9iAS in Windows is better than in Linux ?

The documentation of Oracle 9iAS for LINUX informs the following restrictions:
- Entity Beans in EJB is not supported: Session beans are supported only for accessing the middle-tier database
- EJB and SQLJ are not supported with JDK 1.2: they are supported with JDK 1.1.8
- Oracle Portal is not supported in the Enterprise Edition of 9iAS.
I want to ask if the Oracle 9iAS version for Windows NT/2000 doesn't have all these restrictions ? In that case is it better to install the 9iAS in Windows NT/2000 than in Linux ? or should we wait a new release of 9iAS for linux?
Thanks you very much for yours answers.

That entity beans in ejb is not supported, and only ejb for jdk 118 continue to prove that oracle does not consider linux a first run operating system. Ports for current releases from oracle go solaris/sparc, NT and then linux some months later, and frequently then with reduced functionality. Same goes for parallel server on linux, same story. I'm running 2000 server and it's blazing, with no documented apache on NT showstoppers. Linux is still not prime time.

  • Is Windows really better than a mac at running APPLE Software!!?!

Up until a month ago I was a whole hearted Windows user but after a play and some heavy convincing I decided that I would invest in my first Mac; a top-end Mac Mini with and upgraded 2gb RAM...great I thought!!!!
Once I got it set up and updated (running OS X 10.4.9) & Itunes 7.1.1 I set-up my ipod with Itunes and all could not be smoother!!
    Too good to be true.....YES!
I connected my Ipod up and it showed up on the Desktop...great...so I loaded Itunes and it wasnt there?!? So after some searching on the Net I reset my ipod....and hurray it now shows up in Itunes....however when it goes to sync I get a message saying that "not everything can be synched because the software on my ipod is too old"....it does however still show as synching a vast majority....however when unplugging the ipod the files its just spent the last 5 minutes synching arent there!! Confusing!! So I go to the summary page as instructed and try to do either a software update or a restore but the options are greyed out!?!! So I reformat the Ipod....still the same problem!!!
As a last ditch effort I plug it back into my windows machine....up pops some message boxes saying that it is in Recovery Mode, Do you want to restore? Do you want to Sync? And hey presto....My music is back and everything is working again!!!
I was planning on getting rid of my PC and getting another Mac but now I am wandering whether I need to keep it to update my ipod and anything else I find!
Anyone had any similar problems or know what my issue with Itunes on the Mac is?! I find it quite odd how it is smoother on the PC than on the MAC as it is Apple Software!!!!

I managed to resolve this problem by completing an Archive Install of Mac OS X as one of the Itunes Kernel files was corrupted.

  • How can i prove rac on linux is better than on windows ?

    Hi all,
Is there any document or any thread on this forum which will help me prove that RAC on linux is better than on windows. Actually i did not recommend to my management windows os for RAC, now the management wants the reason why did not recommend windows. I want some sort of proof or any document to prove my point. Please help ......

    > now the management wants the reason why did not recommend windows
Then give them reasons. TCO. In-house experience and skills with Linux. Official support from vendors like Sun for Linux on their servers. Linux being used as the core development platform for Oracle. Linux proven as a cluster-based operating system - it leads the supercomputer/cluster market by a significant percentage.
According to www.top500.org (listing the 500 fastest/biggest computers clusters on this planet)*:
    Operating System Family Top500
    Linux 85.20 %
    Mixed 6.80 %
    Unix      6.00 %
    Windows 1.20 %
    BSD Based 0.40 %
    Mac OS 0.40 %
    * (In other words, if Linux is good enough to run 85% of the world's fastest computers, it is more than good enough to run your company's RAC)
There are numerous sound reasons for choosing Linux over Windows. But do not make performance claims that you cannot ever hope to backup with technical evidence.

