9iAS on RedHat

Hi there ...
Why is 9iAS Version 1.0.2.2 for Linux only certified for SuSE Linux ? Will it be certified for RedHat soon or has somebody installed it sucessfully on RedHat ?

Redhat declined to participate in any further certfication programs as they're getting ready to release their own database product (chuckle)...
Give up on Redhat and switch to SuSE 7.2 I was a skeptic, but in the end am very impressed with Suse's distribution. Very well done. Best part is, it's a certified combo for everything currently in use. 9ias, 8i etc etc...
Best $70 I ever spent.

Reports Server, 9iAS R2, Redhat 7.3

Hello,
My installation of 9iAS R2 proceeded fine after I installed the openmotif21 compatibilty rpm, but post installation I am still unable to start the reports server successfully.
When I run the command 'rwserver.sh server=rep_oradev' the server dialog box comes up with the message server starting up, but it never does. There is no error message or log entry either?
IF I edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf/rep_oradev.conf so it only has the entry for the 'URLEngine', it will successfully start this server by itself, however it fails when I put the old entry for 'Engine' back in.
Has anyone successfully got the reports server running on RH7.3 and if so did they need to do anything in particular.

"SPS 2.1 (just started beta) will be officially supported on rh 7.3"
This was posted last June, so if you have the 2.1 release of the SPS then you should be OK.

Report Engine rwEng-0 crashed when server startup

I installed 9ias on RedHat Linux, and applied the latest patches(Core patch 2, NT patch 1, form&report patch 2).But when I start the report server(in-process server).
The report server's log shows:

Red hat Linux support for Oracle

Hi! Can some body tell me which version of Red Hat Linux is supported. I was told that Oracle supports only upto Red hat 7.1 for Oracle 8.1.7.3.

Apache httpd dies for no obvious reason.

( Oracle 9iAS on RedHat 6.2 w/ /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/bin/java -version

Once in a while the HTTP listenneer dies giving the below entries in the error log file.
First there are alot of these, which is normal:

Then something bad happens and the HTTP listener decides to exit:

Then it starts killling the child processes (which is too normal):

etc..
I've reviewed the access log file for suspected entries. For example if a client somehow called a buggy app I should see the same call in the access log before it dies but I can't find any reasonable pattern.
The HTTPd dies a couple times per 24h, the system resources are not heavily utilised.
Any info on this would very appreciated, thanks.

You can check for issues caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Succes installing 9iAS R2 (release 2) on RedHat Linux 7.3

I had success installing 9iAS release 2 on RedHat Linux 7.3. I used the instructions on http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml.
At first, I tried this on RedHat 8.0. Funny thing is: installation of infrastructure failed even though I followed the instructions. Then I downloaded 7.3, followed EXACTLY the same instructions and voila, works like a charm.
Puschitz' instructions are for 9i and not for 9iAS though. Some additions:
1) One of the pre-installation steps there says to set some environment variables, one of them being the SID. It's set to 'test', but of course with standard settings the sid of the database that comes along with 9iAS has a SID of 'iasdb'.
2) Also what I did, was to downgrade the binutils package to the version provided by Oracle here: http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/files/binutils_readme.html. As an alternative, Puschitz says to change some makefiles. I didn't try this.
3) I then installed the infrastructure. When finished, I exited the installation and rebooted. After the reboot:
4) I changed to the /bin directory and typed (as root):
ln -s /sbin/fuser
5) Changed back to user 'oracle' and started the infrastructure with:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus
connect / as sysdba
startup
exit
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/lsnrctl start
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/oidmon connect=iasdb start
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/oidctl connect=iasdb server=oidldapd instance=1 start
$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
6) Then started the installer and did the middletier installation. Rebooted.

Following your instructions i've also succesfull installation of ias9iR2 Infrastructure on Redhat7.3. Checked the database Iasdb and Enterprise Manager Website (on http://liminwang:1810), everything works fine. Hence i try to install Portal & Wireless on the same machine on a different Oracle_home (but on the same Oracle_base) according to the installation guide. The installation stuck when i've chosen the Portal and Wireless option. I get a warning that the Enterprise Manager Website Process is still running and it must be stopped to proceed the stallation. So i stopped this process by: $oracle_home/bin/emctl stop
Still i get the same warning. Stopping the database also doesn't help. Even when i deinstalled the Enterprise Manager Website component i get the same warning.
Please help!

Installation problem of Oracle 9iAS rel2 on redhat advanced server 2.1

I am trying to install Oracle 9ias Rel2 on redhat advanced server 2.1
Following instructions i downloaded and installed the binutils patch binutils-2.11.90.0.8-13.i386.rpm
I have set ORACLE_HOME appropriately and created a new user oracle.
During installtion of 'J2EE and WebCache' , when it starts linking, the installer gives the following error
Error in invoking target ntcontab.o of makefile /home/oracle/Appserver/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
Retry, Ignore,cancel...
If i press ignore, it gives series of such errors.
My ORACLE_HOME is /home/oracle/Appserver/
I am trying to set up the production environment.
Please help!!!

Click "Retry" at error popup window. Installer will continue.

