9iAS with 10gAS

Greetings.
I have two AS questions concerning the same situation. We are installing 9iAS (1.0.2.2.2) to use with Oracle Applications 11i. Late in the planning stage, some of our business clients were told about the Discoverer features that come with the 10g Discoverer/AS.
Here are the questions:
1) Is it possible to have both the 9iAS and 10gAS running in parallel (different servers) against the same 9.5.7 database?
2) More importantly, if it is possible, is it supported by Oracle? If it is supported, is that written down somewhere?
Thanks,
David

Whoops... went a little dyslexic there. It is actually database version 9.2.0.3. blush
I looked on metalink but didn't see this subject addressed specifically. I know that the DBA is going to ask the $64k question: If we call support with a problem, will they hang up when we tell them our architecture?

  • Upgrade 9iAs to 10gAS

    Helo All,
I have a query hope to get solved over here
I have installed 9iAS (9.0.2) and 9iDB on a single machine on win2k platform. Now I would like to upgrade my 9iAS to 10g since im getting some problems and prevailing bugs in 9iAS.
    My Question here is
    1. Do I need to reformat the whole thing I mean take db back up and application back up and reformat the whole hard disk and install fresh 10g the the database.
    2. Or can i keep the existing database intact as it is and go for an upgrade with the 10g on the existing 9iAS.
    3. If i can upgrade on the existing 9iAS to 10 how can I do that. Just put the CD and run the 10g Installation?
Can anyone help me out for a safe upgrade from 9iAs to 10gAs
    Thanks & Regards

Portal is just a component of AS. You would upgrade to 10gAS R2. The link I provided shows the version paths you could take based on your original version.
At any rate, see the 10.1.2.0.2 upgrade guide:

  • 9iAS with JDeveloper

Hi, i am new to Oracle9iAS
I would like to ask if there is any configuration guide for 9iAS online and how to use 9iAS with JDeveloper to deploy EJB.

best start is to use OTN (Oracle Technology Network at http://otn.oracle.com ). There you find a menu item called "documentation". if you follow the links, you will find all information you'll need. for 9iAS as an example you could try http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/90200doc_otn/core.htm , for 9ijdeveloper you could try the online help at http://otn.oracle.com/jdeveloper-preview/help/

  • Forms9i with 10gAS

    HI Gentlemen,
I have a 9i DB, 9iDS and 10gASFrs installed on an XP machine. As stated in the 10gAS doc, I created a simple config section [myconfig] with only form=myform and userid=usr/pwd@dblink in FORMSWEB.CFG, added my path to FORMS90_PATH in DEFAULT.ENV and did nothing more.
Now, when I start OC4J Instance from 9iDS and issue the URL:
    http://mypc:7777/forms90/f90servlet?config=myconfig
then I get "The page cannot be displayed".
When I issue the following URL:
http://mypc:8888/forms90/f90servlet?config=myconfig then the Applet starts and so does 9i FOrms Services, but it stops with FRM-92160 Version of Web Client too old.
The message is not to be found anywhere.
Confusingly, I have another computer where it goes! And I can not see any difference in any settings.
Can you help me, where I am wrong?
Thanking in advance, kind regards from
    Miklos HERBOLY

    Hi,
the Forms Services version in 10g AS is newer than the version In Oracle9iDS, which is why you get the error message. Try and clean the Oracle jar cache before re-running the application in Oracle 9iDS. Best is to upgrade your IDS to 10g as well.
The "The page cannot be displayed" message doesn't point to a Forms problem but maybe calling teh wrong port. Did you try port 80 or 7779 ?

  • 9iAS with many OC4J Containers

    Hello,
I am having a problem with a 9iAS farm. We've got an infrastructure (9.0.2 patched to 9.0.3) and on the Application Server we try to use more than 10 OC4J containers.
After trying to start the 10-th container, there is a timeout error:
    dcmctl start -co OC4J_TMS1 -v
    ADMN-906025
The exception, 806209, occurred at Oracle9iAS instance "servername.domainname.nl"
"The send operation timeout has expired and reached the specified timeout value
Inspect timeout value in the debug log, increase timeout or check opmn connection".
Resolve the indicated problem at the Oracle9iAS instance where it occurred then resync the instance.
This means that the Application Server AND the Infrastructure Server are unreachable.
I have to stop all the processes (opmnctl stopall) and start the first nine with the dcmctl tool. If I stop the processes on the Application Server, than the Infrastructure becomes available.
But everytime I try to start the 10-th .. it fails. I have tried to put a max memory java option into the OC4J-container but it didn't help.
We've got this problem on a machine with 768MB internal memory and one with 512 MB memory.
I tried to minimize the max memory with this option:
    <java-option value="-Xmx24M" />
    Anyone an idea?