From your point of view and the framing of your question, Apple does indeed support WIndows better than Mac for the limited issue of iCloud.
    chewy cabeza wrote:
...YET, Leopard and Snow Leopard are NOT iCloud compatible. How can that be justified? Obviously, Apple can make iCloud available to Snow Leopard, but disdains us...
Historically speaking, Apple has rarely gone backwards in its OS development.  Once they have released a new OS with new technology, I can only think of one example of when they backtracked:  They released TrueType technology in System 7 and then released System 6.0.8, which included TrueType technology for continuing System 6 users.
So it is part of their culture to move forward and not backwards.  Other examples:
    •  Inclusion of the then novel SONY 3.5" disk drive in its release of the first Macintosh (and not the industry standard 5.25" drive); after its use in the Lisa and adoption for the Apple II series of computers.
    •  Elimination of the floppy drive completely in the release of the first iMac.
    •  Use of then novel AAC audio compression as "state of the art" compression for the iPod release in 2001 instead of the outdated mp3 standard.
    •  Refusal to allow use of FLASH in iPod Touch/iPhone/iPads.
How could they justify these decisions?  The marketplace justified them for Apple!
So, yes, they could release 10.6.9 with iCloud support.  But why now, if not then?

  • Meego is better than Windows Phone

I think Meego is better than Windows Phone from certain point of view,  at least the Name of Meego is nice than the Name of Windows Phone!

@Avenger_Osiris: As I have got the N9, I can already comment on that. I love the device. The buildquality is excellent, the screen is a pearl with vivid colours. The OS and UI is a new experience to me, but has so far been nothing but great. You adapt easily to how to navigate and the whole thing is so smooth.
There are of course lots of improvement needed, but I had no issues using it as my main device straight out of box. There are at least 2 updates coming as I know, and you also have the support from the community. It's a geeks device, but still easy enough for everyone to use.
Symbian is dying yes, but not as fast as we first thought. Even though the mess with Anna was a crazy mans circus, I still haven't heard anything saying that Nokia will stop the process with belle. Hopefully they will manage to get it out a bit quicker than with Anna.
I will comment on the lumia when I get it. That will also be a new experience to me - though I had a windows phone many years ago - motorola clam shell

Which windows is better to use for photoshop cc , 8.1 or 7

I made the transition from 7 to 8.1 about 6 months ago and can't say I've had any problems at all with PS CC.
If you are upgrading then I would say go for it. Are you upgrading the spec of your machine as well or do you already have a good set-up?

  • Why does a DVI or VGA look better than HDMI for 2nd Monitor

Why does a DVI or VGA connection for a program monitor look better than HDMI. I've tested this on several systems with CS5x and CS6. The full screen output from premiere definitely looks worse with HDMI.
I can often see visual differences with the Windows GUI as well, over sharpening of text and lines, harsh rendering of gradients. It looks like a VGA signal displayed on a television.
I've looked at the NVidia stetting and it appears to be set to 1920x1080 at 60hz either way, DVI or HDMI. On one Acer 20 inch monitor the was VGA, HDMI, Composite, Component, and Digital Tuner, but no DVI. The program monitor has always looked blah from the HDMI. So I recently switched the connection to a DVI to VGA adaptor, and now the video looks so much better.
    Any thoughts or explanations?

Just because the monitors accept a 1080P signal doesn't mean their native resolution is 1920x1080. At 20 inch they very likely can scale that signal down to the native resolution of the panel which may be 1600 x 900 or another resolution that is 16 x 9 resolution. That scaling can be done by the GPU or firmware on the Monitor depending on the video driver options and the firmware options. That scaling is also the most common cause to text and icon blurriness you are talking about. As an example there are Pro monitors that accept a 4K signal but scale it down to 2.5K or 2K on the actual panel. You might try going into your video card settings such as Nvidia control panel and look for the scaling options. Select GPU scaling and see if the preview is better. If that doesn't work select no scaling and see if it's better if the monitor firmware handles the scaling.

