If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk. -
Having resent my iPad using the Settings route, the Apple logo appeared onscreen and a line below it filled from left to right. When full, the device did nothing. I was able to switch it off and back on, only to see the same Apple logo and filled line. Even pressing the ON botton for a few seconds did nothing. The device is now inert, and I cannot access it. Please help!!!
Reset iPad and continue with Restore.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Entering DFU Mode (Official Instructions)
Plug your device into your computer.
Turn off the device.
Hold the Power button for 3 seconds
Hold the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds
Release the Power Button but keep holding the Home button
Keep holding the Home button until you are alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode
Make sure the device screen is blank and no logos are present
Exiting DFU Mode
Hold Home and Power Button till the Apple Logo appears

I have got a 13 inch MacBook Pro and it got stuck in a loop so I switched it off by holding the power button down and now when I switch it on the apple logo appears then I get a blank slot at the bottom of the screen then the circle appears and rotates and then it switches off again, I have tried starting it again with the system disc that came with it when it was new but it makes no difference. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to start.

iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked. -
I have an iphone 4 . It's had a new front and back screen fitted after a bit of a bang . Now when turned on the apple logo appears on the screen and then goes off. Then appears again etc etc etc .
It won't go any further . Any ideas as to what else may be an issue or has anyone else had the same problem and what was the outcome . If I back up to iTunes will I be able to back up my information without any activity showing on the screen !! I'm lost without all my information . That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation. A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number. I suggest you turn iMessage off. In settings/phone turn on dial assist. Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage. Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

My iPad2 recently started to what appears to be a reboot - screen blanks and Apple logo appears. It has happened 3 times today with the screen just remaining 'blank' for several minutes before the logo appeared. Any ideas??? Do I have a defective iPad2? Any help appreciated.
If it were me, I would back up the ipad, restore it to the factory settings and then restore it from the backup.
That will give you back your settings and data, but will hopefully eliminate whatever is funky with the OS. -
My Ipad won't start up. The apple logo appears and just stays on the screen. after a while it starts blinking every minute
Try recovery mode as described here.
Note you may have to try to enter recovery mode more than one time to succeed.
