9iASr2 Infrastructure Install makefile fail - clntsh

I ran up against a makefile error when installing 9iASr2 Infrastructure on a AMD box running SuSE 8.0.
When linking the database, I got as error like "couldn't make target ...", in my case ld coundn't find "clntsh".
I found the solution thanks to Thiago Massariolli Sigrist in message 997821. So apparently did several other people.
Thanks Thiago....

Solved. Thanks to....

  • 9iasr2 infrastructure install - host name can not start with a digit?

    Hi,
During the installation of the infrastructure the installer builds the database domain by using the host name. If the host name starts with the digit as in our case the installer fails with a blessing 'Database domain name should start with a letter'. How can we workaround the problem?
    Thank you.

    Chris,
Thank you for your reply. I looked at this thread before I posted my question, but I could not find an answer to what is wrong with this line in the hosts file:
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com 7xpsm01
    or
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com
If you know what the problem was in your case could you please let me know? Appreciate your time.
    Thank you.

    Hi Ponygirl,
I think this is an update failure that typically happens because your current installation is damaged or incomplete.

  • Infrastructure Install

After installing Oracle Infrastructure 9.0.2 (Release 2) on Solaris 8, I get the message that the install and linking was successful. However, when the install proceeds to automatically run the configuration assistants about 8 of the processes fail. For the Oracle Net Configuration and Database Configuration Assistant I get messages such as, can't find file "/lib.../libjava.so" and "could not locate java runtime."
I've noticed that the emca and dbca scripts try to use JRE (v1.1.8). When I try running the jre under ORACLE_HOME/JRE/bin I get a message, "could not locate java runtime."
Am I missing an environment setting needed during the install (or later) that is causing these problems? I'm guessing that the 8 automatic starting of processes that fail after the Infrastructure install is related to a Java path issue?
I do have the environment settings set that are described in the Install doc and I did modify the kernel parameters. I believe I've setup everything properly before the install based on the install doc.
    Any ideas?
    -Brian

After looking on Metalink I found the problem and resolution. Doc ID: 212401.1 on Metalink.
The oracle account used to install the Infrastructure needs read AND write access to the parent directory of the directory specified for oraInventory (or equivalent). The installer needs to create two other directories at the same directory level as oraInventory.
After deinstalling, modifying permissions and reisntalling 9.0.2.0.1 Infrastructure, the java and jre problems went away.

The trouble is that in the OSD, SCCM is not smart enough to detect and run the dependent program, even though all of the data is available and in the database for it to build this information on it's own.
This is a HUGE downfall of the OSD and requires one of a few workarounds.
You can either ensure that the package is installed prior to that one by manually install the dependant application or use the MDT databse add the correct fields.
Another pain in the arse is when you have a package that has a custom action which REQUIRES it to be run on the local drive and not from a network drive which is an even worse beast.
    Brad
As a side note to any Microsoft staff out there looking at this, is this ever going to be an option/fix in future releases? You can script it a whole infrastructure to just do this option since everything is already there but it's much less fun that just pointing and clicking, not to mention you have less logging and error control and it's a pain.
If you are taking any suggestions for additional features or functionality I'd add this one and an update to how the driver library functions.
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Install Failed:  The following install step failed: run preflight script

I'm trying to reinstall Photoshop CS2 on an intel iMac, OS 10.5.5. I ran the install program, after a few seconds I get the following error message:

"Install Failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Adobe Photoshop CS2. Contact the software manufacturer
for assistance." (I did contact adobe, but they no longer support CS2) Originally, I had installed PS CS2 when I was using OS 10.4.X, then I upgraded to 10.5.x. PS CS2 was working fine on my system. Then I accidentally deleted the program, now I'm having trouble reinstalling. I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

I encountered the exact same problem - I had upgraded to CS2 from a previous version of Photoshop, back
when I was using OSX 10.3.9. Later, I upgraded my OS from 10.3.9, to Leopard (10.5.8.)
CS2 always ran flawlessly, through all those systems.
Then I had occasion to reformat my HD and reinstall Leopard 10.5.8.
That's when the CS2 installer failed, with the same message mentioned above.
When I called in, they basically said, buzz off....we won't help you.
First, this shows that their software is flawed.
They managed to allow this problem to occur due to inept programming.
Now they are either incapable, or unwilling, to write a programming fix for this problem.
It reeks olf ineptitude, plus colossal, inexcusable arrogance and disrespect for their customer base.
Just my humble opinion of course...and I've been a Photoshop user since 1990.