  • Windows Defender Beta 2 Stops iTunes 6.03 From Installing Completely

    Hey,
There is a bug with Windows Defender Beta 2 and iTunes.
I thought I would tell apple and Microsoft about it. Check microsoft beta newsgroups.
When you install iTunes 6.03 and have Windows Defender Beta 2 running it will cause iTunes setup to error with the following:
    http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/2262/itunesinstallerror5it.png
Clicking ok and install continues like normal and iTunes is installed ok. Have not run into any problems because of the errror in iTunes.
Now after installing iTunes Windows Defender Beta 2 flags its install since its trying to install a service.
    See:
    http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/8954/windowsdefenderbeta2allowerror.png
    And:
    http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/5468/windowsdefenderbeta2allowerror1.png
So here is to hoping Apple and Microsoft work this out sooner than later.
    Take Care,

Custom Build   Windows XP   Geforce 6800

Katrina--Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no way to turn off the new Windows Defender software (it's the replacement for the Microsoft Anti-Spy beta software). Fortunately, I already had iTunes 6.02.23 installed before I installed Windows Defender earlier this week. I had some big problems accessing the music store yesterday, but I've resolved them. (And I really don't think Defender was causing the problems. I think the music store home page was overwhelmed by people participating in the current contest.) If there's a conflict between Defender and iTunes it helps those of us using both to know this. Then we can figure out troubleshooting solutions to resolve the problem. If we come up with workarounds, it helps everyone on this board, doesn't it?
P.S., I understand Spybot has problems with the newest version of iTunes too. The mini-store is the culprit. I don't think these programs prevent you from using iTunes they just don't like some of the features in the mini store--so they warn you about them.

  • Windows 7 Beta problem - PLEASE HELP ME :(

I'm running the recently released Windows 7 public beta, and have so far got iTunes running and all my songs sorted out fine. But when I try to connect my iPod Classic, neither iTunes nor my PC recognises it, except for an unresponsive "iPod" entry under "Other Devices" in the device-manager (unresponsive in the sense that I have no option other than to scan for changes).
I've tried everything I can find on here: the 5Rs, some other stuff about uninstalling the device then reinstalling... everything! I haven't made any changes to the PC which could have prevented the iPod working - except installing the Windows 7 beta of course, but from what I've read online other people have had no issues with it and their iPods. Also, the PC worked with my iPod fine when it ran Vista.
Can anyone help me? I feel like I've tried everything.

IMHO u should write microsoft so they can improve that feature...
    it is a beta, remember....
    good luck..

  • Can I partition my hard drive to hold Windows 8 (Beta), instead of Windows 7, and can I do this with an external CD drive?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro with Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion installed, but my CD drive inside my computer is damaged*, and it's far cheaper to buy an external CD drive than to repair it entirely. Before I do either, I would like some grasp of whether or not it's worth my time and money, as I've yet to order the external drive or make a genius bar appointment.
Also, the reason I'm choosing Windows 8 (Beta) is because it's free.
*I dropped my computer once two years ago. I haven't even used my CD drive until recently when trying to install Windows 8. I assume the drop was the issue. I've used compressed air to remove dirt/dust as well as resetting the PRAM multiple times and nothing seems to work, but I'm not worried about it.
    Thank you.

Can I partition my hard drive to hold Windows 8 (Beta), instead of Windows 7, and can I do this with an external CD drive?
    No and No.
1: Apple only supports Windows 7 at this time in BootCamp (direct install into a bootable partition) because Win 8 is in Beta and no Mac hardware drivers are available yet from Apple for Windows 8.
2: You can't install Windows from a external cd drive into BootCamp, it has to be a internal one far as I know, perhaps a USB will work I don't know.
    Yes:
1: You can download and install Windows 8 Beta into a the free virtual machine software called VirtualBox, which Windows 8 will run in a window in OS X. This is better as it's still in Beta and Windows Beta releases will expire. Plus Windows 8 is a pain in the behind and you will want to be able to have VirtualBox or OS X be able to regain control over the computer.

