="http://webserver/disco4i/scripts/webdisc.js"></script>
    <script>
    document.writeln('<applet codebase="http://webserver/disco4i/applet"');
    document.writeln(' width="200"');
    document.writeln(' height="180"');
    document.writeln(' code = "oracle.disco.DiscoApplet.class"');
    document.writeln(' align="left"');
    document.writeln(' valign="TOP">');
    document.writeln('<param name="namespace" value="OracleDiscoverer4i">');
    document.writeln('<param name="useslibrary" value="Oracle Discoverer 4i">');
    document.writeln('<param name="useslibrarycodebase" value="dis4uie.cab">');
    document.writeln('<param name="useslibraryversion" value="'4,1,33'">');
    document.writeln('<param name="org.omg.CORBA.ORBClass" value="com.visigenic.vbroker.orb.ORB">');
    document.writeln('<param name="Session" value="'Disco4iOracleDiscovererSession4">');
    document.writeln('<param name="Locator" value="'Disco4iOracleDiscovererLocator4">');
    document.writeln('<param name="HELPDIR" value="help">');
    var pName = new Array(0);
    var pValue = new Array(0);
    // override default FrameDisplayStyle=separate
    if (doNotRedirect())
    pName[0] = "FrameDisplayStyle";
    pValue[0] = "";
    constructParamTagsOverride(parent.location.search, false, pName, pValue);
    document.writeln('</applet>');
    </script>
    There are some addtional document.writeln Parameters (NOT DOCUMENTED) that enable you to fire a workbook off automatically:
    document.writeln('<param name="UserName" value="DSMS">');
    document.writeln('<param name="Password" value="DSMS">');
    document.writeln('<param name="Database" value="orcl.uk.oracle.com">');
    document.writeln('<param name="WorkbookSource" value="Database">');
    document.writeln('<param name="Workbook" value="Demand">');
    The downside is that it will refresh each time you go to the page the portlet is in.
    We have also found a way of using PLSQL to interogate the EUL4 tables and present the user with a list of workbooks that have access to based on what is shared
    to them in the 'Sharing' Option. You can syncronise the Portal user and the Discoverer/Database user and hey presto, you have central managability...Almost. The
    'almost' being the fact that we haven't found a way of passing the Portal password into the url to launch Discoverer.

  • Two 9IAS pointing to the same orgin database !!

    Hello Guys,
    I need to setup such way that
    two 9IAS machines will be pointing to
    the same origin machine (i.e third m/c) !!!
    By doubt is what are products we need to install in the second machine !!!
    Let us say in the first machine, I install the following products
    Oracle9ias database cache
    oracle 9ias forms and reports services
    oracle http server in non-ssl mode
    oracle 9ias web cache
    oracle 9ias portal
    oracle 9ias discoverer
    oracle management server
    Let me guess, what should be install in second machine
    Oracle9ias database cache - yes
    oracle 9ias forms and reports services - yes
    oracle http server in non-ssl mode - yes
    oracle 9ias web cache - yes
    oracle 9ias portal - no
    oracle 9ias discoverer - yes
    oracle management server - yes
    Please let me know whether my jugement is right or not !!!
    I am only scared whether the original products(i.e first machine) will
    get updated !!!
    Thanks for your time !!!
    A.Kishore

    kishore, I don't see any problem installing iAS on two different machines, if that's what you mean. Whatever you install on the 'second' machine will not affect the first. Since they have the different oraInventory location.

  • Export option in discoverer viewer

    Hi All,
    I am using oracle 9ias discoverer and i need to remove export option from discoverer viewer page.
    I made changes in ui_config.xsl and also unchecked the export data option from preferences page, but it is not reflected in my workbook. when i click on the export data link, a new page is displayed with a combo to select export format and when i click on apply button it forwards to connection page.
    Can anyone please tell me why it is happening like this and how to resolve it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks and regards
    Mukesh Harjai

    I assume you are following the directions in Chapter 10 - "Customizing Discoverer Viewer" of the Oracle9iAS Discoverer Configuration Guide.
    You should be able to remove the Export link.
    If you are still struggling with this please log an SR/TAR to get detailed help from Support.

  • Discoverer and Oracle 9i Olap Option

    Hello,
    I have a question regarding Discoverer and OLAP option in Oracle 9i. Is it required to buy OLAP Option
    with Oracle9i when using 9iAS Discoverer or can I use it without this option?
    As I know Oracle BI Beans make use of 9i OLAP Option and Discoverer Graphs use Graph Component of BI
    Beans, so how this situation concerns OLAP Option (I haven't found any information that OLAP Option is required to use Discoverer)?
    Regards,
    Aleksander Miler

    Hi,
    Oracle OLAP is a multidimensional database on the top of the Oracle 9i database. It works like Oracle Express(MOLAP server).
    Anyway, you don't need to install Oracle OLAP option when you use Discoverer.

  • Discoverer Desktop 9i - how to find worksheet id

    Hi,
    I'm using Oracle9i Discoverer Desktop version 9.0.2.0.0.
    I miss some information to create the url needed to launch the workbook from internet explorer.
    The url is composed in this way:
    http://DNS/discoverer/viewer?nlsl=it-it&cn=connection_acronym&wb=workbook&wsk=worksheetID&qp_param1...
    I don't know how to get the worksheet ID, can somebody help me?
    Is there any other standard way to compose the url?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi
    I think you will be unlucky because I don't know of a way to get this information in 9i. Even in 10g R2 you cannot get at this information from within Desktop. You have to use Plus.
    To find out the unique ID of a worksheet in Discoverer 10.1.2 Plus:
    1.Start a Web browser.
    2. Run Discoverer Plus and open the worksheet.
    3. Choose Edit | Worksheet Properties to display the Worksheet Properties dialog.
    4.Display the General tab and look at the value in the Identifier field.
    With regards to looking at the options for the URL, take a look at chapter 8 of the 9iAS Discoverer Configuration Guide:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/A95458_02/urlstart.htm#1004903

    Hi.
    My company bought two Discoverer courses from Oracle University: Oracle 9iAS Discoverer Plus for end Users(1 CD) and Discoverer Administration(1 CD).
    I want to download the software in order to follow the course properly, but I am not sure what exactly to downlad for the End User and the Administration course.
    There are many options in the download section (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/discoverer/index.html), so I need to know wich is the right software to download for each course. Do I need to download the 9iAS also ? Can't Discoverer run as a standalone tool ?
    As you can see, I'm a Discoverer newbie, so any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi
    IAS needs for disco plus, but you can use disco in standalone mode with Admin and Desktop.
    But as I see in the otn you can't donlowd IAS9i any more.
    You can use disco 10g too, there no more difference between the two release.
