9iAS r2 with OSE

I have installed 9i ver.1 database which includes Oracle Servlet Engine (OSE) for running JSP files.
I want to upgrade to database ver.2, but the new version does not include OSE. Will OSE be available at Application Server ver.2 (whenever it will be available for Win2K)?

Oracle9iAS includes Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE (OC4J), a fully compliant J2EE container that runs Java servlets, jsps, and ejbs. OC4J is a highly performant container that runs on a standalone JDK JVM. It is recommended that you run J2EE applications on OC4J.
Oracle9iAS Release 2 does not ship the OSE that runs within the JVM built into the Oracle database.

9iAS comes with an Email Server, if that is what you are asking.
You could always write an IMAP portlet, which allows you to read/send mail.

Oracle 8.1.7 with OSE affected by HTTP TRACE / TRACK vulnerability

I had no luck using the search function for the problem I'm facing. As for the possibility of posting this in the wrong category, I apologize.
I'm supporting an application that uses Oracle 8.1.7 in a Solaris 9 environment. The web server in use is Apache 1.3.12.
In a security scan, the HTTP TRACK/TRACE vulnerability was found on port 8080. I immediately checked the apache config file (httpd.conf) and found that the apache instance runs on port 7777 and the TRACE and TRACK method is already disabled.
With some help from a colleague, I found that the Oracle Servlet Engine (OSE) admin service is running on port 8080. Disabling this service is not an option because it renders the application unusable. How can I disable these HTTP methods?
If more information is required, do ask.

It still seems incredibly low priority to me - I'm not sure if you could even exploit that vulnerability in this instance, even somone did get onto your network.
But, you could configure requests to be routed via the http server http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A87860_01/doc/java.817/a83720/modi_apa.htm#77221 - which will filter out the track/trace requests, but I'm not sure if you could disable direct access to the servlet engine.
Apart from that, not really sure.

Share core 9iAS (Linux) with other local users?

Finally set up core 9iAS on Red Hat. Now I'd like to know how to configure it to either start as a system service, be runnable by users other than 'oracle', or be persistent even after 'oracle' logs off. Bottom line: disassociate the 9iAS processes from the 'oracle' user session.
Since I only have one dual-boot Linux box for dev purpose (no dedicated server here! :-)), what I want to do is to first start 9iAS, then connect to it from a regular user account via JDeveloper.
Tried changing file permissions and using nohup - neither works.

Creating new users for SMB access is way too complicated, because Apple has not really implemented the "sharing user" fully for SMB users. Thus, when you create a new user, and go to System Prefs -> Sharing -> File Sharing -> Options, the sharing user is NOT listed under the users to enable for access via SMB.
However, there is a workaround that can get your "sharing user" up and going via SMB.
1. Go to System Prefs -> Accounts. Click on the padlock to authenticate as admin.
2. Then right click on your "sharing only" user (not Guest) and select "advanced...".
3. There you will see that the Login Shell is set to a particular value (/usr/bin/false from memory). Take note of the value that is there.
4. Change this value (from the drop down list) to "/bin/bash".
5. Go to Sharing -> File Sharing -> Options... You will see that your sharing only user is now listed under SMB sharing.
6. Tick the box for SMB sharing on the sharing only user and enter the password for that user.
7. Go back to Accounts. Right click on your "sharing only" user and select "advanced..."
8. Type in the value that you took note of in step 3 at "Login Shell" (and press ok).
That's it! Now you can connect from Windows using the new sharing only user.
In effect, this process temporarily enable the "sharing only" user for shell login to your Mac. By doing so, it enables the SMB password to be set. You then disable the shell login capability , and SMB sharing is enabled, whilst shell login is disabled.
If you ever want to remove SMB access through that user, you will need to repeat the steps again, (although this time you will have to untick the box in step 6.