  • Installing 11i apps on windows xp and Red Hat linux AS 3.0

    Hi,
I am a newbie to Oracle E-business suite............i will be very helpful if anybody could help me with the full procedure on how to install Oracle apps on windows on Windows XP and Red Hat linux AS 3.0.........starting with configuring ip.....i would really appreciate if somebody helps me out...........well thanks in advance..waiting for a optmistic reply...
    Thanks again,
    Virendra

I have done installation on XP and 2000 servers are heres the steps... detailed ones. I also request those who install Oracle Apps 11i to first read the installtion pdf's which helps you understand clearly the prerequisites overall.
You cannot find the Pre installtion steps(such as Mks Toolkit and GNUMake config) in more clear terms from those documents.Which are explained here.
The Must PDF's to refer before installation
    1)r1152ins.pdf
    2)11iconcepts.pdf
According to the 11iconcepts PDF you can decide your business needs the N-Tier Architecture and Database Server and Application Tier Server File System in a very clear terms.
The installation process can be divided into
    Pre Installtion,Installation and Post-Installation stages.
I would caution everyone to concentrate more on Pre Installation stage and which is more critical for a successfull installtion of Oracle Apps and to be free with later cropping up problems.
Further before moving into Installtion stages i have to Explain the Number of CD's and Installtion type's in Oracle App's.
In many places you may need to wait patiently even more than 10 minutes for screens(Dialog Boxes) to appear dont conclude prematurely some problem on system.
In oracle Apps 11.5.1 it consist of 12 CD's.
    1) Start Here CD(RAPID Installation Wizard)
    2)1-11 CD's
    1-3 Application Top information
    4th Oracle DB
    5-6 IAS and other tools
    7-11 Oracle Apps DB.
You have to decide whether you are going to do a Single Node Installation(No Post-Installation Task) or Multi Node Installation. Refer(r1152ins.pdf)
While installing for Multi Node you can see the Installation locations to be mentioned as
Appl_Top,Common_Top,Data_Top etc.Try to install Appl_top and common_Top in one drive and Data_Top in another Drive(Single Node) and in different nodes in Multi Node installation.

This are the actuall space required for the Oracle Apps Alone plan for more space for future needs etc.
    Softwares on System
Win2000 server with Patch1,Winzip and Acrobat Reader Latest version etc.
    Install VC++:
Install a clean installtion of VC++ of Visual Studio Family 6.0
It should be first installed before installing MKS or GNUMAKE
NOTE: When Visual C++ is installed, let the installer register all environment variables. This will allow executables to be linked from the command line.
How to Download and install MKS tool Kit:
Note:Try to purchase the MKS tool kit from the below site.
or try to download the trial version valid for a months time.
    http://www.mkssoftware.com/products/tk/ds_tkio.asp
    Evaluation copy from
    http://www.mkssoftware.com/eval/
Choose "MKS Toolkit for Interoperability " Download it in C:\
Again you have to click the downloaded kit to start the actual download of 38 MB of MKS tollkit Evaluation version.
You will be sent a Demo serial number to your mail id==>copy the same to a Notepad on your desktop.
Now start the installtion of the MKSToolkit on your system by clicking on the MKStoolkit downloaded.
It will prompt you for the Demo serial number which has to be provided.
The MKStoolkit will be successfully installed.
How to Download and Configure GNUMAKE:
    1) HOW TO GET AND INSTALL GNUMAKE ON WINDOWS2000
This can be done by performing the following steps:
NOTE: Please, be aware that you must install Visual C++ BEFORE installing GNUMAKE, because its installation process involves linking executables.
    1) Before downloading GNUMAKE, you will need to acquire some utilities which will be used for unpacking files. You can obtain the required utilities at the following
    URL: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/windows/emacs/utilities/i386/
The directory contains the following files:
    README
    djtarnt.exe
    gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe
    gzip-1.2.4-i386.exe
    tar-1.11.2-i386.exe
    tar-1.11.2a.exe
Only two of the files are required:
    gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe and tar-1.11.2a.exe
    2) After downloading the above files, rename them as follows:
    gunzip-1.2.4-i386.exe => gunzip.exe
    tar-1.11.2a.exe => tar.exe
Place them into a directory that you can set in you PATH environment variable.
    3) Point your browser to the following
    URL: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/make
The files needed from this directory are:
    make-3.77.tar.gz
    make-3.78.1.tar.gz
    make-3.79.1.tar.gz
    make-3.79.tar.gz
Development requires to install version 3.77 or above. Downloading the latest version is perhaps best decision, but there are advantages to downloading the version required by development (3.77). (This document assumes that version 3.77 has been downloaded) (NOTE: AVOID USING SPACES IN
DIRECTORY AND FILE NAMES. GNUMAKE,VISUAL C++, ETC. DO NOT ALWAYS DEAL WELL WITH SPACES)
    4) For instance, suppose you have downloaded file make-3.77.tar.gz on a directory called C:\GNUMAKE, unpack this file using gunzip.exe from a Command Prompt Window
Example: C:\GNUMAKE>gunzip make-3.77.tar.gz This last action, will expand file make-3.77.tar.gz and the extension .gz will be removed.
    5) On the same Command Prompt Window, you should UnTAR the file, with the following
command: C:\GNUMAKE>tar -xvf make-3.77.tar This will create a new subdirectory called MAKE-3.77 under C:\GNUMAKE, the original directory.
    6) In the new subdirectory, there is a batch file
called build_w32.bat; run the batch file to generate GNUMAKE.EXE
Try this from Command Prompt more than once if succesfully not built message appers till you get Generated successfully.
Note:If Possible run all the bat files in the MAKE-3.77 and also config.bat in the sub directory by double clicking it.
WARNING: There is a known issue with this last step, "GNU make fails to build regardless of chosing build_w32 or nmake"
    See [NOTE:115937.1]

