9iasR2:InfraStructure:Meta Repository

I've tried to install 9iasR2 Infrastruture on a SUN Ultra-5 Solaris 8 workstation, however I faced a problem during the installation of Meta Repository, the process at "Creating and Starting Oracle Instance" that take a huge time and the state of 44% of the total process! It take more than an hour and still not yet finished the process. Anybody got any idea? or I need to get it install on a Sun Enterprise server?
thanks,
khchan

Hi,
Thanks for reply, here are my hardware spec, as you can see from the top utility, I have 4G of swap space and no other heavy proccess running on the machine, just the DBCA, and can notice that there is an instance PID=20386 running almost for 9 hrs. I believe that it is the oracle database server instance.

  • OID meta repository

    Oracle Guru's,
    I am new to this subject and I need your help as my manager is expecting lot of things. Well Let me tell you my configuration first, I have Oracle 10gR2(10.2.0.3) RAC on sun solaris 10. I need to install OID for which I have to create meta repository . I have two questions ?
    1. OAS creates 15 schemas, Do I need all of them for OID or I can install the required one?
    2. Shall I create the meta repository in application database itself or create a separate instance on RAC sharing with existing application database instance. What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing that in terms of performance or other ?
    Your help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    I'm by no means a guru (I've been working with OID for less than a year). As far as I know you should only need the Identity Management Schemas (ODS, OCA, ORASSO, ORASSO_DS, ORASSO_PA, ORASSO_PS, ORASSO_PUBLIC). These are the schemas that support Oracle Single Sign-on and Oracle Internet Directory. The other schemas (like the product metadata ones) are for other applications such as Portal.
    I am even less experienced with the architecture side of things, but my understanding is that you will achieve greater performance by running a multi-tiered installation (Application and MetaData repository on separate servers).
    Hope this helps some.

  • 9iasr2 infrastructure install - host name can not start with a digit?

    Hi,
    During the installation of the infrastructure the installer builds the database domain by using the host name. If the host name starts with the digit as in our case the installer fails with a blessing 'Database domain name should start with a letter'. How can we workaround the problem?
    Thank you.
    Anatoliy Smirnov

    Chris,
    Thank you for your reply. I looked at this thread before I posted my question, but I could not find an answer to what is wrong with this line in the hosts file:
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com 7xpsm01
    or
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com
    If you know what the problem was in your case could you please let me know? Appreciate your time.
    Thank you.

  • After infrastructure restart, we must do the same (restart) with middle tie

    After infrastructure restart, we must do the same (restart) with middle tier?
    We have 2 nodes, one with infrastructure and the other with the middle tier (bi and forms).
    After a failure in the node that contain the infrastructure and restart it, we need to restart the middle tier in the other node, or the middle tier instance follow alive and continue work ok after infrastructure is up and runing?
    Tx four your help!
    Diego.

    The correct start'n'stop orders are:
    Start
    Start Infrastructure
    Start Mid-Tier(s)
    Stop
    Stop Mid-Tier(s)
    Stop Infrastructure
    The Mid-Tier depends on the infrastructure (sso, repository database etc) and must always be stopped before stoppen the infrastructure.
    The Application Server is a complex product, just like the database, so please do not skip reading basic notes and documents. If you're a administrator please consider takeing the five days training. The information above could be found in Application Server Install Guide, Administrators Guide etc.

  • Services Registry in PI 7.1 - What is this and where is it used?

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me what is Services Registry in PI 7.1 ? What featuers are available in it and where is it used or how its helpful?
    I dont have access to it in my system, so am curious to know the contents of it!!
    Do we define global data types by any chance in the Services Registry ?
    Cheers,
    S