Using 9iAS Portal with IIS

Hi!
First, is it possible to use 9iAS with IIS as http - listener, and not Apache?
If so:
Has anyone found any documentation / howto's on IIS and 9iAS?
Will everything work transparent of the IIS webserver, ex. Oracle Reports integration, PDK (iFrame Portlet ++), Single Sign on?
Has anyone done this?

Umm, IIS runs ASP pages, which can be written either in VBScript or JScript. Servlets cannot be embedded in or called from within ASP pages. I guess they could be invoked via an HTTP redirect or by creating under-the-hood HTTP connection to the servlet, but that's nasty and circuitous. I'd really recommend finding a way to do what you want in ASP.
Servlets/JSP's require a Java-based container to run in. There are Servlet containers that work with IIS - check out Tomcat @ jakarta.apache.org
As for the second question, any Java code can be run from within a Servlet - what's stopping you from using that exact code snippet to do what you want to do?

9iAS installation with 9i DB on same machine(Urgent)

Hi,
I have installed Oracle 9i on windows NT. The installation was successful. And am now trying to install Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 on same machine.I have done all the necessary pre-installation tasks.
But as soon I run setup of disk 1 of 9iAS it gives error as =>
Dialogue box title: "SEVERE: Unable to verify iSuite Product Install Configuration"
And message is:
"Setup has detected that your iSuite Product Install has not been setup correctly, probably because the installation was aborted.
Please restart Setup."
The installation of Oracle 9i was successful and was not aborted in between or so.
Even if I restart the setup same errors comes.
I am not able to understand why this error is coming. Is it a problem related to the installer version? Has somebody come across such a problem? Please help. I need it quite urgently.

Converting 9ias installation with infrastructure to standalone version

I have a 9ias web server which runs OC4J applications that was installed against an infrastructure server and which uses that server via OID to connect to the oracle databases.
The infrastructure server was to be used to administer SSO but this is no longer required. Is it possible to remove the link between the 9ias web server and the infrastucture and turn it into a standalone version ? If so how do I do it ?.

Can't install 9iAS together with DB 9.2.0.2

I am trying to install both Oracle9i release 2 and Oracle 9i AS into the same Oracle Home, but it does not allow me to. So you end up with two copies of almost everything, and even running two instances of the components. What a waste of resources.
Does anyone know which version is compatable with which, I mean they can be installed together?

The "Database" components of AS are of a different release so you shouldn't install all in a single home (would end up with two sets anyway)
This kind of setup has another problem. There's a major compatibility issue in DB 9.2 related to single-machine install that already has AS (we have a BUG open about this).

Starting/Stopping 9iAS Infrastructures with batch files

I created the following two batch files to start and stop my iAS Infrastructure. I found that if I used the services settings of automatic, all did not go well.

When I execute the batch files sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, for example after starting, occasionally the Apache process has not been created, and sometimes processes won't stop.
However if I enter each command seperatly all works OK. Can anyone suggest a reason for this, maybe ordering is significant or a time delay may be required between certain actions?. Also after starting the website manager the process managers for both the infra and ias instances are started (I have installed both the iAS and the Infrastucture on the same machine - this all works fine when started as a series of individual commands but not when through batch files).
Also If I try to use:
SQLPLUS /NOLOG
SQL>CONNECT sys/password@iasdb as sysdba
SQL>Start
I also get an 'unable to create a dedicated server' error. I can start/stop the database through the enterprise manager in either standalone or management server configuration without any errors. Can anyone shed any light on this?. I have set both TNS_ADMIN and ORACLE_SID correctly.

Reports hung on 9ias Rel2 with MissingResourceException

We are getting reports hung on the reports server. In the trace file of the server we get this error. The report does not hang when run in report builder. It also only hangs every now and then not all the time.

Does anyone know what is causing this. In the report trace we get this error as well:

We have identified several different hangs in the reports server since going production. You can try our latest patch 9.0.2.0.5 to see if you can still reproduce the hang.