    My Computers==>Properties==>Advanced==>Environment variables==>Path setting's
After all this check as follows from CMD mode.
    1)execute make at c:\>
    2)execute gnumake at c:\>

    Create Applmgr user in Win2000:
Create a Applmgr user account in win2000 .
    Installation:
    =============
What here you require is the Patience .
Load the START HERE CD and run the C:\> cd \cdrom\rapidwiz
For Test and Prod it will ask for the location of Appl_Top,Common_Top and Data_Top location. Mention there path and ensure if more than one installtion say eg.Vision and Test or Prod to check the Path in all the tab pages its corresponding values and path's.
In Vision Demo many of the Options are not propmted from the user.
It will then do the system checking for Host Name and other details. All the checking should have been passed or if failed it will mark it in RED cross mark.Rectify the mistake and then onceagain proceed or else you will have problem after installation.
The Installation time takes around 5 to 6 Hrs of time.
For info on Post installation or on Multi Node follow the pdf's i have mentioned above.
The most tedious of all is succesfully crossing the Apps system checking it does for all
installed products it requires without any failure.
The GNUMAKE configuration or steps were nowhere given and it was all our trail and error exp.
This is possibly the most elaborate steps to install Apps on Win. post for further help. email me at [email protected] or [email protected]

  • Why Annyconecct is better than vpn client ?

why anyconnect is better than cisco vpn client ?
    what is its advangatges ?
i think that both are remoteaccess vpn .
    why its better ?

The other thing is that, Cisco does not support traditional VPN on Windows 8.X.  I have run in to lots of issues trying to install  Cisco VPN client on Windows 8.x clients..  it sometimes work and sometimes it needs registry hacks etc.. really painful setup for the network engineer.  So Anyconnect is preffered.
Also, since SSL uses port 443/SSL by default,  it does not need any ALG (Application Layer Gateway) functionality in remote end user's routers to operate, and will simply work with normal PAT which is always on..  with traditional IPSec VPN, since it uses ESP, you need to have AGL turned on on the user's GW router (this is normally called IPSec VPN pass through mode) and this sometimes doesn't work the way you want specially on the older residential routers. When this happens you really don't have any other option for those users.. and your only response would be "Sorry your router does not support this kind of VPN  or  your router does something strange with the VPN  so Please upgrade your router" which is something the normal residential user don't want to hear.. and something you want to tell them..
So SSL VPN is the way to go..

