"9iAS Forms/Reports version" vs "9iAS Java Version"

Everybody knows that Oracle pushing for the JDeveloper 9i and 9iAS. The new "9iAS Java Version" for 5,000 dollars per CPU is a great price.
When Oracle is going to release a "9iAS Forms/Reports Version", which will include 5 developer licenses for Forms/Reports Developer 9i (not the entire 9iDS) and the 9iAS framework to deploy only the 9i forms and/or reports but nothing else - for 5,000 dollars?
As it is proven by the release of 9iAS Java Version, it is really not a technical issue - but a marketing decision to have a "9iAS Forms/Reports Version". Anybody from Oracle marketing?

At Oracle Open World, they said they will have a new BI package of the Application Server which will include HTTP, Web Cache, Discoverer, and Reports. It will also include 5 developer licenses so I'm guessing there will be a similar packaging of the Developer Suite. It may include JDeveloper too but I don't know.
So if you aren't using Forms, there will be one option to get Report Server cheaper than you can today. It is supposed to be released in January. If it includes JDeveloper, then you can migrate your Forms to J2EE and use this installer too.

  • PSP Vs Oracle 9iAS Form/Report Services

    Hi All,
    what is the difference in using the PSP and 9iAS Report/Form services, Can i use Oracle Form/Report Services in place of PSP, if so how and if not what i have to check for the other alternatives in ORacle for report/form designing as my project has 1000+ reports.

    If the two AS installs are fresh, I suggest that you wipe (uninstall) them both and re-install AS either with BI Forms option or the standalone F & R variant.
    Be sure to read the accompanying Installation Guide thoroughly before installing.

  • Access two EAS with different Essbase versions and different java versions from the same p.c.

    Hi,
    I need to regularly access Essbase 11.1.2.2. and Essbase 11.1.2.3 EAS from the same client machine.
    They are on, and must be on, different versions of java, is there a way to have both versions of java installed but each using the correct version and without the two java versions causing any kind of problems?
    thanks,
    Robert.

    Hi Robert...  I assume this is web-launched?
    I spent a day or so trying understand the intricacies of the JNLP protocol and create shortcuts that will invoke web-launched EAS with the appropriate version of Java.  I can get one version of EAS to use the 1.6 Java Web Launcher, and the other version of EAS to use the 1.7 Java Web Launcher - but both Web Launchers eventually invoke the same version of Java!  There are switches in the JNLP syntax that seem like they should allow you choose the actual Java version that gets invoked, but I just could not make it work.
    You can use the Java Control Panel (in Control Panel) to enable and disable the relevant versions before launching EAS.
    If you find otherwise I would love to know (or if you find out how to control which versions are enabled or disabled via command-line script).

    I downloaded the Java update version 7 update 9 as advised by computer - but the computer does not recognize the download - as instructed I  pressed Command R and also tried Command Q
    I downloaded the update twice - still the computer does not recognise the download.
    In my serarch on the web there seems to be issues in this download.
    I think there is an new patch  ,  Not sure where to find this that is relevant to my computer.
    Be grateful if someone could send me a link and instructions on the relevant choice for my computer.
    Also Do I need to uninstall old Java downloads.  if yes Please advisee how I should do this.
    Be grateful if you could send me a link that will allow the updated Java to be recogized by my computer Mac Version 10.7.5
    thank you

    I have downloaded the latest Java  (JRE)  and Java is checked enabled as well as  JavaScipt and Web plug-ins are enabled.
    I thought I would download once again  from your link - MacOSX jre7u6 Macosx-x64 dmg.
    On opening the package to install was advised that a higher version of the JRE is already installed on the system.
    Still unable to open my Labs software as the advice is still to download the latest Java.
    Checking the net again found another Java option for Mac Lion - so I downloaded and installed the version OS X2012 -006.
    Still no joy,  as my photo Lab software keeps givng me the same message that i to open " RGB Digital Direct" I need to download the Java Runtime Environment for Web Start Application.
    I  then went back into Java Website and it gave an option to detect whether I have the correct Java Software - report came back - Verified Java Version - " Congratulations You have the recommended Java installed ( Version 7 Update 9)"
    BE grateful of your expert advice.

  • I am trying to revert my Java to 1.6 from 1.7. The System Preferences Java icon is disabled. But when I enter java -version in terminal it shows 1.6.0_65.  Please help me in giving explicit commands to get back my Java 1.6

    I earlier had a java 1.7 installed in my system.  I wanted to revert the version back to 1.6.  I downloaded the file JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg and installed it in my hard disk.  I am not sure where it has installed it but it has successfully done it.  When I open up the terminal and enter java -version it shows 1.6.0_65 version as the java version.
    But in the System Preferences, Java is disabled and does not show the java as being installed.  Please guide me in getting my java 1.6 back.

    The preferences pain shows this message when I click on the Java icon -- “Java can’t be opened because it isn’t available".