  • Postinstall for 9iAS with 8i on same machine

    hello,
I have just completed install of 9iAS 1.0.2.0.1
with the origin 8i 8.1.7 db on the same Solaris 8 machine.
I am currently trying to do post-install and I'm having
some trouble resolving conflicts in env variables.
Ex: 9iAS post-install says to set ORACLE_HOME to home
directory where 9iAS was installed; but ORACLE_HOME
has previously been set to the 8i home.
How do I resolve this in order to appropriately set the
    env variables for 9iAS?
    Thanks,
    Lauren.

What you can do is run different shell scripts to set the ENV as
    required.
Since 817 and iAS are in different homes that should not be a
    problem

  • 9iAS and 10gAS changes in "jndi-env.properties"

I am refering to the file jndi-env.properties in .ear file of a j2ee application.
If we want to deploy the application on Oracle 9iAS, we have to specify the IP and the Application name in provider URL:
    java.naming.provider.url=ormi://localhost/APP
But in 10g, this seems to have changed. We have to include the port with IP:
    java.naming.provider.url=ormi://localhost:12409/APP
Is there a work around if we want to omit the port from this parameter?
    Thanks a lot :)

Found the correct way to write the URL
    java.naming.provider.url=opmn:ormi://<host>:<request-port>:<oc4j-instance>/<application>

  • 9iAS with NT4 and SP5

    Hello.
I have read somewhere on OTN that it might be possible that database chache configuration assistant failt to update the userlist at the end of the datatbase chache installation process, because Java engine can't execute the last step when SP 5 is installed. It further says that it might be fixed with SP6 or above.
I wanna try that and like to know if I can install SP6 on a PC where 9iAS is installed ?
    Thx in advance
    null

    I had the same problem
    Try the following technique:
    1) Try to address the server by its IP address
    2) You have to include Environement Variable Oracle_home pointing to Application Server Home
    e.g ORACLE_HOME=C:\ORACLE\ISUITES
    3) Environement Variables in W2000 are added from Control Panel/System/Advanced
    Wish that will help

  • OCS infra with 10gAS mid-tier

    Hi All,
I have installed OCS 9.0.4.1 and am going to install Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2.0.0). Can I use the OCS infra for the AS?
Kindly send a copy of the reply to [email protected]

I'd say double-check or triple-check your specific installation (including goal) with Oracle first.

  • 9iAS with 8i

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate an application being run on OAS 4.0 & Oracle 8i using PL/SQL cartridge to 9iAS. When I try executing the packages created using Oracle Designer 6.0 in 9i, the output is not same as in 8i. The fields generated thru the WSGL packages are now displayed at all in 9i.
And when I try to execute the packages in 8i using 9iAS, I get the following error:

  • Need help with 10gAS infrastructure install on RH linux

Attempting to install a 10g Infrastructure (10.1.2.0.4) on an RedHat ES 4.0, update 2 Server (Brand new clean install of OS followed by install of Infrastructure.) System is a AMD64 3000+ with 2GB memory (we will be loading the AS on this same server, so we went with extra memory.)
Following the Installation guide to the letter (even caught and corrected the incorrect SHMMAX parameter value in the QIG)… All of the pre install steps completed. This is the production version of the Oracle applications server, so I would assume that if a number of people were having a problem, I would see something in either OTN or Metalink and I don’t see it in either…
The only difference I can see is that I am using Update 2 vice Update 1 (the certified version)… I can try going back but V1 but would that make that much difference?
I see several others have done this without a problem so I home they can help… Ideas from anyone?
    Thanks.

<Note: Cross posted on Identity Management forum (as it's an SSO error)>

    Hi Michael!
The problems I had with SSO were way different than your problems. What came to my mind is to check the network settings of the machine. What I usually do is to set the hostname and the domain in the /etc/sysctl.conf .I have a ES40u2 were I had no problems whatsoever.

  • Multiple JDK versions with 10gAS

    Hi,
I deploy multiple applications on different containers on the same instance of 10gAS. Couple of applications use different versions of JDK (1.3 and 1.4).How can I make 10gAS Containers, use different versions of JDK ?
How can I make 10gAS it self, use a particular JDK (external to 10gAS installation) from a different vendor?
Please let me know the answer for the above two questions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Giri.

Eric has a good idea. I'll add another.
You could create a symbolic link to the new java version also, and use this to point to your JAVA_HOME for devadm.
We have a Solaris admin who installs all java versions on the box, then uses symbolic links (aka aliases) for mapping purposes such as this.
    Hope this helps,