    Hi,
    What is Service Registry?
    Definition: Service Registry is a registry for Webservices that is located centrally within an SOA landscape.  In simple words u201Cwhere are our services implemented?u201D can be identified by using Service Registry.
    PI 7.1 contains a UDDI v.3 compliant Service Registry contains information about services provided in that landscape with references to the WSDL metadata relevant for those services and to the locations of the callable service endpoints.
    How the Service Registry used in PI?
    1.     As a Webservice provider we can publish Webservice.
    2.     As a Webservice consumer we can search for and find Webservices for consumption.
    3.     We can test our Webservices.
    4.     Manage third party Webservices and classify them to provide them for consumption in our system landscape.
    5.     Providing Deployment information (i.e End point information).
    Enterprise Services Repository (ESR):
    To support strategic service oriented approach SAP provides a new Enterprise Service Repository. ESR is a central repository of information that contains all the services. ESR is a container, stores all the underlying Meta data of application objects like service interfaces and descriptions. The global data types, interfaces and business processes maintained in Enterprise service repository which can be reuse where needed. The first implementation of ESR and its associated editors come in SAP Netweaver04u2019s, which has been evolved from NetWeaver Exchange Infrastructure Integration Repository. Enterprise service repository is a design time repository of service objects for ESA. You can model all service design objects for a process and can reuse the data types and service objects which are already maintained. All enterprise services are published in a central Enterprise service repository so they can be used by anybody who really needs that service includes customers and partners.
    The Enterprise Service Repository is the evolution of what it was known as the Integration Repository in XI.  Now the Integration Repository is called the ESR and XI is called PI.  Using the Integration Repository as foundation for the ESR made a lot of sense since many of the capabilities were already there: metadata storage, defining message types, data types, operations, etc.
         ESR is just like Integration Repository for XI.  Here you can design/define your Service Interfaces and Enterprise Services.
         ESR is the central repository in which Service Interfaces and Enterprise Services are modeled centrally and their metadata is stored.
         In simple words u201CWhat does the service do and what does it need?u201D can be answered from ESR.
         ESR is used for: -
    1.     Definition of Processes and Services
    2.     Store Service Metadata
    3.     Central Modeling and Design Environment.
    Global Data Types
         Definition: Global Data Types are company-wide, defined data types based on international standards.  They are based on the SAP methodology and are defined in a standards-based way in the ESR.
         They are based on the ISO 15000-5 and UN/CEFACT CCTS standards and act as the semantic building blocks for service interfaces.
         Global Data Types help you in standardizing service definitions across your organization and provide the key building blocks that can be reused across all your service definitions.
         Global Data Types have been approved SAP-wide by the Governance Process for Business Content.
         Global Data Types have been defined in the ESR and are described by XML schema.

  • Multiple instances of 9iAS in a single server

    Hi,
    Is it possible to have multiple instances of the 9iAS in the same machine.
    I have managed to install two different instances of the infrastructure on the same machine with different homes. But while trying to install the second instance of the portal and wireless the installer selects the earlier instance of the infrastrucure (SSO and Meta repository). Is there anyway around this?
    Thanks
    Vinodh R.

    I installed infrastructure in one machine and trying to install ias in other machine using infra on the first one. but iam getting one typical error again and again.
    i.e when during the installation of ias we have enter the values of existing sso and ias-admin pwd...i entered the infra sso host name and also ias admin pwd. but it says..
    'return value from sso running function is INVALID'. I want to install ias on second machine so that resources are not wasted on the first host. also i am getting wwc-41490 error when trying to login the sso page of infrastructure host. why is this. Kindly help me as portal config is very imp for me.

  • Mid tier removal

    I want to remove my mid tier install of Portal, BI & Forms, Reports.
    It has been registered in a FARM on the sepearate Infrastructure sever Meta Repository.
    Do I have to deregister it from the FARM before I use Oracle Installer to remove the software?
    Im worried there will be some gotcha's if I just go ahead and remove the Portal & BI Forms Reports using the Oracle Installer.

    Its version 9.0.4.0 on Solaris 10

  • Restore Portal Builder Region

    We accidentally deleted the default layout after login that has the tabs (ie. Welcome, Builder, Administer , and Portal Developer etc...) Unfortunately we don't have backups because it's just a test machine.
    Is there anyway to restore the builder region or the default layout without reinstalling the business infrastructure part of the application server (Not meta repository?)
    I believe that redeploy-ing the portal.jar application located on our Business Infrastructure should do the trick , but not sure. Could someone please confirm????
    Thanks in advance.

    hi antony,
    i am not aware of an easy way. i did some research and it seems as if there is a script called pobdata.sql that is called during an upgrade. this script re-created the portal design time pages as far as i understood. you could check the upgrade scripts from 9.0.4 to 10.1.2 and see if this script is included and can help you.

    hope this hint helps.

    There is known bug in installing Oracle10gAS infra. You have to apply the following note during the installation.