Installing 9iAS Java Edition 9.0.3 on RedHat Linux 8.0, 7.2

Hi,
Iam trying to install oracle 9iAS Java Edition 9.0.3 on RedHat Linux 8.0 and 7.2. But i have common problems during installation.
I get the following error while installing -
Error in invoking target install of makefile
/home/oracle/servers/9ias/sqlplus/lib/ins_sqlpluslib.mk
Error in invoking target install of makefile
/home/oracle/servers/9ias/network/lib/ins_oemagent.mk
Similarly i get one more error. I dont remember the actual file name.
Once i ignore all these errors then the OC4J instance configuration assistant and OPMN assistant do not start. They have some deployment problems during installation.
After the installation is complete with certain problems, i try to start all the services of DCM, using dcmctl start command
/home/oracle/servers/9ias/dcm>dcmctl start.
The other services start except the HTTP server. I get the error ADMN-906025
Iam not able to start the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
also...
Kindly give me the exact steps to overcome this problem or a link to some documentation...please

9iAS Release2 on RedHat 8 - ORA-1503

I'm attempting an install of Oracle 9iAS Release 2 (9.0.2.1) on RedHat 8. During install I initially received some linking errors, but was able to resolve them by performing the following actions:
1. Go into the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory
2. Open the file 'genclntsh' with an editor
3. Locate the line LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs"
4. Replace the line with that string LD_SELF_CONTAINED=""
5. Run the genclntsh script
6. Return to the dialog and klick at the 'Retry' button
The install continued, but failed during DB Configuration Assistant.
COMPLETED - Copying Database Files
COMPLETED - Initializing database
IN PROGRESS - Creating and Starting Oracle Instance
The error occurs at that 3rd step. "ORA-1503: CREATE CONTROLFILE FAILED" (IGNORE/ABORT)
The alert Log states:

I checked the directory permissions as well as free space. I am good there. It looks like the control files were created as 3 of them (same size, date, time) as well as 3 redolog files are contained within the oradata directory.
Suggestions? Fixes? Ideas?

the error messages are telling you that either
1) you do not have a running database OR
2) you have not set your ORACLE_SID
Set your ORACLE_SID
export ORACLE_SID=mySIDname
then sqlplus '/ as sysdba'
startup
this should get the instance running if it is not already.
if you get a message stating that you cannot startup an already running instance, then you have corrected option 2 just by setting your ORACLE_SID
you should be OK at this point

Configaration Problems to install 9iAS Ifrastructure on RedHat Linus AS

Following components configaration failed at the time of 9i AS installation on RedHat Linux AS....
1. Applying RDBMS Bundled Patch - No value
2. Siggle Sign-On Configaration Assistant -message given- failed to update targets.xml
3. Infrastructure mod_osso Configaration Assistant.
4. OC4J Instance Configaration Assistant.
5. OPMN Configaration Assistant - start HTTP Server
6. OPMN Configaration Assistant - start DAS Instance
7. DCM Repository Backup Assistant -message given- ADMN 906011
need immediate solution.

You haven't set up your prerequisites such as
pdksh version
binutils version
do the commands rpm -qa | grep pdksh
and rpm -qa | grep binutils
to see which versions you have installed (if any)
You need to set up Environment ulimit and kernel parameters
its in the documentation but to summarise:
to set the ulimits for the oracle user.
Type cd /etc/security
Type vi limits.conf
Add the following lines to the file.
@oracle<tab><tab>hard<tab>nofile<tab><tab>65535
@oracle<tab><tab>hard<tab>nproc<tab><tab>16384
@dba<tab><tab>hard<tab>nofile<tab><tab>65535
@dba<tab><tab>hard<tab>nproc<tab><tab>16384
Save the file.
Note: <tab> means press the tab key.
Check that this has worked by typing
su â oracle
ulimit â aH
You should see something like this
core file size (blocks) unlimited
data seg size (kbytes) unlimited
file size (blocks) unlimited
max locked memory (kbytes) unlimited
max memory size (kbytes) unlimited
open files 65535
pipe size (512 bytes) 8
stack size (kbytes) unlimited

Press CTRL-D to get back to the root shell.
You now need to set the kernel parameters.
Type cd /etc
Type vi sysctl.conf
Add the following lines to the file
# Oracle additions
kernel.sem = 100 32000 100 100
kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
kernel.shmmni = 100
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
fs.file-max = 65536
Save the file
Reboot the system to bring in the changes.
Logon as root and do the following:
Type cd /etc
Type vi services
Remove the following 4 lines
ldap 389/tcp
ldap 389/udp
ldaps 636/tcp # LDAP over SSL
ldaps 636/udp # LDAP over SSL
Save the file.
Type cd /bin
Type ln âs /sbin/fuser fuser
All these must be set up before you install oracle 9ias on Linux otherwise you will get the problems you describe :-)

9i & 9ias SuSe vs RedHat

Does the 9i and 9ias downloads work on RedHat 7.1? It says it is validated on SuSe, does this mean it only works on this flavor of Linux?

This is probably because Suse is smart and sent technicians on-site to oracle while 9i was in development. RedHat was caught as usual sitting on it's collective fat ass. As someone who's used both, (and purchased red hat 6.2 enterprise for an astounding sum) the redhat distribution designed for oracle was a farce. Suse appears to be much cleaner and much closer to the package requirement, I'm going to be installing and testing over the next few days so I'll let you know. And by the way, at 69$ for the Suse distibution what's the point of complaining about Red Hat ?

Oracle 9IAS 1.2.2.0 on Redhat Linux 7.1

I've tried to install this version of 9iAS without success.
On the same machine I've installed the 1.2.0.1 version using the usual instructions for this distro (compat libs + ibm jre) and it worked fine.
Now I have a problem totally different from what I've seen on this forum. When the installer ends analyzing dependencies it begins with "executing pre-requisites" and then the installer's window closes. Taking a look into the oraInventory log files I've found this (logs/oraInstall.err)

Change the listener port inside of your httpd.conf file. Then re-run ssodatan script. If you run ssodatan without any options, it will show you the required parameters along with an example. Follow its lead...
