9iAS v2: OC4J_portal versus Portal:portal:7777

After 9iAS installation. EM Website shows OC4J_portal is up running,
Portal:portal:7777 is down. After I clicked the Portal:portal:7777 link its
status changed to running.
1. What is the difference between OC4J_portal and Portal:portal:7777?
2. Do they need to be both started on mid-tier?
3. Which portal is the one corresponding to the 9iAS v1 Portal?
Thanks,
Lin

Ans 1:
OC4J_Portal and portal:portal:7777 are two targets.
(Components)
OC4J_Portal status is based on OC4J_Portal is Up.
portal:portal:7777 status is based on /pls/portal is
accessible.
OC4J_Portal takes you to the metrics specific to only OC4J_Portal
If you drill down to portal:portal:7777 > PPE .. Here you
will see a link to OC4J_Portal, clicking on which takes you to the OC4J_Portal page.
Ans 2:
**Portal:portal:7777 is down
I remember seeing a Bug (Not publised) for this. Can you tell your portal version?
Does it show as down the first time the page is accessed?
Does it shows as Up on Refreshing the Page?
Ans 3:
I did not get this question. What are you trying to ask?
Do you mean the Portal Version??

Chetan.

  • Resource List Filter versus Portal Drive

    Hi all,
i have created own resource list filter and i found out that the class receives wrong input data. The input list of resources doesn't contain resources created via Portal Drive. Has somebody same problem? Thanks in advance for whichever advice!
    Regards
    Zbynek

    Hi Zbynek,
That sounds a bit strange. The resources are listed within the portal anyhow, but they are not passed to the filter implementation? I've never experienced that and I also have difficulties to imagine such a scenario.
Anyhow, if it is true, you definitely should open an OSS message about it. But first, double-check your situation!
    Hope it helps

  • Portal Config on 9ias Rel 2 Help

We will probably be implementing 2 servers on Red Hat Advanced Server, one for the 9ias Infrastructure, one for Portal/Business Intelligence. My questions are these, which is better, installing portal in infrastructure or on separate database? If separate database, where should the database be installed, the infrastructure or Application Server host? Should J2EE/Web Cache be installed on the Infrastructure Host, or on the Application Server host optimally?
It seems like portal is installed automatically on the metadata repository on the infrastructure unless you specify otherwise. Is the metadata repository configured automatically by oracle? Is this wise, should the DBA set this with specific parameters? If so, is there a DBA guide for setting up info for this (optimal drive setup, configuration parameters, tablespaces)?
I've also noticed that you can use the metadata repository for actual storage of data. You can also store clickstream on this. Is this wise? Should it be stored on a separate database. We are looking to do Oracle Text with our policies and procedures manuals, over 300 documents, all stored in our database. Would storing this and other data be optimal in the metadata repository?
I've noticed in my searching on oracle documentation that more detailed info for DBAs (tablespaces, settings, etc) is supposed to be available on the Linux 9ias Application Server Administration Guide, but I cannot seem to locate this. Is there a url for this or any other detailed DBA information?
Thanks much in advance for any help/suggestions!

most, if not all that is available by digging around here:
    http://otn.oracle.com/index.html
look under product and/or technologies, then white papers, documentation, etc,

  • Problem with Application Server Portal 9.0.2.0.1.

I have a problem with Application Server Portal and Wireless 9.0.2.0.1.
Firstly I've installed the infrastructure on a Pentium 3 866Mhz 512Mb of Ram, with Windows 2000 Server (Italian) service pack 2.
I've maintained all predefined settings and I've chosen the UTF8 character set.
After installation, my infrastructure and OID works fine. The OID has port 4032 (as set by Oracle Universal Installer) instead of predefined 389.
After this I've installed Application Server Portal and Wireless on another host: a Pentium 3 733Mhz 384Mb of Ram, with Windows 2000 Server (Italian) service pack 2.
I've also maintained all predefined settings and automatic configuration of Portal and Wireless. I've pointed to my Infrastructure.
Try to test the Portal demonstration but an error occurred:
"SERVICE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."
On my EM Console I see: component instances 'OC4J_Portal' and 'OC4J_Demos' are UP, instead 'Portal:portal:7777' is down.
On the component lists I've clicked the link of component instance Portal:portal:7777, the 'control services' and 'Accessible Server SSO' are started, while 'Accessible Portal Repository' is down.
What can I do to get my portal started?

    hi,
i have exactly the same problem. did you solve yours?
any suggestions or help how to do it?

  • Portal status DOWN on EM but details show UP?