Does OSES work with Windows 2003 (EM64T) ?

as i know OSES is a 32-Bit application and only certified for MS WIndows 2003 (x86) 32-Bit.
But 32-Bit applications should also work in a 64-Bit OS. Are there any expierences with OSES working in a 64-Bit windows ? Will this be supported ?

Thanks! You saved me much grief and wasted time. I did not see any message in the eventlog and although I suspected the Virus checker I was nowhere near this solution. My application server (ATG 5.6.1p4) now runs on Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard Edition SP2 the same as on XP Pro. I added java, javac and jar in the dialog box.

Run multiple apps from one browser windows with 9ias r2

We are running 9ias r1 with forms 6i as our production server. Users are able to access one html page with multiple links to their applications. They can run one application, keep it running, navigate back to the html page and run a second application.
We are testing 9ias r2 with forms 9i, but when users try to navigate back to the html page to run the second application the first application closes.
Is there a way to have 9ias r2 work the same as r1 and allow users to run multiple application from one html page?

OSE/mod_ose config problems

After sifting through much contradictory documentation, I have been able to deploy JSPs and Servlets in the origin database and call them through its HTTP service. But I have not yet been able to call them through mod_ose on the 9iAS/Apache front-end.
I have 9iAS (Win2k) and an 8.1.7 db (NT4) running on seperate servers, with the latest versions of each app.
Here's what I did:
1. Built a simple Hello World JSP and Hello World Servlet.
2. Deployed according to instructions in MetaLink technote 126083.1 "How to set up OSE to Listen and Respond to HTTP requests"
3 Called them through the HTTP service at the origin db to test, this was OK.
4. Followed instructions to configure mod_ose in technote 126091.1 "How to setup mod_ose to dispatch requests to configured OSE service"
5. Restarted everything just in case
When I try to call the JSP or Servlet through the HTTP server on the 9iAS server, I get a 404 error or a service unavailable error. I have tried many different flavors of what I think is the correct URL format, with no luck.
Based on the above "success", I am assuming that OSE is working properly, but there is some breakdown in 9iAS talking to OSE, does anyone have any tips on this?
So far, this app server has been very frustrating. I am of course used to file-system based deployment through Tomcat, WebLogic, JRun, etc., so this database-deployment architecture is pretty weird. I also read in posts to this message board and others here that once I do get all this working, performance is poor and the deployment process will continue to be painful and convoluted.
Is this just an immature product that is not really ready? Or am I losing it?

Some things to check:
1. Your AuroraService directive in your mod_ose config file points to a valid tnsnames entry.
2. Your tnsnames entry that mod_ose is pointing to points to the listener for the database instance you want to end up in (i.e., where your OSE is running).
3. The service name on your tnsnames entry matches the service name on your mod_ose dispatchers.
4. The presentation in your tnsnames entry matches the presentation entry in your web service configuration in sess_sh.
5. Your web service has an OCI8 endpoint registered with the listener.
6. If you are not using the default listener port, your initZZZ.ora file defines the local listener name.
7. Your mod_ose configuration file has the necessary SetHandler and AddHandler directives

PDF Embed is not working with BRAZILIAN Charset

a strange thing is happening with my reports server 9i.
I have Oracle 9ias R2 with 9.0.2.3 patchset and Forms and Reports 9.0.2.3 patchset installed on Red Hat Linux.
I have a report that uses a post script barcode font, and i'm using the PDF Embed feature to incorporate this font in the reports.
The problem is that everything works fine when the NLS_LANG is defined to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1, the barcodes are showing correctly. But, when i set the NLS_LANG="BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL.WE8ISO8859P1" only a small initial part of the barcodes is showed on the screen.
I have to use this charset because my database is using it. With the AMERICAN charset the dates and other kind of stuff are showed in english.
Resuming, i need to use the PDF Embed font with the charset defined to BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL.WE8ISO8859P1.
Is this some kind of bug??
How can i solve this issue??