  • Browser v/s JAVA version

    Hi,
    How can I know what Java version can handle a Browser?
    I mean, for example , A machine with IExplorer 5.0 ,windows 98, without SDK installed, what kind of Applet could run in it?
    Is any option, preferences or site where I can find this answer?
    thanks.

    You can test it with the following applet:import java.awt.Graphics;
    public class VersionTest extends java.applet.Applet {
        public void paint(Graphics g) {
         g.drawString("Java version: " + System.getProperty("java.version"), 10, 20);

  • Enum error and java version??

    The following code keeps giving me an error saying it expects a semi-colon at the open bracket. I've read its related to using an older version of Java, but I'd swear I'm using the most current! Am I missing something?
    public enum Months {
         JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL, MAY, JUNE, JULY,
         AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER;
    }When I run "java -version" it says "java version 1.6.0_02". I just downloaded and installed this earlier tonight...

    The error message says it all.
    If you check your enum, it has a semicolon at the end of December.
    You do not need semicolon there. Remove it and you will be ok.

  • DataModeler 4.0 will not boot with the proper Java version.

    I have downloaded datamodeler 4.0.0.825-no-jre.zip to use the 64bit edition on my Windows 7 PC.  While 3.3 (also 64-bit) works just fine and I have not modified any of its configuration files, regardless of what configuration file I modified for DataModeleler 4.0, the first dialog indicates a failure with "Unable to launch the java Virtual Machine Located at path:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_35\bin\msvcr71.dll".  This reference is made regardless if I double click from the Windows explorer or invoke Datamodeler 4.0 from the command line.  I use Powershell 3 when doing command line work.
    When at the command line I run "java -version" and the right version is referenced Java version "1.7.0_09".
    I look at my environmental variables (Workspace is identified by $Env: by Powershell), The word "Java" was not specified for any path:
    ($Env:Path).Split(';') | Where {$_.Value -match '(Java)'}
    I did see that the 32bit path was specified as an source with the CLASSPATH veriable:
    ($Env:ClassPath).Split(';')
    C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\QTJava.zip
    C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearQuest\cqjni.jar
    So I added "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_09" to the environment using the command line to pick up that java version.  Verifying my effort:
    ($Env:ClassPath).Split(';')
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_09
    C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\QTJava.zip
    C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearQuest\cqjni.jar
    I also have edited the datamodeler64.conf and the datamodeler-Darwin.conf to both reference the desired Java version.
    #SetJavaHome ../../jdk
    SetJavaHome "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_09"
    and
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Frameworks/javaVM.framework/Versions/1.7.0/Home  (I tried 1.7.0 and 1.7.0_09)
    #SetJavaHome /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home
    I don't know quite where to go from here.  Everything I have tried fails and somehow the 32-bit 1.6 Java reference persists.  I even went to the Windows Registry trying to find it there, but failed.  It there another place or configuration file to modify or strategy to try?  Thank you for

    Hi,
    I also have edited the datamodeler64.conf and the datamodeler-Darwin.conf to both reference the desired Java version.
    With Data Modeler version 4.0.0.825 on Windows 7, the file that identifies the JDK is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler\4.0.0.825\product.conf
    However, I would recommend you take Ivan's advice and download the production version (4.0.0.833) rather than continue with the Early Adopter version 4.0.0.825.

    Thanks for replying! How do I alter my path? (Sorry,
    I'm a complete newbie.)It's dependent on the OS that you are using, and I think it also is dependent on the shell that you are using. Google on your OS and shell and change path.
    Do also check if you have a symbolic link from java to the correct version. That's often used on unix/linux based systems, but all of this is pure OS specific and doesn't involve java at all.

  • Form & Report on a Webservice

    Hi,
    When I try to build a Form & Report on a web service(XDB web service), it won't allow me to build it by throwing an error message.
    The error message is ORA-20001: Unable to create form on table. ORA-20001: Query must begin with SELECT or WITH
    The webservice reference is a manually created simple soap envelope.
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:oraw="http://xmlns.oracle.com/orawsv" xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">

    </soapenv:Envelope>The form contains the input items needed for basic authentication. If I check the same soap envelope with SoapUI, or test the webservice reference in APEX it returns the result set with no issues.
    What could be the cause with apex form & report on webservice
    The Apex version is 4.0.0.00.46

    Hi,
    Yes I can build a webservice reference from the wsdl. But then it will recognize all other input attributes except for the crucial attribute <oraw:query_text type=""></oraw:query_text> . That's why I tend to create the soap envelope manually.

    Hi
    So far, I am using Oracle Forms 6i and 9iAS 1.0.2.0.0 to make forms run in web, as 9iAs brings itself the forms 6i server.
    I would like to know if I download and install the newest version of 9iAS (that comes with forms 9i) I will be able to run forms 6i as well, or it only runs forms 9i in web? Does it still brings forms 6i server? If not, how to install forms 6i server? It must be installed separatelly?
    Thanks!
    Luis Cabral

    You will have to have separate installs - running 6i forms under the latest version of iAS is not supported.