    Hi,
I just installed 9iAS v2 (9.0.2.0.1) and used all default configuration. Infrastructure and mid_tier are installed on seperate unix box. Right after the installation all components are show status UP except unified message (down) and discoverer (? mark).
After I made change to ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf/rwservelet.properties and rep_reports.conf files (following Note 210224.1) AND re started all on the mid_tier (follow note 200475.1), the status of portal:7777 on EM is DOWN, but the deails shows (click on the poratl link ) UP.
other info on this detailed page are:
    left side:
    monitoring down
database (on infrastructure) down (I can login scott/tiger@discodemo)
    on right side:
    mod_plsql_services down
    parallel_page_engine_services down
    syndication_server down
Does anybody knows what these means and how can I fix it ?
    Thanks

Happens all of the time. Bottom line is that the portal is up and running (assuming you can access it via /pls/portal). Oracle says this is due to underlying network issues, but I've seen this on every install I've done. I have noticed if you drill down further into the portal instance and then return to the main instance page, EM will show that it is up.
    Sure it is a bug...

  • Using additional jars in portal (jregex1.2_01.jar ) and use of javabeans

    Hi
I want to use code that parses regular expressions with java and to that end I would like to use jregex1.2_01.jar (if there is a native jar file in oracle that does the same, that woule be good, but I could not find anything that refers to regex or jregex).
I tried to put that new jar file in two locations in the portal area under WEB-INF\lib, namely in:
    C:\oracle\ora9ias\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\applications\portal\portal\WEB-INF\lib
where there are a lot of other jar files and also in:
    C:\oracle\ora9ias\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\applications\jpdk\jpdk\WEB-INF\lib
However, when I try to compile my code, it fails on the import line:
    import jregex.util.io.*;
    (the line itself is correct)
Obviously the jregex1.2_01.jar file is not in my classpath, but when oracle was installed, it did not create a CLASSPATH environment variable, so I would not like to make one that may exclude others oracle jars that then are not listed in CLASSPATH.
    I have two questions:
    1. How does import additional jars into Oracle, so that they can be used by java programs, and are there any inherent dangers in doing that?
    2. Where do I place my class file, if I want to use that class file as a javabean. The bean will be referred to by a jsp file which has been imported as a portlet. I assumed I would place my beans under
    C:\oracle\ora9ias\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\applications\jpdk\jpdk\WEB-INF\lib
as my jsp files are residing close to that, namely in:
    C:\oracle\ora9ias\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\applications\jpdk\jpdk\htdocs\myjsps
    but I am not sure.
Can anyone help me with setting up additional jars so they can be used by java files (to be used as javabeans) and with the location and use of javabeans in Oracle Portal?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much
    Hugo

    Hi Hugo,
When developing server-side applications, forget about the CLASSPATH environment variable. You must instead become familiar with how the server's classloading scheme operates.
From your post, it looks as though you already are familiar to some degree, because you have correctly identified one of the places to put extra jar files, namely WEB-INF/lib.
At first glance, I would have expected your import to work with the jar file located in WEB-INF/lib - have you made sure you bounced the server?
Also, make sure that any dependencies of jregex are also included in WEB-INF/lib.
Another thing to try is add an entry into ${OH}/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/config/application.xml which explicitly references the jregex jar file.

  • Update Portal with new Web Cache location

    Hi!
We are trying to move our front-end WebCache to a new server. The Web Cache seems to work allright, but I can't get Portal to access the Web Cache.
After moving the Web Cache I've updated the Portal Web Cache Settings in IAS console's portal:portal instance. OC4J_Portal and portal:portal are running and are not showing any errors in IAS console. When I try to access Web Cache through Portal administrative page i get an error saying WWC-40019 "Could not open web cache connection". The URL Portal uses to access Web Cache admin page i.e. is wrong.
I need some help finding the appropriate way to configure Portal with the new Web cache addresses.
    Thank you!
    Best regards
    "Heyers"

Portal PM, I thought you said that this solution would not work. Everyone I have heard so far has said that you cannot configure webcache to work with Portal documents. Does this work or does it not?
Read the messages below from the bottom up.
It's not possible to do that today.
In 9.0.2 (the next release) we will be using WebCache configured out of the box so you won;t need to, however, till then you cannot use webcache with Portal 3.0.x
    Thanks

    Port <webcache port>
    Listen <apache listen port>
    ServerName <webcache hostname>
you must running ssodatan script again.
    Note :
this config only make portal work together with webcache.