  • Is Intel better than Power PC?

    Hi
Is Intel better than Power PC?
The reason I ask this is that Iv been transferring data from my old 350 G4 to my new Mac Book Via Fire wire (G4 in target mode) and Iv had some crashes with the Finder. This pretty much never happened with my old Mac. Force quitting does not save me like it use to if an app crashed. It just goes into a spin and stays there, thinking. Reminds me of Windows XP.
    Any Ideas. Thoughts. Etc.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1G Ram

    Daimon,
I would say it's a subjective answer based on use. Be glad that you have a machine that supports target mode. My B&W is a nightmare for transfers. The only irritating crashes I've had are the same as with any of my machines (Safari), which is probably due to a plugin.
I have had the experience of force quitting not quitting an application. A kill -9 doing the same thing. It looks like force quitting does quit the problem applications (processor usage drops back down), but they stay active in the dock. A restart functioned normally for me and that went away. The only applications this happens with were popcorn 2 and toast 7.1. Both of those are PPC apps that just made the intel transition and basically device drivers..so I would almost expect them to have been problematic. Everything else has been basically fine.
As to what's better. Security wise, there might be some concern about the Out-of-order execution distribution system of the PPC vs x86. PPC could be considered slightly more secure as it is difficult to gain data from the stack w/o being able to accurately predict the position. However, this is trivial first and is probably remedied a lot by the dual core setup....and it requires a level of access that Mac OS X doesn't just give up to anyone. When you get to performance...to me it's night and day.
I like to put a lot of my video content on my machine in a highly compressed state. It makes it convenient to watch movies or a series and you don't need to have a loud optical drive spinning around. If I was to use something like Handbrake or Instant Handbrake: http://handbrake.m0k.org/ to encode to h.264 on a G5 it would take long enough that I would have to go do something else. On the dual core chips it's almost unbelievable. It's not that the 950 chipset does hardware h.264 encoding (I know some ATI 1xxx cards have this capability, but the only intel data http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/ I've seen indicate MPEG-2 playback is the highest video optimization ), it's that SSE(1,2,3) on a dual core processor with an application designed for multiple cores/processors (not the same physically, but application wise it's close enough), flies. We're talking something going from 7 fps to 48 fps (better than real time).
There is definitely a Wow factor to these machines. Maybe you just need to try something like that to find it.
I think the instability is due to transitional software. Another thing you may want to consider is that many included applications and parts of Mac OS X aren't pushing the chips anywhere near the limit. Many things just use 100 of 200% . Wait a while and more things will be introduced or updated that make your new machine fly.
I haven't had a finder crash that I recall. Nor a beach ball I couldn't get out of. If it is just limited to the dock (as it appears to be for me), then it's a minor issue. There have been comments about the Rosetta process translated quitting (IIRC), and I will add that twice I have experienced a situation where PPC apps bounced w/o launching. A restart fixed that.
Windows isn't that bad. Even on a core duo (not a centrino duo Tiger is still easier to stabilize/ 'more stable'.
I think a lot of the issues you are having are just growing pains and transfer of apps or files that, while they may have been updated to 'universal binary', aren't designed for the chips in these machines from the ground up.
Give it some time and try some of the things that make these machines better, because subjectively...I think these machines are better.
Another idea...running PPC apps takes a LOT of memory for speed (otherwise you're paging like a maniac) so either up your machines memory or run one PPC app at a time.
    Good Luck,

  • Whether installing 64bit OS is better than 32bit in a 64 bit PC?

    Hallo friends,
Now a days 64bit PCs are more common. But I think Operating systems and programs have not attained  capacity to fully exploit the power of 64bit machines. (Of course Linux is better than MS counterparts in 64bit zone). If it is sensible to stick with 32bit for better experience in terms of stability and performance? What are the pros and cons of both methods? How we can attain maximum from 64bit PC?   Since every one with a 64bit PC have tried both architectures, feed back opinions and suggestions in the above thread is anticipated from everyone.
    Thanks to all