    Guide to Implement local printing on client in 10gas/9ias
    To archive this goal we have used orarrp(Oracle Reports Remote Printing Utility), which can be downloaded from the OTN website http://otn.oracle.com/sample/products/reports/index.html.
    Steps:
    1.Add the required ORARRP mime types to the Oracle HTTP Server configuration.
    (Note: This will be the Oracle HTTP Server belonging to the Oracle Application Server 10g/9ias middle (BI & Forms) tier)
    Do this manually by editing the httpd.conf
    or
    via the Oracle Application Server 10g AS Console e.g.
    Navigate to the Middle Tier Components Page
    Click on HTTP_Server -> Administration -> MIME Types
    NOTE: MIME types added in httpd.conf are as per requirement mode in which report has to be run e.g. pdf, rt(rtf) and html etc. syntax for manual entry in httpd.conf is given below.
    AddType application/x-orarrp-text     rrpt
    AddType application/x-orarrp-ps     rrpp
    AddType application/x-orarrp-pdf     rrpa
    AddType application/x-orarrp-rt     rrpr
    AddType application/x-orarrp-ini     rrpi
    AddType application/x-orarrp-html     rrph
    2. Create an aliasmatch in forms.conf pointing to a physical directory \tmp- for example, directory will be c:\tmp
    Do this by manually editing the forms.conf
    or
    via the Oracle Application Server 10g AS Console e.g.
    Navigate to the Middle Tier Components Page
    Click on HTTP_Server -> Administration -> Advanced Server Properties -> forms.conf
    Add a line like :
    # Virtual path for physical directory of temp
    AliasMatch ^/tmp/(..*) "C:\tmp/$1"
    ** IMPORTANT NOTE **
    The advantages of making the changes via EM / AS console, rather than editing the files manually, are:
    - the EM / AS console will put the mime type entries in the correct place
    - the EM / AS console automatically issues a 'dcmctl updateconfig' which synchronizes the file changes with the Infrastructure Metadata Repository
    - the EM / AS console will do the required restart of the HTTP Server component
    (Only the HTTP Server needs to be stopped and restarted – Oracle AS 10g components can remain up and running)
    If the changes are made manually then the following commands must be issued after the changes to httpd.conf and forms.conf have been made.
    Run these command at run prompt
    DRIVE:\oracle\FRHome_1\dcm\bin\dcmctl.bat updateconfig -ct ohs -v -d
    (to synchronize the changes with the Metadata Repository)
    DRIVE:\oracle\FRHome_1\dcm\bin\dcmctl.bat stop -ct ohs -v -d
    DRIVE:\oracle\FRHome_1\dcm\bin\dcmctl.bat start -ct ohs -v -d
    where DRIVE: is the drive where \oracle\frhome_1\ is installed.
    3. Copy and run orarrp.exe on client machine in program files\orarrp\ folder.
    4. Set value of options '”choose_printer=no” in orarrp.ini created at above folder.
    5. Add following lines in your code of run_report procedure.
    In declare section
    vc_file varchar2(225);
    In begin block add
    /* Generate a pseudo unique filename */
    vcfile:=:global.user_code||to_char(sysdate,'YYYYMMDDHHMISS');
    vcfile:=vcfile||'.rrpr';
    /* In this example - output will be rtf so adding .rrpr extension */
    set_report_object_property(repid, report_filename,store_var);
    set_report_object_property(repid, report_server, :global.r_server);
    set_report_object_property(repid, report_execution_mode, batch);
    set_report_object_property(repid, report_comm_mode, SYNCHRONOUS);
    set_report_object_property(repid, report_destype, file);
    set_report_object_property(repid, report_desformat,'rtf');
    set_report_object_property(repid,REPORT_DESNAME,'C:\tmp\'||vcFile);
    ---- path can be made dynamic by making a database entry in makess.path_entry for tmp folder and
    ---using proc_path procedure from path lib.
    :GLOBAL.PrintOutPut := vcFile;
    In Run report section make following change:
         vc_reportserverjob := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid,pi_id);
         report_job_id:=substr(vc_reportserverjob,length(:global.r_server+2,length(vc_reportserverjob));
         v_rep_status:=report_object_status(vc_reportserverjob);
         if v_rep_status='FINISHED' then
              web.show_document('/tmp/'||:global.printoutput,'_blank');
         else
              message ('error when running report'||v_rep_status);
    end if;

    Hi,
    Thanks for responding . I am sending the file contents of ejb-jar.xml, orion-ejb-jar.xml, jms.xml.
    Could you also check whether dtds versions of 10g and 9i in these xmls are conflicting? If you can specify your email-id i can send these file as attachments.

  • How to test XI project..

    1.How to test xi projects?
    2.then how to test our scenario? Is there any testing tool is available to test the scenario?
    3. What is CCMS? how it is useful in XI ?
    Thanks in advance
    Rakesh

    Hi Rakesh,
    +1.How to test xi projects?
    2.then how to test our scenario? Is there any testing tool is available to test the scenario?+
    XI is about messaging. So the way to test an XI implementation would be to test the messaging. Two options for doing that...
    1. Test the implementation without the Application systems. The plain J2SE adapter really comes in handy here. You can use it to send an XML file to the Integration Server, check whether it is getting through the pipeline as intended (which means the routing, the mappings, etc), and let it pop out to a file somewhere. You can check all the steps the message has gone through from the XML monitor (sxmb_moni).
    2. Test the actual implementation with the application systems. For this you would use the testing tools of the application itself.
    I do not know of any automated tools for testing XI configuration, or any way of testing it without actually sending a message across.
    What is CCMS? how it is useful in XI ?</b>
    I can give you some info regarding CCMS, but the rest will try finding out and let you know soon. Mean while pls go through this info on CCMS.
    When CCMS is not configured you can only do individual monitoring.
    To configure the same you must decide which system is to be the central system for the SCR.
    To know what SCR is and to know more about it please go through this link.
    https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/1e/ec9e38f0d92936e10000009b38f8cf/content.htm
    After doing the same please follow these steps.
    Log on to the system that is to contain the central repository.
    - Choose CCMS ® Configuration ® Alert Monitor, or call transaction RZ21.
    - Choose Technical Infrastructure ® System Repository ® Set Repository Role.
    - The system displays the Set Repository Role in Central System Administration screen. Choose Central Repository.
    And also go through the following links. This I guess will help you solve your problem and I guess it answers your question.