  • Production Portal hangs with timeouts

    Hi all,
Several times during the day the Portal 10.1.4.0.0 hangs with timeouts.
In order to recover, Portal needs to be re-started.
(The timeout also occurred during the time they had a db corruption, but now that corruption has been resolved, the hangs still occur.
After running the SVU in CLEANUP mode, the issue still occurs.
Timeout has been set to well over the default. Stall has been increased also. Neither have helped to resolve the issue.
The java portlets are from a specific OC4J Provider, and all of them are on pages under a Page Group.
These portlets reads (also trough views) data on portal schema in order to create the "style" and css of the portal pages. All of the database statements are select, exception of rare insert operation on a table of their custom schema.
    User load:
The access statistics indicates that about 800 users access this site in 1 hour.
The more high user access in one hour was 1100 users.
The concurrent user access are about 500.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Helenna,
In this particular case, the PPE timeout settings are set to very high values causing exhaustion of fetcher threads in the PPE fetcher thread pool :
    <servlet>
       <servlet-name>page</servlet-name>
       <servlet-class>oracle.webdb.page.ParallelServlet</servlet-class>
       <init-param>
    <param-name>requesttime</param-name>
    <param-value>120</param-value>
       </init-param>
       <init-param>
           <param-name>minTimeout</param-name>
           <param-value>180</param-value>
       </init-param>
       <init-param>
           <param-name>stall</param-name>
           <param-value>200</param-value>
</init-param> This should be the action plan for you :
    >
As you already pointed out, the portal seems to become unresponsive because the Edison provider is not responding fast enough to requests from the Portal framework. Oracle Portal should be able to recover from thi in normal cases. Unfortunately the configuration settings in the Portal were changed from the default values making it almost impossible for the framework to recover from the error. To understand this, we will need to go through the theory :
The Oracle Portal framework collects information from various sources and assembles these to web pages which are then sent to the end users internet browser. Providers are one source of information. To retrieve the information from providers, Oracle Portal allocates a so-called fetcher thread in OC4J_Portal. This fetcher thread will create a session with the (remote) provider and fetch the content, similar to how a web browser would contact a web server to retrieve an HTML page. It is important to note that Oracle Portal allocates a fetcher thread for each portlet on a page. For a page with five portlets, five fetcher threads are allocated as the content is fetched in parallel.
In a default configuration with only one OC4J_Portal process, the number of fetcher threads is limited to 25. With five portlets on a page, the Portal will be able to serve up to five requests simultaneously before the pool of fetcher threads gets exhausted. This is normally not a problem because the fetcher threads are allocated for just a few seconds normally. Once they have received the response from the provider, they are returned to the pool and will be available to the Portal again.
The problems start when the provider's response becomes sluggish. The fetcher thread is not returned to the pool immediately. The requests start to queue up until the system doesn't have any fetcher threads available anymore. Once there are no fetcher threads available, the Portal will wait for a new fetcher thread for a certain period of time (as specified by the queueTimeout). After expiration of this queue timeout, the Portal will return an error to the Oracle HTTP Server. This is when end users will start to experience errors in the pages.
To keep the Portal alive and healthy, administrators should take care that the fetcher threads pool doesn't get exhausted. Obviously the best way to do this is to ensure that all providers respond in a reasonable amount of time. If there is no control on the response times of the providers, administrators can use the timeouts in the framework to assure that long running requests are killed off by the framework to assure that the fetcher threads are returned to the pool again. These parameters are configured in the web.xml from the application portal in the OC4J container called OC4J_Portal. Obviously users will see timeout errors for particular portlets on certain pages but the overall framework will be available. In addition, administrators can decide to increase the number of fetcher threads by starting more than one OC4J_Portal process. Each additional process will increase the amount of fetcher threads with 25. There is a memory penalty for this however as each process can consume between 256 - 512 Mb of memory. Administrators should only increase the amount of processes when they have checked that the Portal midtier system has enough free memory available to accommodate for these additional processes.
    Action plan :
    1. Change the timeout values for the Portal framework to the default values :
    a. Navigate to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/applications/portal/portal/WEB-INF
    b. Copy the web.xml :
    % cp web.xml web.xml_23MAR2010
    c. Edit the web.xml :
For both the RepositoryServlet and the PortalServlet, remove the STALL timeout
For the page servlet, remove the requesttime, minTimeout, stall and queueTimeout parameters
    2. Increase the number of OC4J_Portal processes from 1 to 4 :
    a. Create a copy of the file $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml :
    % cp opmn.xml opmn.xml_23MAR2010
    b. Open the file opmn.xml
    c. Locate the following section :
    <process-type id="OC4J_Portal" module-id="OC4J">
    d. Within the section for the process OC4J_Portal, change the following line :
    <process-set id="default_island" numprocs="1"/>
    to
    <process-set id="default_island" numprocs="4"/>
    3. Synchronize the DCM repository :
    % $ORACLE_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig
    4. Restart the midtier processes
    % $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl stopall
    % $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
    4. Check whether the changes have are in effect :
    a. Number of OC4J_Portal processes :
Run opmnctl status and count the number of OC4J_Portal processes. You should see four of them.
    b. Timeout parameters in OC4J_Portal
Open the file $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/application-deployments/portal/OC4J_Portal_default_island_1/application.log and check for the following line at the end of the file :
    10/03/08 06:32:32 portal: PPE version : 10.1.2.0.2 (29022008)
    10/03/08 06:32:32 portal: Tuning parameter values : poolSize(Fetchers)=25[default=25] : minTimeout(MinTimeout)=5s[default=5s] : requesttime(DefaultTimeout)=15s[default=15s] : stall(MaxTimeout)=65s[default=65s] :
    queueTimeout(QueueTimeout)=10s[default=10s] maxParallelPortlets=20[default=20] maxParallelPagePortlets=10[default=10]

  • Securing Portal with SSL/https

Has anyone successfully setup oracle portal 9.0.2 on solaris running all over secure sockets for both login/server and portal ?
I've followed the otn documentation but i'm still having problems with gettin portal to work with https.
It's driving me insane!! please help with any suggestions.
    Kind Regards
    Neil

    Hi,
We did the following steps and it working :)
Assuming that HTTPS is correctly working and without security aspects.
Assuming that the HTTPS is 443
    1) configure Webcache to work on port 443 and link it to the 4444 port of Apache
    1) configure SSO
I directly change in WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$ LS_LOGIN_URL to the https URL
the LSNR_TOKEN has to be like 'myhost' and not 'myhost:port'
    2) Login to SSO and update the HOME, SUCCESS and CANCEL URL of SSO
    to https
    3) register mod_osso against the new SSO Server
    4) register the portal using ptlasst
(if possible remove the already installed portal)
beware You might have big trouble with groups you have created.
    5) Add in ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\applications\portal\WEB-INF\web.xml
    <init-param>
    <param-name>httpsports<param-name>
    <param-value>443:4444</param-value>
    </init-param>
    That is it !!!!
You have also to protect some URL with SSL and
    to redefine some virtual path
The best test is to stop WebCache to liste http port

The problem seems to be in portal.
All pages are redirected to the original but if I take the URL and modify the site name it works fine.

  • Production of Portal

    Hi everyone!
I'm kind of new in this area and so I feel a bit confused about what I actually need to get Oracle Portal in production.
What I'd like to know is: do I need to buy Oracle 9iAS to get Oracle Portal production release?
Also: can I build my portals using this release or do I need to purchase Internet Developer Suite?
Please answer me as soon as you can... I'm really in a rush!! :-)
Thank you very much for your help!
    Cheers!

Hi, I'm a user of Oracle Portal, yes, you need the 9iAS for to get Oracle Portal Production.
You don't whole Internet Developer Suite for to build a Web Site, it is enough with Portal, It means, you can survive. However, if you want to add more powerful content (example: applets), then you'll need the Developer Suite.

  • Why 9ias WIRELESS seems to be a PANDORA BOX ??

    hi:
In release notes of my 9ias downloaded documents it says that i have 9ias 1.0.2.2.2
I've installed Enterprise Edition but i've choose just to configure after instalation forms and reports services.
What the hell i need to put 9ias Wireless working ?
I've follow the docs that say that i would have to configure jserv.conf, httpd.conf, jserv.properties, zones.properties, etc! I've configured them well. But i dont have the WIRELESS SCHEMA created on the database. My database is Oracle 9i and OS os Win2k Server.
How can I invoke the Wizard or run the scripts for my Wireless Schema?
I also denoted that technet as a new version called 1.0.2.2.2a (look there's a letter in the end... may be it means that was built in the (a)FTERNOON and the 1.0.2.2.2 in the morning...)
I would like to know WHAT DO I REALLY NEED to put 9ias WE working (acka:portal-to-go ... may be should be called portal-to-leave)
    I'm desperatelly needding help!
By the way, the thing that i hate most in Oracle is the null documentation! sorry Oracle guys... it's true. jdev, 9ias, etc lacks of docs in some important areas!
    Thankx in advance.
